I won't buy Star Wars new because of the way they treated their employees and I don't buy EA games (published or developed) new. Oh sorry, yeah they've never seemed to have it listed online for some reason. For what it's worth though it seems many areas, mine included, the online store checker hasn't been updated for about 3 weeks or so. Best bet is to call a GameStop to see if they have any, and if they don't you can possibly talk them into doing a search for you to find where the nearest one is.

The last time we had an accessory coupon like this, I had stated the price on the first page, the 3rd page, and another page and that question still got asked about 10 different times. Doesn't matter where the information is, it will still get asked. Just like the "does this stack with used deal of the week?" or "Does this stack with edge?" or "Does this stack with other coupons?". The answers to those questions never change, but they still get asked. Guess it's just the dangers of the forums. It even says in the first post with all the ad information that edge stacks with the coupon. Still gets asked. Yeah but the 25% only applies to games and not accessories and with B2G1 you need to find three things that are the same price to get the best discount. So picking up a hard drive, an extra controller, or some rockband instruments would make great use of this coupon.

Don't feel bad. My area is generally crap, but it's a smaller city too. Not sure where sum is from, but if he is in a larger metropolitan area, it'd a lot easier. I find some gems every once in a while around here though.

I found Too Human a week after a release, Mercenaries 2 two weeks after release. I've even come across complete limited editions of games like Madden 09 20th Anniversary, Assassin's Creed Limited Edition, Soul Calibur IV Premium Edition and a few others. It's nice to find those gems every once in a while.

I wanted to pick up a used, wired 360 controller, if I could find one that wasn't beat to shit. $21 (after the coupon and EDGE) is a crappy price, but I have had credit there for a little while, and I need a wired controller. Anyway, a few days ago, the closest one was a few miles away. Then, this morning, all the stores around me suddenly had them in stock. It seems that, either on purpose or by mistake, GS has merged the stock for the 1st and 3rd party wired controllers, but the page does not reflect it. For those that are buying Wiis used, it is not guarenteed to come with one. GS, for example, is probably a large retailer in the used Wii market. They do not include them and instead sell them for 10 bucks used.

I am sure people leave GS, get home, realize they don't have it, then order it off ebay to get it.

Found a green Halo 3 Edition Wireless controller. Pretty sweet deal. Still need to find a Green Halo controller for the original xbox though.

The 120 gb HDD is a steal at $70 after this coupon + edge especially with the ability to install games coming and all this RB content available.

As for Wii Sports, they hit on it on the last couple CAGcasts, but the only games that seem to sell on the Wii are games bundled with an accessory (WiiPlay, WiiFit, MarioKart) yet there is a huge install base. People have to be playing something on their systems (or they are just sitting there and collecting dust like many of ours are), so in a way WiiSports has become the killer app for the Wii since it appears alot of people buy the system, play WiiSports and don't end up buying much else.

I'm telling you it seems like almost every other time I'm at a GS, one of the two things happens.

1. Parent comes in to return M rated game that they just bought for their 10 year old the day before. They realize they can only trade it in since it is opened.

2. Parent comes in with bratty child to trade in a game that they bought yesterday because the kid didn't like it. Kid played a $60 game for 10 minutes and has parent trade it in for $25 the next day.

That being said, I'm not really surprised any of this stuff gets traded in the same week it releases.

That is every single year. There is ALWAYS summer slowdown, and it ramps back up in October. Gamestop thrives in a weak economy, just like any other shop that sells preowned stuff, like the Goodwill stuff like that. I think it's paranoia to think that 'using a coupon too much' will cause GS to skimp even more. GS has composed all most half of the gaming industry's profits in previous years... a couple of coupons aren't going to make them freak out.

They had this exact same coupon like 2 months ago. It's literally the same coupon, just different EBC code. It's a standard coupon. You are being WAY too paranoid about them dropping all the coupons to 20%. They have a fairly standard way of doing the coupons and they repeat them throughout the year. I seem to remember UMDs included in a previous GS coupon like this one, so I think they are considered games. If not, the argument could be made that they are PSP accessories, so the current coupon should work either way.

there are plenty of economic studies that show increased spending for services like movie theaters and products such as video games during tougher times. if you think about it, there's solid rationale behind this. more people might be seeking out ways to de-stress and get away from their troubles; the videogame industry's boom in the face of a recession is hardly surprising.

those suggesting that companies like gamestop are hurting are just wrong -- they're doing just fine. in fact, they're doing better than ever. I'm not saying the music won't stop for gamestop some time in the future (presuming games go down the same road as movies -- but i think we're still a ways before that's going to happen.

Funny thing is when the economy was good we didn't have these weekly coupons. It's better being a Gamestop shopper then it ever was IMO.
Not too much usage with the coupon. I picked up a PS3 Eyetoy mislabeled as a PS2 Eyetoy. 3.50 after coupon and Edge. Also got LaPucelle Tactics for a little under 9.99.

They really are better coupons. I never knew about weekly coupons back then either. I was happy to find a damn coupon in my Game Informer twice year or wait for that B2G1 sale that came around the holidays.

Bad economy affecting the video game sales? Quite possibly the new game market, but not the used one. Overall I don't think a bad economy really affects Gamestop that much. Most CAGs will pick up a $54.99 used copy of the latest game w/ coupons and edge card and pay around $40 for that game. They still made $10 or more since they probably only gave $20 - $30 to the guy who really didn't like Mercs 2/ SWTFU/NHL 2009/whatever.

