I wanna put it on CL, absolutely no idea what to ask for it.

It's an Averatec 3350, 12" screen, 4lbs, 80gb hard drive, 512mb ram, Pentium M (about 1.7ghz i think), windows XP... but it doesn't work. Also, it's in a bunch of pieces.

My roommate broke the plastic piece where the AC adapter connects... everything else is in working order, there's just no way to get power to it (unless you charge the battery elsewhere). I took it apart in an attempt to fix it, but I don't know how.

Everything else is in working order -- hard drive, ram, DVD burner, screen, keyboard, etc. Also, perhaps someone more knowledgeable than myself could fix the above piece pretty easily. Also, it comes with an AC adapter that I just paid $70 (roommate broke the original one of those, too). How much could I get for this?

If it still works (IE charge the battery elsewhere, laptop powers on), then it's just the AC jack that needs to be replaced. The part is $10-$25 + someone's skill and time in soldering. You could get that done for about $100 if you send it out somewhere.

Otherwise you could probably get about $100-$150 for it. If it was repaired you could fetch anywhere from $200-$300 probably.

I think $100 for a broken laptop might be reasonable to those who know how to fix it.

Does your roommate say Hulk Smash everytime he plugs the power into your laptop?

It's a she and she's a dumb bitch that doesn't understand you can't rest laptops on the power cord. Like, she'll put the laptop on her lap with the cord hanging down or being pushed up, there's always shear force on the plug. I've told her repeatedly not to but she doesn't listen.

Anyway yeah, BigPopov, that's what I thought too.. I can't find the piece anywhere though. I'm pretty decent at soldering but I just can't fund any piece (or much of any parts for this model). I thought maybe I could solder the piece itself to fix it, that's why I opened it, but no connection I make seems to cause it to power. The laptop itself definitely functions when it has power (my sister has the same model laptop, I used her charged battery on my laptop and it worked fine).

I think I'll start a 7-day auction on ebay for about $80... a little below the $100 you suggest just to ensure a sale.

Check out laptopjacks.com they generally have everything for jack replacements. If you're unsure of the exact plug needed you can email them they are good at replying. That's who we got our jacks from the last tech shop I was in.

I think you need,

http://www.laptopjacks.com/view_part/Averatec-Laptop-DC-Power-Jack-AV41225.html

It says "3300 (e1200)", is the 3350 part is the "3300" series? (all HPs have a "series" so even if the exact model isn't listed if it's in the same number series it works) If so that will work. Measure the center pin diameter, this one says it's 2.5mm, and email them to make sure.

The only thing that might be a problem is if the breaking of the jack broke some piece of the motherboard (some boards have a seperate card which gets the power, which can be replaced, if it's all one piece you're screwed.) It might be worth the $9 to try to fix it first unless you're looking for a reason to get a new laptop, heh

I actually just bought a new laptop about 30 minutes ago, haha.

I'm about 99% sure that's the right part, though. Thanks! I tried Googling a lot of different things and wasn't getting the right results so I just gave up. I really appreciate it. My only real concern now is being able to remove the entire motherboard, so that I can solder it without burning the plastic... I've learned through this that disassembling laptops is a pain in the ass. Dozens and dozens of screws, everything interconnected... actually disassembly's not too bad, reassembly's gonna be the problem, remembering where all those screws went...

Anyway, yeah, thanks, I'm going to order it and give it a shot.

That's my biggest problem too is the reassembly.

Some laptops make it relatively easy, only using 1 or 2 screw types. But stuff like Apple laptops use 20 or so different screws. Fuck that
