My cousin used to do my hair for me all the time and sometimes the color would stay for a few weeks sometimes for just a day or 2 then fade green. We never figured out why it happened which kinda bugged me. But now when my fiancee does my hair it always turns green no matter what color I use(except green which turns piss yellow). If anyone has ideas what might be going wrong id love to hear it.
Little more info. My hair is a very dark black as shown in the first pic below. Iv used lots of different brands from punky color to manic panic and special effects. The second link below you can see a pic of the ugly yellow my hair turns after the last time I tried dying it purple(or blue cant recall)with special effects. I always bleach first and have followed the bleach/dye directions exactly.

Yes im sure im going to get flamed to hell and back and it will be interesting to many. I just want a decent answer, iv never been happier in my life with how I looked then when I had an awesome purple Mohawk...and that includes whenever I was running a few miles a day and in pretty decent shape.

If you have never heard of the site and wear glasses get ready for a treat. Their prescription and I got them for like $12 shipped. Iv had both that pair a sick green and black pair of glasses for about a year now and not only are they good glasses but probally better then any of my $300 pairs I had bought before hand. Ya fucking love my glasses, iv got a pair thats similar but its a sick green and black. Fucking love them and my fiancee loves her blue and black ones and her rose ones.
Heres a link to the site. Should save you alot of money.

I've dyed my hair a few times, and have tended to have the same problem. Is the difference possibly the bleach you use?

A few years back I dyed my hair punk red...I had to bleach it first and then used the red...I had to re apply it ever few showers but never had an issue. I can't remember the names of the products I used either.

Iv wondered the same thing too. Its really frustrating. I just watched a few videos on youtube on dying hair and it seems im doing everything the exact same as most people and use the same brand of dye! I cant recall what bleach I bought but I know I bought it at sally just like most others and I bought the good stuff....so.

Yea, I use bleach from Sally's, and while my hair is only slightly lighter than yours, when bleached, it goes to almost white. Colors stay in for a good few weeks before they look really ratty (they fade, of course, but not too bad). Only time I ever had anything go green was when I put blue dye into bleached blond hair.

See there has to clearly be something im doing wrong because my shit does not turn white...hell if I could get my hair to turn white id probally just keep it white(iv always wanted white or better yet Silver hair like my grandpa got when he was in his 20s). At best my hair turns blonde but most of the time I leave it in forever and it still only goes a mix of yellow and light brown.

You got to bleach it again if you want it lighter. I have jet black hair and my hair turns orange-ish with the first bleach application. Just wash your hair after its done and apply again, it will turn lighter.

I've always wanted to have a nice red spiked mohawk. Ya know, with big solid spikes, not tiny ones. For a few years in high school I had liberty spikes, but it was so damn annoying to do, I had to wake up earlier in the morning to glue them up and my hair is wavy so it's a pain in the ass.
I've never dyed or bleached my hair though, I feel like it'll ruin it :-P. I'm starting to get some gray now though so maybe I should just bleach it and dye it red.

White's tough to get. I've always wanted it, but my hair's already like fishing line after a single bleach, I usually don't like to do it again. For you though, since your hair is so dark, it might take two bleachings to get it a good shade.

Ya see iv got jet black hair. Do you bleach it, wash the stuff out, let it dry then immediately bleach it again, or do you wait a day or two in between? Also do you just do the 2 times or does it take a few tries? I know bleaching too much not only fries your hair but can do some bad permanent damage.

Ya I wouldnt want to do liberty spikes all the time but it would be cool to do once. I never have though because I cant justify using that much hair spray and gel. I mean its a stupid expense and bad for the enviorment so I tend to keep my spikes only a few inches long as you can see in the pics.
This dudes spikes are awesome but I mean fuck the hassle and expense that shit takes.

Back in the day, I washed it after the first...let it dry, then do it again a couple hours later. I never went for white, just wanted it light enough to dye, so I only did it twice at a time.

Thanks for the info. Hate to put any money out right now but I think im going to have to go out and buy some dye and bleach and try 1 more time. If it fails this time I fucking give up for good and will just keep my black mohawk till I go grey ;)

Typical amount of developer (2oz? 4oz?). Use 20 volume - you have to let it sit 1.5 times as long, but your hair will stay stronger.
And most importantly, red-gold corrector! http://store.hello-gorgeous.net/redgocopl.html
That'll strip out the orange color you're left with.
Also, all those dyes you listed are semi-permanent. Fading after 5 days is typical. You have to use those dyes bi-weekly to maintain the color, and even then it's not perfect. There aren't, to my knowledge, permanent nontraditional colors available. Could be wrong, as it's been 7 years or more since I last colored my hair.

Yeah those spikes are ridiculously huge. My idea is something more around 5 or 6 inches max. When I did my spikes I had my hair cut for it once and at that time I got them around maybe between 3 and 4 inches.
The worst part really was just that you can't lean your head on anything, lol. When you get tired there's no comfortable way to put your head down except onto your face...

Thanks myke....usually anytime you saw me mention hair or a mohawk you called me an attention whore...so kinda odd to have you respond this way. Its always bugged me that all the stuff is semi permanent, but it seems to work for others and iv never been able to find permanent hair dye.

Meh. I'm a teachin' now, so I can't do what I used to do. Figure someone else can.
Besides, good lookin' out on that cheap glasses site. I need a few new pairs.
I keep telling my wife I'm getting a facial tattoo the day I get tenure. I'm not sure if I'm joking or not, though.

See but what im saying is if you have that style why did you pick such fights with me over wearing nail polish or having a mohawk. Regardless Ill drop it after your response no need to bring up old wounds. I dont know if Id ever get a face tattoo but iv got my hands tattooed and im thinking of getting a full neck tattoo. My fiancee and I are going to get the Prince and Princess from Katamari rolling up the opposing one as well as hearts and other related items. Im going to have it starting on one side and wrapping to the other.

Hehe ya I look best in a trimmed goatee and mustache or letting just the goatee get long.....im really bad though about only shaving every other month or so. Funny thing is my fiancee has grown to freaking love it heh. And yes I was surprised too that it took that long to get insulted. Was nice for a chage! As you said though im getting layed which is more then half the guys here probably can say ;)

Never use to dye it with extreme colours! When i was like 15 i use to dye it jet black, but my hair grows really fast so the roots would come through really fast and i use to get sick of touching it up all the time. So i stopped :)
I did like it jet black though, suited me IMO.

She's in love with herself - she likes the dark
On her milk white neck - the Devil's mark
Now it's all Hallows Eve - the moon is full
Will she trick or treat - i bet she will
She will - happy halloween - baby
She's got a date at midnight - with Nosferatu
Oh baby, Lilly Munster - ain't got nothing on you
Well when i called her evil - she just laughed
Well cast that spell on me - boo bitch craft
Yeah you wanna go out 'cause it's raining and blowing

Rock Band needs some Type O Negative.
My brother always used to buy his dye at Sally's Beauty Supply. Don't remember the name of the brand, but I'm pretty sure that's a national chain.
I remember him dying it so often that it actually lost the color and wouldn't hold any new dye - it turned a creepy opaque.

The only kind of dye that would ever work well for me was dye for chicks. No, I couldn't have blue or green hair but there are some odd Revlon colors out there that will stay in forever. I found a really dark purple once upon a time.

I use to have my (brown) hair dyed black, for like two years. After I stopped it ended up a lot darker brown than it was originally. Which, yeah, that's how it works, but I wanted to share.
