Reports say Nintendo doesn't care about gamers, is making record profits off of baby seal eyes and monkey paw ash trays. Is there no limit to the evil that is Nintendo?

I wish I could, but I don't speak Canadian. Actually, mine has always been NAT 2 and never had problems with it. I am not even sure what that means or what it does. Is it wired or wireless?

Thanks. NAT1/NAT2/NAT3 is for the PS3. Open/Moderate/Strict is for 360. I have STRICT :( :(
I don't get it, I'm pretty sure I forwarded all the ports and everything. Maybe I'm doing it in the wrong spot.

Hes such a beautiful man. Why don't you love him Jesus?
Azu- go into your router settings and put the PS3 in demilitarized zone. That might help. Its not like anyone is going to connect to your PS3 directly from the internet and steal your game saves.

DMZ
Any PC whose port is being forwarded must have its DHCP
client function disabled and should have a new static IP
address assigned to it because its IP address may change
when using the DHCP function.
Enabled/Disabled
To disable DMZ hosting, select
Disabled
. To expose one PC, select Enabled. Then
configure the following settings:
Source IP Address
If you want any IP address to be the
source, select
Any IP Address. If you want to specify an IP
address or range of IP addresses as the designated source,
select and complete the IP address range fields.
Destination
If you want to specify the DMZ host by IP
address, select
IP Address and enter the IP address in
the field provided. If you want to specify the DMZ host
by MAC address, select
MAC Address and enter the MAC
address in the field provided. To retrieve this information,
click DHCP Client Table.
Yarr, that should help your PS3 or 360 depending on who you decide to set it up for. I know the ports you needed to open for the PS3 are on sony's site.
EDIT: I just realized you may not know how to access your router. Type in 192.168.1.1 into your browser and then enter your username and pass if it requires one.

I wouldn't. I don't like the 360, but I can hardly turn down a console version of a game.
The game's been built from the ground up for the DS. It looks and runs flawlessly with absolutely no slowdown. It's absolutely amazing on the DS. Why wait and get it on XBLA when we've already had Metal Slug 3 ported to it, with terrible slowdown, to the point it makes some areas in the game almost unplayable? For what? The sake of achievements?

For the reason that they're planning to add stuff to it? And that a TV and real controller is inherently a better way to play a Metal Slug game?

What did they add to MS3 on the arcade? I fail to see why playing it on the DS is bad, the game has no control issues, or let alone issues of anything else. I'd rather play the game with a D-pad, which the DS's is infinitely better than the 360's.
Chacrana
10-08-2008, 11:48 PM
I was talking about MS7 getting new stuff. I don't care about how badly they fucked up Metal Slug 3, but to get the facts straight, the original arcade version of MS3 had mad slowdown from time to time, too.
and I just don't like the crappy screen on the DS, and would much rather play with an arcade stick or something, though that second thing is subjective.

Finished Braid. Well made game, but not really my cup of tea. Many of the puzzles were obtuse and I'd wouldn't have figured them out without looking up the solution online. Great art design and music. Story could have been less abstract as well. I'd probably give it an 8.0/10.

From how the announcement sounded, it seemed like it's just going to be a straight port. And while yes, MS3 is prone to slowdown, I don't remember anything from the arcade being as bad as the 360's.

That's what I'd want more than anything. NMH was just so ugly at times. I really, really liked the game, but it wouldn't hurt if it was pretty this time.
No More Heroes was an awesome graphic novel packaged in a terrible Wii game. I hope the sequel can correct some of the issues I had with the game--maybe Grasshopper should just ditch the whole fake open world/GTA BS and the pointless minigames altogether and concentrate on improving the overall "level" designs and game structure. I also hope they are able to use the Wiimotion add-on.

I'm happy she doesn't have a high pitched japanese chick voice and sounds pretty evil/sadistic. The action looks suitably insane and fast paced. They didn't try to make it appeal to everyone, which is nice...I really don't care if the game draws in people who don't like DMC/NG--I want it over the top and beyond questionable taste. overall, I'm just glad to get a new non-NG or DMC hardcore action game after the sequels for those games let me down.

