Announced Album DLC Planned for Around and After Rock Band 2's Release (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/28/rock-band-2-getting-full-albums-from-foo-fighters-chili-peppers/)

Rather than parsing the info out in tantalizing nuggets, Harmonix/MTV has just given us an expansive look at the future of Rock Band, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. The magazine revealed six of the full albums headed to Rock Band 2 (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Rock-Band-2/), which we'll now happily pass along to you:

Foo Fighters -- "The Colour and the Shape"
Red Hot Chili Peppers -- "Blood Sugar Sex Magik"
Jane's Addiction -- "Nothing's Shocking"
Megadeth -- "Peace Sells... But Who's Buying"
Stevie Ray Vaughn -- "Texas Flood"

The last album is a best-of No Doubt compilation made specifically for the game. Rather than try to impose our own musical tastes on you, we'll just pass the mic your way and ask which of those records has your head banging in anticipation.Concerning the Free 20 Bonus DLC Songs (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/14/rock-band-2-manual-details-bonus-dlc-rock-band-song-transfer-wo/)

When the official (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/10/rock-band-2-standalone-instruments-coming-next-week/) announcement finally came last week that Rock Band 2 (http://joystiq.com/tag/rock-band-2) would release today on Xbox 360, one little bullet point on the press release about an additional 20 free DLC songs nagged us. Looking at the back of the Rock Band 2 manual now, we still have no idea what the DLC is, but we do know how we're going to get it. Going to the site listed in the image above currently gives this message: "Please check back in a few days for the opportunity to enter your Registration Code and sign up to receive the Bonus Downloadable Tracks." We've been told by Harmonix the tracks will release later this year.Info on the Exporting Feature to Make Rock Band Disc Songs Playable in Rock Band 2 (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/04/rock-band-disc-export-goes-live-costs-5-for-55-tracks/)

Harmonix just officially announced that the update allowing Rock Band (http://joystiq.com/tag/rock-band) songs to be transferred to Rock Band 2 has gone live. Once Rock Band 2 (http://joystiq.com/tag/rock-band-2) is released (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/13/rumorang-oh-where-oh-where-is-the-rock-band-2-release-date/), drummers, vocalists, and plastic guitar players will be able to transfer 55 songs from the original game to the sequel for $5 (400 MS points).

55 songs? That sounds like it's missing a few tracks. The press release details -- in tiny print at the bottom -- that the missing songs are: "Enter Sandman" by Metallica, "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath (cover), "Run to the Hills" by Iron Maiden (cover) and "Monsoon" by Tokio Hotel (a DLC song from the European disc, so this is only for Europe).

Yeah, I was close to making this thread myself, but I never got around to it. :-P

I'm excited for the game myself and will definitely get it. I might even have a CAG RB2 game night thread eventually (I'm working on a plan for good match making, such as what instrument people play, what difficulty, and so on).

I LOVE Rockband! My old drums broke so I can't really play RB right now....:( I like how you can integrate RB 1 songs to RB 2!I also could play with the CAG thing but right now,I have dial up :( Also, RB 2 will have Trophies?

Sucks to hear about being on dial-up right now. :-( Hope it doesn't last for long.

Here's a probably dumb question, but...

On PSN the export key says something like, "rock band disk" will be required to play exported songs. It seems as though a lot of people are trading in their RB1 disk after exporting. I read that statement as meaning you will still need that disk. Anyone know - or have experience w/the 360 version?

From what I have read the RB1 disc is not required after the transfer. But you must have the RB2 disc in to play them. Also on the 360 thread people have gotten rid of there Discs and been fine.

http://kotaku.com/5056832/rock-bands-acdc-live-track-pack-+-the-details

Looks like the AC/DC rumors were true, though the price is not quite so nice for the $40 price tag. You get 18 songs, which would be $36 at the standard DLC price, if not lower because this would be an album/bundle that would get even more of a discount. You are able to export the songs to your hard drive to play with either RB or RB2 with a special authorization code. Here's the track list for the track pack:

"Thunderstruck"
"Shoot to Thrill"
"Back in Black"
"Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be"
"Heatseeker"
"Fire Your Guns"
"Jailbreak"
"The Jack"
"Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap"
"Moneytalks"
"Hells Bells"
"High Voltage"
"Whole Lotta Rosie"
"You Shook Me All Night Long"
"T.N.T."
"Let There Be Rock”
"Highway To Hell”
"For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)”

I'd definitely get it if there's a deal or I can make some nice trade-ins at GS to pay for most of it.

