Since there's a lot of talk in the Wii Shop Channel thread, it's best to start a thread just for this game. I have a feeling we will be playing this for a while..and it's best to keep the Wii Shop Channel Thread for current discussion and complaints of that week's games.

--

I am really loving this game. My ass is getting handed to me and I'm liking it. (Duh). Personally, I think it's really cool how they finally added a female robot to the game..oh, and they even went the extra mile to add a GAY ROBOT! :applause:

Thank You, Capcom!

A pink robot that throws diamonds makes him gay? Not that there's anything wrong with that...

I've beat all the robot bosses, but haven't played any of the last level yet. I need to stock up on a few more lives and energy capsules before I continue. I am enjoying Jewel Man's ability on a couple of levels, since semi-invulnerability = good.

I can't even beat that fucknut Galaxy Man. I finish his level pretty easily, (once I got to GM with full health and all of my lives) but then the boss fight starts and I fail at what's supposed to be the easiest level.

What can you buy in the shop that lasts (not a one use per item)?

I forget what its called, but the item that transfers extra energy to the lowest powered weapon. Definitely worth buying as soon as you have enough screws.

Jewel Man's tactics? Run at you until he touches you. It's the perfect complement to his appearance. Also, his midboss is a pain in the ass.

I got to the last boss, but died. Hoping to finish it tonight.

Oh yeah, Galaxy Man's weapon is the most satisfying weapon in the game. You can suck up any enemy into it.

I've beaten both Splash Woman and Galaxy Man thus far. I must have used at least 20 continues so far. But it's nice to play through a Megaman game where I don't know the order. Takes me back to when I played Megaman 3 and tried fighting Needle Man first. Yeah, that doesn't work so well...

I hope - at some point - Capcom gives me a way to get that awesome coverart. A shirt, a poster, whatever.

The other day GoNintendo reported that there is a small, small chance they might allow people to send in old NES carts to get some of the press goodies. I think they hollow them out and put something in them, and also slap on an oldskool NES sticker.

That's all I've ever wanted.

So, I'm at Wily's Castle 1, and how the hell do I get past the part with the 3 fire beams coming out of the wall. This feels like Quick Man's stage. It doesn't look like there's a break at all.

If they do, I hope I still have the Wizards & Warriors cart my friend left at my house 20 years ago. I'd send that in right quick.

You can either be very cautious, and proceed slowly.

Or be cheap (and lazy) like me and use Jewel Man's ability.

They are easy to avoid, all you do is run like you nromally would, watch for them to drop and then move back the other way rather than trying to "run past them". And you know which parts of the stage have them since they give you an early warning by placing one where it can't hurt you.

Not really, it only shows the top ten if I recall correctly. I'm sure the 360 version will allow you to view leaderboards among friends and all, but yeah the 360's d-pad blows and the achievements look impossible so the Wii version is the best route in my opinion.

Ugh! I've had to replay the Wily Skull Stage about a MILLION times! I'm talking about the first of what I'm assuming is two Wily 'Final Stages.' I get through the robot masters easily enough, actually getting 6 of the 8 quick draw challenges in the repeated process. But once I get to Wily himself, I either a) take too much damage from the Army Easter Eggs to actually survive anything beyond ten more seconds or b) completely lose focus during part two, when my jumping has to be spot on for those flames! I've never even fought against part three long enough to memorize any sort of pattern. Meaning: I have a lot more deaths in store for me.

I'm thinking I'm going to just stock up on E-Tanks and take Wily out that way. The turd!

All said, though, this game is great fun! I anticipate a lot of replay. :D

Also, I know it's a staple of Megaman games, but I really wish you could save progress after each Wily stage.

zitanix
09-25-2008, 12:25 AM
Yeah, even if you just go to the shop without resetting, you have to play all the final stages again. That was a disappointing discovery. :(

This game is (mostly enjoyably) hard, though I still profanitize like crazy. Most of the parts that look really hard/kill you a lot are easy once you learn the trick, so hang in there those of u still on the master robots.

In the meantime, wily stages are evil, I'll have to try again when I have the time,

btw Those "acheviements" are evil and some pretty imppossible

Beefy post (http://www.8bithacks.com/2008/09/why-mega-man-9.html) on why I think MM9 is important, not to get all plugtastic, so delete if I'm violating rules:

I'm not going to lie, I'm an old school (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old) Nintendo guy dating all the way back to the launch of the NES, like many in my generation. As children of the 80s, we grew up on the 8-bit goodness that dominated the day and a lot of us still think that some of the games from those archaic ages are among the best games ever created, even when held up against their technologically towering successors. So, like anyone does as they get older in an era of rapidly growing technology, we're forced to ask ourselves why we continue to hold onto the past. Is it out of nostalgia and the longing for days gone by? Is it because old dogs can't learn new tricks and we quickly retreat back into that comfort zone? I don't think so, and it's good that Mega Man 9 came around, because it represents a validation of all the things people of my generation have known for 20 years, whether or not we knew that we knew them.