See RR's comment below:

Basically, there was no "open world". Just a lame, time-consuming way to do a UI for the next mission/minigame. A true open-world would've been pretty awesome, killing random by-standers with the beam katana would've been cool.
But none of my complaints would prevent me from giving the sequel a chance. As Rei said, I gotta play it to make a real judgment on it.
Same for Bayonetta. Both those games look awesome, but if they aren't fun for me, then I'll skip 'em.

So Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon has six difficulty settings - How bizarre. Offhand I'd say that its the most I've seen in a console game outside of an Elder Scrolls grade slider.
The very last setting should be a joke. Like it tells you that they tested it and determined that it wasnt actually possible to beat the game. Might as well also cater to the extreme speed/score runner demographic.

Feeling quite a bit better today.
I put in a couple more hours on Xenosaga 2. I've managed to get used to the new menus, leveling up skills and stuff, and finally figured out the combat, so now I'm in a nice groove and I'm moving along at a good pace. Hopefully I can get it finished within a few weeks.
I also played a little more Disgaea 3. I really like the game and all, the story, characters, combat, etc..... but I'm just not feeling motivated very much to play another strategy RPG right now. I think I'm gonna backlog it for awhile and come back to it later.

I think I like what Nintendo is doing recently. Announce nothing until it's a few months from being out. Sure, it makes the message board kids assume they're only going to make Wii Brain Fit Training from here on out, but it makes the anticipation and the subsequent delays in a lengthy production schedule much less painful.

And it's visual style? It's far more interesting than the overly-busy and wrongly-proportioned 7 & 8.

Yep, sans family here as I'm not married yet. I just have no patience for hard games, skill based games etc. Though honestly I've not liked them since the NES era when I was even younger and had to play whatever my parents bought me.
I like games I can get through pretty easily (has to be some challenge of course) as I just like to play to unwind and relax a few hours a week. Hard games just piss me off and defeat that purpose.

But nonetheless, I will beat it someday. I've never been one of those chaps who has to beat the game within days of buying it, so I just take my time with it and when it starts to frustrate me, I just walk away and come back to it another time. No worries.

If it's long enough, feels distinctly different than Halo 3, and is priced less than $60, it'll be awesome.

You may well be right, but I'll back my opinion up with this. I already see a lot of people with the ability to download movies. I have the ability through cable to get stuff on-demand, I also have the option of using the Live Marketplace (but not as many people in the world have Live so we can discount that)
My Parents in the UK already rent a lot of movies via digital download throught their free view box, and that doesn't even require a monthly subscription (like cable, or SKY as most people in the UK have).
When they turn off the analogue signal off in the UK and US everyone will have to have digital TV, and that means one of the fundamental cornerstones for digital distribuition will be in place.
I could be way off though, thats just my opinion.

What's the point? Is it fun pushing a block through a level to hear a piano track? I'll just play the MP3 if I want to hear it. And I'll probably read my email or browse the internet or play a real game, all of which are a hell of a lot more fun.
Those music levels are okay, cool.. but you could have just done that on a piano. Most of the platforming levels end up feeling very similar, too.
Yes. This. This is why the beta is pissing me off. It's showing the inherent flaw in the gameplay design. In order to let people be creative and make levels that look like what they want, they oversimplified core game play elements... sure, the calculator was neat, sure the tetris concept was neat, but now what? if I want a calculator, i'm not turning on LBP to use one. if I want tetris, I'll play the actual game. if I want music, I'll listen to the mp3. and if I want fun platforming, I don't think I'll be getting it from LBP at this point. in a sense, the game seems, now, like a glorified level editor, where all the focus is on creating something cool looking rather than the gameplay being fun and interesting. to me, it's like the custom paintjobs in Forza 2. Sure, you spent 12 hours making an awesome looking paint job. That's neat. But does it make my racing game any more fun to play? Not really... so now what?
There might not be one, DVD will probably hang on long enough until digital distrubution of movies kill physical discs completely.
I certainly do, people aren't gonna pay $30 for movies and digital distrubution will take over before Blu-ray can get a decent hold in the market.
Digitial distribution sucks ass and there's no way it becomes prevalent in the near future. Yes, storage is cheap, and yes, internets are fast. But not everybody has fast internet. Not everyone has a 1TB storage drive for their PC. Hell, there may even be people without PCs still. I know my parents didn't have one until I gave them one. And they still have dialup because it's the only thing available to them. Factor in bandwidth caps by some ISPs and other mitigating factors (I never pay $30 for a movie, but if I'm going to buy a movie, I'd rather spend $5 more to have physical media with artwork and everything that should accompany it).

