'Nother trophy question.

For the "played in every venue" trophy, what defines a venue? Is a venue each major city or is it each place within the city (meaning each city has 3 venues)? I ask because I think I've played in every city (although I might not have them all unlocked), but I definitely haven't played in every place for each city and still no trophy.

It's each place within a city.

I'm thinking about playing Rock Band 2 on Thursday night, either around 9pm EST or 10pm EST. If anyone is interested in playing, let me know, because I'd like to have a little mini-CAG night. Based on how that goes, I will look into expanding CAG RB2 night.

Guitar 1: ManaKnight (although I MIGHT be willing to do vocals, but I prefer guitar for this)

I'd be up for playing (PSN: ChizelMonkee). All I have right now is the guitar but will likely get drums for Xmas so I could do either. I have a mic too.

One thing that has thrown me about multiplayer online is ability levels. It seems I was thrown in with some real shredders. How does one make sur e they can hang with the other players in their band? Is it simply choosing the right difficulty level for your instrument? Is that all you can do or is there some sort of level matchmaking system built in?

ohvermie
12-16-2008, 11:16 PM
You can choose individual difficulty levels. Unless we're all in the business of gold starring the shaq-fu out of songs and rolling 1 million + point runs, it's no big deal to have a couple members rolling on medium/easy/hard. I usually judge what difficulty I choose based on song since I can do expert guitar or hard drums on the lower tier songs. You know whatever makes the game still challenging and keeps me from falling asleep.

I am down for playing some games. I have drums, but since I live in an apartment I try not to do drums after 9PM out of courtesy to my neighbors. :P I am willing to do guit/bass.

Does voice chat actually work, or is it just the vocalist that gets to say stuff during games?

Those who are already on my buddy list will be on my team (my list is near full anyway, but I'll eventually clear place). I will start watching and group people together sometime tomorrow. Just mention in this thread from what time would you like to play on Thursday, and what instrument do you prefer to play as (if you are willing to play as many, tell me that). I will try to get something together. It may not work right away, but I do plan to eventually make RB2 an official night.

Voice chat works in between songs so band members can communicate. The vocalist singing does not come through to other members of the band, they get to hear the master track.

Interesting, how does this play as an online game? Its super special awesome in a local multiplayer setting, but i guess i never tried to play it online.. strange, but I guess it could be fun. I will have to try it someday, but not this week, as I will be out of town.

That definitely worked out pretty well. We should take our show on the road! :)

Like to find out how to make the chat louder so that you can hear it reliably over the song previews and sound effects. It would suck if the only way around that was to crank the microphone input sensitivity on the user end.

Got this for Xmas and have been enjoying the single-player career mode a lot now that I can play through the Band World Tour mode without needing another player/instrument to do that. Downloaded my free 20 songs, though I haven't played around with them much yet.

I tried syncing my PSN account with my Rock Band account on their site and it's giving me errors, so does it just take time before I'm able to sync it and I should just try again tomorrow?

Indeed I do. Cheapest I can think of would be a used set of SingStar mics at GameStop for $9.99, I'm not sure how much they charge for a used Logitech mic but I'm sure some stores might have them because so many games out there use the exact same type as RB.

The blue Singstar mic will work for any USB microphone application. I have been using it for Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band recently. It seems to work fine with Guitar Hero, however, it does not seem to work well for Rock Band. It seems to have lots of difficulty picking up the "tambourine" hits and activating overdrive. I just saw one of the used Rock Band mics at Gamestop, I may have to pick one up.

Also, I just bought a drum set, so I can join in on a CAG game for drums if wanted. I can usually play around hard, except for harder songs. On easier songs, I can play expert. To recap, I can play guitar/bass on expert, PSN username DeskLaser.

Overall, I've had a lot of problems with getting vocals to work properly. I reported earlier that using the SingStar mic did not work for me. Well, today I got it to work somehow. When I was having particular success with the RB branded mic, I decided to try the SingStar mic again. Low and behold it worked.

Then, I lost functionality with both types of mics.

I suspect that I need to do something not so obvious to get these to work. I'm in the habit of booting up the game before plugging in the mics. One time when I tried to plug them in before booting, it worked more reliably.

