Check it guys:
I went to GameStop just right now and was asking the manager (a friend) if its true if the 20 dollar trade in bonus for the PlayStation 2/X-Box was back on starting Sunday.
He took me into the back to show me a preview of the new specials and guess what I found to my amazement...
...There is now a $100 dollar trade in credit (towards a new system, DS Lites, PSP's included!) special they are about to run (I am not sure for how long) if u trade in the following:
-PlayStation 2
-2 Controllers (one of them MUST be a Dual Shock 2, the other can be third party)
-One PS2 Memory card (third party will suffice! :D)
-4 PS2 Games (the catch is they must all have at LEAST 2 dollar trade in value)
Yes, thats right, if you can scrounge up all these things (which, if you own a PlayStation 2, you probably have all 4 anyway) then you can get 100 freaking dollars in trade in credit (towards a new system - see below).
I am 100 percent positive of these 4 things, and i read all of the fine print. IF you can get all of the above listed, 100 dollars in trade in credit is yours.
Happy Flipping! :applause:
UPDATE: Good news, Bad News, and Better News
Good news: It is confirmed that old fat ps2's qualify as well as the slimline
Bad News: 100 dollar trade in credit must be towards new system :/ ...
Better news: ...can anyone say 29.99 DS Lites or 99.99 X-Box 360 Arcades? 8-) (yes, i spoke to the manager, and any system that is new, including ds lites, psp's e.t.c. will qualify!)

the picture has the slim. there was nothing in the fine print that says it must be slimline. i read it over 10 times. so i guess, for now until we know for sure, its ymmv

I was wondering when they were going to put this offer. Back when the PS1 was out they had a trade in your playstation with ten games for $100 towards a PS2. Depending on how you look at it it might be a better deal if you have an extra controller and the games. I just hope that it's also for the original.

Could be true... I remember a long time back when they had a special for trading in a PS1, controller, (the gray model) plus $5 acceptable games (anything worth more than $.25 trade in) for $50 credit.
Good deal if true.
Our's has a loose controller 1 which doesn't work 90% of the time unless you fidget with it so that's probably a no go for us...:-\

They did this a while ago except it was just a ps2, memory card, and extra controller. But then it was for an upgrade to a PS3. This one is an upgrade to a next-gen system I believe, aka 360, ps3 or wii.
yesitsreallyjosh

first of all, THIS IS TRUE. i saw a big beautiful poster for this with gamestops trademark thick bold red and white font, the manager had just received the poster, took me to the back and showed me it.
I am telling you guys, i read the fine print on the poster. nowhere were the words slimline on there (from what i can recall, and i tend to recall things quite well).
all of you out there thinking this is possibly bogus, i can assure you its definitely NOT bogus, although there IS a possiblity (due to the fact that the picture had a slimline), that it could be slimline only.
the fine print only stated that one controller must be dualshock 2, and all games must have trade in value of at least 2 dollars. those were the only exceptions there on the big poster in small print.
can anyone say "20% off any used accessory or games coupon" that we just got to fill in the blanks, should we need an extra game or two or accessory (i.e. dual shock 2, memory card)? :)
EDIT: oh and by the way, he showed me all the promos. i cant remember the other ones (other than 20 percent bonus towards gears and fallout 3 i believe). the reason i cant remember them is because of a combination of the fact that they weren't too fantastic and this ps2 deal blew my mind. no posters were there saying anything about the 3 - $15 dollar bonus being extended, so i am under the assumption that it ends tomorrow :/

Marvel vs Capcom

If this is true, I have a feeling Sony may be giving Gamestop a little money trying to get PS2 owners to upgrade. I mean if you look at the NPD, the PS2/3 versions of Madden, if combined, had more copies sold than the 360 version of Madden.
Of course there's the whole thing of Sony losing the RPG King title to 360 and many other issues, but if this deal is true, it's TOO GOOD to pass up.

I called a few locations in Vancouver WA (Portland OR's hat) and they had no idea what I was talking about. They mentioned a deal where you trade in your PS2 toward a PS3, but did not have any promos for an increased trade in amount on PS2's.
Can any one confirm that this is actually going on?
EDIT - Called another store and this promo starts tomorrow (Monday), everything op stated was correct. Apparently the first girl I talked to was struck with a sudden case of illiteracy when she looked at the current and upcoming deals.

09-21-2008, 03:49 PM
I just went to my local gamestop and the promo starts tommorrow. I spoke with a manager and I was told you can trade the slim or the older model. The catch is trying to find 4 games now that trade in for $2 or more.
Indiana Jones
09-21-2008, 03:53 PM
The catch is finding four games that work toward the deal. You can easily get cheap PS2 games on Craig's List, maybe even at stores' clearance shelves. But if you can't trade them in, you're stuck with them.

Saw the banner today, and I'm sorry to break the news, but while this offer is true, it states in big bold print that it's "$100 credit towards a NEW SYSTEM purchase". So no, they're not just giving you $100 credit to buy whatever you want. You have to use it on a PS3, 360, or Wii purchase.

