I might not have saved much by getting the LE of Fallout 3, but for 150 I got Fallout 3, NBA 2K9 and Saints Row 2.

I bought them online and will probably keep all 3 since Im very happy with them. In case I decide to toss NBA 2K9 do you think they would let me return it in a store? Or even just return for money back?

Oh, and I rented Dead Space from BB today. 7 bucks for a couple weeks. Ill beat it and be done with it. Fallout and SR have replay value

I think it will drop after release. I was thinking of doing the same on eBay, but shipping these things out won't be cheap either.

Yeah...probably true. Still tempting though, as long as you could sell them for over 40 per plus shipping you would still be getting a deal.

So yesterday my brother and I went to get 3 socom bundles 1 for each of us and 1 for a friend but they only had 2 so i grabbed SR2 as a placeholder. Today i called a different TRU and they had 1 socom bundle so i asked them to hold it and i rushed over. I handed the gift receipt to the lady at the register and she then scanned it in and gave me a giftcard with $64 on it. So instead of getting that 3rd socom i just went on my way with my B1G1 deal :)

Probably a dumb question, but does TRU have this B2G1 Free ad in stores? I'd like to see if BB can match the ad.

Got Saints Row 2 (360), Dead Space (PS3) and SOCOM bundle as well. I'm gonna call another TRU tomorrow to try and exchange the PS3 Dead Space for the 360 version. I don't wanna deal with that same TRU as the grouchy manager there told me, with a snarl, "If you wanna do that kind of exchange, you'll have to bring allof the games in while the promo is still going on."

Sheesh. This when the R-Zone employee just told me I could do it without any problems. They really need to get their policies together and stick to them. Makes me weary to even open up any of the other games if I'm gonna get stuck with the PS3 version of Dead Space.

damn, the TRU by me (Maryland Prky + Flamingo in Vegas) sold the last copy of Dead Space a few minutes before I got there. they had no Socom bundles..

ugh, i ended up getting Rock Band 2, Pure, and Saint's Row 2. I asked for gift receipts on Pure and Saint's Row 2 since RB2 is the game i wanna keep. the associate, a very disgruntled lady, said "i'll try but yesterday it wouldn't let me give more than 1 gift receipt." After the transaction she hands me 3 gift receipts and Pure was the free game... She shuffled the games after grabbing them from the case. I shoulda paid more attention but some European guy was berating her on how there were no cashiers in the store so he was making a scene..

ugh, a gift receipt for the free game means nothing right? i can't exchange it right?

I might just ask for a giftcard for both RB2 and Saint's Row 2 so I can just head to the RZone area once they restock Dead Space and get Fable 2 next week.

I swapped out Star Wars Force Unleashed for Dead Space for ps3 since thats all they had. LIC TRU had a couple of copies of Dead Space for ps3 only, 360 sold out early in the day. They didnt have any copies of Socom. They had a couple of copies of SR2 for both systems. They didn't have 2k9.

My haul so far is Dead Space(PS3), SR (360) and Rock Band 2 (360) as my free game. I also spoke to the manager of the store, who has a pretty cool guy and he said that I could bring back any game as long as it wasnt the free one within the 45 day exchange period for any game they had in stock.

I also tried the Maspeth TRU on Metropolitan Ave in Queens and they had nothing. The only thing of note was SR2 for the PS3, no 360 copies, no 2k9, no dead space, nor socom. The place looked cleaned out.

Also, as an aside, at the LIC TRU, I picked up the Silver Surfer, Galactus and Human Torch muggs!

Dead Space is now available at the Middle Village TRU, but there were only 3 left about 1.5 hrs ago. I just saw a bunch of people staring at a bunch of games they didn't want, but had to buy b/c they didn't want to pass up on the B2G1 deal. Since they didn't have SOCOM nor NBA 2k9 there, I went to the LIC location, which had just as bad a selection as Middle Village. I'm going to try my luck at BB PM tomorrow morning.

Jackson, MS. I was able to pick up Dead Space (Only had 2 copies and I got the last), Saints Row 2, and Pure. Here's the kicker... almost snagged FABLE 2, alas, it would not scan. lol. 3 people tried. I told them why not just let that be the free game and enter it manually? Manager was trying but I couldn't get it to work right. They said, "Well just get another game and come back tomorrow and we will see if it works then. Lol. I said, "Ok I will be back in a few days..."