One way for me to tell if they are working correctly is in the vocals options menu item in the pause menu. If you can hear yourself strongly that is a good sign.

I'm surprised it has taken so much fiddling to get it to work especially compared to the guitars.

Anyone else have any best practices for getting the mics to work reliably?

Well, you will have access to all of your rock band one songs, so, if you mean using the rock band 1 game engine, then, no.

I believe there are rock band one themed challenges you can complete, but don't quote me on that.

You also lose 3 (2?) rock band one songs, Paranoid (cover of Sabbath), and Enter Sandman (Metallica), and a third, which i can never remember (run to the hills?).

So you can safely get rid of your rock band one disk once you do that, provided you dont long for sandman.

Was there ever a reason given for such a heavy edit on Lacuna Coil's Our Truth? The wailing at the beginning and end is cut to have long gaps in it, and the chorus is muffled and played at about 1/2 volume.

Also on the DLC of the song Closer there's a random loud squeak near the end of the song before the vocals come back in.

Tour Challenges or Battle of the Band challenges? I've seen a few of the BotB challenges mention songs from RB1, but those will include almost any DLC you could have. I haven't gotten far enough in Tour Challenges to see what all of those are.

Run to the Hills is the third song that didn't make the cut.

I can play a lot better now on the ps3 that I found a new guitar since the wireless on the PS3 Les Paul is god awful. Just takes a while to get used to the buttons and it has a weird d-pad.

Probably tilt sensor issues. But I think that plagues all the guitars regardless of make. GH:WT's guit has it right by having a huge bar you can slam to activate star power/overdrive. :P

Anyone up for some games tonight? I will probably be on at around 8PM EST, and can manage lower tier hard drums and might still be able to play guitar on hard (it's been awhile since I've played guitar). I have the RB1 songs, and some random DLC (most notably the No Doubt set, everything else is just singles).

So maybe that's why I've been doing so bad on the PS3 version. All this time I thought I either couldn't calibrate my system right or I was just sucking from not playing in a while. I seemed to do better with it than the World Tour guitar though. Maybe it's just me, but it seems as if the fret keys on it are too "mushy" to play fast sections with. How does the feel of the Frontman compare to the Xplorer on the 360 (the main guitar I'm used to)? I'll have to look into getting one of those.

FriskyTanuki

That See You Never challenge in the Battle of the Bands is pretty cool. You just try to get the longest streak you can in either Go Your Own Way or Where'd You Go?, which are both on-disc songs. Forgrim's already put it almost out of reach for me, so I'm going to try to see if I can beat 452 notes in a row. There's also another one ending tonight that has on-disc songs, too, which is called In The Battle and seems to be a normal high score challenge.

It would be nice if these had an icon on the main BotB menu to let you know which ones feature songs you can play. They should also pair you up with a band with the average score in the leaderboards instead of the guy in last place with 200 points.

Maybe I'll make posts here when new ones go up so you guys can know to hop on and play ones you can enter.

How does the feel of the Frontman compare to the Xplorer on the 360 (the main guitar I'm used to)? I'll have to look into getting one of those.

Oh the Xplorer is still my favorite of the guitars. I honestly wish they'd make wired an option with the newer guitars. The Frontman has a port in the bottom of it and it comes with a fairly long usb wire, you can plug it into one of the usb ports on the ps3 but it's only for power if you don't want to use batteries, you can't actually play the guitar through that, which I find an odd design choice but whatever.

As for the feel of the frontman, it's shaped almost exactly like an xplorer. The fret buttons feel weird and take time to get used to but it's nothing all that bad (they had a used one at gamestop I tried out before I bought it to make sure it didn't suck) and they don't make noise.

The plus-pad for some reason they replaced with this weird joystick like thing that doesn't work that well honestly but I can make due without a plus-pad.

Strumbar is clicky, makes some noise.

The whammy bar is really stiff and it doesn't move on it's own which I like.

The one thing about the frontman that didn't work was the "rock band" setting. It has one of those things on the guitar like the official rock band guitar where you can change the type of noise it makes for the whammy bar or whatever. If I changed the guitar into rock band mode the guitar was un-usable. Buttons would activate without being pushed and stuff, it was very weird. Works fine in "guitar hero" mode though and I couldn't care less about the whammy bar setting thingie.

