Does anyone know why some games allow you to download stuff in the background when you are playing them (shows in Download Management) while others do not?
Like for instance if I'm playing Bionic Commando Rearmed or Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway, all my downloads get switched to "Pending" status. But if I play LEGO Batman, then it shows my downloads downloading as normal.

Some games constantly stream the network for rankings, searching for updates, and other things. Games that do that, it will not download in the background. Games which are 100% offline (except for showing you are playing the game) allow background downloading. It's hard to explain, but that's the situation.

It's hard to explain, but that's the situation.I'm thinking it's more of a developer function?FIFA 08 let's you d/l in the background while playing it and the game has a podcast to download so you can listen to it.

Yeah I just noticed this yesterday when I was downloading the LPBbeta.. I was like what did my download stop, but then when I switched to Batman, it resumed.
I don't think there's any list anywhere that show which games allow background downloading and which don't, so I guess I'll just have to experiment with different ones.

Background downloading stops when you're playing games with an online component (online play, leaderboards, etc).
