See the sleekness at www.apple.com. What do you guys think of the design? Get this or a PowerBook? Deiscions, deiscions.

P.S. - I know perfectly well the Windows vs. Mac thing, lets not turn this into that. Just wanna know what you guys think of the design... I;m already sold on MAC OS X.

EDIT (addendum...?): Its a lot less "friendly" and I think that was the think I liked about the iMac. The one before it was kind like a cartoon character and this is more like a... well... like a big ass iPod. But i still think its sleek as hell.

EDIT2: Upon further relection, an even HARDER deicsion comes into view. I just looked at the edu price for a 12 inch ibook, and its only $999. I mean damn, I;ve never had a Mac before so those that have, is it better to start off with a lower speed system? That may sound like a stupid question at first but I mean should a person whose never used a computer before get a top of the lline Alienware PC, or the $300 Wal-Mart Compaq. HELP ME!!!

I think it looks rather ugly, i would much rather have a nice powerbook.

Agreed, get a Powerbook. The last generation iMac looked a lot better.

I think this is the sexiest machine ever.

You could possibly have no cords at all if you so desired.

Amazing what apple continues to do with design technology

That being said, I switched to a pc about a year ago, and I won't go back fulltime, ever.

I actually really like the design, but asking for this or a powerbook seems like a fairly straight forward question. That question of course being, where are you going to use the mac? Are you going to be away from a desk? Do you care that you're getting less power for more money (less bang for your buck when buying a notebook). Don't just look at the outside, think about the inside as well as where you're going to use it. I'd go for the iMac but that's just my opinion.

I am perfectly happy with my 13 kilogram Alienware.

It is 1 foot wide, 2.5 feet long, and 2.5 feet high.

It takes up a lot of desk space, but what it lacks in fashion is made up in power.

is the 12 inch ibook a g3 or a g4?

If it's a G4, then the decision is a tough one. The differences between a G4 and G5 arent big enough for someone like you who i am assuming would not be doing extensive photo and video editing, but the difference between the G3 and G5 is big enough of a differnece. The base for the new imac is 1300, right? so after educational discount thats gonna be about 1200 i assume. I'd take the imac because it takes up little space and is the more powerful machine.

I started out on a Mac and it really sucked because there were very few games.

If price is not that important (and if you are looking at Macs it isn't) than get an Alienware Area-51m laptop with EVERYTHING MAXED OUT. About $3,000 USD.

After seeing this earlier today and ruminating on it I've decided that I'm not completely sold on the new look. It's not bad, I just think the old one's looked cooler (with the screen you could swing all over).

I switched from Mac to PC last year, basically to play games. I believe that OSX is so much smoother than XP and there are some really sweet programs with the mac. Don't know if I'll go back, but it's nice not sweating viruses and the Mac design team is clearly much better.

As for powerbook vs. imac I say go with the desktop unless you really are gonna carry your comp around a lot. I thought I would, but my pc just stays plugged in on the table.

Too bad it's a piecer for $1300:

17-inch widescreen LCD
1.6GHz PowerPC G5
512K L2 cache
533MHz frontside bus
256MB DDR400 SDRAM
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra
64MB DDR video memory
80GB Serial ATA hard drive
Slot-load Combo Drive (CDRW/DVDROM)

I can build a PC better than that for $500 less.

But Macintosh architechture runs smoother. And it's not a question of price, it's a question of eloquence.

yeah, I looked at the best version they had, and with the best components it came together at about 2300 dollars. But, that being said, some people really care about the look. (I'm not one of those, heck, I bought an xbox, but I can appreciate that it looks good) That look is something I haven't ever seen on a pc.

I like the Mac's designs, but I'm a Windows guy. =/
