1200 dollars seems a little high for a download game, but this is Tetris and it seems to have a quite a lot of meat to it compared to your average dl game.

Can't software be updated from the Wii Shop Channel? I think Starfox 64 was the only one that has been updated so far, but they could always patch some sort compatiblity for the Wii Speak in these WiiWare games.

Likelihood of Nintendo patching previously released games with WiiSpeak: :rofl: That means I don't think so. You gotta be pessimistic as a Nintendo fan or else you set yourself up for disappointment. :-(

I don't know, haven't done that yet. I think there's a separate FC like Brawl since I have no friends in Tetris Party right now.

Also, I think I'm going to finally get a Classic Controller cause I'd imagine it would feel more comfortable.

This tetris is worth the cash. Online works like a charm. I love how you can practice while you wait for players to come in.

My only gripe with this game so far is no GCN controller support. That is a no brainer.

I played this a little bit and I'm really liking it so far. Earlier today in online rankings without items I was 51st in the US and 350ish worldwide, though I'm sure I'm much lower now.

I like having a goal, and you are obviously very good.

I'm torn on the online on this, but I think ultimately I like it. I keep trying to compare it to Dr. Mario online, which isn't really fair. They're both fast to connect and find a match. I do wish the "message" options were a little easier to manage and I wish I could see another player's name and score before the match started. I'm still figuring out a strategy for scoring too - it looks like this is not weighted as much as Tetris DS or Dr. Mario as far as point loss/gain. As far as I can tell, if you are within a certain amount of points (500?) of the other player it is a straight 25 point gain/loss. If the gap is wider than that and you are higher, you get 22 points and the lower point loser only loses 17 (I think I recall), but if they win it's something like 37 points.

I read on neogaf that online it's 1vs1 without items, and up to 6 players with items. I can't confirm that yet since I haven't played with items yet.

I lied. I played for a few minutes last night.. but only the balance board mode cuz that's how I roll.

It's neat. There's DEF a learning curve to it, and it takes a bit of time to get used to it..but it's pretty neat for what it is. I appreciate that even at level 15 it doesn't get too fast..and the blocks don't automatically stick when they reach the bottom.. it gives SOME room to fix your mistake last minute in case you weren't spot on with your motions.. :lol:

I'm not sure - I finally tore myself away from online yesterday evening (got back up to #13 in the US, still behind Frank...) to try some of the other modes. The same thing happened as in the other 1,542 versions of Tetris I have purchased over the years - I got bored and wanted to play normal Tetris.

I should also probably try to play online with items - does anyone know if your overall online score is affected if you play items?

Balance Board was neat, but I don't know if I'll ever play it again. It controlled well, but the whole time I just kept wanting to play faster, which wasn't really possible with the board.
Shadow mode I don't quite understand yet. You have to fill in a shadowy shape, but not any of the area around it.
Maze mode (I forget what it's called) seemed utterly pointless to me. You navigate a singe Tetris piece through a scrolling maze but you're not penalized for hitting the walls and after a few levels I couldn't figure out if there was supposed to be any challenge at all.
Climber mode was kind of fun - you build stairs for a little man to climb to the top. He can climb up one level if you drop a block on him, but any more than that and you smash him and he dies.

wii skiier, I figured maze mode (or whatever...think it was called racer?) would be more fun in multiplayer. The single player does appeal to my personality-type, though (OCD perfectionist...must get fastest time possible!).

We played co-op last night. With 2 players, player 1 (me) had access to L-shaped, cube, and line tetriminos. My wife was only getting S-shaped (both versions) and line tetriminos (I think, I was mainly paying attention to my shapes). I imagine with 4 players, everyone get one shape plus the line tetrimino. It got extremely hectic as it got faster, especially when we both were trying to go for the same spot and did a hard drop. We were both shouting at each other the whole time..."We need an S on the left! I've got a line coming! No wait! Let me drop mine there, you go to that spot on the other side!" It was fun, but I have my doubts we'll ever hit 150 lines...

Yes. Found it by accident. In a regular game just point at the sensor bar with the Wii Remote and it turns to that. Turn it back to normal and control returns too. Wish there were some way to turn it off so I don't screw up like 5 lines from completing marathon mode.

