See, games that offer graphics like this make the Wii shine. It's when they try and go the 360/PS3 route (again just graphics) is when they fail.
I'm really liking the way this looks.
I am becoming a Wii supporter again

I'm pretty sure no information on controls is out yet. I would like the Wii motion plus but I'm not so sure about the balance board. Maybe for a special mode but not required.

the controls for the game was originally simple... even with the current controller i think it could handle it fairly well. i mean all they really need is a simple shake or something on the wiimote and nunchuck to stimulate left or right jab and maybe hold down a or b for uppercuts. i wont go into defense but that could be fairly simple aswell.

I think Mike Tyson would probably want to much money. The guy is more then a little crazy these days you know. Still more characters would be great. Hell i'd download characters and pay $3 for them or something if they make some after launch.

So this is a remake, yeah? (Not complaining! Just asking!)
I hope it's not just a remake - I love the game to death and, provided the controls work, I'd probably buy it either way, but it's been so long since the last game in the series that I'd hope they've come up with SOMETHING new since the SNES era. It's hard to tell from the video (and I'd bet they picked Glass Joe, Von Kaiser, and King Hippo just for nostalgia's sake), but if this is a full-on retail title I'm hoping it'll be just a little more complex than the NES version was.

Why settle for Little Mac when you got Big Mac right here!?
Anyway this is looking awesome as the gameplay looks the same. Just hearing the music again is great. Let's just hope all the racist stereotypes return with a whole bunch more! They touched a lot of countries already but I'll wager on a new character with an Afro and some sort of Hispanic guy. Doc better be around, as well as Mario or an Italian resembling him as ref.
This needs multiplayer for sure. With the roster of colorful characters it would be nice to finally put Don Flamenco against Soda/Vodka. Oh if Vodka Drunkinski made it stateside it would be glorious!

We don't have enough information about the game. But if it is just a port i'd say $30. As long as it has Motion Plus control. Without that $20.
The new over the top stuff like the Cocunuts flying, and Croissants flying with King Hippo and Glass Joe got me enough that I got to play this.

Mind you, I've been an arcade gamer and owner for the past decade. I recently got into home consoles lately, and I'm not claiming to be an expert or anything when it comes to judging a game, but come on man. I don't think it's that impressive. Take a look at Cruis'n Wii for example. It just wasn't meant to be.
Strell
10-08-2008, 09:39 PM
That's not comparable at all.
Cruis'N. Ugh. Yes. That game was horrid, and looked like an N64 game, and I agree completely. But even that isn't comparable to Punch-Out.
I'm just saying the exaggeration is exaggeration.

when i saw that trailer, i was so awed by it. i couldn't believe nintendo has a developer that made something like this visually. the use of the visual type works for this game.
the one aspect of graphics that has gone quite ridiculous on the ps3/360 is on sports games. i noticed that some reviews have commented on the details of the crowds inside the stadium. for instance, on ign pes2008 [i believe it's this review]. the guy wishes the crowds looked a bit better and these comments are also visible in football games as well. the point is, the focus is on the field, not the audience. you see it in this game trailer, the crowds are mere shadows and the main focus is on the ring.

I’m working on that game as a producer. I think people who are fans of the original will be very thrilled to see the kind of style we’ve designed the game in. It will feel very classic. But at the same time, with the 3D polygons and the polygonal rendering of the characters, I think is going to make for some very nice cut-scenes and a little bit deeper story. - Miyamoto

IGN has posted two control schemes:
http://wii.ign.com/articles/958/958936p1.html
Nintendo of America officially revealed this week that the upcoming Wii boxer, Punch-Out!!, based on the classic franchise of the same name, will support multiple control options when it debuts exclusively for the platform later this year. According to the company, players will be able to use the Wii remote motion or classic control to play the game. Control descriptions below:
Motion Control (Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers)
Punch-Out!! uses the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers to simulate throwing punches. Use the Nunchuk to throw a left punch and the Wii Remote to throw a right punch.
Classic Control (Wii Remote NES style)
Fans of the NES version and core gamers will be excited to see Nintendo has also included the option to play Punch-Out!! using the classic layout from the original NES controller. Use the 1 and 2 buttons along with the cross pad to throw hooks and jabs or to dodge.