Edit: Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/30/nyt-rock-band-getting-wal-mart-exclusive-ac-dc-expansion/)is saying that the track pack is exclusive to Walmart and Sam's Club, which is absolute bullshit to me if it's true.

http://www.giantbomb.com/news/the-411-on-acdcs-rock-band-debut/373/

Why isn't this a download? In the words of Harmonix community dude John Drake (http://www.giantbomb.com/john-drake/72-4884/), AC/DC "likes things to be packaged in a very specific way." Since they also don't sell their music on iTunes, I took that to mean "they hate the Internet."
What's the on-disc gameplay like? There's a very basic ladder where you play through all 18 tracks of Live at Donnington. No world tour mode, character creation, or anything like that.
Is the band in the game? Nope, just the songs. This ain't Guitar Hero: Aerosmith (http://www.giantbomb.com/guitar-hero-aerosmith/61-20684/).
What's up with importing the tracks? Every copy ships with a single-use code that will let you pull all the songs into your Rock Band 2, at which point they'll function just like any other DLC. So they'll show up in world tour, you can play them online, all that jazz.
Achievements? Yep, 12 of them on the 360, amounting to what looks like 200 points. No trophies in the PS3 version, sadly, because AC/DC Live is based on the first Rock Band (http://www.giantbomb.com/rock-band/61-9860/), not the sequel.
Great, but how are the songs, man? You could look up the Donnington album online and listen to some samples if you want to hear for yourself, but the recording was apparently very good at that show, because they practically sounded like studio tracks to me. I played "Back in Black" and the riff sounded 100 percent spot-on. If you've been waiting for AC/DC in your music game, I think you'll be happy.

Giant Bomb has some more info on the AC/DC expansion disc.

Well, the LBP delay means I won't have to divide my time between that and RB2 next week, so I went ahead and ordered the bundle for delivery Tuesday. Wooo! I'll probably rent RB1 sometime this weekend so I can get the songs transferred over and ready to go. And maybe I'll get that Pixies DLC and just stare at it for a few days.

the drums are a bit disappointing. I wish they were more like the guitar hero world tour pads... sigh =(

however buying the game and 1 more guitar is already frickin $130...........
and I got the full set at DDD for $167 or something....... kind of hard to justify just not getting the new drums for $30+ more

I'm thinking about it. I just need to know which has the best instruments, this or guitar hero.

Got to play with the new instruments for a short time at walmart, and they are 10000x improved. I mainly play Guitar, and I'll say that I think I like the RB2 Guitar better than the GH3 Les Paul, and that's saying something. The drums seemed to have better rebound, were quieter, and the kick pedal seemed better.

DarthPuma: The GHWT has better drums for sure, but the guitar boils down to personal preference. I prefer the rockband guitars because the buttons are better and they fixed the strum bar a bit.

The new sensor things on the guitars for ghwt don't do much for me and I still don't like the buttons

anyone know if there is a BB coupon laying around for games ;)? that would make it worth picking up at bb

Has there been any hands on that says the gh drums are better? RB has those cymbal add ons and you wouldn't have to get used to a new layout.

Yeah, the strum bar is a zillion times better. It's like the les paul but silent. The buttons don't suck either. I had no problems with h/o's and p/o's in the Panic At the Disco song I got stuck playing at walmart.

yeah, I had a chance to try out the GHWT drums. They're much better. The top of the drumheads are padded w/ thick silicone making them very bouncy and silent. HOWEVER, the cymbals are still sort of hard so they will make similar sounds to the rock band kit.

The layout seemed fine and I had no problem w/ it.
cost wise it just doesn't seem effective for me to get the GHWT drums considering I only need 1 more guitar and I really don't care much for GHWT the game.

Well I put in a pre-order at best buy yesterday as I had about $14 in gift cards and I think they were they only people giving away something with the pre-order (hooray another XL shirt that won't fit me ). Gotta get through as many songs as I can before football starts up tommorow...

