I have read a lot about upgrading the HDD in the PS3 and have even watched a few videos on doing it and I just wanted to make sure that I had all of the info before I plunged into buying a new HDD. Most of the posts have recomended to use certain drives but these were used on 60 and 80Gb launch PS3's and mine being a newer 40 Gb model the HDD goes in differently. I was wondering:
1: Has anyone done this on a newer 40 Gb PS3?
2: Is there anything different about it versus the 60 or 80Gb models?
3: What drives are recomended?

I realize that I have to use a 2.5" SATA internal notebook HDD but is there anything else that I need to know?

Thanks

Not really. Don't spend more money on a 7200 RPM. The PS3 uses a 5300 RPM just fine.

I'd personally recommend Western Digital. I've had an external hard drive with them for a few years and never had an issue. I would avoid Toshiba like a plague. Toshiba is the reason I invested in an external hard drive in the first place. On my laptop, I went through three Toshiba hard drives because they over heated, and we all know the PS3 gets hot enough as it is.

This thread (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=172479) would probably be helpful.