As it turns out, the IGN article came from a Press sheet that Nintendo sent out, with some interesting info.
http://gonintendo.com/?p=74504
KEY INFORMATION
One of the biggest names in boxing returns after a 15-year hiatus. Grab a Wii Remote™ controller in one hand and a Nunchuk™ controller in the other and step back into the ring with a modern update of the classic Punch-Out!!
* Little Mac is back! Everyone’s favorite underdog from the 1980s joins the best of the original Punch-Out!! cast in a modern re-imagination of the series. Players will find familiar names like Glass Joe, King Hippo and trainer Doc Louis. These boxers come to life again in cel-shaded 3-D, complete with hilarious fighting animations and back stories that capture all the fun and flair of the original Punch-Out!! games.
* The motion-sensitive controls of the Wii console mean that when players throw punches, Little Mac throws punches as well. Additionally, you can control hooks and jabs by combining motion control with control-stick movement. The motion-sensing Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers turn real-life swings into on-screen punches, so anyone can play. The game can also be played with classic NES-style controls by turning the Wii Remote sideways.

Characters: Little Mac, Glass Joe, King Hippo, Doc Louis, Von Kaiser and other unannounced favorites.
Special powers/weapons/moves/features: Players can obtain special “Star Punches,” which allow Little Mac to take more Health from his rival in a single punch.
Control options:
* Motion Control (Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers)
Punch-Out!! uses the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers to simulate throwing punches. Use the Nunchuk to throw a left punch and the Wii Remote to throw a right punch.
* Classic Control (Wii Remote NES™ style)
Fans of the NES version and core gamers will be excited to see Nintendo has also included the option to play Punch-Out!! using the classic layout from the original NES controller. Use the 1 and 2 buttons along with the cross pad to throw hooks and jabs or to dodge.
Interesting information:
- SWEET! DOC IS BACK!!!!
- It sounds like the motion controls are primarily for punching, while dodging, ducking, and/or punch modifiers will be relegated to the control stick. Might work out pretty well, since Wii Sports Boxing had to constantly decide whether you were punching, using a hook/uppercut, or dodging.