My Toys R Us still has not gotten Dead Space for any system in. Funny though... They have display cases for Dead Space, Gears Of War 2, Fallout 3, Fable 2, ect... I asked what was up and if I could buy any since the box stated to take the box to the front and ask the employee for a real copy. Naturally, they said no we do not have them. Asked about Little Big Plane and Rock Band 2 for PS3 and they said they did not know when they were getting them in. This is why I stay away from this place.

Pootie Thang must've got the last SOCOM with headset at Westminster because they didn't have that or Dead Space (360) when I got there today. So I got Buzz TV!, Saint's Row 2 360, Mercs 2 360, Clubhouse Games, Virtua Fighter 5 Online 360 and Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix 360 all for 173.48 after tax. No go on the gift reciept though so I will probably start playing them and just keep the ones I got.

My situation was nearly identical (just had Brothers in Arms to exchange for Dead Space 360 instead of PS3 Dead Space. The manager at my TRU snarled at me too since her sales girl had trouble typing in the SKU numbers of the other games I got and blamed me for not bringing my other games when I was told the day before I wouldn't need them. At least we got our Dead Spaces :)

I went to Wal-Mart on lunch today, and they refused to price match the TRU deal. So after work, I went to TRU, and checked out the stuff they had on the shelf, and it was a pretty meager selection. I wanted to pick out 3 games that I'd want incase something happened, but I could only find 1. Their selection was pretty crappy on the shelf. So I walked over to Best Buy (which is directly attached to the TRU in the same building), and they refused to price match the TRU deal on the grounds that they only matched specific dollar off sales. It was worth a shot. :)

I walked back over to TRU to take another look just in case, but I expected to just give up and walk out of there, because I didn't want to risk it and buy games that I don't want. I just happened to take a look at their case behind the register this time, and eureka, there sat probably the only 2 other games I would want--the SOCOM headset bundle for the PS3, and Dead Space for the 360. I got those two along with NBA 2K9 for the 360. SOCOM was rung up as my free game, and as far as I could tell, was the last one in the Lexington, KY store.

So, Dead Space is definitely my "placeholder" as a game that will be taken back and attempted to exchange with another in the future. I'll most likely keep NBA 2K9, and I'll read up on SOCOM to see how it is, and possibly keep it.

I saw they finally had Dead Space so I couldnt resist buying games again...

Dead Space FREE

if you wondering why wasnt the Undiscovery the free game is because for some odd reason the lady gave me $20 off selected item

In the end I only paid for $108.73...

Hey, I have a question, Im going to TRU tomorrow and since the closest to me is the one in times square, and they are over charging for dead space and socom, so I was thinking about countering this. Some of you have reported that Infinite Undiscovery, when its rung up, shows up as 40 dollars, yet it counts as a 60 dollar game and w/e third game, would be the free one. Can I get 2 infinite undiscoverys and a free game (NBA 2k9) and then exchange the IUs for two $60 PS3 game later?? (Sorry if this is considered fraud).

Short answer: that will not work.

Long answer: Infinite Undiscovery rings up as a $59.99 game, and that's what the system counts toward the B2G1 deal. After it is checked for the deal (and only if it's the first or second $59.99 game in the stack), the system rings IU through as $39.99. If you were to return IU, you could only exchange it for a $39.99 game. If you tried to convince a cashier otherwise, it would be considered fraud.

Guys the deal is still on for all day today right? Its just that today I gte paid so I was waiting till saturday to come.

Anyhow Will the following work? I plan to buy Dead Space(want),(placeholder), and Socom(free). When I ring up the games, I should ask for a gift receipt for the placeholder game correct?(make BS story too) That way I can exchange that for Bioshock next week. So the deal is:

Dead Space(keep)
Other game(placeholder) <-Get gift receipt for this?
Socom(free)

Also my other worry is that since TRU dont like to carry M-rated titles, what are the chances of them never stocking Bioshock(ps3)? Like that would suck if I cant get the gamem from them.

For those who are trying to price match the Toys R Us deal at BestBuy here in Los Angeles, I suggest you go to BestBuy West L.A. store because that is the only store in Los Angeles that will price match this deal. I have tried in store & called 6 different stores & the West L.A. store was the only one that price matches. Just be sure to be bring in the ad or print the first page of the ad (that's what I did).

Man, they shipped my Wii point cards on the 15th...like 3 days after I ordered them. They might not even GET here till next week Friday.:hot:

W...T....fuckck?

NEVER ordering online from them again.

