It can not be worse than IW. It just can't.

I really hope it's good.

I must be in the minority but I really enjoyed IW... I mean it wasn't as good as the first game, but still really good on it's own.

I really hope Deus Ex 3 is gonna be awesome though.

Ya I hope it has the rpg elements like the first one rather than the crapfest elements like the second one.

I have a better idea: just get the fucking Shifter mod for Deus Ex and replay that game for the fifth time.

eh, I don't see any problems with it. It has a good art direction, interesting story concepts, and it sounds like the team wants to avoid IW's problems.

1: It's a prequel, and yet the biomods/augs seem way more advanced. Now, that's just based on the one example that they gave, but it's worrying. You might say, "So what?" but I like my Deus Ex plots good, thank you very much.
2: Auto-heal.
3: Still no skills. Guess improving your marksmanship ain't as sexy a bungee-jumpining back-tentacle. Pretty fucking hard to make an FPS-RPG when you've ripped out the RPG.

On the plus side, the art direction looks pretty fuckin' good. Oh, and none of that universal ammo business. I can support that.

Thanks man, I never heard of that mod but it looks pretty cool, I'm downloading it now. I fucking loved the first game.

As long as they dumb down the game with crap like auto heal and the removal of skills, I don't see how it can capture the spirit of the original.

Gamers these days are pansies, if I can use my curmudgeon quota for the day :)

So what exactly is the shifter mod and not to tread crap, anyone have the install disc fro the original they would let me borrow? All I have is the play disc.

The Crotch

1: Isn't there only one disc? I'll check that later.
2: One of the main aims of Shifter is to make everything more useful. Crowbars, for example, were originally useless - bigger than knives, but no more damage. So they've been buffed, along with a number of Augs. Hell, even pepper spray and flare darts are worth using now. Throwing knives are more common. Some weapons have alternate modes of fire (Remember how much of a pain in the ass switching between bullets and grenades was with the SMG?) Melee weapons are stackable can be thrown, albeit not as well as throwing knives. You get EXP for neutralizing enemies without getting detected and/or getting headshots. There are unique weapons (probably the best thing IW did) scattered across the game. An' a whole bunch more stuff.

Oh, and you get can get a skull gun.

You were right Crotch, one disk, and I'm installing the game as we speak, so anyone remember what else game with the GOTY edition?

Any of the other mods any good for number 1?

Not even out yet but it should be good. I just know of it because a friend of mine made some music for it.

As far as Deus Ex 3 goes I agree with The Crotch. Those three points you brought up, especially 2 and 3, could pretty much automatically make this one worse than the first. Oh well I'm still looking forward to it.

I didn't really want to comment on this game until I got a chance to read the whole article. But I smell another watered-down, consolized Deus Ex. Sure, Eidos knows about the problems with DX2 (universal ammo, lack of character development), but they aren't making it better by replacing them with more problems (rebounding health, non-immersive cover system).

For some reason I just couldn't get into the first Deus Ex game. I still have a copy somewhere, maybe I'll install it and try again before part 3 comes out.

They had better not use the same texturing sytem and tiny level design from DE2. Man that was disappointing when every single "exotic" environment looked identical to the last...narrow little streets, no sense of scale or uniqueness, and that "earth-tone" look which was cool at the start of the game but made me want to puke by the end.

It came with the soundtrack.

Deus Ex is tied with Ocarina of Time for my favorite single-player game of all-time. I SO want this new game to be good but I am fearing the worst. PLEASE EIDOS MAKE THIS AWESOME!!!!

It looks pretty cool. I am not gonna judge it just yet, I will wait a couple months for that.

I liked IW, it was a good game. It just wasn't Dues Ex.

The original was amazing.

I refuse to play IW. I'm hopeful they'll get #3 right.

And for #1:
I feel bad about it, but I never finished it.

I couldn't play for about 2 weeks and I was on some giant ship/cruiseliner and I was lost.

I think you got kidnapped or had to sneak aboard this ship? Anyway, still one of the best FPSes I've ever played.

.... Looks like I'm reinstalling Deus Ex again. Looks like I have to dig for it T_T

Wonder if I should get it on console (ps2) and play it on the big screen?

No. The PS2 version was ghetto.

Uh oh...

Deus Ex 3 May Not Hit Consoles, Developer Claims Original Wasn't Exciting Enough (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/55483)

Dugas further commented that "for us, console-isation isn't about dumbing down features," mirroring BioWare's approach towards bringing its PC RPG Dragon Age to consoles, and added his belief that Ion Storm's original Deus Ex was "kind of slow."

"There weren't enough exciting, memorable moments [in the original]," Dugas explained." It was aimed more towards a simulation rather than a game experience."

I won't try to take that out of context, but I'm a bit uneasy about those remarks...

AND THAT'S WHY WE ALL LOVED THE FIRST ONE, DUGAS!

I really, really hope DE3 is worth playing, but I'd rather a sequel not be made if it's going to bastardize the franchise (ever more).

I'm also in this minority. But I'm in the even smaller minority who thought Deus Ex 2 was better than Deus Ex 1.

I just heard about Deus Ex 3 today, and I hope it's even further in the Deus Ex: Invisible War direction. I particularly liked not having to run around each map, obsessively collecting experience on random crap. That took so much time, and was not fun. Totally broke immersion. So much more immersive for me to play it as a FPS with interactivity.

The only problems with Deus Ex 2 over Deus Ex 1 were the smaller map size and a tad fewer actions/combinations you could perform. It was a far better game, overall, imo.

Anyway, as for Deus Ex 3 -- cannot freaking wait, regardless of what direction they take it. I've seen both ends of the spectrum, and neither was intolerable.

Also, try Shifter. EXP is given out for stealth takedowns, headshots, etc.
