I really want a ps3 and am deciding between the 60gb and the 80gb. The 60gb I can buy used from online but only the 80gb can I get new. My question is; which is the better system? I have heard a lot going both ways and I want to know which one I should spend my money on.

I have a very large ps2 collection and do not want to lose playing those games. So the other question is: should I go for the 60gb or should I get the 80gb and keep the old ps2 and replace if need be.

I was going to go for the 60gb until I heard that playing some ps2 games on there make it run slower, takes more energy and is simply not good.

Any information would be appreciated because I would like to get one as soon as possible.

Thanks so much.

Get the 80GB. The 60GB will probably be out of warranty, and if anything happens to it (definitely more likely that you will because it is the SKU with the highest failure percentage, although still lower than another console), you gotta pay. Also, a firmware update CAN screw with compatibility (sometimes for the good, sometimes for the bad). if you have games that support accessories, unless they are USB, it's really not worth trying to get them to work on PS3 (some work near flawless, some can't work like Guitar Hero 2, and 80's). IMO, it's best just to hook a PS2 up to an SDTV for the best results, and play PS3 on an HDTV.

I'll admit I did use my PS2 BC early on in my 20GB (since I got it around the time it came out), but since mid 2007, I pretty much stopped using my PS2 BC (there's plenty of good PS3 games out there now).

The 80GB also uses less power (due to smaller cell and maybe smaller RSX), you'll get a full year warranty, larger HDD (which is a HUGE plus on PS3), and so on.

Agreed. Get the 80. Like it was said, you won't use you bc very long, once ya start getting some ps3 games. Used mine for about 2 games and i've had it since jan.

80gb all the way, and especially if you game on an HDTV. PS2 games just look awful on it. If you feel nostalgic, just use your old PS2 system.

I bought a 60gb new in january. I'm very happy with it. I play a good amount of ps2 games despite all the ps3 games out. The hardware emulation for non accessoried games work pretty much flawlessly I noticed.

As others have already said, BC isn't guaranteed to be 100%, plus you're getting a system that's very likely to be WAY out of warranty with the used 60gb, so just get the 80 gb and keep your PS2 if you want to play PS2 games.

However, I believe that ALL models of the PS3 have the built in software BC for PS1 games, so if you have some old PS1 games you've been itching to play again, you don't have to use the PS2 for that. That is, unless they even took out PS1 BC from the newest PS3 SKU's?

you wont "lose playing those games" unless you get rid of your PS2.

I recently bought a 60 GB off ebay. It came with a 120 day warranty but to make that a year it will cost $56. Is it worth it to pick up the warranty even though its only for another 8 months or should I just stick with the 120 day one it came with?

Depends on how you treat your techs, If your surrounding is peaceful and your house doesn't have any pet or any annoying little kids running around then stick to the 120 days.. If it's all the opposite then.. you do the obvious.
