Any chance that the OP will ever start being updated on Sunday? I keep missing out on BRs on netflix because I don't know the release schedule til monday or tuesday. By then they say very long wait.

Yeah, I can. Never seemed like a big deal until the day they come out, but I'll note it for the future.

Not only have I never seen Event Horizon, I have no idea what it is! From IMDB, looks like a decent flick.

Don't feel bad. I've seen it and have no idea what it's about! Lol it's just a bunch of violent and weird set pieces pieced together. Not a good movie by any means, but it does have some striking visuals and a few imaginative bits.

Yeah EVENT HORIZON is kind of like an outerspace "Dead Calm" mixed with "The Shining". It has its moments and was one of the most expensive British movies ever, but frankly I found some of it unintentionally funny. It's great looking though, but incredibly stupid and derivative at the same time.

All you need to know is it's from the guy who made the RESIDENT EVIL films and the first ALIEN VS PREDATOR. Same kind of movie really, though personally I'd place it below those four also.

Japan it was announced already for blu-ray.. its region free so you can import it.

Otherwise, its a waiting game. Studios are more focused on new releases than old ones.

However, since Im fairly certain i read somewhere that they are making a sequel, expect it out around that time if its not out before hand.

Sin City is coming to Blu-ray in October...only in Canada. Much like how A Nightmare on Elm Street did last week.

Yeah, I know, WTF!

But Newline has no plans to release it this year on Blu-ray but "Alliance" does and controls Newline in Canada (or something like that).

I just imported Nightmare on Elm Street Blu-ray...can't wait to watch it.

Warner has finally OFFICIALLY announced the blockbuster of the year, “The Dark Knight” on Blu-ray Disc with a December 9th release date. The title will be released in a Standard and “Limited Edition” version. The later of the two will include a collectible “Bat Pod” and neat casing. The technical specs for both versions would indicate (from the back of the package art) to be on 2 BD-50’s and contain a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround track. The bonus materials are set to include a “Focus Points” feature similar to the studio’s original “In-Movie-Experience” found on past releases such as the first film. Two featurettes will be included in full Hi-Def on the second disc. Those two featurettes are “Batman Tech - The Incredible Gadgets and Tools” and “Batman Unmasked: The Psychology of The Dark Knight“. Also to be included are 6 episodes of “Gotham Tonight” which is supposed to be one of the city’s premier news program and tons of still image galleries will be included as well.

A lot of people on blu-ray.com and/or high-defdigest.com seemed pretty pissed it doesn't have 7.1 audio. I personally don't care as I don't even have 5.1 yet but from what I remember of the leaked info on the extras, it sounded great,

Yeah, so let's put DD5.1 on everything.

Every movie should max out it's video and audio specs, even if not everyone can take advantage of them.

It has TrueHD 5.1, shouldn't that be good enough?

It's like bitching if Fox doesn't include that stupid D-Box thing on every release.

And yes, I wouldn't mind D-Box in every title as a bonus for those who have it or would have it in the future.

I cannot wait to move in a couple weeks to my bigger place and then I'll finally be able to add two more speakers + amps to my setup.
Perhaps I'll add D-Box to it as well. ::scratches chin::

A stupid gimmick that moves/vibrates a special chair you buy from them according to what's happening on the screen.

D-Box is (at minimum) $10,000. The only reason why Fox includes that option is because D-Box pays for it. Its a reall lame chair (or couch) that shakes.

So for the past couple of days Ive been trying to influence what goes into my quick picks. Specifically Ive been trying to get the hulk, iron man, sweeney todd, and wall e blu rays. So, after days of seeing things in my quick picks like a red stapler, a clock, a book on obama, and an electric mouse trap i finally log in today to see iron man and wall e there. Yay I thought, then I scrolled down a bit more and saw they were both the DVD versions...why amazon why?