I suppose I wouldn't be able to trade in a PS2 with a damaged top, right? I stupidly used nail polish remover (didn't realize it had acetone) to remove a dumb looking decal on a system I bought used for only around $30, inadvertently making the system look even worse, peeling away layers of black plastic in some areas, and replacing them with an ugly white. There's no way I could get it past them, right? >_>

Figured something was missing in the OP.... I don't need any new systems but this thread reminded me I have a slim PS2 stuck in the top of my closet. Called a GS on the west coast and they give $30 for the system.. Next time they run the $20 system bonus i'll probably send it packing.
Not a bad deal though if you need a new system. Basically $50 for an extra controller, memory card and 4 crappy games assuming crappy games that have a $2 TIV.

No, it is NOT two dual shock 2 controllers, just one. you can talk to whoever you want from gamestop, but ultimately they have to honor what it says on the poster, and on the poster in fine print it says only ONE of the 2 controllers has to be a dual shock 2 and it specifically says the other CAN be a third party controller.

Quick related story. I wanted to get a little money off the PSP I plan on buying with the money from selling the PS2 I already have. I looked on cragslist for anyone selling a bundle similar to the one they are taking at GS and sure enough came across one for 60 bucks. No games listed but it had everything else. Got to the guys house and he tells me he'll sell me any of the games he has for 5 bucks. I took the first four that looked in decent condition and should be worth more than $2. But what is the next game in the stack? Marvel vs. Capcom 2. On top of all of this he threw it in for free. $70 for everything I need to get the $100 at GS and a free copy of MvC2. Sweet.

That's good then, since I believe I have two extra Dual Shock 2's sitting around here someplace that I picked up for $5 each from a thrift store and a DS 2 that was mispriced @ a GS store.
As for the memory card, my local store sells third party ones for $5 each I think AND I think they also have stacks and stacks of the DRE PS2's that I can just gently peel the seal off of, clean and dump off on GS.
The games should be no problem either, as the local shop has buttloads of games for $5 and under each.
If we had actually had info of this deal leak out SOONER, I would've just saved my PS2 fat model that I had instead of trading it in for the extra $20 deal at the end of August.

Just a quick note. I read thread fast and may have missed somebody mentioning... The banner at my stores says 2 "Dualshock 2" controllers. The staff at my main store took that to mean 2 first party controllers. Are the 3rd party still referred to as "Dualshock 2" cause if not, people could run into problems there...? Just something to be aware of...
ETA: Was back at the store earlier and the fine print answered my question. 3rd party controllers can be considered "Dualshock 2" controllers and the fine print stated that one had to be first party. Ignore the post. Move along... Move along...

Last 2 PS2 games I traded in were the original Persona 3 (kept the art book/CD and got FES from Amazon since I hadn't played the game yet) and Obscure 1 in conjunction with a promotion and their base TIV was $8-$12 (don't remember exact as it's been awhile.)

Hmm after some google-ing, apparently, Gamestop barely tests the system you trade in. Most of the time, they just turn it on to see if it boots or they try a game out for 10-15 minutes. Anyone know if there is any truth in this? My PS2 works a little but seems to freeze a lot.

09-22-2008, 04:23 PM
Most of the PS2s I see traded in they just see if the game boots. Go in when they are busy and you'll get that kind of treatment where they will just see if a game boots properly.

I don't know if it still does, but the PS2 network adapter got a better amount on Ebay a while back for ummmm other purposes than originally intended. As far I remember though, I think the TIV is either $1 or $5. In other words, not much at all.

I'm looking at the discontinued CAGwiki and will be printing out the list of PS2 trade-in values. Hopefully, I can find four of these games on the cheap.
From the BBV thread-
PS2 games - BBV price -> GS TIV:
Golden Compass - $4.99 -> $4
Iridium Runners - $4.99 -> $5
Xenosaga ep 2 - $2.99 -> $3
These games can be found at Blockbuster used. You might want to check the TIV first since these are about a month old.

Most of the PS2s I see traded in they just see if the game boots. Go in when they are busy and you'll get that kind of treatment where they will just see if a game boots properly.
Yeah, when I traded in my PS2, they plugged it in, got a game to boot, and that was that.
I don't know if it still does, but the PS2 network adapter got a better amount on Ebay a while back for ummmm other purposes than originally intended. As far I remember though, I think the TIV is either $1 or $5. In other words, not much at all.
Yep, the network adapter still fetches a fair amount on eBay. I see auctions at $40+. When GS had the $20 coupon off PS2 and Xbox consoles, I think a bunch of people on here were buying that PS2 "network combo" for $60 and then selling the network adapter on eBay, usually ending up with the PS2 for like $20.