New Press releases! explains the motion control system (Sounds interesting), reveals that there will be vs. multiplayer, confirms Don Flamenco's appearance, and says that there will be a total of 13 boxers (6 have been revealed/hinted so far):
Punch-Out!!
Category: Boxing
Age rating: 7+
Players: 1-2
Publisher: Nintendo
Release date: 22/05/2009
The legendary Punch-Out!! is back with a vengeance on Wii, but this time it packs an even bigger punch! Featuring all of the well-known characters from Glass Joe to Von Kaiser, superb duck and weave action, and the addition of enhanced functionality for Wii, the game returns for another assault on Europe on 22 May 2009.
After a flawless fight record on the NES and Super NES, Punch-Out!! revives the story of Little Mac as you follow his journey from up-and-coming boxer in the Bronx, NY to undisputed World champion. The game reunites the much-loved mean men of the World Video Boxing Association, who Little Mac must challenge and defeat one-by-one. The truly international line-up of characters includes all the wacky favourites from Von Kaiser, to King Hippo and tireless trainer Doc Louis.
The game brings the tactics and skills of boxing to Wii as you spot weaknesses in your opponent’s armoury – such as changes in their body position – and exploit them with your best upper cuts, hooks and jabs. However, this time the game packs even more power with bold new 3D graphics and the introduction of the motion sensing controls of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to give a more instinctive boxing experience as you weave, bob and duck your way to the top!
Punch-Out!! on Wii offers great new control opportunities, utilising both the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to let you mimic the movements of the left and right hands as you let the leather fly. Meanwhile, the “classic” control system, invites you to use the Wii Remote in a sideways position to simulate the original NES controller and gives the real retro fight feel that Punch-Out!! fans love.
Punch-Out!! Will certainly bring the thrills of the big ring to Wii and will give you the chance to experience fight night in the comfort of your own living room. It’s seconds out and time for round one!
——————————
Get your gloves on and return to the ring – Punch-Out!! is making a comeback! Originally a hit on the Nintendo Entertainment System back when boxers still fought for 15 rounds, the newest installment in the series comes out swinging on Wii.
An intuitive control scheme takes you closer to the action in the ring than ever before! Unleash hooks, uppercuts and Star Punches by swinging the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, or flip your controller sideways to enjoy the classic NES control scheme.
As big-hearted Bronx brawler Little Mac, you’ll have to launch a one-man assault on the boxing world as you bid to become undisputed champ of the Minor, Major and World ranking organisations. Along the way you’ll lock horns with the likes of Glass Joe, Don Flamenco and the hard-hitting King Hippo. A total of 13 flamboyant fighters stand in your path, every one with a creative new way of trying to make sure you end up face-down on the canvas.
Thankfully, Little Mac can fight back. Armed with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, punching is a simple case of taking a swing at your opponent whilst holding different combinations of buttons. Soften them up with jabs by pressing up on the Nunchuk Control Stick when you punch, or crash home a super-charged Star Punch by holding the C or A Buttons as you let your hands go.
Of course, if you intend to master the sweet science you’ll have to learn how to hit and not get hit. Punch-Out!! calls on you to keep a close eye on your opponents and learn their attack patterns – hopefully leaving them swiping at fresh air and open to a crashing counter. If it all sounds like a lot to remember when the leather starts flying, you’ll be glad to know the game features a helpful tutorial mode to make sure you get to grips with the basics before you climb through the ropes.
Ultimately, you’ll no doubt want to make sure you’re rightfully recognised as the pound-for-pound king of the ring. Punch-Out!! includes a multiplayer mode that lets you and a friend slug it out to the bitter end. As in the single player mode, you’ll want to land punches at the right moment to build up Star Punch points that translate into almighty haymakers! Landing and dodging blows in Head-to-Head mode also builds up a Giga Mac gauge. Once full, your fighter is ready to inflict some serious damage.
Have you always thought you could have been a contender? Then get ready to rumble in the all-action Punch Out!! for Wii.
* Fight it out in Career and Exhibition modes or challenge a friend in Head-to-Head mode.
* Play using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk for a hard-hitting and immersive experience!
* Go retro by holding the Wii Remote sideways like a NES controller and pounding home punches with a simple press of the 1 and 2 Buttons.

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/47167.html
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/47218.html

IGN (http://wii.ign.com/articles/965/965798p1.html) also put up a positive preview.
They mention one of Doc's advice lines:
The characters lip sync all their dialogue, of which there's a ton of well-acted sound bites. Doc Louis is incredibly charming as your ringside coach and offers the same level of advice, both useful and useless, all voice acted. He even hilariously asks you to join the Nintendo Fun Club before correcting himself, advertising Club Nintendo instead.
EDIT: I don't want to bother with bumping this unless there is some major news, but GamePro Germany interviewed one of the designers:
http://nintendodpad.com/+/Dpad_|_News/Entries/2009/3/27_Punch-Out!!_will_have_many_unlockables,_Wii_disc_space_w as_a_problem.html
Kensuke Tanabe, Producer of Punch-Out!!, sheds some light on the possibilities of extras in the game and why some had to get cut.
“There is a lot to unlock! There are for example, characters, new ring environments, challenges, victory animations, etc.” He goes on to say,”...there are lots of challenges outside the ring. Some tutorials, training sessions, etc.”
Sounds good to us, we are big fans of hard work paying off in the form of unlockables but he also stats that disc space was a challenge to get around with this title and that they are the first internal Nintendo dev team to have such a problem with space.
“We packed the disc to the brim and there were a few things we had to leave out because there wasn’t any space left. We are the first internal Nintendo dev team to come across this problem with the Wii’s dvd, so you are def. getting a lot.”
The game is really starting to take shape and from everyones impressions it looks to have fully captured the retro vibe from the original. We will be covering this title like a blanket till the games release but expect more news on the title in the coming weeks.
Just preordered after watching the vids on Gametrailers. I think it was the music from the trailer that sold me. Can't wait!