On a side note BB had a GH:Aerosmith setup and I played it for a bit. I honestly hate the Les Paul controller. It's smaller and maybe this was just at this BB but the buttons required some finger strength to press down. I play real guitar and feel I have ample finger strength but this thing was on the verge of obnoxious.

I have a weird question when someone has it. Guitar Hero 3 on ps3 wouldn't run in anything besides 720p. I'm sure this actually runs or can run in 1080p right? I thought about getting rock band 2, and getting rock band later on.

Man. My biggest reservation about ordering this was that there might be some insane hardware flaw. But I figured it was probably safe since after all the broken strum bars/bass pedals last year, they must have put this new round of instruments through extra extensive testing, right? RIGHT?!?!??

ditto on that one. I'm majorly disappointing, but there's no reason to sink your money into this defective hardware at the moment.

I mean I never had that much issue with my RB 1 set, besides the mushy strum bar. My drum pedal never broke and my drums never had much issue w/ cross-talking. Plus RB1 was unique for this market, and provided a semi-similar experience to what I used to play w/ guitarfreaks/drummania systemlink all at home.

Somehow I'm not sure it's always purely a design issue since sometimes during mfr process things get wonky. Now i'm not saying all the sets out there have my issue, but from the harmonix forums there are quite a few people experiencing the same/similar issues. At the price of this set, it's really not worth the headache, I'm perfectly fine skipping out on this $200 plunker.

the packaging on the RB2 is impressive. They fit quite a bit in a much much smaller box.

Justin42
10-20-2008, 12:59 PM
I was pretty surprised how much smaller the box seemed when I saw it at Best Buy yesterday...

I just picked up the game only version, I figured I'll wait until all the various music games for the year are out and wait for deals on whatever set is considered "The best".. like the Guitar Center deals we saw a couple months ago... I figure my RB1 set will hopefully last me.

But playing RB2 I am having a LOT of trouble on guitar-- my guitar seemed fine the last time I played RB1 a week or so ago, but I'm missing a lot of notes, etc. I changed the batteries which seemed to maybe help a little but it still seems much harder to get the timing down than RB1 was.... I'm not sure if I was just too tired to play last night, or if my launch-RB1 guitar is finally biting the dust, or they maybe REALLY tightened the timing? Has anyone else noticed it's a lot harder to hit the notes?

bigl523
10-20-2008, 01:13 PM
Did you do a calibration for the lag and what not? I followed the prompts and it said I had a 58ms video lag and when I played I was missing notes all over the place. Went in and modified it to 30ms (about the value I had for RB1 and the default for lcd) and I was back to hitting all the notes.

Yeah the same is happening to me also. there is no way I shouldn't be able to Gold Star So Whatcha' Want the first time I played it. I didn't have to set the calibration on my game for the first rock band..looks like I have to do it this time. oh well those new guitars do look good though. :)

Glad I'm not the only one. I was debating trying calibration, but I've never had to on any past GH/RB game so I was a bit concerned I'd mess things up worse trying to calibrate. But I will go ahead and try it tonight (and try RB1 to make sure I still know how to play the game!)

Yep, calibration fixed the problem.. songs I was struggling to get 3 stars on I am now getting 5 no problem... (And RB1 played fine when I checked it). I have a much better impression of Rock Band 2 now. ;) (Well, except for the fact when I try to redeem the code on the back of the manual I am being told it's already been redeemed.. .:P I've opened a support ticket with EA over that already)

Too bizarre, since I have never had to calibrate anything before. Thanks for suggesting it!

10-21-2008, 04:25 AM
I spent about 15 minutes failing songs and messing with the calibration until I got it to where I like it. Even though it could still use some tweaking, I'm too fed up with it right now to keep messing with it. Almost makes me want to bust out the CRT.

Also, does anyone's RB2 guitar have some incredibly loud fret buttons? I've got the weird hybrid guitar from the special edition bundle, PS3 version. Orange and blue sound about how I remember, but green, red and yellow are LOUD! In addition to the normal, hollow sound, there's a loud click that's almost as loud as the original GH Gibson's strum bar. It's incredibly obnoxious and I hope it goes away. Otherwise, I'm looking forwad to my strum bar breaking and trying my luck with a replacement.