I just did this deal to pick up a 360 arcade. It took them forever to find the promo and ring it up. I guess the extra $20 for a system kept coming up instead. Also I got my edge card to stack with this promo and ended up getting about $110. They also made me trade in an extra Dual Shock 2 (which wasn't a big deal since its all I had anyways) so maybe keep an eye out for that. Here are a few trade in values as well:
LEGO Star Wars $5
LEGO Star Wars: Original Trilogy $7
Incredible Hulk: UD $7
Spongebob Squarepants: Creature?? $4
LEGO Indiana Jones $16
I used the top four games for the promo and trade in LEGO IJ separately.

if you buy a used game from BBV to trade in to GS does it need to have the original case and artwork and instructions etc...
I have a PS2 and about 50 old games and 3 controllers they can have it all for $100 off a PSP slim.

GS does accept disc-only games. Some may charge you a refurb fee but YMMV. With 50 PS2 games, you should get way more than $100.

It doesn't matter because if it does not come with original case and manual they just throw whatever you bring it in with and stick it in a cardboard sleeve.

They are ancient games. The 2 newest games would be Need for Speed Most wanted and Carbon. Think those are worth 2 bucks? I heard someone say ratchet and clank. Are old Ratchet and Clanks or any old games worth 2 bucks?

With these types of deals, ones that aren't for a pre-order, you need to buy the item right then and there.

Define old games, since if it's stuff like Ico and some RPG's, I'd say to just trade/sell them here, since you should get more for them here than Gamestop.
Of course, they'll need to be in great shape and with the original artwork/case and so on.

That's the only drawback really, but I can't complain since I got rid of all of my older games in one shot with ONE CAG and aside from agreeing that the price I wanted would be the price SHIPPED, there was no lowballing at all.

Do you have to trade in 2 controllers? The promotion ad only states that you have to trade in 1x sony brand controller.
Also, this is probably a long shot but, this doesn't stack right? I wouldn't be able to trade in 2x ps2's with the mentioned requirements for $200 credit towards a new system right?

Just traded in my ancient fat PS2. This sucker only reads discs when it's in the mood. I once reset the console for an hour trying to play GT4. Once I got it working I would leave it on for months at a time. So when they hooked up my PS2 to test it I knew I was in trouble. He grabbed 1 of my games to do the test and it wouldn't load. I was like, oh that disc must be scratched. He tried another and it worked. Phew. He also went so far as to start a game and make sure the controller worked. It was so grimy I'm surprised he even wanted to touch it.
So I traded in that POS plus...
GT4 ($2.50)
Grandia Xtreme ($5)
Shadow of the Colossus ($6)
God of War ($3)
Despite the wording you actually do need 2 controllers. 1 to trade in with the system and 1 Sony DS2. I only had the 1 DS2 so I bought a used 3rd party controller for $8. Not an ideal situation buy given the state of the PS2 I was trading in I couldn't complain.
So with my credit I bought a crimson DS. I also got a used Zelda: PH with the 20% off coupon they have going now. I've never used, or even seen, a DS before. I have to say so far I am very happy.
Great deal. Thanks to those that brought this to our attention.

I didn't read the entire thread but...
What's the worst case scenario here? If one has all the requirements except the minimum $2 value games, what do they get? (Otherwise known as what do you normally get if the trade offer didn't exist?)
I ask because a friend of mine has a PS2 slim with at least 2 dualshocks (maybe 4), memory cards, and 15 games but I'm willing to bet 10 to 12 of them are sports.
He also has an Xbox with 2 controllers. I figure there wouldn't be much trade in value for either, but maybe I'm wrong?

09-23-2008, 03:15 AM
So you cannot store the credit for future use? Asking, because I wouldn't have the 200+, at least not for another 2 weeks (which I think the deal expires then).

i think if you combine this and the 20% off on any used game or system, you can get a used 360 for about $40. :)
sh** nvm its game or accessory.
Question: can i buy a system with the $100 credit, then trade it back in for any purpose credit? how much any purpose credit would i get if i did this with a 360?
or would i get more any purpose credit just trading in my ps2? (not using the offer)

This is not a good idea. Lets say you use the credit to buy a refurb 360 for $169.99. You would have to pay the balance in cash (including tax, if any). IIRC, a 360 gets $90 TIV. You would basically be out the amount you paid in cash.
or would i get more any purpose credit just trading in my ps2? (not using the offer)
Nope. Your best bet is to buy the 360 and get a gift receipt. Wait some days and return the system to another GS with the gift receipt. Others on here have reported doing this with games during promos like get an extra xx% on trades when you use credit to buy x game. Of course, this is all YMMV.
The gift receipt is to hide the fact that you got extra credit using the promo. Not sure how the refund is issued since payment was store credit/cash.
Just to give you another option: Just use this promo as it is intended to be used. It is not a bad deal if you have an unused PS2 and are looking to buy a new system. If you're able to get away with the above scenario, more power to you. Good Luck.

Definitely 2 controllers. The system wouldn't allow the deal until I added an extra controller. Apparently they only accept systems with controllers which is why the ad doesn't mention 2 controllers. It's 1 system with any 1 controller and 1 additional Sony DS2 controller.

