View Full Version : Forget the Wavebird, the Japanese GC controllers are where it's at!
I was looking into getting a couple Wavebirds so I could enjoy some of the Gamecube classics on my Wii. The prices aren't that big of a deal, but the idea of buying some used ones with questionable history didn't sound fun to me. Also the lack of rumble, while not that important to me, still seemed like a big minus.
I would have been satisfied with normal platinum controllers, except the cord is a ridiculously short six feet. It's eight feet to my couch.
I picked up two of the new white Gamecube controllers from Japan and they are great! They look good and have a ten foot cord. Highly recommended. I was surprised at how easy these were to obtain here. I can imagine there is a rather big demand.

I use the white GCN controller - the extra cord length is an awesome addition. Did you just get yours from Play-Asia, Zing?
Actually, I bought mine from an Ebay seller in Canada. The total cost ended up being about $1 less than Play-Asia. I may have just ordered from them had I realized that the price would be so close, especially since I also needed a memory card.

If the cord length is the major problem of regular controllers you can buy an extension cable for $2 at Gamestop ($1.33 each if used with this weekend's B2G1F).

Extension cables are a bit of nuisance, but they do work fine and used ones are cheap at Gamestop. What I don't like about the Wavebirds is that, at least on a Gamecube, sometimes you have to fiddle with them to get them to work. I'll set both controller and receiver to the same channel and yet it won't work. I plug and unplug the receiver, sometimes with the GC turned on, and eventually, perhaps after accidentally uttering the magic word, it starts working. If you never touch it again you are fine, but if you ever disconnect the receiver it often leads to this problem. Does anyone else see this with Wavebirds? Otherwise I like them and, and though I miss rumble a bit, I'd rather not have a cord.
