Other than Soul Calibur, what are people playing with it?

I was just about to buy the game, how good is the game with this arcade stick? How is it with the controller?

I really didn't like the stick(mine is the VF5 EX-2 model) as much as the Nubytech Street Fighter Anniversary stick for the PS2/Xbox. I thought the control stick was too loud when it clicks and the buttons are way too mushy for me. The click of the stick is a lot more distracting on the EX-2 than the SFA stick and I didn't like being able to press a button without knowing it. I also didn't like the Japanese style button layout. Those were my impressions of it.

Anybody tried this with puzzle games like Lumines or Super Puzzle Fighter?

Nah... Xbox 360 controller is THE BEST!

This package doesn't come with anything else like DVD or anything, so I don't need it. Maybe for $10 not $40

They should design more LE Xbox 360 controllers like Halo 3, etc though

It's the best stick in its price range and then some. I use it for all my Xbox/Xbox 360 fighting games (including Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, SF2 Tubo (XBLA), King of Fighters Neowave, etc.). The EX2 is also PC-compatible, so it's quite usable with emulators and such. It's worth noting that this is a Japanese-style stick (which is prefered by most serious players, but may not match what you're used to from US arcades) and is fairly small.

The EX2 definitely isn't as good as a custom stick made with arcade parts ($150+), the forthcoming high-end Street Fighter IV stick ($140?) or the classic Hori Real Arcade Pro ($100+), but those sticks are substantially more expensive (and not available at retail, not yet available or import-only, respectively). If you play fighting games on the 360 and don't already have a quality stick, I'd recommend picking this up. If nothing else, it's a great stepping stone to a better, pricier stick.

I have the EX-2 VF5 model and see nothing related to VF5 about it. When I bought it Amazon and GS both had it listed as the VF5 model. I know the one in japan was done up nice with the graphics on it like the DOA and SCIV ones were. However the one in the US came with I think 2 VF5 stickers to put on it at the top. I also have the DOA version. I don't really like them due to the same things that BlueSwim said other then the Japanese style layout. I don't mind that. I also think that it is slow to respond and not accurate. Some combos in SCIV it would take me 5+ tries to do with the stick however with the normal controller 2 at the most. However others were just a pain in the ass and almost could not do with with the controller however the stick I had no issue with.

After seeing the SF stick for the 360 I know I will be getting it day one. Might even try to preorder it if places take one on it.

I'm selling my copy of SCIV for 360 (mint and complete, of course) for $38 shipped. It would go nicely with the stick......... ;) (PM me!)

It won't hurt to contact them. I got the price difference credited back after emailing them just this morning. The rep did make it absolutely clear that there was no post-order price guarantee, that he was going against standard policy and making a one-time exception due to the circumstances (significant price difference and order placed only a few days ago). Nice to see competent service like this.

It's a decent stick, I do agree with the noise complaints as it is a little loud. Personally I've been playing more arcade games with it, mostly 1942: Joint Strike.

As for Soul Calibur itself, I haven't played much as of yet but after a few hours of trying out each I personally liked the analog stick better on the controller, but the feel of the buttons are a lot better vs. a controller.

They're differant though. Checkout GAF and one of the SFIV threads..MadCatz hired a top custom joystick manufacturer as a consultant to improve there products. The guy posted on GAF and gave his blessing that the stick is worth it and not a shoddy typical MadCAtz product. It remains to be seen, but I've seen the guys' quality work, so I'll go by his word that it's a good product.

How hard would it be to swap out new sticks/buttons on the 360 model...any more difficult than on the PS2/Xbox sticks?

Cause I mean, if it's easy, you could always upgrade it and just get it for the design, which I'd be inclined to do.

Markman, a forum member here, neogaf, and several fighiting stick forums, is actually a designer working MadCatz on the SF IV sticks. He knows quality and he has assured us they will be good. You can read about it in our CAG arcade stick thread here

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=192322

If you can wait, do it. If you need/want a stick now, then by all means the stick is a good option.

What other games, "regular" 360 or XBLA games would go well with this stick? Fighting games, I get it. But there are a lot of XBLA games which require dual analog sticks now right? We're not all playing 1942 right?

I'm tempted but it might only be for Soul Calibur 4 and possibly Virtua Fighter...

Aww fuck it, I just ordered it with standard shipping, FREE shipping is estimated to arrive somewhere between Sep 25 - Oct 1, where 5 bucks shipping is estimated to be delivered Sep 18th...oh well, this stick better be good.

For anyone that has purchased this before Sept. 1st, but not more than 30 days ago...try for a refund of the price difference ASAP.

I purchased the stick for 53.99, I will soon have purchased it for 39.98. Thanks for the heads up, OP!

I actually had a friend who preferred keyboard for fighting games due the the number of buttons available for short cut. He also chose ps pad over stick for the extra short buttons. He is also the best at fighting games among my group of friends.

Thanks OP! I was waiting for a price drop, just bought one, I plan to use it on Battle Fantasia, which should be out next week. It should work pretty well on all fighters on Xbox 360... was thinking about getting Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix and SF4 for next year. I'm not elite enough to buy a $100+ stick... yet.

It should work fine, these are the same sticks (Hori EX 2) that shipped around DOA4's release.

Here is a direct link for the SC IV PS3 Arcade Stick for $43.99 (this might also be a DotD)

Hey, no prob! I was hoping I wasn't the only one getting BF this week. Speaking of which, my local Gamestop isn't accepting preorders for it. I wonder if it's really coming out. I ended up getting it on Amazon, in fear that it will never reach stores.

Deal is dead now, price is now up to $48.99, which is still cheaper than its retail ($60) and the $51.99 ($8 off) price a week ago. Glad I didn't pass on this.