I agree that trading in rare/big money games with this deal is stupid because for every dollar over the $2 minimum, that's knocking value off your PS2, DS2 controller, and memory card.
HOWEVER, I think if utilized properly, this can be a great deal. Take this recipe: old "quasi-working" PS2 that you never play anymore, glitchy DS2 controller, butt ugly third party controller that none of your friends will even touch, 4 crappy licensed games (Madagascar anyone?), and a memory card that you really don't need because most of your PS2 saves now sit on your PS3.
Now, that $100 doesn't sound so bad does it? I know I'd be worried if I sold that kind of stuff on eBay that the buyer would bitch relentlessly after receiving it. Normally, I'd say "You're screwing fellow gamers by trading junk in to GS!" But is anybody else surprised that they're still pursuing used PS2 systems (ESPECIALLY phats) this aggressively? I mean, who's buying these??? The only people buying crappy, old PS2s at GS's ridiculous prices are morons. And as the old saying goes, you can lead a moron to water, but you can't make him do a little research before buying an old video game system!

I agree with your post. If you have the system lying around, and don't have to go buy expensive items just to meet the requirements, then you could always find a way of making it beneficial. Of course, Gamestop is counting on getting the customers with the mint condition system, controllers, and copies of SMT:N, Zoe 2, SH 2, SH 3, etc., instead of smart CAGs.

Do employees generally look for signs that the system has been opened when they check the system?
It depends on the employee, but I went to FOUR Gamestops during the $20 bonus deal before one of them took in my PS2 with an RF switch(they normally require the composite cable) and the broken seal. I took the credit, bought a DS 3 for my PS3 and ran like hell, even though that thing(model 50001) still read games like a champ.
I have $$$ because I'm not lazy. I don't need to waste time playing games on ebay which requires no imagination whatsoever. If you weren't so lazy and had imagination you wouldn't have to put hours into saving 25 cents. What because you've been here 3 years you think you can condescend to me? You keep flipping games for chump change I'll work with the thousands of dollars. I notice there are an awful lot of haters around here. I'd be bitter too if I've been here for years and still playing a system a generation behind
RELAX will you. He said it like that since you're just going to sell everything for one low amount, when you COULD make more money selling the games seperately. But that is assuming you have anything that's worth anything. If it's all sports games in that box, then I'd actually be shocked if you even got $5 for the games, since most people don't collect sports titles.
But definitely having that sort of attitude on here isn't going to get you very far. So just chill out, ok? No one is trying to insult you.
As for me, I like flipping games between a couple stores, as it means I spend less out of my own pocket and have more to spend on games I want without having to pay real cash.

He called me lazy and unimaginative. don't play stupid....
You think I'm going to say something nice to him?
My box of games might have been able to help a CAG
But if the senior members have an attitude liek that I'll give them to goodwill first.
Oh and I don't like sports games. There might be 2 in that box. I only bought the madden psps because it came with other stuff.

I'm also a senior member(since 2005) and while I get snippy at times, I know that instead of selling all of my games in one shot at a flea market/yard sale, I'd rather make real money for them by trying to sell them individually or at least by flipping them to a store.
While I may not have noticed the lazy and unimaginative thing earlier, I did now and while it may not have been right, it may have been to tell you to sell the games on here or wherever else you can make more than you'd make at some yard sale for them.
Lighten up though, since the games are still yours to do with as you please, but if you have a spare minute or twenty, list them on a trade list on here with conditions(disc only, scratched, mint, etc) and see what kind of offers you get. I think you'll get way more than $20 for them.

Hello guys. I went to Gamestop today and bought myself an Xbox 360 for $35!! I went there with my PS2, 2 memory cards, two controllers (one being a Sony dual shock), and a bunch of games. Surprisingly, many of my games were over two dollars. It did take awhile for everything to work out since I was the first one to do this offer around my city. Oh yeah, and I lost my wallet that had $150 dollars which pretty much canceled out the deal for me. But here are the games I sold w/o the edge card 10% discount.
Ratchet and Clank $2.50
Ratchet and Clank 2 $4.00
Final Fantasy X-2 $3.30
Sonic Heroes $2.75
Spider-Man 2 $5.25
Tony Hawk Pro 3 or 4? $1.00
Stuntman $1.00
Gadget Racers $1.00
Metal Gear 2 $1.00
NBA Street 2 $1.00
NFL Street $.50
Jak II $1.50
Rayman 2 $1.00
Def Jam Vendetta $2.00
Rayman Arena $.75
Wipeout Fusion $.50
Street Fighter EX $3.00
Gran Tourismo 3 $1.00
Zone of the Enders 2 $7.00
Crash Bandicoot Warped(Super OLD Blue Disc) $3.00
NBA street $.50
Xenosaga: Episode ? $2.00
Enter the Matrix: $.75
Kingdom Hearts $4.00
Final Fantasy X $5.00
Kya $1.00
Ratchet and Clank 3 $5.00
GTA San Andreas $7.00
Extra Mem Card $4.00
Crazy Taxi(OLD): $2.50
Mystic Heroes $.55
Tony Hawks Pro ? $1.65
As you noticed most of the games are really old, but were still worth more than $2. They also bumped up the value for the required items ie PS2 and controller and games.
I'm also a senior member(since 2005) and while I get snippy at times, I know that instead of selling all of my games in one shot at a flea market/yard sale, I'd rather make real money for them by trying to sell them individually or at least by flipping them to a store.