But enough complaining. The game itself is as great as I expected, and I'm having a blast getting caught up with the DLC. I just need my RB1 disc to get here from Gamefly so I can rip Wave of Mutilation and do a complete playthrough of Doolittle. :D

bigl523
10-21-2008, 07:46 AM
I remember when I got RB1 and the strum bar and frets were silent. Then my strum bar only worked about 80% of the time so it went back and what returned was a fixed strum bar and loud clickly fret buttons. When I bought a second guitar it was the same. I'm assuming that they are continuing down the path with loud clicky fret buttons which is rather unfortunate.

PROTIP: Buy a GH3 Les Paul instead of using the Strat. ;p

The local Best Buy has a GH:WT demo station set up and the new guitars have a strum bar similar to the RB Strat, but not mushy. Overall it was pretty decent, I wish the asshats at Best Buy calibrated the damn set up proper so that it was actually playable. But on medium, it was alright.

I picked up the game yesterday, but unfortunately no store in town seemed to have the new guitars as a stand alone.

I played for a little last night, but out of curiousity is there a fast way to unlock songs for quickplay which doesn't involve replaying the same songs 15 billion times or using the cheat code and disabling saves? I'm mostly a solo player so the old "play through a list of songs unlocking more difficult ones as you go along" style of play was much prefered for song unlocking.

I'm cool with playing "tour mode" to unlock costumes/venues, but there are some songs I was really looking forward to playing and am not sure what is the best/quickest way to unlock them.

Plus did the charts seem a little vertically compressed for anyone else? I think I got used to it eventually, but when I first started playing, the layout for guitar notes felt different.

So at the moment I'll just summarize my feelings after about 2-3 hours of play as such:

Like:
The improved song selection options for quickplay (although still far from perfect especially if you have a lot of DLC and the imported RB1 songs)

Being able to use the same character for different instruments.

Having stand in characters (although it is a shame you cannot have the same character stand in for more than one spot. I want an entire clone band dammit!!!!)

Some of the new venues. I got the "trippy music video" type one on a quickplay and thought it was awesome.

The continued support of RB1 songs and DLC. Now you don't have to worry about having access to song great song at a party without switching discs (provided you have the harddrive space anyway.)

Dislike:
The mess that is Tour mode for unlocking stuff. I could really see how this works for a band, but not for the individual player (yeah yeah I know it is a social game, but I don't care).

I'm still annoyed by the pricing of stuff in the "Rock Shop." How many expert 5-star performances does it take to buy some of that crap? (this in general falls under my "I hate having customization options limited by how many billion hours I've played the game." I really hope that you can transfer stuff unlocked in RB2 to RB3, because I will not be buying the same pieces of clothing a 3rd time in a new game.)

I feel like I'm nitpicking, but this is stuff I feel detracts from the overall experience which in general is pretty awesome.

I think that one of the problems is that we're in the early venues. The cash goes up the further in to the game that you get (or at least it did in the solo mode in RB1). I spent a few hours 5-staring songs at medium difficulty (where I'm comfortable...I just want to unlock things quickly), and received a fraction of what I would have earned in RB1.

On the other hand, I think that the note recognition (guitar) is generally better than it was in the first game. If I miss one note in a long streak, it's more likely that I was off-beat than it was a non-registered note (Play 'Seven' in both games and see how you do).

RE: the vertically compressed guitar track....I think what you may be seeing is that the game doesn't shift from single-player to multi-player display like the first game did. That space at the top goes to the vocalist. (Haven't actually multi-played yet, but that's my guess).

MY Dislikes:
- Having to start a second band just to make money, since I'm saving my old band for multiplayer with my HS / College friends (re-created from RB1). I used to use the solo tour mode for cash. Maybe I missed something, but it didn't look like you get cash for solo quickplay.
- There's no obvious way to unlock every song in the game, or even an 'easiest path' to unlock the songs you want to start playing (e.g. 'Everlong').

...and that's about it.

I love the 'Battle of the Bands' feature; it's finally a reason to start adding PSN friends (who will decimate my scores). I hope that the matchmaking improves, though....I was randomly paired with another band, despite having spent significant time having 5-starred a number of songs, and it just feels wrong to average ~ 50,000 / song, when your opponent is hovering around 9k.