Does the World Tour guitar lag also? I've been trying to use that now, now that I am aware that the Les Paul DOES lag, but I'm still having lots of trouble. For example, I've gone to being able to pass Visions guitar expert on the 360 Xplorer just fine but now on the PS3 I can barely get into it before I fail. Same being for any fast solo, I don't hit any notes at all. It makes it really frustrating when I can't pass all the songs I could pass just fine on the 360. What's even worse is because of this, I'm sure I will not be able to pass endless setlist on expert, since I can't even pass Visions on bass now.

I tried taking my whole stereo system out of the picture, and that is helping out a lot. Now my sound is just running through my TV's stock speakers through HDMI, audio latency set at -18 MS. I'm using a Vizio VX32L through HDMI and have video lag set at 32 MS. I was able to play fine with that stereo on the 360, the PS3 just seems to really give me a hassle. I was able to get through Visions on bass, and can do well on guitar when I don't mess my rhythm up. I either hit all of the hammer ons or near none. Best shot on guitar expert so far was getting to the outro, but I think I can attribute that to still getting used to the bigger buttons on the world tour guitar than the xplorer. I was also able to pass Painkiller expert, but it wasn't pretty. I also got to solo d on a sightread of Damnation Game, so it's definitely getting better. I think Caprici di Diablo is pretty much out of my skill range though

Now to see if I can still pass all the Megadeth songs, as they are my favorite content, and will be quite annoyed if I can't.

How do you hook 4 instruments up to the new PS3 that only has 2 USB ports? USB hub, or do the instruments use bluetooth?

DeskLaser
01-06-2009, 05:27 PM
You'll have to use a USB hub. However, if one of your guitars is the World Tour guitar, the dongle comes with 2 USB ports on it, meaning you will be able to connect 4 devices in total. The WT guitar, 2 devices to the USB ports on the WT dongle, and then the 4th in the 2nd PS3 USB port. The other nice thing about this is you won't have to use a powered USB hub this way. However, since the PS3 seems to have a trouble with introduced latency using USB dongles, this may further that problem more, but I haven't tested it out to know for sure.

Anyone else using the GHWT controller find that it sucks ass? The first one I got didn't even sync, so I exchanged it and this new one will periodically drop its signal. Sometimes for a fraction of a second, sometimes a few seconds. Am I having bad luck or is this a wide spread problem? I'm going to see about returning but it was bought with GCs so I'll probably get some credit at Best Buy. Their selection sucks though. Probably. I don't see any other reason for not going bluetooth. It's actually because the PS3 bluetooth that's sectioned off for controllers, only some people within SCEI have access to it. I remember reading an article one that one reasons games use a dongle isn't just because of price, but because the bluetooth interfacing (with controllers 1-4) is not available for publishers/developers. Sony is considering doing it one day, but they may have to do some re-configurations.

Okay, I found the article:

PS3 guitar peripherals for Rock Band and Guitar Hero 3 will not use Bluetooth technology at launch.

The news was unearthed by 1UP, who noticed a large and unwieldy wireless dongle drooping around a foot in length from the bottom of the Guitar Hero 3 axe.

When contacted about it, RedOctane spokesperson Bryan Lam said it had developed its own wireless solution so it could launch in time, because currently Bluetooth tools only cater for the Sixaxis controllers.

This was later confirmed by Rock Band developer Harmonix, which stated its first-generation of guitars would not feature Bluetooth. Let's hope a USB wireless dongle-hub is provided so all instruments can be played at the same time, then.

Some observers feel the hold-up is due to Sony not issuing adequate tools to allow third-parties to make use of the Bluetooth connectivity. Others suggest RedOctane and Harmonix looked to develop their own technology because of Sixaxis connection problems in the past.

Nintendo, however, doesn't have the same problems, as its peripherals will tap into the existing Bluetooth signals from the controllers. Microsoft will also not have to fart around with dongles, as it has a receiver built in to the Xbox 360.

Guitar Hero 3 is due out on PS3, PC, 360, Wii and PS2 on 23rd November. You can see how it is shaping up over in our Guitar Hero 3 gamepage, where you will also find the most up to date track list and our hands-on impressions.