So the PSP-3000 releases on October 14th, and this deal expires on the 12th.
When we trade it in, do we have to buy the new system right then and there or can we just take some kind of credit that can only be used on systems?
If not, could I just buy the PSP-2000 on the 12th, not open it, and exchange it on the 14th for the PSP-3000?

well people are starting to PM me for games so I just counted them I have over 110 ps2 games. I guess some of them are good ones people want. I used to buy them from BBV years ago when they have b1g1 and half off sales. I guess I will make a list and figure out where to post it. I can't even figure out how to get into my PMs anymore since this fourm changed. I only usualy check here for Gamefly sales on PS3 games and Kmart clearance thread because I know a Kmart around that always has everything. Whoever sent me the pma asking for Jak 2 and 3 yes I have them I will pm you back soon
EDIT: I have a bunch of the books for older games too if they are worth anything
EDIT AGAIN: This is too much BS I don't have time to sell $110+ games and buy enevlopes and postage. I just want to dump the whole box. If there is something you want ask me now. I don't have to play games fighting over postage and tryin to lowball and I only do paypal amazon GC. I know this OT in this thread so I will end it now. PM me if you have a list of wants or something. I m just going to try and sell the whole box somewhere I probally won't make an thread to sell them. If you want reference go look at my prefect feedback at High Def Digest in the HD DVD and Blu-ray forums.

I'm almost tempted to do this thing, but I still play my PS2 quite a bit. Actually, I'd be tempted to pick up the new Lego Batman bundle, since my current PS2 is an old fat model. My reasoning is that I'd kinda like to have a newer PS2 just on the off chance this one is getting near the end of its life. Does that make any sense to anyone or am I just being a compulsive spender? Also, I'd have to hunt down a second party controller, since I wouldn't want to be left with just one, but I think someone said they picked one up at the Salvation Army for cheap, so that might work out.

I would assume piracy. But I'd also assume someone smart enough to pirate games would be smart enough to find a better deal than at the local GameStop.
For some, yes, probably even many. For me I don't use it for piracy, I installed all my purchased (discs on the shelf) games onto the hard drive. Much faster load times and no fiddling with discs (and no risk of scratching discs) - select the game you want to play from a menu. It's great. In fact I "downgraded" from a slim and couldn't be happier.

It's a bit harder to find in complete, good condition and even harder to find in B&M. This makes it sell for around $20-$30 used on eBay, not including the shipping cost for the buyer.
Really, if you've got PS2 games to burn you oughta bundle them up and sell them as packages on eBay or on here. Trading into Gamestop is really only a good deal if you're flipping or if there's a promotion for bonus credit. Trading games in at regular TIV is just a waste for future reference. Hell, just waiting for another 30% extra credit offer to come up in Gamestop would save you money. Just something to keep in mind when you build up another collection you want to get rid of.

At the very least, you could have thrown up an ad on CL and see if someone would be willing to overpay for the lot of games. But you're happy, so that's all that matters. I don't understand why so many people get up in arms when others decide to buy or sell items for prices they don't agree with.

Just traded in a PS2 w/ 1 original dual shock, plus a non-dual shock air flow controller (picked it up at another gamestop for $7 and change).
They took the non-dual shock bundled with the PS2, and then used the original dual shock as the other controller necessary for the deal.
Some trade in values:
Lego Star Wars - $5
Scarface: The world is yours - $4
Lord of the Rings: The Third Age - $2
Medal of Honor European Assault - $4
Traded these in separately as a pair w/ the Cellfire coupon + Edge to get a 40% trade in value boost to defray the cost of the Pokemon DS I bought.
God of War II - $7 (10.01 w/ bonus)
Final Fantasy XII - $6 (8.58 w/ bonus)
Also, forgot the exact trade in values for these because I didn't use them toward the promotion, but they qualified for the trade in promotion.
Dragon Quest VII (disc only)
Shadow of the Colossus
GTA San Andreas (actually wouldn't even take this because it's the banned version, didn't realize it)

They have the LEGO Batman bundle in for $150. I'm sure you could sell the game for around $50 if you wanted to try to break even
The newer slim models that are not batman bundles are also showing up in stores...I saw some at best buy a few days ago

