Title: Orbient
Players: 1
Genre: Action
Price: 600 points
Developer: Nintendo

Apparently this is a remake of the Bit Generations game, Orbient, that came out late in the GBA's life in Japan. Thanks to Wiiware us Americans can finally experience the magic.

8.5/10 IGN (http://www.gamerankings.com/itemrankings/launchreview.asp?reviewid=968140)
Orbient is exactly the kind of game that I want out of WiiWare: high concept, experimental games at an affordable price. And the fact that the experiment is a huge success just seals the deal: for six bucks you get one of the most clever, engaging games to never hit the US Game Boy Advance. You've never played anything like Orbient, and hopefully this trend will continue with future Art Style games from Nintendo.Title:

I got 3 bit generations games during Play-Asia's last sale. Orbital was not among them. (Coloris, Digidrive and Boundish for those keeping score at home.)

I picked up Orbient with high expectations and it certainly delivered. I'm so glad that these games are making their way over here. The covert release (did anyone know about this Art Style initiative?) is sort of what's great about Nintendo. This release was a Christmas in July situation, a very pleasant surprise, but also frustrating because the sales could maybe be higher with some actual promotion.

In any case, the following article suggests two more Art Style releases in October alone. I hope they eventually all come over and new entries are made in the series. http://gonintendo.com/?p=57598

Any guesses as to what the next two are? I haven't played Soundvoyager, but it sounds really cool (pun not intended). I doubt it'll translate well to WW though. Maybe they can toy around with the wiimote speakers and you use two motes at once? Again, I don't have any experience with the game.

See I bought into a few of the artsy PSN game and didnt like them (I wish the names were not escaping me right now, the organism one, etc).

This looks interesting though.

Are you talking about fLow (or however they trademarked that)? I enjoyed it, but the sixaxis controls were a little . . . ehhhhhhhh.

lol... ign used the term "high concept" incorrectly. that term being paired with "experimental" is hilarious.

film studies, ftw!

I purchased this, it is fun, and unlike anything I'd played. Would be a great tool for a high school science class.

It crashed/hung once, but since it saves after every level, it wasn't a big deal. About 20 levels in and the challenge hasn't gotten frustratingly hard yet.

I "beat" this last night, or at least the main part of the game. Very sad of course when I reached the ending credits and realized I had just played the last level.

Of course, there's extra levels once you beat the game, I think I missed 4-5 moons while playing through the main levels. Overall, its a fantastic game and I look forward to seeing the other bit generations ports on WiiWare.

Flow is it... barely played, maybe I need to give it more time.

Check out Cubello.

I kinda wish they combined these games and released them as disks, or as a big wiiware title. Maybe they're doing this to get more money, or maybe it's the fact that wii has only 512mb in it, or both. Regardless, cool stuff.

Why? 600 points per game is a pretty good value if you ask me. I've already spent several hours and still some in Orbital, and I imagine I'll probably do the same for Cubello. I don't mind games not being bundled together when they're very affordable otherwise.

You're probably right, I actually have yet to play either of the games to tell you the truth!

Orbient is neat, but Cubello is just awesome. It's really amazing how you can lay on your sofa and SLOTH HARDCORE..and still play this game and be heavily into it.

This is what WiiWare should be more like: Simple, cheap, and low on blocks (47!)

LOL -- I had a Wii party a few weeks ago and everyone was all ga-ga about how you are active and move around with all the games (some of the bigger dudes were actually sweating!)....

Cubello is one of my favorite Wii games cause i can have a beer in one hand, shoot blocks with the other and be extremely inactive -- even better than playing Hot Shots Golf with the one hand controller on the PS1 (and a beer in the other!)

but this is game studies, where you can say whatever cool sounding stuff you want without worrying about what they actually mean. :whee:

anyway, will be buying Cubello when I rebuy the wii at some point.