In store on Thursday I got:

Dead Space (might keep, might trade for LBP...so many games to play I can wait to open it.)
Infinite Undiscovery (Was gonna trade for Dokapon, but I have it now, so might keep it.)
Ninja Gaiden 2 (Free!)

I have a quick question. I went to the Southfield, MI store to get Dead Space as my keep game, but when they rang it up I completely forgot about it. I noticed it just after and had them change it for me. I called the Pontiac, MI store that is closer to me and asked them if I can exchange stuff from this store to theirs and they said yes. I was wondering if how I had them do my reciept would be a problem when I go to exchange for Fallout 3 and Fable 2 in the coming weeks. I had them give me gift reciepts too if that matters. Here's a scan of my reciept, sorry if it's a little big.

Man, so I got Saints Row 2, FIFA 09, and Dead Space (free game) the other day. I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep FIFA 09, so I went back into Toys R Us to get a gift receipt, in case I wanted to swap it for a different game later. Instead, the guy at the counter just gave me my money back for FIFA 09, effectively giving me a Buy One Get One Free. :D I didn't complain, and decided to pick up an Elmo Live with the money I got back. I figured I can sell it on eBay, give it to my expensive-children's-toy-collecting mother, or just keep it at my place for some tailgating entertainment. Haha.

Oh, and right when I got to the Video Games department, I see this associate walking out of their inventory room with three Wiis. So I had to get one. And I had to buy 2 Wii games and get 1 free. Now I have to start saving up money to recoup my spending from this weekend.

shouldn't be a problem, I had them do the same thing to mine after I forgot, I still got gift receipts too, my store told me it should be fine and I can exchange any except the free one.

Bioshock has already been delivered to my store. Most stores should have this game on release day.

Sorry I'm way late to the party, but I was wondering how big of a pain ordering and doing returns was online. The closest TRU to me is an hour away which kills the deal, so I was curious if anyone had any experience doing this via their website. Worth my time? Are returns awful? Thanks!

I picked up Fallout 3 CE, Socom Bundle, and MGS4 online today. $150 total so divided by 3 I got Fallout for $50 which is way better than $80 lol. It sucks Socom and Dead Space are "pre-order" on their website...

Damn, I like to get FO3 CE through TRU since it also has fs but I cant fing anything else to make it a really good deal. I think I may just go back to BB and get some "return" fodder and just get the regular edition of FO3.

Are there any in game features exclusive to the CE? I know it comes with a lunch box, bobble head, and a book but I dont think I've read about any in game extras.

What really sucks is that SH: Homecoming isn't even an eligible game & even if Dead Space was already out, I doubt that it would be elibigle either. Or... does someone know if ALL titles in store are eligible & the restrictions are only online?

Odd that it says pre-orders don't qualify yet Fallout 3 Ltd. Edition works, but SH: Homecoming doesn't.

I'm also not sure if I just got ripped off or not 'cuz I have an email from them with my order number & a payment confirmation from PayPal, but if I log into the TRU site it says I have no orders. I also called cust. service & they said I have no orders too... but the $130+ was taken out of my PayPal acct! WTF?!?!?!?!

All the titles are eligible. Online Silent Hill didn't ring up as free but I called the store and asked for and received a credit, for which I received verification 2 days later in e-mail. I haven't checked my credit card to see if I did in fact receive my credit though.

There's always people like that. I managed a Gamestop once and had a woman try to pull returning just one of the games for a full refund. When I rejected her and told her that would violate the promotion (thus making it B1G1F) she actually said "That's one way to look at it....."

To which I replied "No, it's the only way to look at it" and then moved on.

I'll never understand what makes people think they can twist things like that. Then again, they probably read Ann Coulter too.

I'm not trying to brag but earlier this week I bought Bia:HH, Fracture, and Gta 4 from toys r us with Bia being my free game and the other two as placeholders. I had already bought Bia at gamecrazy on releasse day and Toys r us didn't have deadspace on wednesday which I initially wanted as my free game.

So I took back Bia to Gamecrazy w/ my receipt and got deadspace( which turned out to be my free game.) Today I called toys r us to see if they had socom and deadspace (for my bro -in-law), they said yes and that would hold them for me.

Long story short, I get there and the girl tells me they can't sell socom until the 20th because the computer won't let them I raised a bit of a stink because on the phone I wasn't told that . I complain to a manager and go to Customer Service to return Fracture and Gta for store credit to use at a future date since the sale was ending today anyway, and what did the lady do? She gives me cash back totaling $130.12 and even looked at the original receipt showing the $0.00 game. I was speechless and didn't say anything just calmly walked out.