GameInformer had some Punch-Out!! info in their AC2 issue:
http://nintendodpad.com/Welcome/News/Entries/2009/4/13_Punch-Out!!_to_have_Exhibition_Mode%2C_practice%2C_chall enges%2C_unlockables.html
It confirms Bear Hugger and Don Flamenco, reveals an exhibition/training mode, and challenges for unlockables.
There will be all new modes in Punch-Out!!, we already know of the multi-player mode but there will also be an exhibition mode where you can rematch any fighter of your choosing, as well as the ability to practice against holographic simulations of the boxers you can not seem to take down.
There will also be 3 challenges every fight that if successfully accomplished will unlock bonuses such as voice samples, music and much more. Boy do we love challenges, anything to up the replay value is a plus in our book.
We already know that Don Flamenco and Bear Hugger will make returns but it has been stated that the Bruiser Twins, which were once in the game, were cut at the end of production due to them “not fitting in” with the rest of the roster.
Punch-Out!! seems to be coming along well with different modes to play and replay value to boot. Hopefully more info is revealed in the coming weeks.
Also, this week's Best Buy ad has a picture of a Punch-Out!! pre-order ad slip that looks like it confirms Soda Popinski, along with another boxer, but I can't tell if it's Piston Hurricane or Mr. Sandman due to the small size of the picture on BB's web site.
EDIT: GameInformer info, including Bear Hugger and Don Flamenco's new look (His character art reminds me of Antonio Banderas, but it seems that from his in-game look, he's still humorously obsessed with his hair toupee), confirmed by scans of the article from GohanSephiroth of GameFAQs:

Hm? It's been known for quite a while that the dodge and jab controls were mapped to the analog stick for the motion control scheme. Don't forget that there's that "classic" control scheme too, with the Wiimote held sideways like the NES controller.

I've seen the previews and I noticed that a lot of players at GDC tended to get into a Wii Boxing mentality while playing Punch-Out, as evidenced by their dodging motions and a number of previewers just flailing the Wiimote around; they either didn't listen to the control instructions and made spot assumptions, or they just developed some tough-to-break Wii Boxing habits.
The Nintendo Power review above also confirms that the only time dodging motions come into play is with the Wiimote+Balance Board control scheme. The other schemes rely either on the Analog stick (Motion scheme) or D-pad (Classic scheme) for most of the actions.

That's definitely a relief, then. I don't know why I'm hyped for this game all of a sudden, maybe it's the theme. I've never really had much experience with Punch Out (I've played maybe 1 fight against Glass Joe on the Animal Crossing version and that's it), but we'll see if I like it or not. I plan on using Wiimote/Nunchuck, though.

If you're a returning Punch-Out! fan and you don't want to read any spoilers, let me summarize their description of this mode using an analogy.
Punch-Out! (NES):Super Mario Bros. :: Title Defense:SMB2J (The Lost Levels) :: Punch-Out!! (Wii):Super Mario Bros. Deluxe
I seriously hope this game is at least Punch Out difficulty and not Super Punch Out difficultly. Super Punch Out was so ridiculously easy.

Agreed. I was thinking the same thing reading the GI preview. I hope this shit is hard because the difficulty of the NES game still has me playing it 20 years later. Tyson has some unforgiving difficulty but most of the 2nd half of the game bouts are enjoyably challenging.
I'm not sure I buy that the motion controls will be good enough (precise) to work during challenging gameplay. I'll stick to the old school controls.

Still looking forward to this, but i honestly have this feeling that the game is going to bomb sales wise. I think this game would have been great as a PSN/Live title, but as a retail 50 buck game with no online and only 13 unique boxers, seems pretty lackluster overall as a package. I flippin love Punch Out on NES and the SNES one, while easy, is still great. We'll see how it goes.

"super punch-out!! is also a perfect compliment to the new game since it plays almost exactly the same way but shares only five of its 16 opponents with the Wii title." -Chris Si June 2009 nintendo power review of super punch-out!! for VC.
1.Bald Bull
2.Bear Hugger
we know those 2 already^
3.Super Macho Man (leaked cause of esrb rating)
4.Mr. Sandman (best buy add)
5.??? my guess Dragon Chan.
the 3 pics of SPO in the review are of Bear Hugger Bald Bull and Dragon Chan, imo this is a hint...
ALSO this means Mr. Dream doesn't "fit" since he wasn't in "super punch-out!!" UNLESS Soda Popinski is cut... imo Soda is likely to come back and that silhouette is just a place holder.
this would also make Super Macho Man the last boss... which does not feel right to me, however with the new video of title defense mode i really feel the first run through the 13 boxers is more like HALF WAY threw the game so a secret final boss *cough*Doc Louis*Cough* after "title defense mode" is a definite possibility.
Wait, what? Piston Hondo? WTF?
Also... "plays exactly like Super Punch Out" is not a good thing to me.