Rock Band will be released in the first quarter of 2008. PS3 bundle packs will have wireless guitars while 360 boxes will feature wired peripherals and a USB hub to connect them all - wireless axes can be bought separately. Pop over to our Rock Band gamepage for more.

I haven't played too many of them, but I do enjoy the song by X Japan (I think that's their name) every once in a while. I also like "Prequel Before the Sequel" that comes in the free 20 songs.

Anyways, I finally went and bought a Frontman at GS for $20, with my GHWT guitar's strum bar being out, and I can already see a VAST improvement. In the first two songs trying out the new guitar (and with the volume being set low, with people being asleep), I go from struggling to 4 star the Children of Bodom song to getting 5 stars (expert), and passing Visions on expert on PS3, finally. The sections with the back and forth between the middle 3 keys were sort of hairy though, with still getting used to the keys, but as I play with it more I imagine it will work very well for me. Very highly recommended.

I'll definitely be getting the Godsmack and Rob Zombie tracks this week. Hopefully, Dethklok will one day see some DLC, as Harmonix did put them in Guitar Hero 2, but I can only wait and wish :)

If you can keep streaks going, you'll get more points on harder difficulties because there are more notes. Having a big multiplier is what gets you the serious points though, so it's not worth it if you can't keep a streak.

Streaks on drums are pretty much nonexistant for me at any level, so sometimes I'll bump up the difficulty and put it on no fail mode and just freak out. :)

On a side note, using the Frontman on Rock Revolution (I'm an old school Bemani fan, and it's cheap now, so sue me), on SIGHTREADS of 2 of the songs in the Pantera DLC pack (Mouth for War and Cemetery Gates), I got the #1 score on the PSN leaderboards, lmao. On Cemetery Gates I even beat it by 300,000 or so. On sightreads on Walk and Holy Wars using the Frontman I'm #2 on Walk and in the top 5 for Holy Wars, leaderboard hasn't refreshed yet. Point being, the Frontman is definitely a great option for expert level guitar play, even proven with Rock Revolution's more Bemani like stricter timing windows.

But anyways, why can't Rock Band have Pantera also :-(

To Dr. Strangepork: Technically speaking, getting more stars will progress you through tour mode quicker (as far as opening up venues, etc), but harder difficulties will get you more fans. But, I would stay at what you are comfortable at for now, and gradually work your way up through harder difficulties.

Good times. I don't think I've played with a full band before (on my PS3 anyway) so now there are a bunch of scores in my list that are like twice as high as anything else. :)

Did everyone get to see me hit all the bass drum notes on Drain You's bridge except for the one that gave star power?? #-o:lol:

Sorry about not knowing to switch before, I really wish they would make the voice chat a lot more audible. I actually went into the options and tried to turn down all the menu music and stuff beforehand, it helped a little, but not too much.

Also, you guys might want to track down Rock Band 1 just to have more songs. :)

Yeah, the voice chat was kind of sketchy. I can understand why they have it come through the speakers but I wish you could change it so it was actually audible. Also could people hear me hitting the drums during the first song after the switch? I started turning my mic off during the songs because I thought I could hear myself playing.

I've got the RB1 songs imported, plus The Who and Doolittle packs, and some random singles if you guys have any of those. Someday I'll play through all of Doolittle. :)

Hahaha that's the crap thing about RB on the PS3, you can't just tell certain songs to fuck off.

How is DooLittle? I hear that the guitar parts are kinda shit for it. I think a part of me is hesitant to buy it because I want to hold out for Surfer Rosa.

I should probably get the Who pack though and pick up some of the songs off Colour and the Shape.

I'd say Doolittle is for fans only. Some songs are fun on guitar (Mr. Grieves, Dead, Hey), although most of the songs are short. Nothing too difficult either if you prefer harder songs. I wouldn't get the whole album though considering a lot of the songs are short and I think its $20.

Yeah, Doolittle as a pack is probably more for fans. There are some songs that are pretty fun anyway, though -- the opening sections of Here Comes Your Man has awesome hammer-ons/pull-offs.

The Who pack is great, especially if you want to wreck your drumset. :) Maybe some day they'll release more stuff from Quadrophenia.