I've been trying here and there with a few random items, but no luck. Oddly enough, I happened to find Iron Man (Blu-Ray) on there the other day, so I quickly jumped on it. Also found 3:10 To Yuma on the same day and managed to get both in at the gold box price even though it says one item can only be discounted. I haven't even been trying to influence anything Blu-Ray or movie related.

The only thing that makes the Iron Man movie cool is the suit, take away the suit and it'd be a total yawn fest. Still better than The Incredible Hulk. Maybe I just don't like superhero movies where they aren't a superhero through 3/4 of the movie.

It shouldn't be hard to get at all. My store isn't even a high volume store and we got about 30 copies in, whereas we usually only get about 10 of any high profile blu ray new release. Couple of quick impressions --

INDY 4 looks as good as it can on Blu-Ray -- but I hated Janusz Kaminski's stylized cinematography, which is at odds with all the prior movies, and as much as I loved Raiders, Temple of Doom & Last Crusade, the movie is a total mess IMO. Overall though it's a solid Blu-Ray, the sound is terrific also, and the extras are OK, but are mostly promo filler about how great the movie is and such.

THE STRANGERS is a BD25 and looks and sounds terrific. I personally disliked this one also, but if you're a fan, at least it gives you both cuts of the movie. No real big extras otherwise though.

I read somewhere in another forum that if you download the firmware update and let the chest loading screen go for about 15 minutes, it will download the BD-live applet or whatever it's called and work and then the next time you view it, should be no waiting. Might be worth checking out for you guys if you are stuck with it for right now.

Unfortunately, I rented mine with my blockbuster online package and it's currently in transit so I won't be able to try (assuming I have issues) until tomorrow.

Edit: My buddy bought it today and I told him to try this and he just called me and said he was able to get it to work using the steps above, so FYI.

I checked the Hi-Def Digest forums and others have had this issue. Like some of you said just let it run and it can take up to 15-20 minutes and work fine after that. You can also unplug the ethernet cable. Hower my PS3 is wireless so if you have one that is wireless you can go to a setting and change it so that it will ask you if you want it to connect. I was trying to find where it was at however I could not. I will try this on my PS3 later tonight and try to find that setting however I think I read it in this thread here

Seems like the only issue is with BD-Live. I have yet to try to play it again on my ps3 however I just put it in my BH200(LG Super Blue Combo player) and the part that it froze on played fine after I updated my player. I've looked through some of the problems here and I honestly haven't had any with my PS3. The BD-Live worked fine (I was able to register an account and use the "quiz" thing they had.)

The first load time of the disc seemed to be the longest, but after putting it in to check out the extras on the first disc, it seemed to load like any other disc.

just popped it in and it loaded up in about 5 minutes (15 is a bit of a stretch) on the PS3. bd data took up 12mb so i'm guessing that's the cause of the slow start up. i've downloaded themes that size and it took about as much time.

Just a helpful hint.... If you do a software update to get your PS3 at the most current version, you will have no problems playing this disc.

I had the loading error myself, but then read the note in the box saying that you may need to upgrade to the latest version of the firmware, I did so, and have had no problems whatsoever... No having to disconnect the internet or anything... Just the simple software update.

Hope it helps some.

I'm going to try searching for an available PS3 update, but I think I'm at the latest or one minor version prior to the latest.

I popped in my Iron Man disc 1, and sure enough, it sat at the chest logo for a while. I let it sit for about 15-20 minutes. I flipped over to some TV and then flipped back. It then booted into the disc. I exited the disc back to my PS3 menu and started it back up to see if it had the long load again. Sure enough, it sat at the logo. This is an original release 60GB model. I have a newer 80gb model I need to try it on. That one I know has the latest and greatest firmware.

This is the latest "fixed" disc since mine had the updated UPC sticker on it.