Wait, what? Piston Hondo? WTF?
Also... "plays exactly like Super Punch Out" is not a good thing to me.
It seems like an unlikely comparison. This is a remake of the NES Punch-Out!, and I have yet to see any major mechanics added from Super Punch Out, except maybe the transparent boxer perspective and that up is block and down is duck. It still uses the Stars & Hearts systems from PO, there's still three rounds with the possibility of winning by decision, and there is still a bigger focus on "puzzle-solving" and exploiting weaknesses.
SPO, on the other hand, had the S-Gauge that gave you unlimited specials as long as you didn't get hit, and generally, every fighter could be beaten by punching them like crazy until they staggered, then hitting them more with your punches and specials. The latter has been proven impossible in Punch-Out!! (Wii) due to the preview videos already released, as many players in the videos who tried this "Non-stop punching" strategy either found themselves going nowhere at best (Even Glass Joe knows how to block), and at worst leaving themselves open to the opponent's punches.
Quick Note: I made a quick edit to the roster in my above post, since some folks at GameFAQs looked through the official site's code, and it sounds like Bear Hugger is going to be added to the site on Friday

You do realize there must be a 5th SPO character according to that quote i posted above. It's from the Virtual Console Review of SPO in the June 2009 Nintendo power, NOT in the Punch-Out!! Wii sections of the magazine so i think a lot of people missed it but it's a HUGE factor in determining who the remaining unconfirmed characters are.
the currently proposed roster Can't be the final roster, since you've only got 4 characters who appear in SPO.

It's a Nintendo product, you'll wait years for it to show up in a Players Choice line, if and when Nintendo makes one for the Wii.
That said, some store might have a decent deal, but no MSRP drop is coming this decade.
Ryukahn

I'm sure it will be on sale somewhere, didn't mean I'd wait for an MSRP drop. Animal Crossing has been $30 several times already, as well as other Nintendo First Party games, even though MSRP is still the same as it was on release. This game just doesn't look like it has enough new stuff in it to warrant a $50 price tag.

Um...wrong. That is not Soda. It is the character in this video most likely:
I think that video clenches it (Pun Intended). Aran Ryan was certainly a first thought for me, but there was a part of me that doubted it. Probably denial, since Ryan was easily the blandest boxer in the Super Punch Out line-up (A Piston Hurricane clone with a strong defense and clenches), only ranking above Pizza Pasta and Kid Quick for the whole series. The thing in the video that did it for me? I had forgotten that Aran Ryan wore green shorts with a yellow stripe; I always thought that he wore gray shorts.
But I still have faith that they wouldn't include him if they didn't have some plans to make him more interesting. After all, they did a great job changing the bland Kid Quick into Disco Kid, so it will likely work out. I guess the only question left is who he is replacing, if anybody. Popinski, Mr. Sandman, and Mr. Dream are the only three who haven't been completely confirmed. Now it's clear that it was the former two in that Best Buy ad a few weeks ago, so that just leaves Mr. Dream.
However, I'm not quite convinced that he's being replaced. What if he wasn't a part of the 13 figure, but he's still in the game? This thought came to me when ONM UK called the main mode "a good introduction" to the rest of the game, which is not something that you would say if it involved Mike Tyson/Mr. Dream. Consider this: Mike Tyson/Mr. Dream was an incredibly challenging final boss, so what if Mr. Dream, rather than being a part of the main 13, turns out to be the final boss of Title Defense mode (Sort of like the "Another World Circuit" in the NES game)?