Before you think what I did was wrong, I was just tring to exchange the games for two different titles. So I ended up with a free copy of deadspace and can use my cash anywhere I want for LBP, Fallout 3, Far cry2 Geow2 etc..

Am I wrong for this? What would you have done?

True story!

Are you an idiot? I bought 3 OF THE SAME GAMES meaning 3 GAMES THAT ARE THE SAME.

I bought 3 Sega Superstar Tennis games. I paid 80$ total. I want to know if I return ONE of them will I get a FULL refund? Considering all three are the SAME, how will they go about distinguishing if it is one of the two that I PAID for or the last one that is free.

I know this isnt a big deal, but how will you guys return the games on the 21st?

Me, I plan on bringing all 3 games, leaving them in the car, going in the store, hoping they have fallout 3, fable 2, and farcry 2, if so I will leave store, get my 3 games out of car, go into store, ask if I can exchange...

I mean, walking in with them and finding out they dont have good new games to exchange for just might seem iffy...then again, so does my way...IDK rofl I just don't like when people think im being sketchy, I dont want them to think something weird is going on, and shoot down my exchange. Im just a pranoid guy.

BTW, my gift receipt doesnt list the prices for any of the games, so technically couldnt I exchange them all?

It has the date, so they'll know I got one for free, but I figured maybe they dont care?

actually the barcodes r the same. one game has one barcode. basically, if u look at the receipt, and have 2 or 3 of the same games, all the barcodes for that game r the same. they do not itemize EACH copy of the SAME GAME with a different barcode. all the copies carry the same barcode

so technically, the TRU employee can be a bitch and say...."oh u cant exchange this cause this is the free game" even tho theres no way she/he can tell its the one that got rung up free. te person asking however, can maybe bring 2 with him/her but that s sketchy too. i guess just try retuning one and see what happens cause it does depend on yor local TRU

how is it a fraud when they dont ask for the FREE game to be returned???

I can understand someone getting rejected because that person did not have free game which they as asking for but somewhat manage to still get a full refund on 2 paid games...

all it means is that the deal has a flaw which people smart enough figured it out, if I were TRU when they do this deal again just add a no return when deal is still going on exchange can happen but no return...

Found this definition: In the broadest sense, a fraud is a deception made for personal gain or to damage another individual. The specific legal definition varies by legal jurisdiction. Fraud is a crime, and is also a civil law violation. Defrauding people of money is presumably the most common type of fraud.

Plain and simple, if you are trying to get some financial gain, its FRAUD!

Fraud is a crime, and is also a civil law violation. Defrauding people of money is presumably the most common type of fraud.

Plain and simple, if you are trying to get some financial gain, its FRAUD!

if you think about it some of the blame goes to empolyee and manager of the store, some TRU empolyee did not ask for the 3rd game to be return while others TRU empolyee did ask for them...

I'm not understanding what's going on here.

Are you guys saying it's fraud to take our 3 games we got duringB2G1F, and exchange all 3 for 3 better games?

Or did I miss some other evil scheme?

Also, when I go to exchange my 2-3 games for 2-3 new games, do I do it at customer service? Will they say "Ok, go to electronics and get the games you want and come back here" or how does this work?
I've never exchanged electronics before, especially at Toys R Us...and I doubt I just take them to the electronics section, do I?

Go to the electronics department first, get your game and then go to customer service. Do that if you dont want to wait in line 3 times

By doing fraud, this makes the company end these special nice sales because they lose even more.

I'm backing up all the talk about severely punishing all these fraud sayers...

An example, Target had a $5 off any value coupon for toys... what did people do, abuse the hell out of it and even edited the coupon to use the coupon on anything.

I've seen people saying they bought a couple pizzas and cat litter and used the coupon.

Sure we can blame the store and target for being this stupid, but again, it's the people that really flagged it off, and I doubt we'll see something that nice again.

The coupon ended roughly one month early than the supposed expiration date.

Anyways, I picked up 3 DS games that I will enjoy. Thanks to this deal saved $30 and not have to nit pick with clearence or depend on sales at amazon. Even picked up an exclusive title at TRU.

So i went to my Toys R Us in Okemos, MI to return my two placeholder games for store credit and they said that without all 3 being returned for a refund, the system would take 1/3 of the price off of the two games I was trying to return.