It would be nice if they would just update it hower seeing how they are not I'm just going to plug it into the tv in the living room and plug the network cable into it and upgrade it that way. So I gave it a shot and I was able to go back to the version that was on the player when I bought it. Only I can not go back to the old drivers because I do not have that file. After doing this Iron Man and another movie that is on SD DVD played fine. So now I dont know if I even want to send it in. This is one of those cases where the PQ is exactly what was intended and what we saw in theaters. This isn't one of those movies where the colors pop off the screen -- the film wasn't shot that way, so it was never going to be one of those transfers that "wows" you, if that makes any sense. It looks gritty at times and it's just fine in HD, but it's not SPEED RACER -- nor was it ever intended to be.

Just like the HD of King Kong you can tell what is CG and what is not. On dvd or tv I usually cant tell much of a difference and it all blends well. I saw King Kong on tv one day and I knew it was CG but was blended into the actual video a little bit better. I think the CG was blended better in to the actual video in theaters. I have not seen this on a SD DVD so I dont know if it is like this on all of them or not. This is just me. I'm glad I got the BD and not the SD DVD because the picture does look great and does not take away from the movie at all. The BD is well worth it I think even with being able to tell what is CG and what is not better then I think I could on a normal DVD.

"The Iron Man Blu-ray went on sale Tuesday and due to the overwhelming popularity of the release an unprecedented demand was placed on the BD-Live connection. The disc represents a truly state-of-the art Blu-ray presentation with a first of its kind BD-Live application. As such, the heavy amount of traffic strained the servers due to so many people heading to the same destination. The bandwidth capacity was increased in preparation for the release but the demand exceeded all expectations so capacity was expanded dramatically last night and local servers were established worldwide to accommodate all the fans. The issue should be completely resolved but if anyone experiences a brief traffic jam, we have provided consumers with a menu option during disc startup that allows them to go directly to the movie main menu or continue to download the BD-Live features."

VipFREAK

Grain is one thing but "noise" like in 300 is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy another. I don't care what you say. Besides do you know how ridiculous you're sounding?

Plastic? yeah... uh huh. Sweeny todd if I remember correctly wasn't all reality based was it? (never saw it) Iron man and 300 on the other hand is reality (yeah yeah... so what there's CGI). You know... take a video camera outside and shoot?

Lice

Here is an example of the plastic look that scrubbing the grain away does...
http://horn.hdtvtotal.com/hdtvtotal/scripts/waggle/waggle.php?hd=http://chidragon.thedessie.com/bdcomp/smcomp/i19473_scary4.PNG&sd=http://chidragon.thedessie.com/bdcomp/smcomp/scary4dvd.png

It basically just applies a blur to the static to make it look more even. Most of the time gamers feel that no grain should be present because they are used to video games which are clean...

Noise is to emulate a film like look. 300 was all digital so to make it not look so pasted together and fake, they threw noise to make it look more cohesive.

Sporadic

The grain or "noise" in 300 was added in post to reach the director's desired look.

Shooting digitally is much different than shooting on actual film and actual film depends on what type of film they shoot on/how the source was preserved.

But you're right pics > words

Just look at what happened to The Thing when they tried to "clean up" the transfer.

Fan service would of been not making it...I find nothing in it that adds to the previous three.

That's why I called it fan service. Fan service doesn't add anything. It's just there. It was just an opportunity to make money, but as a big fan of Raiders and Crusade (how does anyone actually watch Tempe and stomach Short Round?), I found it entertaining in the same way I found the Star Wars prequels entertaining. They are not good films (Revenge is pretty decent, though), but they are still fun to watch. If you go into this expecting Raiders, well, you're going to be disappointed, but I don't know why anyone would actually go into it expecting anything more than what it was.

I'd also like to point out that it got pretty positive reviews, as well. Say what you want about critics (maaaaaaaaaan, I don't bow to the establishment, maaaaaaaan), but the fact that it got 61% positive reviews from the top critics on RT means it isn't this epic trainwreck everyone likes to pretend it is.

I was loaned a screener of this and I couldn't stay awake either, but who doesn't love Indy (Originals that is)

I finally got home (been out of town) and I found my Texas Chainsaw Massacre from FamilyVideo in the mailbox. The cover is really nice, it's more like a foil paper than the normal stuff. Haven't watched it yet but Dark Spy Video really went all out. 5.1, stereo and mono soundtracks, 2 commentaries, Blu-Ray Exclusive "Off The Hook" with Terri McMinn and a ton of other extras.