Smart move allowing you to save & quit during challenges; I haven't done it yet, but I'm sure I will at some point (did the 9-song import challenge last night before bed, and got notably worse as the challenge went on.)

My RB1 strat is working fine with the replacement rubber band (until that breaks).

I've been reading that going through challenges up to the point where you can unlock the endless set list is the best way to get all the songs unlocked. I guess once endless set list is unlocked, all the songs are opened up for play?

Hopefully, not playing the actual endless set list, because that'll take like 6 hours. But then again I plopped down 4 hours on the game easy just last night. D:

josh_animebum
10-21-2008, 10:13 PM
Yeah, I read that too. The challenges will have some repetition, but it probably beats going through the Tour as far as quick unlocks.

Also you can stop challenges in the middle and it will save your progress, which makes completing that challenge a little bit more likely.

Well I can't say that I know who many (or almost any) of these bands are, but I genuinely enjoyed about half of the bonus tracks in Rock Band 1 so I'm willing to give these a shot. My only real complaint is that (for reasons of which I have yet to see an explanation) we are unable to delete individual DLC tracks like they can on the 360.

A couple of major bands on the list would have been nice, but as the saying goes "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth."

RE: unlocking songs.

You don't have to play every challenge to unlock the songs; I noticed after playing last night that I had unlocked a handfull of songs I hadn't played yet. From the looks of it, once you unlock a challenge, you unlock all the songs in the challenge. (You don't need to beat the particular challenge to unlock those songs, but beating the challenge will unlock a new challenge, and the songs in that new challenge.)

Expanding my love for 'battle of the bands' -- I like seeing the different scoring systems in the challenges. Last night, for instance, most of the battles involved the number of stars, and not simply the score (putting medium - difficulty scorers in parity with Experts)....but the most enjoyable challenge was based on your longest note streak in "Carry On Wayward Son." (I finished around 330, after missing a note ~ 80 in.) Having these challenges last for a limited time gives me a reason to try playing that mode instead of the regular tour events....which changes things up.

Oh, and hooray for trophies! (First game I've purchased that supports them.)

Apparently there is something fucked up with the way the batteries are held in the drum.

I'm honestly really glad I broke my RB1 kick pedal the other day. I was on my way to go buy the new set, as soon as I finished the song. Since it's the family set, I just hid the evidence in my room and ordered the hit kit from best buy.

Had it not broke I would have ended up with the RB2 set, and probably would have been very unhappy, since I didn't know about all the problems.

My pedal broke from RB1 just last night, when I purchased RB2. Just my f'ing luck. I've taken really good care of my things too. Snapped in half. My friend is giving me his pedal though, so all is good.

The RB2 drums require batteries?? I wasn't aware of that. Now I need to find out the same for the GH drums.

I think it's impossible not to break the kick/bass pedal on the RB1 drum kit. I broke mine earlier this summer and my replacement is starting to feel a little flimsy.

The RB2 drum kit is wireless, so it needs batteries. I'm not sure if the GH:WT kit is wireless.

awesome quality control harmonix :) 2 diff sets from 2 diff vendors.

oh well at least the drums seem better this time around, no more phantom hits. Guess the glue was done better on this one.

BTW it was strange, the guy I bought it off ebay simply bought it off amazon and shipped it to me as a gift. He had like 25 for buy it now at $195........ I don't see how he can make a profit off these considering ebay/paypal fees. unless he has a crapload of giftcards for amazon...........

I'm probably gonna have to pick up the PS3 version of Rock Band 2 also.

Hopefully the World Tour drums are sold as a standalone since I want to play RB2 with those drums but not if it means that I have to dish out close to $200 for the band kit.

Anyways, the beat trainer in Rock Band 2 is basically impossible for me to complete, been trying for a while now..

I like that the drum trainer is there, but yeah, it wasn't long before I was getting killed. I'm looking forward to practicing, though.

I wish the fill trainer had a few "famous solos" or something just for fun. I know I wouldn't be able to do any of them but it would be cool to see how they translate into Rock Band format. I was so disappointed when a bunch of the Who songs just have fills where it's normally Keith Moon going nuts.