So I went back later in the day when there were new employees there and I still got denied, and they won't even let me do an exchange for two games of the same price! I told them (and this is 100% true) that I spoke with one of their employees for a half hour before I made this purchase and he told me everything would be fine as long as I didn't try to return the free game. The manager was a dick and didn't even care what his employee said. He kept saying the system would automatically screw me over.

So now I feel SOL because they won't let me do an exchange or get store credit. I have no idea what to do because I want Fallout 3 and Gears 2 but if they won't let me even exchange...? No idea why this won't work for me since I am only trying to exchange 2 $60 games for 2 different $60 games WITHIN my allowed 45 day return window.

Please Help.

There's no nothing we can do to help. I think it was made pretty clear in the OP and throughout the thread that getting "placeholder" games was YMMV. You could try returning them again to other employees or another store (I assume you can do this at TRU...not 100% sure, though...barely shop there, anymore).

Hello:

I just traded in 2 xbox 360 games that were the "free" games for fable 2 and far cry 2. They did something in their system to make the games come up .01 each. Took less than 5 minutes...

Has anyone been refused a trade in on a game that has rung up free?

This was at the toys r us in deptford NJ.

Asked them when they think they would have it and the guy on the phone said the 29th. Well, they had them but they couldn't sell them because of the recall.

Just wanted to let you guys know I went to my TRU this weekend and exchanged one of my place holders, Star Wars force Unleashed, for Fable 2. The person at the return counter was an old lady so she didnt know what was up and had to call the manager. She looked a t teh receipts , verified that the game was sealed and was not the free game and just told me to go pick my game at the video game department.

Went in asked for Fable 2 and got out in less than 10 minutes. I still have RockBand 2 as my second place holder for Fallout 3 this week. I'll try to go on a different day to see if I can get someone else just to avoid making it seem like IM taking advantage. On the other hand though, there shouldnt be any problems as you're just exchanging it for another game at the same price.

While I was there I picked up another copy of FF Tactics and Castlevania for the PSP which were only 9.99 each. FTW!!!

Just came back from TRU in Anaheim Hills, CA. Was able to exchange Mercenaries 2 for Fallout 3. Initially everything was going smoothly until the supervisor showed up and asked what was going on. He said they don't do exchanges on the b2g1 deal (I used a gift receipt, but they were able to look up my original receipt through the computer) but he said he would allow it this one time. He said some BS about the deal only working with games that are in-stock at the time. Had I been a recipient of a gift from the b2g1 and got a crappy game, I'm pretty much SOL?

Luckily Mercs 2 was a game I paid for, so he let it slide.

No, not here in houston...went to the nearest TRU today at 2pm and asked for little big planet as it wasn't in the case or on the shelf and they went looking for it. Guy came back and said that it's back there but,"that means that we can't sell them." I asked when will they sale them and was told TRU will not ever sell the game. :/

Walmart was right next door so I tried my luck to buy it there as I am getting desperate and just don't care anymore and they didn't have it either.

I've pretty much for years done the whole placeholder thing, but I heard they were cracking down this year. And didn't believe it. Yet yesterday I went to try to exchange the (unopened) games I bought at the TRU deal and the clerk specifically said they were told not to exchange games bought during that sale.

Has anyone had any luck exchanging these games? I could try another TRU or two, but if its really an actual policy that they are telling employees it might not be worth the hassle. I can always just Ebay the games I have.

At minimum they should give you 1/3 of your total purchase... So if you bought 3 $60 dollar games for a total of $120... They should give you $40 credit for each game. This is what has happen to me in the past.

Also, the same should happen with gift receipts. There's a bar code on each gift receipt which shows how much the purchaser bought it for... The stores will not give you more than someone purchased it for, but they still should give you at least 1/3.

I took back Pure :ps3: that I bought as a placeholder on the first day of the B2G1F sale (Sunday the 12th) to my local store last night. I said I wanted to exchange it for something else because I got it as a gift and already had it, and presented the gift receipt. She took down my phone number (why does TRU do this? I gave them my home # when I bought games during the sale, but I always give my cell # when I exchange them) and she gave me $59.99 on a gift card. Proceeded to get Fallout 3 :ps3: after like 15 minutes because the stupid girl working didn't know where it was (it was located in the display case next to the other mature titles like MGS4 and COD4, away from where the normal PS3 games are). At first she told me they didn't have it even though earlier I had called and somebody else clearly said they did have it.