I'm new to this forum and haven't read the whole thread, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I've read several places that the game has 16 opponents, not 13.
Given this, it all fits. There would be:
- Four circuits with four opponents each a la Super Punch-Out!!
- All ten characters from the original Punch-Out!!
- Five characters from Super Punch-Out!! (Considering Bald Bull, Mr. Sandman, and Super Macho Man to be Punch-Out!! characters, not Super Punch-Out Characters.
- A final boss not in any of the four circuits, possibly Mr. Dream.
We already have Bear Hugger and Aran Ryan confirmed, so the final roster would look like this:
Aran Ryan
Bald Bull
Bear Hugger
Disco Kid
Don Flamenco
Glass Joe
Great Tiger
King Hippo
Mr. Sandman
Piston Hondo
Soda Popinski
Super Macho Man
Von Kaiser
??? (Super Punch-Out!! Character)
??? (Super Punch-Out!! Character)
??? (Super Punch-Out!! Character)
Mr. Dream
The Super Punch-Out!! roster, not including the opponents already listed above, looks like this:
Gabby Jay - Profoundly unpopular, made redundant by the presence of Glass Joe.
Piston Hurricane - Made redundant by the presence of Piston Honda.
Bob Charlie - Bland and unpopular, but perhaps they want some Jamaican flavor? Could be updated.
Dragon Chan - The obvious choice. The most popular character from Super Punch-Out!!, and the most commonly referenced.
Masked Muscle - The spitting made some purists mad, but the character is colorful, and provides an opportunity to play with Mexican stereotypes in a lighthearted way, like what they're doing with the French Glass Joe and the Japanese Piston Hondo.
Heike Kagero - Presence is unlikely, given that the game already has the Japanese Piston Hondo, but possibility of a more proper execution of the bishōnen concept is intriguing, as opposed to the creepy transvestite they made him the first time.
Mad Clown - Colorful but unpopular. The addition of another obese character seems unlikely.
Narcis Prince - Sort of unmemorable, but so is Aran Ryan. He seems to fit in the new roster better than most of the other Super Punch-Out!! opponents, though it might be redundant to have two characters absorbed with their personal appearance in Don Flamenco and Narcis Prince.
Hoy Quarlow - Use of the staff angered most original Punch-Out!! players, doesn't seem to fit in with the roster.
Assuming my interpretation of the information is correct, I'd say Dragon Chan is just about a given, but I'm stumped on the other two. I think we can safely rule out Gabby Jay, Piston Hurricane, Hoy Quarlow, so the remaining two could come from Bob Charlie, Masked Muscle, Heike Kagero, Mad Clown, and Narcis Prince.

Not to derail the conversation here, but I have a NES Punch-Out quesiion. Punch-Out is my favorite game. I've played it incessantly. I can playthrough the entire game without getting punched (excluding Sandman's and Tyson's rather erratic punches that come out of nowhere sometimes)
Two days ago, I dodged one of White Tyson's (I refuse to call him Mr. Dream) punches. But I did so by accidentally mashing on the upper left hand part of the directional pad. This caused me to not dodge, nor block, but do some kind of diagonal dodge which is accompanied by a sound. What in the hell did I do? I've never seen nor heard it before.

In the NES version, if you double-tap the block button (Down), then Mac will duck. It's a pretty useless move in the NES version, as it is basically just another dodge direction that's tougher to successfully pull off than the other dodges.

World Circuit: Aran Ryan, Soda Popinsky, Bald Bull, Super Macho Man, then Mr. Sandman (Title Holder)...then Title Defense
Interesting stuff, especially the order. Back when I played the NES version, it always confuzzled me how Super Macho Man came after Mr. Sandman, as Sandman was clearly the tougher opponent. SMM was pretty predictable, as he had Soda's punches, and even his most threatening attack (Multi Spin Punch) had a pretty easy-to-master rhythm. Sandman on the other hand had quicker attacks, more difficult timing, and was difficult, if not impossible, to get Star Punches from. So I'm glad to hear that Sandman is now the champion.
And the requisite roster update:
Glass Joe

Some people have said that once you beat Title Defense Mode, you fight another opponent. Although nothing has come up to back this claim.

Really?? Sandman was always easy for me while SMM was proably the hardest guy for me to beat in the game. Yes, even harder than Tyson/Dream. Maybe I'm just weird?