My fat PS2 keeps getting the DRE... It just happens...
Anyone have tips to fix it, even for a short time, enough to pass GameStop's test?
Looking to put $100 credit for a PS3...
You have to open it up, clean the laser with a q-tip with rubbing alcohol(since it evaporates quickly and leaves no strong smell afterwards) and then close it back up.
However, opening it up means you're breaking the warranty seal(sticker that's positioned vertically on the one end of the PS2's case on the back by the power switch), which means if they notice it's missing they won't take it for trade.
You're going to need the following to open it up:
*normal sized Philips head screwdriver
*eyeglass sized Philips head screwdriver
*LOTS of patience
I'd also suggest to mark down which holes the screws came out of, since on the fat models there were really LONG screws on the left hand side(with the disc tray facing you) and really short screws on the other end.
Under the rubber 'feet' on the bottom of the system AND under the little plastic tabs(they're flush with the rest of the PS2's case, so you need a flat screwdriver to pry them up enough to get them off), that's where the screws are.
Depending on the model #, there's 10 or more screws you're going to need to remove to get at the laser.
Once you have everything open though, all you need to do is dampen a q-tip with rubbing alcohol and firmly but gently clean the laser. But BE CAREFUL, since there's a thin plastic/paper ribbon which connects the reset/eject buttons to the PS2 which is attached to the lid/top part of the case where the reset/eject buttons are housed.
If you're patient, you can use the flat screwdriver to pop the button assembly from the top part of the case, but if not just put something to the right of the PS2 to prop the top of the case against, since even the slightest tug will cause this cable/ribbon to pull out from the PS2. It's not impossible to get back into the spot it popped out from, but it's VERY frustrating to have to do so.
If you have a 50001 model though, forget that completely, since the eject/reset buttons are actually part of the PS2 now and not seperate.
BTW, if you very gently and slowly peel off the warranty seal sticker and stick it on a bare spot on a sheet FROM stickers, you can do it without having the seal end up reading 'VOID VOID VOID' all across it. Just restick it when you're done and you should be able to trade it in with no problems.

You don't want to be firm about it at all. very lightly in one swipe do it. You don't want to put any pressure at all on it. It is precisly aligned. Type "clean PS2 laser" or "fix ps2 disc read error" in google. There are many pages that show you how with pics. Here is one for a fat. http://www.thepriors.idps.co.uk/clean_ps2_laser/clean_ps2_laser.html

I know I have more somewhere I just have to find them
That's a pretty good list, since as you said you have only a few sports games in the entire lot. I could definitely see many of those going for a bit on here. Here's the right place to put that list though: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=76
Put them up in a trade list there and either take offers or set a flat rate per game. I know the Action Replay should sell for a bit, as should Dark Cloud 2, even though they're not complete. As long as they're not all scratched to hell, they should sell.
Hope this helps....

You're quite welcome. I hope you make a bunch more than the initial $20 you said you might get for the whole boxload, since from the looks of it you have many titles people would probably pick up for $5-6 shipped each.
What kind of accessories do you have? I'm just wondering, since if it's a bunch of extra controllers and what not, you could probably get about $5 each for them(as long as they're not Mad Catz, which everybody on here hates since they're 'bleh third party').
Personally though, I've used mainly third party stuff for many years, although the memory cards ended up being total garbage and I had to get an official one for $30 when I got my first PS2.

I have everything but the games to trade in. Right now Gamestop has 20% off used games, and seperately B2G1 on them. I also have goozex points to spare.
What are some good games to target that have a trade-in value of > $2 for this deal, but are fairly inexpensive to pick up?

bah, someone around me is selling their ps2, 2 controllers (dont' know if they are DS2 or 3rd party), car adpater, 6games (don't know the games) for $50.
I don't own anything sony, but would like to pick up a DS for cheap, as a spare/multiplayer system.
spending $50, and getting $100 to use on a used DS could get me cash left over right?
think this is a good deal?

The catch is finding four games that work toward the deal. You can easily get cheap PS2 games on Craig's List, maybe even at stores' clearance shelves. But if you can't trade them in, you're stuck with them.
Man...does anyone have a list of the absolute cheapest games this will work with?
I have a fat PS2 with the hookups and the controller, will track down a memory card, but the 4 games is what is killing me.
And you're not necessarily stuck with the games you attempt to use, all you have to do is buy 4 used games from Gamestop, if they don't work, then just return them.

LOL, sorry n8Rockerusa, I was only done with the first page when I wrote that...thanks for the updated list...
Man I'm really torn, whether I should jump through the hoops of hooking all this up or not. I have an old phat PS2 that's works great, as well as an extra slim that I use at my business that I picked up for $10 complete at a yard sale.
I'd like to get rid of the fat PS2, even though the "alternative uses" for it are intruguing/tempting, but I'd have to get an extra 3rd party controller (as cheap as possible obivously), the memory card (3rd party again as cheap as possible), and 4 games that qualify, since there's no way I'm parting with the vast majority of my collection. Not sure it's worth the hassle of digging the old PS2 out of storage and tracking down the other bits to this deal.
Decisions, decisions...
I think you'll get $50 ($30+20 bonus) just for trading a PS2 in the system with no games/memory and only one controller...if one has all the pieces AND is planning to buy a system, then the $100 is an OK deal....if you just want to dump a ragged out ps2, then $50 is not a terrible offer, given that new PS2s will likely be around $100 this christmas

Might I suggest just scrolling down on the same page you posted on, three posts from yours, since N8rockerasu posted a list of games you can get cheap.
However, you may have to run to Blockbuster to try and find some of those. Like, for example, Iridium Runners and Golden Compass, which get $5 and $4 respectively. Then, you just need to find two more from that list.
An easier way to find games right IN Gamestop to flip right back for the promo is search for almost any movie or cartoon game, as long as they're not too old you should have no problems finding two more games.
As for the memory card, if I knew I could get a stack of them cheap enough, I'd probably go clean out the local shop of their Nyko yellow ones and sell them to the people wanting to do this deal for like $10 shipped(which would barely cover the cost + tax + shipping).