Was playing online and got my ass handed to me. I have a great game in the beginning but something gets fucked up and I can never recover. :bomb: Once I played this guy, lost twice, went back to find a new opponent, and after about 3min the matchmaker sets me up with him again. :lol:

Gah. Just played my first two World Battles, both against the same guy. The first time I did extremely well against him and won. The second time, my kid comes in and starts trying to tell me 'hilarious' jokes (the kind that are only hilarious to 8yo kids and not to parents in the heat of battle) while I'm playing. Worst game of Tetris I ever played.

Just got done with 2-ish hours of World Battle. I got better the more I played (and the more wine I drank...which was interesting)...but, man, it was hard shaking off the cobwebs. It's been a while. That and I threw two more matches because the kids came in to talk to me again. Overall I had a net 100 points at the end, but I was knocked down -200 before I climbed back up.

Afterwards, I registered everyone from the list at the top of page 5.

1. Daisydog goes on a winning streak.

3. Stalemate occurs for several matches afterwards.

I think I jumped a few 100 pts today in my online score. I hate it when high-ranking players quit after losing their first match. They're too worried about maintaining their ranking. [-(

I've had that too. I wish there was some kind of penalty if there isn't one. I know in Tetris DS the quitter would lose some points for that.

I haven't touched this game in a while. I'm kinda regretting spending 1200 points on it, but oh well.

And everyone is still showing as registering. So I ended up playing some more world battles tonight. So far I'm at 5384 points (no items)...but it's been quite the Sisyphean task. I wish I could play more often...I've only been able to get in three sessions since I downloaded the game.

One thing about the wine-enhancement I mentioned earlier (I suppose beer would have the same effect...shall try next time!). Yes, it helps me to relax and get zoned...but there's a fine line between that and brain-hand-desync. I went a few steps past that line tonight and started making serious stupid mistakes that cost me. So I'm still working on determining where that line is and how I can hold myself there once I find it. Then there's the variables to consider: percent alcohol, quaffing rate, tortilla chip intake (acts as a buffer)...

It's all very scientific. This'll require more experimentation. And I'm out of wine, dammit.

Matching is pretty quick for wifi battles; usually 20-30 seconds at most, and you get to practice while you wait. I match this quickly even at 3am as long as I have my opponents set to worldwide.

Of course, I rarely have a problem getting a Dr. Mario match either, so maybe it has something to do with location/connection speed?

Edit: I decided to beat my 11 minutes 40 seconds score and I understand the mechanics better. I managed to get 6 minutes and 19 seconds (#11 atm). I think if I played this as much as round one I could definitely get it in the 5 minutes range, but it's not worth the time since I think this is good enough if I'm just aiming for the Wii Points.

You need to place in the top 1000 each round to get points for that round and top 500 for overall to get the Wii Points.

I'm #69 right now. I think I'm actually better at this than regular tetris. I didn't even place in the first round because I was out of town on vacation for basically all of it. I like it, though I wish the tournaments weren't all over. Not that I'd win, but it would be fun to play in them. Why not continue to hold tournaments even without prizes, just bragging rights?

But it's a good tetris game and online play works well. Also wish you could play the coop mode online though.

Also the items in battle mode are fun. You point with the remote at the player you want to inflict them on and one even has you shooting blocks into other player's matrices with the remote. Fun stuff. I also like the game mode where you try to get a little guy up to a goal by building steps up for him while not crushing him. If you trap him you have to free him up by completing lines. etc.

As mentioned before, I'm pretty good at Tetris... but far from mastering the game. There are still many people who clean the floor with me. Can't hurt to play a few matches, and if you don't find it worth playing I'm never offended if someone bails out.

This isn't my favorite Tetris game by any means, but it's very solid. There are many different modes to try playing (some better than others) and the online features are pretty good... so expect quite a bit of replay value if you are a Tetris fan. Co-op mode in particular is a lot of fun, as are the multiplayer options because my family all love competing against each other. It's too bad that there aren't going to be any other tournaments (even without Nintendo Point prizes) taking place in the future.

The $12 asking price was a steal for the amount of enjoyment it has provided so far, but I guess that depends on what other alternative you have for playing Tetris. If I still had The New Tetris on N64 then I would consider this game unnecessary.

Here is a manual that, along with the basics, tells you what each item does and how to use it. Especially fun is the "Block Shot": shoot blocks at your opponents. :)

I've added crunch and hero, but when I check the Search for a Friend option in Tetris Party tonight, it says they are both still registering... I'll be online for a bit longer, but if the registration doesn't go through by about 9:15 I'm probably going to bail.
