I have a question for those of you who are frequent users of the Edge card by Gamestop. I recently got an Edge card about 3 months ago and have not really used it since. (I got it free with trades so I figured why not). I just noticed today while cleaning out my wallet that the sticker that they put on the card (my Edge Barcode) has faded so much that it is barely readable (most likely not scanable). Will they replace the card with a new one or can they look me up in the system? I have over $300 worth of credit on the card (gonna go pre-order alot of games soon). Thanks for the help.

First off, you probably DID get charged for the card. If you had the receipt from them, you should check on it, since they probably tacked it on somehow. You never get ANYTHING for FREE from Gamestop.

Second, the cards' magnetic strip has the credit on it, not the barcode. The barcode fading is a well known problem of the printed sticker they use for the Edge card. If anything, have them look up your information(they CAN do it, don't let them bullshit you otherwise) and re-print you a sticker.

Then, have them put a piece of clear packing tape over just the barcode sticker or if they don't have any, put a piece on as SOON as you get back home. That should stop any future fading and still allow you to use your combined Edge card/credit.

Thanks. I knew that it would not have anything to do with my credit I just remember how much of a pain it was a few years ago (last time I had an EDGE card) to get the account stuff. The reason I said FREE was because I traded a shit ton of games in and the 10% extra bonus you get on trade ins more than paid for the card.

Bring in a copy of Game Informer you've received in the mail. They'll be able to print a new sticker for you from the account # on the magazine, and then have them put the round clear plastic sticker over it.

And by the way, IAmTheCheapest, we can always look up your information, but the Edge card number isn't always stored on-file. They only recently started taking down phone numbers along with Game Informer subscriptions, and at the same time removed the ability to look up people by name (so now it's either "phone number you used when you signed up" or there's nothing we can do).

The only time I think I ever traded in tons of games to Gamestop was when I didn't know that Blockbuster takes them in as well AND gives tons more than most of the TIV's from GS. Ever since then, unless it's something I got uber cheap and it gets a buttload of credit, then I'm definitely trading it elsewhere.

My sticker has faded a number of times in the past. I just leave the card in my car, now, instead of my wallet. They really need to find a better way to do it.

If they refuse to look up your info, just go "Man, and I was gonna put down a couple preorders too."

When mine was faded they told me to call corporate to figure it out. Corporate told me to go to GS and have them call corporate to figure it out. So I would just tell the people at GS that corporate told you to have them call their corporate office.

Well I already had a subscription to Game Informer (though they scanned it anyway to sign me up, presuming it just adds to my subscription) so I dont know if that will do a whole lot.

I was actually flipping a few games between Blockbuster and Gamestop so that I could build up enough credit for a few games this holiday (moneys a bit tight right now)

Funny thing is thats exactly what I was going to do. I want to pre-order Little Big Planet and Resistance 2 (for starters)

EDIT: I put it under a magnifying class and was able to make out the numbers (I think). Funny thin is there is a piece of heavy clear tape over it (did not even notice it) But it still faded. Not sure how thats even possible.
