Is it just me or are these guys really pushy on trying to get you to preorder? i'm sure it's like this at all stores but I just had a case of it today. I went in to gamestop to get pikmin 2 today and after I'm done paying the employee says " And which game will you be preordering today? I suggest Metroid Prime 2" I say " Nah I don't think I want to preorder anything today but thanks" To which the guy says" You have to preorder donkey konga, there are a very limited number that will even come with drums, most stores are selling the drums by themselves for 50" Now I knew this was a lie but I just said " Nah I think I'll probly buy it at Gamecrazy { because I have the MVP card there} To which he says " no, MVP card is only for used games" Then a guy pops out of the back and says yeah Gamecrazy sucks. So I finally give in and give him the 5 bucks just so I can get out of the store. Is it just me or are they REALLY pushy in trying to get you to preorder games?

Only time I have ever been talked to about a pre-order is when I asked to pre-order it.

That sucks. You should probably take them to court for making you do something you didn't want to do. It's the American way.

Walk in with a pair of head phones on. You don'thave to be listening to any music but at least theres a reason to ignore them.

some Gamestops AND Ebgames upper management are cracking down on reassuring presells so they'll set quotas that the employees have to make..OR they'll be written up..

well, his sales pitch worked, you preordered something didn't you? Now he'll continue to be pushy because it obviously works. I feel bad for the gamestore employees, they have to meet a certain quota of preorders per store and that's all upper management pushes on them, that and strategy guids it seems.

You know what is just absurd ???? having to nag people to buy a MADDEN hint book.... How in god's name do you push something like this!

seriously.. is it so hard for people to say "no thanks"? i know how pushy they can be, but i just keep saying no, and they stop. it's like how some people are too scared to hang up on a telemarketer.

if it makes you feel better, most people say no anyway.

i went to staples once, one store over from a gamestop. there where was an andvertising, small company promo deal going on, 50 something tables set up in the whole store, i took out my cell phone and started saying yeah, well, sure, but i found blah blah. randomally throughout the 10 min being there

I dont mind being asked once, because I do like to preorder, but if they are being obnoxious and hounding me... forget it

You shouldn't have paid the 5 bucks...

Agreed. They could say it to me 100 times and I still would say no. In fact, I would say no and walk out. They can't force you to pre-order. In fact, the only game I've ever pre-ordered is Gradius V, and I did that online because it comes with a free DVD.

Next time just tell them:

"I'm sorry, but I have this rule. I only preorder from people I sleep with.".

As an ex-manager, I can verify that it is true that...

a) Upper management requires a cetain number of pre-sells and subscriptions to Game Informer or else your ass is toast.

b) That duty then gets passed down to the sales people. Get the numbers, or disciplinary action. Shit rolls downhill.

c) I hate the fucking hard sell, so I quit.

For gawds sake, we sell video games! Not used cars! Let us have some fun!

Oh, and for a while, they were on an "MST" kick. That meant Multiple Sales Transaction. This is why the hard sell on strategy guides too.

I used to love working at the place, until marketing pinheads took over.

If you really want to piss them off, just tell them you already preordered it at another one of their stores, or worse.. tell them you preordered it at an EB.. Trust me it drives me up the wall when people tell me that lol. I never get mad at them or in general, just kinda frustrated urghhh

Way to be a pussy and give into their pushy sales pitch. Now they'll have more incentive to harass the next customer.

Did I mention you can shut the fuck up? This topic was about how the employee's are pushy, not if i was a pussy about it.

Weird. The employees at my gamestop aren't like that... they might ask if I want to pre-order anything, but a single "no thanks" or whatever from me and it's not discussed again.

Some Gamestops (and Eb games) are pushy. Others are not. Usually I dont shop at those places anyways.

yea i just recently quit because of the stress it caused in the store because the companie sets quotas on people u have some guys going crazy and even cut throating other employees to get reserves and subs.they make it seem like we get paid commision for it but we dont the only incentive we get is that we are allowed to keep our stressfull job for alittle longer till they put someother stupid thing for us to do.
all i can say is i worked for them for 4 yrs the first 2 yrs were the best of my whole time there it was a fun atmosphere got along with everyone and didnt have to bust my ass to get stupid reserves and subs.

I will only pre-order if they have something cool to give me. What happened to their call list? I remember back when I used to work at Babbage's AKA Gamestop we had a list people signed and then we used that as a 1/2 a count for a game to order. The bad thing is even stuff for younger people is ruled by those bad old 80's biz guys from the movies, only looking to make a buck no matter what. Well untill Cheapassgamer can make it's own Cheapass city we are SOL/

The guy at the gamestop I go to is at least entertaining with his pitch... He seemed to only ask once.

I actually drive an extra few miles to go to the more courteous location... I miss the old mom & pop video game stores.

You shouldn't have paid the 5 bucks...

Not only that, you should have immediately returned Pikmin 2 and bought it somewhere else. You don't have to take no shit offa nobody.