You seem to be looking at this from an entirely buying movies point of view (please correct me if I'm wrong). If you're only renting a film then you don't need huge amounts of storage. You also don't need a PC, most people will be able to do it with whatever cable/satellite equipment they'll need when the analogue system gets switched off.
Lack of broadband is a factor at the moment, but I can only see internet connections getting faster, I mean look what speeds we had 5 years ago compared to what we have now. I would also suggest that if someone doesn't have a decent internet connection now, and the reason is monetary then I doubt they'll be buying many Blu-Ray discs.
Another factor I suspect DD has in it's favour is industry support. I'm guessing the movie industry likes DD as it's probably easier to prevent piracy and it's a way of having movies available to buy 27-7, and the retailer cut is probably a lot smaller to.

Buying vs Renting? I suppose if we're talking renting, your case seems more sound, but still -- I have broadband (it's slow as hell though) and I had netflix and I can tell you the number of movies we watched that weren't sent to us from the queue: 0. My connection speed, unless it hits T1-T3 speeds, and my router/cable modem happen to be sitting right by my DVR cable box, it'll never happen for me. Granted, the digital distribution for netflix means you have to watch on your PC/laptop instead of your TV, unless you have great streaming set up to a 360 or PS3 -- or have one of those boxes that does it for you. As for paying the cable company to rent my movies? I can't justify it. Netflix/Blockbuster just seems more cost effective to me.
You might be right. But I just don't see it. Then again, I'm not all about half the things these crazy kids are into these days. :oldman:

Yay another debate! Reasons why DD won't take off for a long time:
Strict DRM - Average Joe fuckface downloads the movie, deletes it because he needs space then tryies to redownload it later when a friend comes over. Oops! Can't do that!
Bandwidth caps - I'm looking at you Comcast.
Not everyone has high speed internet - I still know friends who only have a choice between 56k and satellite internet. Don't even try to say they can use satellite for high speed. If you download over 100MB per hour then you get cut to lower than 56k speeds. I know this personally from experience.
Balls - DD of movies lately is balls.

nintendo builds a product that is ensured that it will not break easily like the 360. 360 has severe damages like that red ring of death. sony use to have cheap parts, like the ps1 with the plastic lens parts or the ps2 with parts that fused out.
nintendo builds a system that is cost effective for the consumer. they are not going to put things where it's expensive now but cheaper later. they think about the consumer. look at the reason why motion plus wasn't included during release. it shows that they were thinking about saving consumers pockets and coming back later to enhance the product once it becomes cheaper. you don't see this with ps3/360. sony through that blu-ray player and it cost the console mass amounts of cost. they should have stuck with dvd and come back when it got cheaper. where is the idea where consumer comes first?!

So, Sonic and the Secret Rings was a lot of fun on the Wii. Flawed, but fun. I was looking forward to their second outing in that series to see if they'd fix things. Now they've given Sonic a sword. *sigh*
As of today, I'm just putting my Genesis Sonic games on a shelf with Sonic Rush and pretending like that's the sum-total of Sonic games that were ever made. Should've done it years ago I suppose, but better late than never.

Nintendo could of done what MS and Sony did and sell the console at a loss but make it up in accessories and software. They sure as hell could of made it up with accessories, look at all the crap that's out there for it. As for software, well, people buy it I guess. If they were so concerned about price, selling it at a loss would of been a good idea in the first place.

why would you want to sell something at a loss when your only income is coming from one thing that you produce? for sony and microsoft they can take the loss [sony music/ movies and microsoft with pc software] as they have other resources to back them up. but when you don't have other resources, how do you do that? remember that sony has lost all their money earned from the ps2, so now all the fundings for ps3 is from money they earn from movies and music and whatever else they have.
businesses are to earn profits, not lose profits and earn them again through a slow process. this business model doesn't work because you have sony's loses to back that up.

why would you want to sell something at a loss when your only income is coming from one thing that you produce?
Because once you put the product in a home and have a user, your software and accessories drive your profit. Game companies have always sold the hardware at a loss initially, as the technology is new and it takes awhile for them to refine the process enough to achieve economies of scale.
However, this does not apply to nintendo in this generation. The Wii really *is* a slightly upgraded gamecube, so nintendo already had economies of scale established (remember, the wii's controller was originally planned as a gamecube accessory).
It'd be interesting to see how much of a bath Nintendo took on the Gamecube and how much the GBA/DS success funded the development of the gamecube motion accessory as it's own console.