I almost feel bad I only paid $8 for it :D

Here's what AnyDVD tells me about the disc.

Media is a Blu-Ray disc.

Total size: 17953312 sectors (35065 MBytes)

Red Cliff while being quite excellent is still a little bit off. I did some digging and apperently it's only 1 half of the story which would explain a lot. The pq and aq are some of the best i've seen. Not the pop out and enhanced colors of Speed Racer but equally impressive in how clean and crisp the image is. Battle scenes have tons of movement and not one bit of artifacing to be found. Anyone a fan of the 80's/90's john Woo will be quite pleased with his turn back to the older style of filming. None of the high gloss and sheen of his latest works, this movie shines with intricate character interactions and almost overwhelming battle scenes. Wow! I highly recommend it to those that love period war films like Ran or the crapfest The Last Samurai. I really look forward to the finishing chapter.

These are arriving to reviewers today and it looks very, very bad.

All 4 films are presented on 4 BD50's. The case itself is a flimsy cardboard with the discs being held in by foam. Mine arrived smashed as its incredibly flimsy and cheap.

A picture I took:
http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/9663/1000607ix4.th.jpg (http://img241.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1000607ix4.jpg)http://img241.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif (http://g.imageshack.us/thpix.php)
The case is bigger then a normal BD case (I used Indiana for comparison)

Just a word of warning to those that may want to cancel and order the Individual BD release of the first film instead.

Omen II and II only have a Commentary and Trailer.

I'm with you. The crazy packaging that started to take over DVD is ridiculous. I actually prefer the simple, compact design of blu-ray cases and HD-DVD for that matter. I blame marketers for the packaging silliness. You know companies complain that there isn't enough space on the box to promote the movie.

I was kind of annoyed to find the slip cover to Iron Man. Even worse, the jacket to the inner case has none of the movie info. Just Robert Downey Jr's mug. Feels like the beginning of the end.

The problem with the OMEN set, as Gizmo mentioned, is that the whole cardboard CASE is so flimsy. There's a little tiny central point where the discs are "stuck" on each inside panel but there's no real case involved. Thankfully mine didn't arrived smashed but one of the discs was loose (luckily it was the '06 OMEN, lol).

It's actually a far WORSE design than BATTLESTAR GALACTICA's HD-DVD set.

As you may know, Blu-ray movies are more expensive than standard definition movies. As a result, we're going to start charging $1 a month (plus applicable taxes), in addition to your monthly membership charge, for unlimited access to Blu-ray movies.

The additional charge for unlimited Blu-ray access will be automatically added to your next billing statement on or after November 5th, 2008 and will be referenced in your Membership Terms and Details. If you wish to continue getting Blu-ray movies for $1 a month more, you don't need to do anything. If not, you can remove Blu-ray access anytime by visiting Your Account at the Netflix website.

I think i will be ok with this. It is only one dollar more and all, and I have a bad taste for BlockBuster.

I would assume they mean there is no limit to how many BDs you can rent with the $1 increase and, if they even give you the option, if you don't opt for that, you are limited to X amount a month. That's what it sounds like anyway.

The Matrix looks great. Even on a SDTV with component cables I can tell.

Unfortunately, they always seem to screw something up with Matrix packaging. This time, the spindles of the Matrix Experience case were made out of some form of Dixie Crystals sugar. Same thing happened to my DVD Ultimate edition.

Guess I'll be hanging on to that, since for some reason they only gave us the digital copy of the Matrix (none of the other movies) and either iPod or WMV. Not the choice for both, as usual.

I have no idea if it was this thread or another, but a whlile ago someone somewhere posted a really good site that had a complete list of all blu rays that have bd live content. I searched and searched and could not find it. Little help? Thanks.