Aww, too bad I missed the game night, I have been busy the past few days. I'm usually open for playing either guitar/bass (expert) or drums (usually hard, but expert on some easier songs), but vocals typically aren't for me. Especially now, since I'm getting a cold that is leaving my throat quite sore and scratchy. I usually don't play vocals unless the house is empty anyways. For my DLC and music preferences, I go very heavily towards metal and also towards classic rock. Chances are if there is metal on the RB store (except for newer or "nu-metal" I will have it, with the exception of Screaming for Vengeance, waiting for a spare $15 for that).

I probably will be playing more of the copy of Burnout Paradise I recently got now that the restart update is out lol. But anyways, if I'm playing something, still message me about Rock Band 2, I'll probably come play still.

Also from last night, my ringing endorsement of the Nyko Frontman continues, as I did the best I have ever done on Green Grass and High Tides with it. I didn't miss one note of the red, yellow, and blue back and forth solo trill about 2/3 of the way through solo 2 :-D

Hi guys. Just wondering: Does anyone here use silencers/pads on either their drum kit or sticks? I've been sort of thinking about getting some for a while but I'm getting more into the drumming now and want to know if it's a good idea to have a set.

Further questions if you use some: What kind do you have and how do you like them? Do they do a good job of cutting down on the sound, and does it hurt your accuracy? Anything you wish you knew before you got them?

Feel free to add in any other thoughts you have on them. :)

bornrunnin31
02-08-2009, 03:55 AM
I've thought about getting some sort of silencer before, but don't want to spend more than $10. There's a ton of info on different kinds of materials and how they work with the different versions of the RB1 drums. I'm pretty sure there's a few threads over at the RB forums with detailed info.

I've been using the RB2 drumset and it does seem to be slightly quieter than the RB1 set, but I don't think by that much. I've read that the typical store bought silencers will reduce your accuracy and lower your scores on drums, so if you get any, I would look into custom made ones or drum pad mods first.

Dr. Strangepork
02-08-2009, 04:25 PM
The red pad on my drums has developed a little "bubble" where the top layer of vinyl (or whatever it is) has separated from the rest of the pad. So that very middle part of the pad is popped up. I don't think it affects gameplay that much but I guess I don't liuke it.

Has anyone else had this problem?
Anyone found a solution?
Would Harmonix fix this for me or replace it?

Thanks

Dr. SP

Since I work at Best Buy I did buy the silencers since it was cheap with the discount. While it made them quieter it would miss a couple notes here and there so it reduced how well it picked up my hits. (Note: I have RB1 drums, not GHWT or RB2)

I took them off but kept them for now (they are still sticky and would work on it again) but honestly I'd probably just buy the RB2 or GHWT drumset if I HAD to have it quieter. It was pretty nice being quieter.

02-08-2009, 06:45 PM
I made the poor choice of paying 20 dollars at an EB for the official Rock Band drum silencers a while ago to use with my RB1 drums.

They do help in silencing your hits but at the cost of your ability to actually hit notes. I only play drums on hard but after sticking the silencers on I was only able to hit about half of the notes I'd normally hit.

It's probably better to just avoid the silencers, plus they leave residue on the drum pads if you ever decide to take them off.

I want my 20 dollars back...

ohvermie
02-09-2009, 10:55 AM
I actually do something really ghetto to silence the drums. I take some foam weatherstripping and roll it around the tips of my sticks and then wrap it all up in duct tape so it looks like a marshmallow is on top of your sticks. Reduces the sound fairly well although it does make your sticks a bit top heavy, but I've gotten used to it.

I think the issue is that all of the track packs (AC/DC included) run off of a "shell" Rock Band 1 engine, which is not updated to support other game instruments. If you want or need to use a non Rock Band guitar, you will have to download the tracks to the hard drive and play them on Rock Band 2 (or 1, if it is also updated). Or, if you have a Frontman guitar, you could set it to Rock Band mode and that should work.

Because of this, I was able to find the one PS3 Track Pack Volume 2 that was left, cost $15 after 50% off. The only thing that worries me is it has a "display box" sticker on it, hopefully nobody wrote down the code and ran off. Hopefully, if they did, I can call up EA and bitch about a code in a sealed copy not working and hopefully they will give me a new one. I'm about to try it out in a few minutes after I get settled in.