I just got back from trading a PS2. At first I was told that you have to trade two DualShock controllers, but if anyone tells you this just point out that the fine print on their own sign says that one controller can be third party. Anyway, it turned out that one of the games I had traded for less than $2, so I asked if I could just buy a game there and trade it right back to them, and the guy at the register seemed surprised that I would think of such a thing. But he was able to find the cheapest game they had that traded for $2 and then just used the computer to charge me and give me credit for it without needing the game itself.
The game that wasn't worth enough was Jumper, which someone here said was going for $2 but has apparently been marked down to $1.50. The other games were:
American Chopper 2: $2.00
Def Jam Vendetta: $2.00
Lord of the Rings: The Third Age: $2.00
Spider-Man 2: $2.50

Ace Combat 4 $2.50
Fifa World Cup 2006 $3.00
X-men Legends $2.00
Spider-Man 2 $2.50
Traded in a bunch of other crap games plus took advantage of the trade-in 3 xbox or wii games and get $15 bonus.

Also, Iridium Runners gets $2.75 now, as confirmed by the BB/GR thread. Nikadimas, this is the exact reason I said I didn't want to deal in "should". Sorry to be such a nerd about it, but I just hate giving people bad info.

Hey peoples,
found a ps2 and some random ps2 games off of Craigslist for 15$; traded it in w/ a memory card and 2 dualshocks + the aforementioned random games for 100$ store credit towards new psp-3000(only problem is gamestop carries it in bundles....kind of wanted the non-bundled version; the bundle is the new ratchet and clank bundle coming out in mid october; silver); In addition got 6.15$ in change on a gamestop card. All in all not a bad weekend. Manager of the store also said that you can trade in any number of systems towards the purchase of any new gaming console. Credit only applies to consoles...not games, which is a damn shame. Also....none of my games had any cases or manuals. Still traded for full value. Booyakasha bitches. thanks sooo much to everyone on this forum. I have saved soooo much in the past year on games....it's been ridiculous. So lesson in all of this....search craigslist....people are retarded. I'm out.

no coupon needed. Also, they didn't even check if the system worked. Make sure to call ahead to see if the employees on staff no about the offer. it applies to any new system...like the wii, xbox 360, ps3, ds lite, psp.

talked to the manager, said that you can trade in two ps2 towards purchase of new system. Maybe YMMV. Not sure if in every store....call ahead.

Went and did this today. Had to go to two GameStops though. First one I walked into and saw the employees and thought they were all douches from the start. So I wait in line and give them my stuff. They start setting it all over the place, and ringing it up. They go to test the PS2 and say it doesn't work, which it does, it just takes a few seconds for the games to load up. Then just as we are about to finish they spot that the PS2 has been opened. Seeing as my PS2 was from like first two months of when the system came out, I had to go in there and clean it once or twice after all these years. So he says he won't take it, so I say just give me all my stuff back. So he puts the stuff back in the bag, but I have to point out what he left behind cause they set everything everywhere. Which is fine as they were goign to charge me fees to clean one of my games that I bought from them (which is why it was scratched) and cause my PS2 didn't work.
So I go to store 2, get a good guy. The employees here were more down to earth and real, not overly nerdy elitists like the other place. He rings up everything no problem. Tests out the ps2, waits the extra 2 seconds for the game to load. He kind of looks at the broken warranty seal which means the system was open, and just moves on. Doesn't charge me to clean any of my discs or anything like that. He was very helpful.
These are games I sold to them, incase anyone is wondering.
God of War $3.00
Spawn Armageddon 1.50
GH2 6.00
GH2 80s 8.00
XMEN Legend 2 3.00
Tony Hawk Underground 1.50
Driver 3 3.00
Activision Anthology 1.00
WWE Smackdown vs Raw (think Here Comes the Pain) 2.00
God of War 2 7.00

The EB Games at Somerset Collection in Troy, MI would not take my PS2 because they wanted two DualShock2 controllers. I have one DualShock2 and a thrid party. When I had called earlier, the clerk told me DualShock2 and extra controller, not two DualShock2s.
After nearly losing the memory card I handed them, they are finishing the trade-in for a DS Lite and then the clerk looks at the big poster advertising this deal which does indeed state, "extra Dualshock2 controller" and also has two Dualshock2 controllers pictured. They apologized to me and said that they could not do the deal without another Dualshock2.
I am going to call around to other Gamestops tomorrow to see if one will do it without the extra Dualshock2. Otherwise, I am going to look for a cheap Dualshock2. Anyway, here are five games that were worth $2 or more today:
Guilty Gear X
DDRMAX2
Raiden III
Final Fantasy X
Hot Shots Golf Fore

Do you have to trade in 2 controllers or just 1?
This isn't a hard rule of thumb, but if you check gamestop's website and the PS2 game sells for less than 7.99, the odds are that it will get you less than $2 for it in trade....there may be a few games where this doesn't apply, but it seem most of them fit this pattern.