All in all, not much hassle. I still have two more placeholders in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Saint's Row 2. I plan to exchange one of them for LittleBigPlanet either later today or tomorrow (my store is finally getting LittleBigPlanet in tonight). The last placeholder will be either for Mirror's Edge (although I might pay full price and get the runner's bag from GS), or Call of Duty: World at War. I actually didn't have intentions of getting Fallout 3 last night, but felt like I had to get something. Really wanted LBP, but I'll just get it later on this week.

After spending $240 on 6 games during the sale, I plan to come out with the following :ps3: games at $40 a piece:

BUZZ! Quiz TV with Buzzers
Call of Duty: World at War
Fallout 3
LittleBigPlanet
NBA 2K9
SOCOM: Confrontation with Headset

Not too shabby. So far, only NBA 2K9 has been opened. Considering I'm also playing Castlevania: OoE, Kirby Superstar Ultra, and Rock Band 2: Special Edition, don't have any time when you throw work in (full-time, 40 hours a week). And Mirror's Edge out soon too? Won't be buying any games for a while after that.

IN SUMMARY, I exchanged Pure for $59.99 on a gift card via gift receipt and bought Fallout 3 , no problems at all.

^^^Well Personally I always assumed the sale was to clear out some old stock before the Holiday rush so I know I'm exploiting the system and I don't really get angered. Though some parent who wasn't exploiting the system and accidentally bought PS3 games when their kid has an Xbox 360 is going to be very surprised when they find out that for THIS SALE ONLY and without any real warning, exchanges won't be happening.

Anyway nah I didn't get gift receipts, hmm, I should have thought of that and specifically requested them. Ah well.

Ok here's the deal. I tried returning/exchanging a copy of BIA: Hell's Highway for Fallout 3 using a gift receipt but the manager told me that the gift receipts for all three games have a value of $0.00 on them. They are trying to crack down on people who have been taking advantage of this deal year in and year out. Anyhow, it appears that now you have to return all the games in order to exchange or return them. I showed him the actual sales receipt and he said he would do it just this one time. YAY

Next I hit up the TRU 5 min away and had no problem whatsoever exchanging Soul Calibur IV for Dead Space using a gift receipt (the only difference was that the associate scanned the game instead of punching in the receipt). So my take is that this new procedure is a MAJOR YMMV. Worst case scenario cause a scene and you'll get what you want.

It's always been YMMV. Some stores don't give a hoot, others have stuck-up, power-tripping managers who just want to make your life miserable. I know last Christmas an employee at my store said I had to return all 3 games to get a refund and I couldn't exchange them. This year, I just exchanged (last night) no problem. The Lady just made sure it wasnt opened.
There was also a guy just before me that said he was exchanging one of his b2g1 free games.
The only thing was that when they gave me my new reciept it only had the saints row 2 and fallout 3 on it.

Alright here is what happened. I went to the other TRU by my home and did the exchange no problems, well, no problems regarding to them letting me do an exchange, but I'll get to the problem later. One of the employees actually commented specifically to another how you have to do the exchange some special way since it is the B2G1 free, so I'd assume this store has been doing at least a few of these and are ok with it (79th and Cicero-ish IL if anyone is interested) and it wasn't just me getting lucky with a clerk who didn't know they weren't supposed to do it. Of course, maybe the other one has been doing it without manager approval, who knows.

What I DID have problems with, however, is finding a game I wanted on PS3. Bioshock... they didn't have it. Dead Space? Nope. LittleBigPlanet? Not on shelf. They had a sign saying it would arrive (yesterday) though so I asked the clerk and she went in back and came out with a nice clean copy straight from the packaging. All good, right?

Nope. It wasn't in their computers. So at first they were talking like they weren't going to be able to exchange it, and I was like IT SAYS ON THE SIGN IT IS AVAILABLE TODAY! Eventually (after seriously about a half hour of messing in the computers) they had to ring it up as a junk, so technically I don't have a receipt with "LittleBigPlanet" on it but whatever, I had the employee initial the receipt and such, hopefully won't have any problems.

I'm kind of holding off on exchanging my other game for awhile though, since there is nothing else I want out (that they carry anyhow) quite yet. The other one is the one that rang up as $0.00 though so there might be problems with that. Both the employees who helped me were super nice though, I think if I go back I'll make sure to get one of them to do my other exchange.

While TRU has a policy about IDing for M rated titles, it's up to the parents to take final responsibility for this.