GodlyOne

Speaking of drum solos, I play the drums on hard and the solos I've encountered in songs are really boring. I'd figure the solos would have you flipping out on the drum pads but maybe it's better on the expert difficulty.

Is it me or is the guitar timing window way tighter than for GH games? I tried the guitar last night and was missing a lot of notes. They had to be almost perfectly on the line. But overall, the charting seems to be much easier than GH. Maybe I'll finally 5 star a song!

Harmonix already stated that the bundles will not come with the sunburst guitars. The ones in the bundle are RB2 guitars (quieter buttons, auto calibration) but no sunburst shell.

Yes, it's pretty crappy because they are advertising these are in the box (I haven't looked at the box myself, but I'm sure it's pictured there outside of the people on the cover) and of course the TV ads have em too. But I guess if you base the product off the TV ads, you'd have cymbals and the MadCatz bass as well.

I was going to buy a bundle, but when I heard there was no sunburst guitar included, I decided to just buy the game and wait to buy a new guitar and drum kit separately. Sure, it's going to cost more this way, but I used RewardZone points to buy the game and with the new Gamer's program, I'll be getting atleast an extra $10 back, so I might be spending $10 more, if not the same to buy it piece by piece.

I started the RMA 2 weeks ago for my guitar and they still haven't gotten it to me. meanwhile 1/4 of the warranty period is over haha.

At least the drums in my 2ND set are ok for now despite the design crosstalk everyone experiences. OK... i just read thru 4 pages of this thread and im slightly more confused now than I was before.... im leaning towards RB2.... is the equipment good? ive never had any music games before but i heard horror stories about RB1's instruments.

The equipment is good, and if it's not, Harmonix will replace it for you.

ANd yes, the guitars from GH:WT will work with Rock Band 2. I'm not sure about the RB2 instruments in GH:WT though, I heard the PS3 version didn't support some of them or something. I'm sure someone will know the exact answer

Awesome discovery I just made today: You can use 2 Singstar mics from the same USB port for Tug of War and Score Duel. This makes this game practically SingStar now, minus the video. \\:D/

The cymbals are pretty cool, but don't add too much to the game. I do enjoy hitting the "green" cymbal to activate overdrive, it definitely feels more "awesome" instead of the green pad. My yellow "high hat" doesn't seem to get much love though...

MasterSun1
11-10-2008, 06:56 PM
And it comes with the wingnuts for all 3 colors besides red (yellow, blue, green) and you have a choice of which to use. And remember, the wingnut doesn't dictate which color the cymbal functions as (it's just an indicator). You have plug in the cymbal in the right expansion jack. Could be a good way to fuck with someone though, lol.

MasterSun1

Looks cool. Once I can play again, I'll probably go with the same set up (two cymbals, yellow and green). I don't really see the point of three, that's too much and you could get away with one, but you might as well go for two when it's just $10 more.

I agree. A third in the middle just seems excessive.

So here's a dilemna.

I currently play RB2 using a GH3 Les Paul (because I think the strat is junk). Now with the PS2 RB bundles going down to $99, is it worth it to pick that up for the drums and a second guitar? Or should I just suck it up and spend $90 on the RB2 drums? Not particularly interested in things like the cymbals, but are the RB2 drums that much better than the RB1 drums? I don't necessarily need the second guitar either, but it might be nice if company is ever over.

I was planning on getting GHWT the complete set, but who knows when HMX will patch the game to accept their drums. Hasn't the 360 had their RB2 patch since the PS3 launch?

Man...I finally opened up my Guitar Hero: World Tour - Guitar Bundle (with an extra Les Paul, $99.99 from RedOctane) and I can't believe how much better the guitar is over the new Fender. I've always preferred the GH controllers, but this just confirms it. It's got some weight to it, but the most important aspects are the clicky strum bar (which I totally prefer) as well as the fret buttons. I have trouble sliding on the Fender and dislike the fact that the fret buttons "click". I much prefer the GH fret buttons where it's more of a "press" down on the buttons. Plus, the design just looks better overall.

Now I'm just happy that I have a complete band set for multiplayer (RB2 Fender, RB2 Drums, GH:WT Guitar, RB2 Mic). Now I just need to get Rock Band 1 (coming in from Goozex) and somehow snag the AC/DC Live Track Pack for cheaper than $40 freaking bucks.

snag the AC/DC Live Track Pack for cheaper than $40 freaking bucks.