1up has videos of Title Defense up feature Glass Joe and King Hippo. Whoever played lost both times. It looks like getting knocked down twice in a row after getting knocked down 3 times is an instant KO. Of course, no one's trying the secret stay alive move.

Probably has something to do with:

In all seriousness, KingBroly is probably talking about the "Press the Select button between rounds" code from the NES version. I think I heard somewhere that it still does something in the Wii game. Of course, as he said, no one seems to have tried it yet, or they just don't want to say what it does

No...not talking about that. In one of the videos I saw (And it was talked about on the IGN Podcast) that if you get knocked down, before you go down, if you mash the 1 & 2 buttons at the same time you stay up and continue fighting.

Damn that is a good deal. I'm getting it for around $12 after using a GS GC but I would have jumped on this deal otherwise.

Aran is now Irish, which is a lot better than Blond haired and Blue Eyed.

1. As pointed out before, just about the entire World Circuit is now up, sans videos, on the official site (http://www.punchout.com/).
2. Also mentioned were the reviews that came out today:
9 from GameInformer (http://gameinformer.com/NR/exeres/A0C4B537-1267-41BA-83F4-38BE5F4E28E4.htm)
A+ from 1UP (http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3174243)
8.8 from IGN (http://wii.ign.com/articles/983/983268p1.html)
3. IGN found a cameo (http://gonintendo.com/?p=82759) in the audience...
4. Brawl in the Family (http://www.brawlinthefamily.com/) put up a webcomic for Punch-Out!!.

Gametrailers just released their video review...8.5. Not bad at all, although the small number of boxers is a bit disappointing despite the additional "challenges" and second-run through scenarios.

I like how the GameTrailers review says they don't want to spoil who the last guy is, but then they show several clips of him, including him getting defeated. Aran Ryan looks quite badass now, looks like they definitely justified his being there.

Indeed, that part of the review was really infuriating.
"There are 12 fighters and one secret boxer, we're not going to say who it is."
*Proceed to show five clips of the "secret boxer" throughout the rest of the review*
I mean, really, it's one thing to just show the clips, it's another thing entirely to say that you aren't going to give spoilers on something, then almost immediately show part of what's essentially the ending footage for the first run-through. Compared to that, the footage in IGN's video footage seems relatively tame in the spoiler department.
EDIT: I went to the NeoGAF thread, where one of the GT reviewers (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=15872185&postcount=564) admitted that the line was an error. He meant to say "13 boxers, with one secret boxer," with 14 boxers in total. He said that it would be fixed on Monday. Likely means that there will be a boxer waiting at the end of Title Defense.

Same here... Super Punch-Out!!, which was Ryan's debuting game, even has him billed as being from Ireland:

I had always thought the player (who is blond haired) was Aran Ryan in the pictures I had seen since I've never played Super Punch-Out.
Mea Culpa on jumping to conclusions, I had assumed it was a joke from the Nintendo team.

Target right?
There are four routes to chooseth from:
a) Have a Wiimote without a nunchuk? Go for Target's $54 Punch-Out!!/Nunchuk bundle.
b) Planning to buy Punch-Out!! and Boom Blox: Bash Party (Or another Wii game)? Go for Toys R Us' $10 off deal.
c) Don't want to get anything with Punch-Out!!, or want to get something outside of the launch week? Go for Best Buy Reward Zone's $10 gift card coupon (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=223470&highlight=Punch-Out!!). (Reward Zone membership required, according to the coupon)
d) The best deal so far, since there are no extra obligations or gift cards involved: Amazon.com's $39.99 Pre-order deal (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=224501), combine it with the ECA discount or any other coupon to lower the price further. Of course, there is shipping time to consider, and this deal price will probably only be offered for a few days before they go back to MSRP.
Anyone doing gamestops punchout tournament the week after the game comes out. The prize is stupid ( a punchout t-shirt).

I'm through the Major Circuit now. I lost once to Don Flamenco and that was it. His timing is a little tricky, especially with the Wiimote/Nunchuck. I tried a practice match against Aran Ryan and I think I know what I need to do against him, although winning via decision seems like a really good idea.
The Punch Out site got a redesign with videos of all 13 regular fighters as well as title defense artwork for those 13, not to mention wallpapers and icons you can get by finding 3 stars.
