HELL YES.
That was one of those PS1 games I always wanted to track down.
I was going to make a post asking why you didn't just buy it from Ebay, but then I searched for myself. Holy shit, since when does this game sell for $60+? I bought mine from Ebay for like $10 2 years ago.
So... why didn't you buy this game from Ebay 2 years ago? ;)

Hey. Why don't you SHUUUUUUUT UUUUUUUUP

I'm going to go buy some new owl traps like they have in Futurama, and then someday the Professor will tell me "Go clean those damn owl traps!" because YOU will be in them.

If the port/remake is good and does well , maybe they'll bring the second game over too.

Hmm 5 hearts compared to the original 3 hearts...
Maybe the game is a bit easier than the original?

That would be a feat , given that the original game wasn't very hard to begin with.
It could be like every Mario game where 10 minutes after playing you have several dozen 1ups.

Don't see the point of a Klonoa 2 Wiimake, especially since it can still be found fairly cheaply, and has held up well graphically.
Looking forward to the port of the first game, though (never played it).

I've never found Klonoa 2 anywhere , especially cheaply. Putting Klonoa 2 on the wii would allow the entire series to be on nintendo systems (1 and 2 on the wii , advance 1 and 2 for the gba , I'm not counting the volleyball game).
Klonoa is a fun game that's pretty for a PS1 game and has a nice soundtrack. Being short and easy are it's only faults , but they don't detriment the game any.

Really, Klonoa 2 doesn't need to be remade. It's still a great looking game. Considering that it is one of the best looking ps2 games, I doubt it would look that much better on the Wii. I'd much prefer them to put that effort into a new Klonoa 3, preferably on an HD system.
It's been way too long, and I've been way too patient.

Looks good. I only played the Klonoa GBA game, but I'm assuming it's nowhere near as fun as the PS1 version.

PS1 game has more personality , the GBA games have better puzzles though.

Try Half.com. Got my (used but complete) copy there earlier this year for around $15 shipped.

I'm so stoked for this, I love the Klonoa games. I even played the Volleyball one to death. I just hope they don't add unnecessary wii controls.

This remake is worth it.
Bump for this.
I got an email from Namco Bandai tonight about a Klonoa survey. It was asking about a Klonoa game for Wii.
The main focus of the survey was to decide upon the character design. I (stupidly) didn't grab the images. I'm sure they'll turn up.

Same here. I didn't really like the "new" design, but it could just be that I know what Klonoa is supposed to look like.

I voted down the "new" design as well. It wasn't as good as the older design. (And I think even that could use some work.)

New design vs. original.
The new design looks too much like Ratchet (of Ratchet and Clank).

There's the survey. Tell Namco NO.
"Thank you for your interest. At this time, the survey is closed."
Hopefully they got the point. I can't see how anyone could possibly prefer the new design.

Slightly old news, but gives me a good excuse to bump up the thread: looks like Klonoa's coming out in the US (http://blog.wired.com/games/2009/01/klonoa.html). I've heard it's due out sometime in the first quarter; is there anything concrete out there yet as far as a release date/month goes?

I never played the original of this but I have to say the Wii version won me over almost instantly. I couldn't read any of the instructions, but the gameplay is pretty straighforward and within a few minutes I was immediately taken back to the beautiful days of Pandemonium-era pseudo 3-D . Or 2.5-D. Whichever makes me sound more like a ponce.
The game looks great. I have no idea how much was redone for the Wii, but it glows with color and is smooth like nothing else. After a while the basic gameplay feels a little stale, but you're still driven to try to get to the next level just like in a standard 2-D platformer.
I like it. Can't wait for it in English.

It was a retail product in Japan, so don't see why that wouldn't be the case here.

It's a pretty big game - I don't think it would be the same game if it had to fit in a WiiWare-sized download.

Might be worth bumping this up to point out that GameStop lowered the price point to $29.99. Not sure if that will be the new MSRP, or just something GS is doing:

$29.99 @ Amazon too. This is a definite pre-order from me too.
It's just nice to be able to play it again without ponying up $75 to Random Internet Douchebag #79.
Wait, what? The original is worth $75?
Damn, it's always the games I want to keep that are worth crazy ducats.
Small discount to $28.99 on amazon as I type this--pleasantly surprised to see the price come down, but I hope this means the game is still going to be good. >_<

Purchased the game yesterday at Gamestop.
It's a blast. I really love it. I'll probably have the main mode beat by tomorrow, but it's so fun that it needs multiple runs just for the fun of it like Mario or something.
$30 well spent. Definitely pick this up.

