Oh man -- I do not appreciate this move by Nintendo..

At Nintendo’s Japanese press conference Nintendo announced Wii Points would now be called Nintendo Points since you can use them on the DSi store. DSi games will cost 200, 500 or 800 for premium titles. The above slide shows what the new cards will look like in Japan when they start circulating in November. Before you shove that 5,000 Nintendo Points card on to a spanking new DSi, take note points are fixed to a console. I’m sure the savvy Siliconera audience already predicted this since Nintendo doesn’t have an overarching account system to control digital distribution. Just as a precautionary warning the slide below confirms point cards cannot be used on a Wii and DSi. One card, one console.

Well, if I don't have one of those fancy DSi units then I'm just to going to buy those regular Wii points cards. No problem.

Well that's annoying..but, I guess it makes sense since you really don't have an account. It COULD have been a good reason to make people sign up and use their MyNintendo account..

Well, whatever.

You do really have an account. When my Wii came back after being repaired without my shop channel account linked to it I sent them an email and they had no problems linking my shop channel account to my new Wii. All I had to do was put in my account information after they relinked, and instead of making a new account my old account was restored.

If Nintendo wanted to they could link both accounts to a single master account.

When you buy a card, you redeem it. You can only redeem it on the Wii or the DS - makes sense, as today you can't say "I only want to redeem 1000 of my 2000 points on the Wii" leaving 1000 points left over.

I thought my Nintendo.com account was my overarching account. Also, I don't think it is that big of a deal since we will not see a DSi for a long time in the states (if ever).

It has been confirmed for a US release.

This doesn't make a lick of sense. Why can't Nintendo get one account to work for all of their systems? Is it that much more effort to do? Pure laziness on their part. Then again, it forces people to purchase more than one card if they want to download to both the DSi and the Wii. But what can you expect from a company that requires you to use "friend codes" to play over the net.