Hey guys,

For some reason, I can't seem to get the one trophy for getting a 100% on a guitar solo on expert while using only the solo keys. I have done this multiple times on Social Distortion - I Was Wrong (imho the easiest solo in the game), full comboed the solo w/100%, and still no trophy. I use only the solo keys and don't strum at all with the strum bar (obviously), and still no go. Any ideas as to why this may be happening? I've been playing the song in world tour mode.

Also, how does one go about getting the along for the ride trophy? I can't seem to fully figure out what it wants. Am I just supposed to get a second person to play along while I play an instrument specific challenge?

Thanks for the help, guys.

The Flawless Solo trophy is pretty tricky. You can't use the solo buttons ANYWHERE except for the solo you 100%. For example, you 100% one solo, but use the buttons and mess up another, it will cancel out. Also, using the solo buttons along with the strum bar outside of a solo will cancel it out. I also think you have to make sure you completely hold out any note holds during the solo or else it won't count either.

For the Along for the Ride trophy, the method you mentioned will work on the PS3, since all players still count as your username. But generally, your username/account would have to play a different instrument on a specific instrument challenge (for example, play drums on the Impossible Guitar challenge).

Thanks! I was using the solo buttons for the whole song and not just the solo section. That explains that.

I'm still a little confused about the along for the ride trophy. I understand the concept, but how do I get to play another instrument during an instrument specific challenge. Doesn't it only let me choose the specific instrument the challenge pertains to :-s?

Thanks again for pointing out the flawless solo to me. I'd never be able to get it without your explanation.

You can't pick a different instrument for a specific instrument challenge if you are the only one playing. There has to be another player involved. Let me know when you will be online and I can do a challenge with you. For example, I'll play drums, you play guitar, so pick a drum challenge.

When I quit RB2 from the XMB there is a pause and them the whole PS3 reboots. It hasn't always done this and it only seems to happen with RB2.

Anyone else experience this and have an idea what might be going on?

Weird shit like this always make me worry about consumer electronics.

A couple of questions about the Track Pack 2.

I have RB2. I also had no problem importing the RB1 songs onto my console for use in RB2. But when I go into the Track Pack 2 disc, I see no option to export the songs. Am I missing something?

Also, when I try to go into Tour or Quickplay in the TrackPack2, it tells me I don't have a microphone connected and I can't go any further. I'm using the guitar to navigate thru the menus. Has anyone run into this?

Thanks!

If it's like the AC/DC track pack, it's a code on the manual to download the tracks, not the option to rip them from the disc.

To download the tracks, put in the code in the PSN store where you have the option to redeem codes. Then it will download all 20 tracks in one download to your hard drive. As to your guitar issue, ONLY Rock Band instruments will work when running the track pack off the disc. The game engine it runs has not been updated to be compatible with any other instruments.

On a side note, hooray for All I Want for next week's DLC. May happy memories of Crazy Taxi flood you all :D

Thanks guys. That explains both issues.

On a side note (I know its old news by now). Just downloaded Texas Flood and Mary Had a Little Lamb from SRV. What fun songs to play.

This is somewhat off topic, but is anyone planning on getting Guitar Hero Metallica when it comes out? We should get a CAG band together to work on the trophies and do online band vs band.

I was in the area of my local CC last night and decided to try to stop by and see if they still had the Track Pack Volume 2 for PS3 (I had seen it there shortly ago), but now all of their games are thrown into bins instead of on the shelf. I saw numerous 360 and PS2 copies, but I couldn't find a PS3 copy. Granted when I got there they were closing in 10 minutes, but I'm not sure if it's worth a trip back there to try to look again. I figure if I can get a track pack there, 30% off of the $30 is approximately $20.xx, and secondspin.com shows that they pay $11 for it, meaning if FYE would give cash at that value, I could download the Track Pack Volume 2 for approximately $10. Just an idea for those who have Circuit Cities and FYEs closeby.Or you could just grab a gutted copy off the shelf at GameStop and write down the code on the back of the manual

I was gonna post that months ago, black Friday, when I noticed GS had the Trak Packs opened with the Manual, but I figured CAG would get pissed off for such naughty ideas.

I can't wait for future track packs.