When any game mechanic is iterated on in a series of sequels, there's a natural temptation to add more complexity to what's already there. Especially in cases where the same creator is responsible for both the initial installment and subsequent installments, it's easy to see why he might put that brainpower (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budget) toward doing more than they were able to do the last time. In many cases, this has resulted in game concepts and designs being refined and perfected (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Metroid). In addition, rapidly evolving technology only exacerbated the drive to add more complexity, as every time a new frontier (http://www.blastprocessing.net/) was opened to developers and games started taking advantage of the new technology, any creator working on an existing franchise was naturally pressured to make sure the next installment could run with its contemporaries. The "new, bigger, better" mentality has been a fact of life in the video game world for so long that most of us have become numb to it.

-continued for way too long-As of now this is one of my 3 GOTY contenders.

yukine
09-25-2008, 06:25 PM
Yeah, it's a fun game and a neat idea. But I think saying it's GOTY is overrating it in my opinion.

I'd say it's more of a WOTY, "Wiiware of the Year".

I finally got around to downloading this today. I managed to take out Galaxy Man without too much trouble. On the other hand, I've made it to Concrete Man and Splash Woman, and both of them destroyed me while I barely got in any damage at all. I guess I forgot how important it is to go in with the right weapon for the boss.

He was the easiest of the 3 I have taken down so far (Galaxy, Concrete, Splash), but I lucked out in having a good weapon to take him out with.

I thought Splash was pretty easy and Concrete was a bitch at first until I slowed down and watched what he was actually doing.

I haven't even been able to make it to the end of any of the other stages yet. Awesome game so far.

Buying this tomorrow when i get some money...

I downloaded the demo on my ps3 and was very impressed :applause: But i'm going to get the wiiware version cause i don't like how the ps controller but it feels slightly awkward....

The level of achievements is amazing... The Mr.Perfect one has got to be one of the harder ones and easiest if you use jewel man's power... I wonder if it requires you not to use the bosses powers to get this one.

How many achievements have you CAGs unlocked in the game??

Also being a cheap ass gamer you can also get proto man by getting all of the achievements thus saving you two bucks :D(So i've heard)

I think I have 2 achievements and they are based on killing a set number of enemies - not a very hard achievement to get.

Some of the achievements are just plain crazy and there is no way I am going to be getting more than a handful of them.

Why can't Megaman have a flying dinoship of doom? Rush can't transform into a damn Rushtron by now? Lame.

Bet this fucker about 30 mins ago. The stages got easy once I knew what to do with each one. Wiley's stages were a bitch though. Spend 2 and a half hours straight going through them alone.

JEKKI
09-29-2008, 12:20 AM
OK I finally started this game today and so far Ive beaten 3 stages.

I was very cautious going into the game, thinking like "oh it's just gonna be an average / above average megaman whatever..."

dood I was so wrong... in just 3 stages I feel like I've played perfection.

The level design is SO GOOD!! I'm surprised they were able to pull off stages as good as this!!

Everything from the platform locations, the placement of spikes and pits, and the distribution of enemies and their attack patters, everything in the game is so perfectly placed and where it should be!!

It's CHALLENGING! That's the key word! The game is not hard, but you do die due to the challenge...

I died 3 times and got a game over in Galaxy Man's stage... I hit continue and went back at it, I ended up beating the stage without getting hit as well as getting another "achievement" thing for getting thru the whole stage without stopping (I got hit on the boss tho...).

My only complaint about the game is some of the challenges are downright silly... Beat Every Boss in a single game with one pixel of life left, fine. Beat the game 30 times? I prolly havent even beaten MM2 30 times, hella dumb.

So you're not gonna see me get 100% on those, but I'm definitely gonna stab at that top 10 list.

Edit: Haha, right after posting this I made it past it and kicked lilboo man's ass.

Really? It only took me one try to get through there.

I've got three stages down now - Galaxy Man, Splash Woman, and Jewel Man - and discovered my first super-effective weapon combination, that Galaxy Man's Black Hole Bombs turn Jewel Man into scrap metal in about thirty seconds. I'm loving this game so far - it IS an NES Mega Man game, as far as I'm concerned. :D

yukine
09-30-2008, 02:49 AM
The stage itself was easy, just that part messed me up. Only took a few tries though, so no big deal.

Even got the challenge for not stopping in that level. 8-)

And a good stage to use Jewel Man's weapon/shield is at Plug Man's stage, it makes it even easier, and you can really farm for items with it. I ended up getting over 300+ screws and about 4 1ups from going through it a couple of times. 8-)

I'm still having a tough time with Tornado Man's stage, I can't get past the 3rd screen with the rotating platforms.

I_Am_ProZac
09-30-2008, 11:59 AM
I've played through the game a few times now and I'm enjoying it just as much as I did with 2 and 3. I'm slightly annoyed by the "you must have this power up to progress" (I always thought that was bad design), but it's not too frequent, and doesn't use up too much of your bar.

