Apparently, Beat'N Groovy is a clone of Konami's own Pop'N Music. Does this make it the first international release of the series?
It also plays a lot like DJ Max, which is a very strong seller on the PSP, I believe.
During a point card sale, I'd actually like to get this and Go! Go! at the same time... This game seems pretty simple, but I like this kinda music, it SOUNDS like the definition of "real" music games for me; The music games that where coming out in japan, and would creep into your local arcades and be mentioned online, before Guitar Hero / Rock Band made it all mainstream.
It's not utterly fantastic, and it does have a learning curve (3 button mode makes no sense till you see that it's just pulled out of the real 5 button mode... then you can understand the controls more) but what's there seems tested and true. Yet I like having this and Tenchu come out during Tokyo Game show ^_^ Both these games perfectly display the strengths, and weaknesses, of Japanese game development now-a-days.

I'd never heard of this before today, but it sounds interesting. I'll have to check it out.

It might be fun to play with a guitar controller...or drums.

Whoa what a surprise, it is a Pop N Music clone. Without the peripheral it does make it play like a simplified DJ Max. This isn't no crap puzzle game hidden behind a couple on screen timed buttons like Go Go Break Steady. That was barely about the music.
I like the demo but not pulling the trigger yet. I only count 9 songs on the menu and I don't see variable difficulties. I need a bit more info before I'll plop down $10. I wish they'd use the shoulder buttons, it feels more natural.

That's how the game is. Now you see how badly nerfed it is. (By the way, this player is choosing to play with their fingertips. The game is typically played with your palms or fingers [like you're "spanking" the buttons]).
That shows the peripheral. Now for something familiar:

Someone in Konami's music game division is seriously screwing up Americanization of stuff. The only decent U.S. Bemani out right now are the Wii and 360 DDR games.

pretty cool, I might end up picking this one up. The mode with the camera is interesting if you ever dug Samba De Amigo, I hope they release some song packs though, only 9 songs is a bit paltry.

Meh. Not worth it. It's probably good for huge rhythm game/J-Pop fans though.

I can't believe I overlooked this thread. Pop'n is an amazing game. I used to spend a lot of my lunch breaks at the arcade glued to it. The controller is a bit frusturating to start, but overall I am thrilled Konami released this. If anyone wants to play, add me. I'm having a hard time finding ranked matches.

pnm was cool 4 years ago. too little too late imo. with the pnm controller its yet another simple rhythm game. :/
I got the game and like it and hope it succeeds. However, it falls into the same trap that the localization of beatmania did. I caters way too much to the casual crowd to try to attract them that it alienates the hardcore crowd that is more likely to purchase it.

With all the excess MSN Auto points, I picked it up. Apparently theres a 7 button mode unlockable but I haven't got it yet. I think you have to beat Endless mode. I only got it cause I'm a rhythm whore and all the free points, definitely not worth $10 unless you are desperate for faux Pop n music.

Has anyone tried the camera controlled mode yet? How is it?

Its not bad honestly. Its not something I would play a lot of but its fun for a few minutes. Also makes the game a lot easier

Feels like playing DDR or Guitar Hero with a normal controller, which is a waste of time.

ditto. I 'S' rated everything on 5key in the first hour of play. for 10bucks its definitely not worth it. its it was a freepoint purchase i dont feel that bad. there isn't many songs. Endless mode is the onlything fun about the game imo.
note : konami code works on main screen "it uses LT LB A RB and RT for the buttons instead of the regular ones" -x360a
Still no idea on unlocking 7key. I hope they dont piecemeal this game with more songs and unlocking 7key down the road. If so im gonna flip out :whee:

If it were an actual game with the pop'n peripheral, it'd be unique in that it does not match any instrument whatsoever.

I'd love a real pop'n controller. I have the old playstation one, it's pretty sorry.. it's really small, the keys aren't spring loaded, and often stick.

they sell an PnM ASC but costs a ton, if i remember they go for 300-400. a friend of mine picked one up like 4-5 years ago. the asc does the job very well, that being said its still way too much for 1 game. waiting for the hardcore bemani games like pnm & iidx to jump over to the next gen consoles w/ some decent controllers.

You'd very likely see it on the Wii and only the Wii because:
1. Bemani games are not graphics or processor intensive.
2. Konami's still making music-rhythm games on the PS2. The PS2 is the cheapest right now. What else is the cheapest? Well, it WOULD be the 360 right now but the Wii's not much pricier.
3. As usual, companies would develop for the console with the highest userbase.