This was a tough swallow for me as well. What I ended up doing was buying it with my Sony Card and then sending in the purchase credit form for extra reward points and to use my accumulated points as cash to have the cost rebated to my CC. I then put it up on goozex only to reject the first trade for 800 points because I had second thoughts about sending it out without the d/l code, but then I changed my mind and decided that it was in fact a fully functional disc, manual, case and found a bite for it again for 750 points.

So, one way to look at it is that I used 4000 of my SonyCard Reward points to buy the tracks for this game and 750 goozex points. Not too bad in the end and good use of cheapassonomics.

(Oh, and by the way, I'm barely a casual AC/DC fan but I *had* to have this for RB and I can vouch and say that it was worth a pick up)

No complaints from the user receiving that game?

I'll let you know. I have mixed feelings because I initially requested it not knowing the one time download code information and then took it off my list once I looked it up because I only wanted it to export. In the end, I saw that games like COD4:GOTY edition were being traded and it's ultimately up to the user to know what they're requesting and that goozex is for trading used games. Not to be cold, but it IS a standalone game and it was sent complete with never even being played.

I had received a CoD4:GOTY edition through Goozex and of course the multiplayer map codes were used. I didn't think much of it. Beat the game a couple days later and played multi for a bit, then put it back up on Goozex. New user received it, left feedback about the code being used, but it was still positive. I think in this case, it's still kosher, not like having the code redeemed makes the game unusable. And in the case of CoD4, it's not like the GOTY edition is worth more or less points, so you're technically getting the same value.

So are the Les Paul fret buttons pretty quiet compared to the Stratocaster? I haven't used a GH controller since the original but I don't remember the fret buttons on it (or even the RB1 Strat) making much noise at all. The RB2 fret buttons are distractingly noisy.

When you purchase a pack of Energizer® Advanced Lithium Batteries with a Rock Band Label on it, you get a code for a free track download. Can't say its a deal because I haven't priced the batteries, but additional freebies are always worth mentioning. this works for PS3 and Xbox 360.

It's definitely way less noisy. The "clicking" of the RB guitars pissed me off. I play MUCH BETTER with GH guitars than the RB ones. The only thing that sucks about using the new GH guitar is that on tough solos (think AC/DC Live - Thunderstruck on Expert, although most of you probably don't have it), you don't have those 5 additional solo frets buttons (the touch-pad buttons on the GH controller don't work).

I'm just happy now that I have Rock Band 2: Special Edition, Rock Band, AC/DC Live Track Pack, GH: World Tour, and GH: Aerosmith, as well as GH1 and GH2 for PS2. I'm only missing GH3 for PS3.

The Rock Band Export Key is solely for the purpose of exporting 55 out of the 58 original Rock Band songs for use in Rock Band 2. It DOES NOT work for the AC/DC Live Track Pack. The only way to export the 18 AC/DC Live tracks is to buy the game from Wal-Mart (and only Wal-Mart) and use the code to download the songs (700+ MBs) for use in Rock Band 2. You're only other option without having to pay the Wal-Mart price of $39.88 is to somehow find an unused code, although I highly doubt any used copy of GameStop would contain an unused code, but you never know.

Like most DLC, the tracks are Game Shareable.

And the reason that the track pack is only available at Wal-Mart is because of some exclusive agreement that AC/DC has with Wal-Mart in terms of distribution. So you will NEVER see the tracks as DLC unless AC/DC, Wal-Mart, and Harmonix come to some sort of mutual agreement.

Kinda sucks I spent $39.88 just to play Thunderstruck, Highway to Hell, and TNT (plus a couple more). But they are sweet.

Owners of the PlayStation 3 version of Rock Band 2 will be asked to upgrade their copies to version 1.01 today. That hundredth increase in version numbering brings with it a bunch of new bug fixes, the most noteworthy being a corrected "interoperability issue" with Guitar Hero World Tour drum and guitar peripherals. Happy, happy clutter-free days! Even better, if you found yourself somehow on the receiving end of a copy of Konami's Rock Revolution, that game's drum kit will work too. For the full list of changes, read on.Release Notes:
Hardware
· Provided support for third party drum and guitar controllers including GHWT & RR.
· Adjusted crosstalk values for drum hardware.
· Bug fix for remote drum fills being silent – users will now hear the drum track when drum fills.

