Basically I need to connect my Ps3 to my surround sound system with digital audio cable. I did it with my 360 system, but I am unable to do it with my PS3 system. Is there any adapter I need to buy or something....
Thanks

The PS3 optical out is on the back left of the system when horizontal. Set the output to dolby digital 5.1. Does your digital receiver have multiple optical inputs?
That is what I do. Make sure to go into your PS3 audio settings and choose optical connection.

You need to go into the audio settings and make sure you select Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS, PCM, etc. Your receiver will light up with 5.1 if its hooked up right. I'm assuming you're using toslink and not HDMI to carry the audio signal.

Don't mean to thread jack but I asked this in the PS3 FAQ thread and in the PS Forums but haven't received an answer yet... maybe you guys can't help.
I have my 80GB PS3 (MGS4 bundle) hooked up via HDMI (720p) and I have the audio hooked up via optical. For some reason, the video is really messed up whenever I try and use either 5.1 Dolby Digital or DTS. If I try to play any PS3 game or PS3 demo (or Pain or PixelJunk Eden) the video keeps flickering between a blank screen or noise or split seconds of the actual game... the audio works perfecty fine- my receiver even shows that it's picking up a DD 5.1 or DTS 5.1 signal depending on what I set in the PS3's audio settings.
This is the only time it happens. When I'm in the menu, no problems. When I play a PS2 game, no problems. If I just use the HDMI for audio (from my TV), I have no problems other than crappy audio. It seems like the issue is linked directly to the 5.1 audio which results in video issues.
Can anyone please provide any help with this?

Weird, might be your receiver. I have mine hooked up the same way you do and have no problems.

Vinny, try using the composite stock cables to hook your PS3 up to the TV then switch to HDMI once you change the settings. It worked on my Bravia.

What gives better sound quality - HDMI out to receiver, or Optical Cable to Receiver?

HDMI to receiver... that's how I have mine set up...
the only way you can have HD-MA on blu-rays come through your stereo set-up.