Do you really think every sale is like this and that tens thousands of coupons are gonna be used this week on that newly traded $54.99 game? Not likely. Your average consumer doesn't have the time for coupons and wants things now w/ none of the hassle. They'll buy a new copy for their son, themselves, etc. Or possibly buy that used copy for $54.99. And if the employee could get them interested, they'll pay $49.99 for the game but also shell out $14.99 for a GI subscription and the edge card. But GS only paid $30 for that game. They're still making $30 plus another $15 for a magazine that makes its money on advertising and NOT subscriptions.

Look at it this way: What if CAGs and GS newsletter subscribers use a total of 5,000 coupons during the coupon period to buy one $54.99 game? In other words, can you really say that GS is going to be pissed that the coupon cheats them out of $82,000 when they only gave trade-in values of $150,000 ($30 a pop) for those games? They'll still make $192,000, which is a profit of $42,000 if all 5000 are bought using the 20% off coupon and the edge card. Oh wait AND that doesn't include the fact that they sold these each game to someone else for $59.99 brand new in the first place. There's even more money in GS's pocket.

Bad economy means nothing to GS. They're still going to make money off a used game sale even with the coupons. For them to scrap 25% and 30% off coupons would just hurt the sales they get from communities like CAG.

They are not considered games. During the last PSP 25% off coupon, I tried using the coupon on Akira and only the Edge discount was applied.

I asked the same question before attempting to use the coupon and someone responded that it would work but it was a no go.

Please let us know if you are successful with this coupon. There are some cheap umds that I want to pick up. :)

Had a really good GS trip last night. Traded in Pokemon Diamond ($20 - $28 after the cell phone coupon) and Nervous Brickdown ($5 - $7 after coupon). Then snagged a used PS3 copy of Force Unleashed for $38.50 after coupon. I only ended up owing a little over $7 after taxes. And I actually got paid $5 to play Pokemon for a couple of months, since I picked it up in Amazon's DOTD for $23 a few months back. :-P

Amazingly, there were single copies of Infinite Undiscovery and the anniversary edition of Madden 2009, both for Xbox. I had both in my hand at one point, but I put them back because IU was missing the manual, and Madden looked like somebody had used it as an actual football. It was cool to at least find them, though.

I'm debating heading back today to get a few other small titles, but I'm pretty happy with my haul.

The business made MORE in August this year than it did last year... the only "downside" was it was only 9% instead of the double digit growth seen in previous months... these coupons are RARELY used in most gamestops, most know little about them... and as it has been mentioned there has been a 20% off coupon before which was followed up with the higher specialized coupons for individual systems... you will see the higher markdowns on the crap GS needs to get rid of so they can have more store space for the newest games like xbox games

Pretty much dead on. It's a known fact that Gamestop's bread and butter is the used game market, and there's only a finite amount of space any store can devote to it. Gamestop gets a "restock" of used inventory daily, as anyone who's seen used copies of Force Unleashed or Rock Band 2 can attest to. Clearing out all of the older used inventory (pretty much anything $24.99 and under) with these 20% off coupons makes them around $16.xx with edge, and Joe Consumer looks at that as a huge deal (hell, even I do - there's plenty of games I wouldn't buy for $24 used but would jump on under $20). The more used games Gamestop sells, the more space they've got for higher-profile used games on the shelf. That's why we see these things cycled with trade-in promotions - it keeps the inventory moving, and adds new things to the shelf.

Used games are pure profit for Gamestop anyway. That's why the trade values are low compared to other stores - the bonus offers sometimes make them comparable, and the used coupons make it seem like we're getting a great deal. They're a lot smarter than most give them credit for. ;)

If you like the Disgaea series well, it is beyond incredible. If you haven't gotten into the series and even mildly enjoy SRPGs...get it. With coupon and edge it's going to be roughly $30 + tax, and Disgaea games EASILY offer 100+ hours of play. I'm enjoying my copy and honestly if it wasn't for the MGS bundle back in June, I would've considered getting a PS3 for this game (though I am an enormous fan of most-all things Atlus/NIS).

When my 360 RODed I went through Circuit City because I bought the warranty from them on launch day. That meant sending my entire system back, thus I had no means of saving my game saves unless I purchased a memory card, which I did. I only bought a 64mb card but it was more than enough for all of my game saves, plus Geometry Wars. Everything else I easily redownloaded with no trouble. The only downer is that for some screwed up reason you cannot copy DOA4 and Perfect Dark game saves which sucks, because I had all of the characters and a ton of costumes unlocked in DOA4.

I see the game saves are like KBs, so I can def fit most of the stuff onto both memory cards. As for XBLA games, the game save is tied into your gamertag right? So I can just easily re-download everything, right? It sounds annoying, but it's not too bad. Especially since you set it to run 6 games at a time.

Let me know if all of this is accurate. I don't care if I have to download XBLA games. I just don't want to lose data.

Game saves are tied with your gamertag. If you copy your GT and all your saves over to a memory card, and then copy from memory card to the new 360, they will all work just fine. Or if you recover your GT and then copy your gamesaves from the memory card, that wll work as well. I've done both, multiple times on my own 360s as well as friends'. You cannot redownload any saves... they all exist on your HD.

*edit* you can redownload the XBLA games, but be sure to use that DRM tool from Microsoft!

Yes, 9% was a lot worse than previous months. If the coupons are rarely used then Gamestop can figure they won't be alienating many of their customers if they go to 20%. We already discussed the previous 20% coupon. There's not much to talk about that already has been. You have your opinion and I have mine. To answer your first question, Colonies is a lot more fun than the Original one only if you have Xbox Live. Because more people play it online than the original and it has more online modes that are great because you play as the Akrid. Also it has more offline modes like trial and survival mode.