Gameplay
· Fixed overlapping drum fill bug on drum track.
· Fixed rare network crash involving client signing out during setlist creation.
· Fixed rare crash on calibration screen when users mash guitar controller buttons.
· Fixed bug where Leaderboard scores in BWT were not uploading after users played the first song.
· Fixed bug where Leaderboard career scores were posted including DLC songs and not just disc songs as originally intended.

Just wondering if my RB2 is messed up, or if the game is buggy for others too. Anybody had trouble downloading the patch and just in general really crappy in-game music store performance?

It took me half a dozen tries before the damn thing actually downloaded the patch as it would reboot the ps3, kick out to the xmb, or freeze on a blank screen.

I've had problems the whole time with the in-game music store kicking me out to the main screen with ambiguous message about music store connection problems. I put in RB1 just to get some preview tracks and had no problems at all.

I just got it today for $.99 with the purchase of RB2 for $59.99. What sucks about the track pack is that I already had 7 songs, but $1 for 13 songs isn't that bad. One more thing that sucks is that since it's my bros he can't see it until x-mas.

Got the GHWT guitar today thanks to that Amazon deal and it absolutely blows the Stratocaster away. I'm not 100% used to the fret buttons so I was missing some weird notes, but that strum bar is solid. It's noisier than the Strat of course, but it's a nice microswitch click that is nowhere near as annoying as the Strat's CLACK CLACK fret buttons. The star power button is great, too. I miss being able to do the big rock ending on the solo buttons, but that's my only complaint.

I also got the Flawless Fretwork trophy using this thing. That's probably all I really needed to say. :)

Just for the record, I tried my SingStar mics. As a few noted, they work but seem to lack the "hit the mic for tambourine/clapping" effect. Also, to get them to work, I had to sing very, very close to the mic.

I just picked up a used, RB-branded mic for $10 from GameStop using a gift card.

Now I just need a guitar controller.

For the cowbell/tambourine sections, try hitting the SingStar mic (near the mic and not the handle) on the side of your hand as if you're clapping. That works very well for me and I rarely make any mistakes using this technique.

Also, you can use BOTH SingStar mics in RB. Go ahead and do duets or sing-offs!

True. Let's just say that CAG's onsite search telling me that the terms "SingStar" and "mic" were somewhere in this thread didn't lead me to the answer fast enough. And given the experience of some of the CAGers, how compatible they really are seems up for debate or at least needs more testing.

But, there's also the "Search this thread" or "Search this forum" button depending on what you're currently looking at on the right hand side just below the thread title.

So obviously if you pause at any point you've wasted your time. However, when you fail a song, it usually takes you to a menu asking if you want to retry, quit, etc. Is it possible to purposely faila song so that the menu comes up and then just leave it at that until you're ready to play again? I would imagine the answer is no, but if it is, then does that mean you can't fail any songs at all?

Anyone play Rock Band 2 with the World Tour drums? Better? Worse? I wanted to get myself a set but they go for like $120.00+ on eBay (used too :bomb:).

Worse. Anything with a lot of tom work is a real PiTa on the GHWT drums (in RB2).

Much better to use the RB2 kit with addon cymbals IMO, especially since RB2 is 20x more
fun than GHWT, so much better to play the better game with the correct equipment.

I have both setups right now and will probably get rid of the GHWT kit soon.

I dunno. I've been using the GHWT drums and I like them on RB2 a lot. I'll hand it to you that playing the yellow pad/cymbal is different but not necessarily better/worse. I think it's just a different style that I've gotten used to. I could use either set, but I think I like the GHWT drums more. Meh, guess it's more of a personal preference, but not much to base it on besides setup and the quietness of the pads.

I've officially given up on using the SingStar mics. While they may work for others, I've found them pretty unreliable and I still never got the cowbell/clapping thing to work. Let's just say YMMV.

Anyone know if the code to let you rip the RB1 tracks for play in RB2 is sharable? I can save $4 if it is.

Dr. SP (truly cheap)