I am thinking about going today but I have some questions.
I've never traded in at Gamestop before... do I just bring everything to the cashier?
And do I need to trade in 2 controllers or just 1?
Also, will I automatically get this deal if I try and buy another system as I trade in, or will I have to mention it?
Thanks

You have to have two controllers like the first post on the first page of this thread states. One of them needs to be a Dualshock 2 controller. I would mention that is what you are wanting to do because some people have mentioned in this thread that the computer didn't do it automatically.

Yeah, it wasn't automatic when I got in on a similar upgrade deal last January. The cashier had to manually override the transaction.

Well, I would assume that "NEW" means new, but nothing's stopping you from picking up a phone and calling to find out :)
Also, the promo runs through 10/12...as stated in the thread title.

Extra Memory Card: $4I saw your post but out of about 1,000 total games in the PS2 library that isn't many. I still own about 12 PS2 games and the only two I have that are worth more than $2 are Okami and Katamari Damaci so yes I really don't think there are that many.

Just got back from gamestop and got this deal. It's pretty nice because I was planning on selling it all on ebay, but since it is a fat ps2, I didn't expect to get that much. It would of also been a ton of work. Did this deal and got a DS and now I will just sell the DS, with little work needed.

I guess I can see your point, but out of those 1,000 games, how many would you even pay $2 for? I think I speak for many when I say this list is much more substantial than I would have guessed. Who would have though Spider-Man 2 would still be worth $2.75? Or Crazy Taxi worth $2.50? There are a lot of reasons to knock GS, but I'm not going to knock them for this.

Do you have Alzheimer's or do you just like asking the same fuckin' questions until someone answers them? Seriously, there's no reason to re-post the same question 2-4 times, as long as you take the time to READ the promotional ad. Most of the relevant info for the deal was there and/or in the first post.
The box thing though, is common sense, since when have you ever seen a PS2 in a non Gamestop box aside from new ones?
I'm still debating if I'm going to do this deal myself though, but the only PS2 I currently have is a brand new in box slim and I'll be damned if GS gets something from me that isn't on it's way out.

I needed the answer within an hour. I was afraid that my question was lost at the end the the prior page because someone asked a question after me and got theirs answered by mine wasn't.
Also, the person that asked the question after me got it answered by jp0231, without ever answering mine. Once I posted a second time, jp0231 answered it. So he knew the answer the whole time, he just didn't see my post since it was at the bottom of page 11 and people were already posting on page 12.
And why say I asked it 2-4 times? I asked it too times, that's it. You had no reason thinking I asked it more than twice. And if you are going to make up numbers, why stop at 4? Maybe I asked it 2-3000 times.
Lastly, I have never been to Gamestop before, so it was not at all common sense to me.

From the first fuckin' post(can't you read?):
PS2 upgrade offer - $100 w/ controller, memory card and 4 games
Trade in your PS2, memory card, Sony(1st party) dual shock controller and 4 games and recive $100 toward any new system.
Expires: 10/12/08. Offer not good on cash trades. Games with a trade value of less than $2.00 are excluded from offer. Trades must be in full working condition to receive full value. Hardware must have all necessary components for trade. Cannot be combined with any other offer. PS3 hardware subject to availability by location. Trade-ins subject to manager approval. See store associate for details. No dealers.
There's this great invention called a PHONE they came out with. You could've just used that, instead of repeating yourself on a couple of questions. Mind you, the drones at Gamestop are programmed to tell people to just come in with their stuff without giving specifics, so you would've been back here anyway.
I just felt that it was lazy on your part to not try calling Gamestop before repeating the question on here. That's all this site seems to get anymore though, is lazy fuckin' newbies that won't do even 5% of the legwork and want all of the benefits.

In my area, there's a Wal*Mart for about every 10-20 miles, give or take. The closest one to me is located right across from our Target, which also has a Gamestop in the same shopping plaza. Within 1-2 miles of that Gamestop are two others.
I mean, really, I thought Gamestops were like cockroaches. Once you have one, you're bound to have others show up.

Hey cheapyp just ignore the clowns that think they elitist for scronging pennnies to get games for outdated systems for years now. Some of us have to take breaks in our gaming throughout life. I was programing apple IIcs in the 80s. I had the original pong on a black and white TV as a child. I had a ColecoVision ADAM computer as well as the obvoius atari 2600 NES etc... Whenever I hear them call someone a noob I laugh. If they spent a little more time on a real life rather than playin Video Game Fourm Elitist maybe they wouldn't have to be the absolute cheapest person on the planet.