I think he used that method as an excuse to insure a successful return. I.e., if they give you a hard time, take an underage person with you if it's a mature game you're attempting to return and claim they sold said M game to him, and use that as an argument to get away with returning the B2G1 game and exchanging it for another.

Got rejected for exchanges today even for placeholder games. In frustration, I just returned all 3.

I had no problems. Yesterday I went to a store and the girl just put the value on a giftcard after I said I wanted to exchange it. Today went to a different store and did the same. Guy working said to just go pick the game you want and come back. Did that and picked up LBP. Keeping Buzz quiz, using gift card for CoD WAW. I had separate gift reciepts for each of these games with just the 1 game on it.

They really put money on gift cards? I had them do that once a few years back but I thought they just messed up. Essentially you could actually make money off of them that way.

Not that I'd do that. I try not to be totally shady with deals.

I have done this twice in the past 2 weeks.

I simply got a gift receipts for both of my B2G1's with just the two games that showed up 59.99.

I then walked to the games section and asked for the 2 games I wanted, was told to bring all 4 games to the customer service counter, and then they exchanged it no questions or anything.

I did this on 2 occasions netting me 4 games from place holders.

Original Place holder- Exchange
Pure - Little Big Planet
Bourne Conspiracy- Saints row 2
Mercs 2- Dead space
Star Wars- NBA 2k9

I think returns may be hit or miss depending on your locations flow of sales, my store appears relatively slow.

ok question...so I swapped out one of my placeholders for Fallout 3 yesterday and they actually returned my original transaction and re rung up everything with Fallout instead of my original third game. My question is will my 45 days to return/exchange start from yesterday, or still the original purchase date? Would like to get Prince of Persia with this deal, but its a week after my original 45 days are up.

It should be 45 days from this new reciept. I would have just had the placeholders returned as a store credit card as those dont start to expire till after a year.

Has anyone's TRUs restocked with Dead Space for 360? I snagged a PS3 copy when I was told I could exchange it for the 360 version when they got it back in stock, but a few weeks later, still nothing. It's an M-rated game, so do they not restock on those very often? Hassle.

Ok, now I know this might be morally wrong to some of you, but it worked GREAT for me.

Number one, i'm a female so i had it easier going about this than most guys, but all you have to do is have your wife/girlfriend/mom/friend do this for you.

Write the games you want to exchange for on post it note or other slip of paper... send the woman into TRU with receipt, slip of paper, and games. Her story is as follows: she bought the games as a gift, she really thought she had bought the correct games, but she just doesn't know much about video games and ended up getting the wrong ones and her boyfriend/husband/dad actually wanted these other games... produce slip of paper.... girl must try her best to act like a stupid blond who is TOTALLY dissapoined that she ruined husband/boyfriend/dads birthday and she just wants to make it right... that's why she had him wright down on this slip of paper, so she wouldn't make a mistake again....

now i didn't need to milk it any further than that TRU accepted that i'm a woman who knows nothing about video games and just felt bad that hubby was mad at me and exchanged the games lickidy split... i walked out w/ fable 2 and fallout 3 without any problems.

I have done this route every time they have a sale like this and it has worked like a charm every time... there is something about acting like a clueless woman that makes these people just go ahead and do it... yes it is sex discrimination, but well might as well take advantage of it.

Returned my 2 placeholders ( Dead Space and Saints Row 2 for 360) and picked up Little Big Planet and also Fallout 3 for the 360. Went to customer service with a regular receipt and told her I wanted to make an even exchange for 2 other games.

She said try to get the 2 games from the game department and bring them to her. Which wasn't easy especially on a Saturday afternoon but one of the guys walked the games over with me to customer service and she did and even swap without a problem.

you didn't need to do all that. I usually just go in with a gift reciept and return the games, than go buys the ones I want. Just make sure the game your returning isn't the free one. One time I even returned mario galaxy and kept the 25 gift card. The employee didn't even want it back. They are usually cool about this stuff.

i have to figure out a way to exchange the free game, because i got Wii Mario Kart for a friend for X-Mas, just to find out the other day that decided she didn't want her Wii and returned it. i don't have a Wii, and don't know of anyone that either has a Wii or would want it for their Wii, and i would rather try to even exchange it for the full value instead of ebay it and get about $25 for it after all of the fee's/paypal/ect...