If my local store has any copies of Klonoa when I go to pick up Donkey Kong Jungle Beat I'll be sure to pick it up. I've never played Klonoa before, but I've been hearing a lot of good things about it, and $30 is a great price point.

Just beat the story mode tonight and unlocked the character and movie viewers along with a new level and reverse mode.
I beat the new level (tower where you need to master combo-ing air jumps) in 10 minutes (second to last fire room gave me problems) and unlocked a sound test. Fun game. Will replay levels in reverse tomorrow. :)

I added my play time from the Wii menu, and I was just under five hours. I think having five hearts allowed me to go through it fast.
Regardless, this is a game like Super Mario World or Mega Man X where I'll love going through it again for the fun of it. It really is a great experience.

Unfortunately my local Target didn't have any copies of Klonoa. I guess I'll have to order it online.
Amazon's a little slow with my pre-order. It is still in "shipping soon" status. Hopefully they ship it out today or tomorrow, but either way I probably won't get it until later next week at best.

This game is listed for $24.99 in today's Sacramento Fry's ad (good thru Tuesday), so if you have one nearby it might be worth checking out. From the reviews I've been reading, I figured it was $25 well spent.

So I got it yesterday and got through 2-2. What does the green em on the stage select screen mean above a level? Does it mean I got every gem? Because I know in 2-2 I did not get every gem.
I never played a Klonoa game before, and I have to say it's pretty good. I definitely like the fact that they went out of their way to make it 60 fps.
Just got my copy from amazon today. Can't wait to play it tonight.

I got it from GameFly last week on Thursday, beat it and sent it back Friday. Took me 4 hours to beat from start to finish with about 60% of the collectibles done.
Graphics and music are great, story is forgettable, voice overs are annoying, platforming is fun (although some cheap enemies make me want to punch the screen), level design is brilliant at times and frustrating at others, and oh yeah, did I mention it only took me 4 hours to beat?
If you enjoyed Klonoa on PS1, you'll enjoy this. Not really worth $30 IMO...maybe $10...but thats just me.

Switching the language to Phantomile in the menu helps a little bit with the bearability of cutscenes.

05-17-2009, 05:13 AM
beat it, enjoyed it, but I have a hard time truly appreciating it...
the controls are hella unresponsive, more reasons for me to hate 3D gameplay. So as a result, the game has to be extremely easy to accommodate the fact that you control like ass.
if they could tighten up the controls and thus increase the difficulty in conjunction, I would give this game very high praises.
instead, having come into this game after playing Henry Hatsworth I can only view the overall game as inferior.
the game is still fun tho.

05-17-2009, 09:32 AM
what control setup did you use?
I've played with the horizontal wiimote and the controls seem responsive
pete5883
05-17-2009, 10:49 AM
I just finished it, and my only complaint about the controls is that up and down didn't register very well, but I think it's more the classic controller's fault than the game's.
I tried the first challenge level, all I can say is: :bomb:
JEKKI

what control setup did you use?
I've played with the horizontal wiimote and the controls seem responsiveI used the SNES style classic pad, the one that came out in japan.
I'm not sure if that controller would lag much coz I played thru megaman 9 with it jus fine.
I hate using horizontal mote... it's more uncomfortable than the standard classic controller.

so I jus finished listening to Retronauts where they talked about this game...
Milky had the exact same problems I did!! He said the controls feel loose, which he said was not a problem with the psx version.
still... now I'm actually interested in checking out the GBA offerings becoz supposedly they do a lot more platforming stuff similar to this game's bonus stage, except with the tightness you'd expect a 2D game to have.
I'm definitely adding those games to my priority lists.

Probably gonna Gamefly this in the next couple days. I know this is a remake of the first one so how well does it hold up against Klonoa 2? I loved that game.
EXStrike
05-27-2009, 10:45 AM
The main game for Klonoa is a bit easier than Klonoa 2, with less (if any) "wtf bullshit" moments or puzzles in 2 (like that last airboarding level? fuck that.)
I didn't think the controls felt that loose; I was playing with the Wiimote on its side. Then again, I never played the PSX original.
The ending was ;(
The GBA games were more about platforming and puzzle solving, definitely. Although, one of the final bosses (I think it was Klonoa 2 GBA) made me wish the game controlled a bit better or the Wind Bullet went out a bit farther.
