I got a "failure to wear seatbelt ticket" while I was pulling out of my neighborhood today even though I was reaching for it. Yes, I was guilty and I accept my consequences, but I'm looking for the cheap ass way to pay as little as possible. Here are the options the cop gave me.
1) Pay 135 dollar ticket
2) Deferred adjudication (don't know what this is)
3) Defensive driving.
I know the DD tapes cost 35 at blockbuster. Is there an additional fee to take the test?

Keeping it off your record is probably the cheapest in the long run.

$135 for not wearing a seatbelt? Holy crap. Around here it's only $15-20, but you don't have any other options.
If you're worried about your record, paying the fine (pleading guilty) and getting the DA will both stay on your record.
Buying the book is a lot cheaper than the ticket.

Just pay and move on. All the time and effort spend fighting it won't be worth saving $135 in the long run...

$135 is steep. I too, would just pay it and move on. It should be classified as the type of ticket that doesn't effect your insurance premium. I would call your insurance agent just to make sure though.

Fight it. Go to court and tell the judge you sat on your cell phone headset and was pulling it out, when you got pulled over. Worked 4 me. Hope the judge isn't a CAG.

I think it may be too late for that.

What state are you in, different states have different ways to go. If you can have it reduced to a parking, go for it.
As far as insurance, it also varies by state, in NY he's an example of how it would show up for a driver or even as a passenger, but no points given. Not my record btw.

Don't you have to pay the court fees to contest it in court?

If it does end up adding points to your record make sure you go to traffic school. It will save you a ton of money in the end towards insurance. I really don't think a seatbelt ticket would be considered a moving violation such as speeding or running a stop sign though. I did traffic school online, if your county allows that, do it. It cost about $25 on top of the ticket, but it only took me an hour. I just took the test with tons of browser windows opened and searched for all the answers. It was really easy.
By the way I just got a ticket for running a stoplight (one of those turning from yellow to red). It was one of those camera ones, had pictures of me entering and going through the intersection, and had pictures of me in the driver seat and my liscence plate. Total= $340, plus I can't go to traffic school again since I already did it for one ticket.

I would take a shot in the mouth if it saved me $135.

For the love of God. I prosecuted tickets in CT for a year. Points only matter IF you do something to change your insurance - such as add a car or driver.
This is a non-moving violation. Without looking at the DMV regs in Texas I would bet ANYONE on this board that there are no points associated with a seatbelt violation.
How much is $135 worth to you?
That is the question.