I was in the same boat as you. The clerk actually rang up the wrong game as the free one and I didnt realize it till I tried to return it and tried to argue my way into an exchange for about 10 minutes and they wouldnt do it. I contemplated Ebay, but would lose so much to their pricing. So I instead listed it on here and ended up getting for it the amount I paid at TRU. I would try that if I were you.

I was able to exchange all 3 games at Toys R Us...luckily the guy behind me at Customer Service had his receipt where he exchanged his free game earlier, and they rang it up as 1 penny. I got LBP, Fallout 3 (360), Dead Space (360) then exchanged the 2 360 games at another TRU for the PS3 versions. ^_^

Gonna get LBP tomorrow and COD:WaW in November! I love how there's a Best Buy in the location too for easy pennied guides!

or maybe they're tired of cheapskates who are trying to be slick and pull a fast one on a mgr who's seen it all by now.

man you guys really have to go through hell to save $20 on each game, which is essentially what you guys are doing with all these game swaps.

if only everyone stayed 2-3 months behind new releases, it's like B2G1 or better all the time!

I still say anyone that can't return the "free" game should just tell them that they should tell you upfront if they're changing their return policy. That way you knew what game to have rang up that way. Even then, I still think it's silly cause its not like they're gonna get rid of the game for free when you give it back.

Not everyone is willing to wait 2-3 months to play a new release. They want to play it when it's released. Hence $40 for a $60 title that just came out is worth it, if you don't have to make a hassle of it.

You are right in that it doesnt make much sense since it is basically exhanging a $60 game for another $60 game, but her reasoning was that the values were not equal in the system and she wouldnt approve it.

Don't see how we're pulling "fast ones" by exchanging games we paid for. If anyone is pulling the fast ones it's the managers who are adding fictitious terms to their policies such as games purchased during the B2G1 promo cannot be exchanged, the "system" won't let them, etc.

Return Policy
TRU's video game return policy is 45 days, unopened with a dated receipt or gift receipt. If the game is opened, it can only be exchanged with the same title. No exceptions.

Due to how the deal is rang up, the games that do not come up free can be returned or exchanged for it's full value. The game that rings up free cannot be returned or exchanged because it has no value, only if it is defective can it be exchanged for the same title. Make sure the free game is something you want, or you are pretty much boned.

if you read the policy it clearly states you cannot return the free game...

or maybe they're tired of cheapskates who are trying to be slick and pull a fast one on a mgr who's seen it all by now.

actually that policy is used when deals like this happens, its not on receipt since deals like this dont happen alot and why many people complain when they try to return a free item...

I plan to exchange my last placeholder of Saint's Row 2 :ps3: for Call of Duty: World at War :ps3:. Please note none of placeholder games were originally rung up as free. The other games I bought to keep were BUZZ! Quiz TV, NBA 2K9, and SOCOM: Confrontation with Headset. The last 2 were rung up as free.

Also purchased clearance titles of BUZZ! The Hollywood Quiz :ps2: , BUZZ! The Mega Quiz :ps2: , and Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions :psp: for $19.96 via B2G1F.

I say avoid that place. I was able to exchange Mercenaries 2 for Fallout 3 there, the on-duty supervisor said the same thing, but also said he would allow this exchange this one time only.

At first he said he wouldn't allow the exchange because they can't determine which game is the free one, but his own employee looked it up on the computer which showed that the game was paid for. Then he said I could only exchange it for games that were available during the sale only. Then the employee starting arguing with him saying "Since when?" His response "Since forever. "

I'm going to try my luck tomorrow with my last placeholder game for Gears of War 2 at the Fullerton, CA location.

I got hassled with the argument about "it has to be a game that came out with the deal" funny how the receipt doesn't make mention of such policy. I eventually got them to get World at War but they didn't give me the $15 giftcard even though my receipt show's that they made a giftcard.

Oh well as Left 4 Dead comes and Mirrors Edge come out I'm gonna take my only two remaining placeholders back.

I bought 3 games (Dead Space, Madden, Civ Rev) as placeholders during the B2G1 sale, being careful to ensure that the one I most wanted to keep was my "free" game. But went back to TRU last week and I was able to exchange all 3 for Fallout 3, COD:WAW and Gears 2.

I didn't have to say or do anything special or play dumb or anything--just brought in the 3 games with my gift receipt, said I wanted to exchange for newer games and she let me go get them. For some reason the manager made me pay 1 cent to exchange my "free" game, but that was fine by me--especially because I got a free $15 gift card with COD.
