I gave more than Biden did last year and only made about 15% of what he did.

Not everyone gives to charity for tax purposes.

McCain and Palin need to release more info... a combined 17 years for the dems including their wives, and from the GOP only 2 years and of only McCain not his loaded wife...

If I made $320k it's hard for me to say how much, if any, I'd donate to charity... but I'm kind of a dick. If I made $4m like Obama I'd probably donate a ton though, that's way too much money for me.

That makes no sense to me

I think for me to donate any significant amount I'd have to make more than I could reasonably spend and I'm pretty sure I could reasonably spend $320k/yr. I don't think there's any way in hell I could justify keeping $1m+/yr.

So what? It's his money, he can do whatever he wants with it.

Most Democrats think it is the government's job to help out the less fortunate. Most Republicans think is it the job of private charities. The giving patterns of these two groups are according to these beliefs (there have been studies done on this). Biden and Obama's relatively low levels of charitable contributions only reflect this belief. Of course, it's easier to give someone else's money away, isn't it?

The fact of the matter is that most charitable contributions are tax deductible, so even with an income tax system people can still choose to make contributions of their choice in lieu of at least part of their tax burden.

So it's not an either or thing where it's totally "giving away peoples money" versus not taxing and leaving it up to the kindness of people's hearts to donate. I'm as self serving as the next guy and wouldn't donate nearly what I pay in taxes if there was no income tax or a much smaller income tax. I think that's straight human nature, so I support the progressive income tax as I think it's crucial to providing needed services in society.

Well, there's the proof that it's much easier to give away OTHER PEOPLE'S money.

So?

Cindy McCain has 100-150 million easily and I doubt she gives any to anyone, she seems like a stuck up cunt to me.

That's nothing but uninformed speculation (not to mention a classless description) plus she's not asking to be elected.

Actually, the cunt part comes straight from Mr. McCain himself.

I really don't see how a politician should be held to higher standards when it comes to charity. This portion of their persona is not relevant to me, considering that it does not affect their job performance at all.
And no, I don't think it's an indicator of nobility or honesty either, when it comes to the job.

Yeah that stupid stingy bitch. How dare she horde all that cash, we should make her give up more. I bet Uncle Sam knows how to put it to better use.

Twenty years ago, she started a non-profit organization (American Voluntary Medical Team) that provides free health care to third world countries hit by disasters in Southeast Asia and Central America. I'm not a fan of Cindy McCain (all that Botox just makes her look freaky) but have to give credit where credit is due.

^This charity isn't the charity she stole painkillers from, right?

Fuck Africa, how about we get health care to the 50-60 million Americans that don't have it?

Africa: The Money Pit Continent.

It has always amazed me how AIDS in Africa is handled.

Women are secondhand citizens most places.

A man can fuck whatever they want and can spread HIV to whoever happens to be on the end of his dick.

If a wife becomes infected with HIV, the husband can beat her to death for being dirty.

Here's the beautiful part ...

Rather than let AIDS destroy populations, we give away medicine so the population are strong to continue their backwards treatment of women and have a few ethnic cleansing wars.

If somebody wants to play Russian Roulette, why are we buying them Kevlar helmets?

Don't forget the Bush admin's abstinence-only stipulation for financial aid to Africa. Led by the Bush appointed "family man" who was bonking high-class strippers, courtesy of the (now mysteriously deceased) DC madam.

And that Catholic church is doing wonders down there too, what with their prohibition on prophylactics.

Some people write a check, keep their receipts, make certain that all charitable giving is deducted from their taxes and tell everyone how great they are. Some people give anonymously and don't like to discuss it. Some people just put cash in a bucket.

I'm not going to look at his tax records and make the assumption that he's a tightwad because he didn't claim many donations. And I'm not going to assume that a millionaire is generous because they claimed more.

The Bidens combined made ~300k, he ain't rich and his wife isn't loaded either. His net worth is only around 100k-150k, he was by far the brokest candidate in either primary this year.

What should be being discussed--

Dems: Released a total of 17 tax returns, all of which were filed jointly (ie includes wife info)

Republicans: Released a total of 2 tax returns, neither of which were filed jointly (ie no wife info)

McCain doesn't want to give us more info because it'd reveal how "elite" he really is, hurting his barrage of attacks on Obama...