Beat the game without continuing last night, now I need to do without dying. Without getting hit has to be near impossible. I've 42% of the challenges and climbing.

Also, just wondering what everyone thinks is the best place to start for kill order, or the easiest boss. I've heard most people think Splash Woman and Galaxy man are the easiest, but I really prefer starting with Hornet man. I found his power useful, and he's really simple when you know the pattern. I just hate how he flies and you can't hit him. He's easy, but I consider it a slow fight. Still haven't got the Quick Draw on him.

And I am most displeased. I made a very stupid mistake in the 3rd stage of Wily's Castle and ruined my no death run.

I finally beat it... LOVED IT. LOVED ALL OF IT!

at first the ending was kinda cool but at the same time nothing special... I was like eh...

especially compared to the ending of MM2 or even the ending to the 1st MM on gameboy (I cant remember MM3 ending atm >_<). The MM2 ending is one of the most beautiful endings in gaming history, and the gameboy MM ending has one of the best MM songs that most ppl never heard.

but then as the credits were rolling... it was actually real cute and VERY well done.

This game definitely does the MM series justice, top 3 up with 2 & 3. The only bad parts are the 8 stages are rather short and the music isnt as good as it should be... it's cool but it isnt memorable.

other than that fantastic game, definitely look forward to playing it again and doing more challenges

I donno why but that boss is a bitch. He follows such a simple pattern and yet even knowing the pattern you need to adapt to it more with your reflexes as opposed to actually thinking, i.e. old shool skillz at their finest.

Seriously tho once you got it down... it feels SO GOOD to kill him without getting hit once

Yeah, I finally got the pattern down and annihilated him with Galaxy Man's weapon. You're right though, it becomes easier when you just react to what is coming at you instead of trying to think it through.

Like BlueLobstah, I was defeated by Wily's 3rd form the last time I attempted to take him out.

According to GoNintendo, beginning tomorrow at 3 PST, you will be able to purchase a MM9 Press Kit from their online store. (http://shop.capcom.com/store/capcomus/DisplayStoreHomePage)

tomorrow is the PUBLIC sale of the item

So I got the Endless Attack mode. I've got to say it's very cool. I've only gotten through 63 screens (died on the 2nd boss), while the Top Score is over 3000 screens.

There are some little nods to previous games with the areas too:
- Heat Man's block puzzle
- MM1 Wily Stage 1 opening
- MM2 Wily Stage 3
- Opening of Flash Man's stage

These are just the ones I've noticed. If you're a Mega Man fan, I'd say get it, because it is pretty cool.

JEKKI
10-14-2008, 02:10 PM
the problem with endless mode is u gotta be stuck on your TV for at least 6 hours to place top 10

-_-...

and that's only in regards to the last time I checked scores... u kno someone's gonna keep their shyt on all week eventually

KingBroly
10-14-2008, 02:22 PM
I'm guessing the 3000+ screen score took around 8 hours. There are a few spots where you can farm power-ups for a good while. And I only say that having gotten to a 2nd boss. I don't know where it goes from there.

Also, I plan on getting the Special Stage because I want to see who the boss of that level is. I'm guessing Bass or Proto Man.

The game took me 7 and a half hours to beat and the bosses were the toughest i've had the pleasure to face. Wily's castle was a pain, but i beat him with no E-Tanks or the 1/2 damage item, which was not intentional i just didnt have any when i got there and wasn't about to turn around i think for my next feat I'm going for a buster run!

I'm trying to go through it again. After 3 bosses, I'm 11 minutes in. So hopefully, if I can do it right, I can beat it under an hour. 90 minutes at least. Galaxy Man's stage took 4 minutes just because Galaxy Man sucks with the Mega Buster time wise. My goal for 8 bosses is 25 minutes. That might be too good for my skills, sadly.

Weakness' of what, exactly? The final boss? Check the spoiler.

Form 1: Mega Buster
Form 2: C. Shot, S. Trident
Form 3: P. Ball

Splash Woman - Mega Buster (Takes 14 Hits to beat), In Wily Stage 4, Hornet Chaser works great as well.
Concrete Man - Laser Trident
Galaxy Man - Concrete Shot
Jewel Man - Black Hole Bomb
Plug Man - Jewel Satellite
Tornado Man - Plug Ball
Magma Man - Tornado Blow (Will not completely kill, so you will need to hit him a couple of times to finish him off)
Hornet Man - Magma Bazooka

Hope this helps lilboo

I'm curious about the difficulty of this game. I managed to beat Mega Man and Bass for GBA and it was hard as hell but extremely satisfying. Heck, one of the final bosses' weak spots was located off the GBA screen due to cropping. The item system was insanely helpful in that game, though.

If you want to play a hard game, play Ghosts n Goblins...

it's a game without patterns, where every enemy movement and appearance is generated randomly, except for certain AI reactions that work incredibly against your favor.

Megaman is cake compared to that game. It's challenging but every time you die you can learn the reason for it and overcome the challenge appropriately