Someone I know pointed this out, which is interesting:

Warner's Latest Digital Music Stalemate: Track Prices In MTV's 'Rock Band'

Yet another example of how music labels just can't get along with digital content companies ... *Warner Music Group* (WMG) and MTV Games are in a standoff over pricing for Warner artists' tracks in the Rock Band franchise, an impasse that could ultimately mean no new WMG tracks in the game's weekly updates this summer. According to Billboard, MTV has stopped requesting licenses for new tracks, since the two parties can't agree on pricing terms.

It's familiar territory for WMG: there's the nasty standoff it has going with YouTube over fees for the rights to its music videos; it kept tracks from artists like Estelle and Kid Rock off iTunes last year over pricing disagreements; and declined to renew its contract with Last.fm over track pricing as well. But while Warner has chosen to stick to its guns about the money, analysts like Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter have argued that the label will do more damage to its own artists (and sales), than to the game publishers with this particular fight.

—It's true that gaming companies need a constant influx of new music for their franchises to thrive beyond the initial purchase: MTV has increasingly released Rock Band add-on packs with tracks from WMG artists like the Grateful Dead and the Pretenders; losing access to popular songs could hurt future downloadable content sales. Meanwhile, if rival Activision (NasdaqGS: ATVI - News) hadn't worked out a favorable deal with *Sony* BMG, it wouldn't have been able to release Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, which cleared $25 million in its first week of sales (per Rolling Stone).

—But gaming companies aren't beholden to any one label to get it: Gamers have gobbled up more than 6 million DLC levels and song tracks; the best-selling tracks have come from a plethora of bands and labels like Metallica, the Police, Foreigner and Weezer. Publishers like MTV and Activision also don't have to go directly to the labels to get tracks; Billboard notes that one of the top 10 best-selling Rock Band tracks is a cover of Black Sabbath's Paranoid that MTV didn't have to get the master recording rights for.

Given the exposure to vintage classics that some DLC packs provide (thanks to Guitar Hero, my 12-year-old sister bought Aerosmith's 1993 hit Livin' on the Edge on iTunes), you'd think that WMG might be willing to make concessions to get its artists' tracks into music games. But last summer, WMG CEO Edgar Bronfman told Reuters why the label would demand more from game publishers that wanted to use its artists' tracks going forward: "The amount being paid to the music industry, even though their games are entirely dependent on the content we own and control, is far too small ...".

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Warners-Latest-Digital-Music-paidcontent-14583710.html

This isn't just for Rock Band, but for YouTube, last.fm, SingStar DLC (it seems), and others. This kind of reminds me of the issue SCEE London has with licensing UMG stuff.

Anyone else felt the need to tape their stock RB2 drum sticks? I find them awfully hard to keep hold on to at times and thought tape might help. If you did, what kind did you use? Make much of a difference?

I am having an issue with my rock band 2 drumset. It keeps disconnecting and reconnecting during songs. I googled the hell out of it and all fixes have had zero help.

I put tissue behind the battery cover to stop the battery jittering thing. I even tried it on another tv way away from my router, nothing. I cant think of anything. help please.

my friend has the exact same problem and hasn't been able to come up with a fix yet. i think it has more to do with the controller losing connection with the dongle and less to do with the battery. either way, i'm not sure of the fix.

gah more bad news, I called EA and they said that other wireless devices are the problem. And that its not faulty, its my fault because it does connect most of the time.

I think it has to do with the doggle not getting enough power, because if I only play drums with no guitar doggle or mic plugged in I dont get a problem. Maybe I'll try a usb hub.

Sorry for the bump but I didn't want to create another thread.

I'm planning to get Beatles RB bundle. However, I can't decide whether to go with the Wii or the PS3 version. They're the same price for the bundle.

I have GH (guitars only) for the Wii. So I already have presidence to go with the Wii version.

I'm expecting that the PS3 version will look better but if the graphics are cartoon based like in the trailers, I'm not sure if there's going to be a big difference there. Will there be an audio difference?

Also, my Wii is not connected to my network but my PS3 is. I think that downloading DLC will be easier on the PS3.

So it comes down to this for me: keep it in the same console so I can use the instruments for both GH and RB but no DLC or go with PS3 for potential DLC.

Is there anything else I should consider in my decision? TIA.