Ninetndo has always been against the loss leader strategy. Its not an exception they are making this generation. The only time they sold the Gamecube at a loss was for one quarter during the drop to $99, I believe.

1)that is the assumption that if your console is chosen out of the three. if it was only a single console then yes, that would not be a problem but having to compete with two other companies isn't a good thing.
2)i believe nintendo is the only company that sells a hardware without a loss for all generation, not only for this generation.
3)it's true that the wii is a better version of the wii. but it was for backward compatability. remember xbox and xbox 360? what happened when they changed companies. the backwards compatability of the wii is one of the important parts of nintendo's business models.

the real joke about megaman 9 lies on the graphics. the "hardcore" always rants about the graphics. yet megaman 9 isn't heavy on the graphics. it contradicts the "hardcore" motto.
this backs up nintendo's reasons about graphics, that it's become a commodity. look at dx9 and dx10, you can tell the difference if you stop and look at the games environments and such. but while playing a game you will barely notice a difference.

They changed everything though, which is why the 360 does BC via software with updates. Wii does BC via hardware, like the PS3 did originally, doesn't it? That's why, save for a few games with specialized controllers (GH2), BC was pretty much flawless between PS2 and 20/60gb PS3 models.

There might not be one, DVD will probably hang on long enough until digital distrubution of movies kill physical discs completely.
I certainly do, people aren't gonna pay $30 for movies and digital distrubution will take over before Blu-ray can get a decent hold in the market.
Yeah, I don't own any Blu-Rays because they're too damned expensive.
DVD is just fine. I'll take a $15 DVD over a $20-30-40 Blu Ray anyday.
I pretty much agree with these. I don't think Blu Ray will die off, but it's not going to remotely supplant DVD as the dominant format. It's just too damn expensive when it just offers better A/V quality (DVDs offered extras, no rewinding, instant scene access etc. over VHS). I can't believe Blu Ray discs are still so expensive vs. DVD.
I have an HDTV and only watch HD programming other than some sports that aren't in HD, but DVD is fine with me. I'm not paying a premium to watch movies in HD as upconverted DVDs look fine to me. When Blu Ray players are $150 or less for decent ones I'll pick one up and at least use it with my Netflix rentals. Discs have to get to around current DVD prices ($15-20 new, with lots of sales after the first few months) for me to start buying movies on BR though.

Mystery solved gang.
Not exactly -- the rest of the games I mentioned didn't look anywhere near as bad as DMC3. I haven't popped Odin Sphere in yet, but I anticipate no problems there either, and Okami looked fine too.

Disgaea DS=awesome.
Is it bad if the first thing I thought of when I woke up this morning was, "can I get a game of NBA2K09 in before work"? I wish b-ball season would start already so I can check out how the Living Rosters work. :p
Gun, Is That Bayonetta?
Sure is.
Or the latest Sarah Palin-themed porno, depending on your preference.

2D games all look pretty clean upscaled. Okami's style also lends itself to looking good upscaled. A plain 3D game like DMC3 will show some jaggies and stuff....but the game looks fine on an SDTV. It's not an overly jaggy game.
Has Platinum Games Ever Done Anything Awesome? They Dont Sound Familiar.

Platinum Games is new on the block. When Capcom dissolved Clover, they formed Seeds, Inc, which is now Platinum Games.

Disgaea DS=awesome.
It's an ok port from what I have played. Which sadly wasn't that much... I burnt myself out on SRPGs playing Disgaea 3 when my 360 died.

I need to get Disgaea 3 one of these days.
Playing KoF again today. Still having a ton of fun, but still wanting a stick badly.

Wow. Just played the Valkyria Chronicles demo. It is awesome and I want this game now. What a great new take on the whole turn-based tactical RPG. Its on the European PSN now, btw, so you'll have to use a European account if you wanna try it out yourself. If you're a fan of the genre, I would recommend giving it a spin.

Three day weekend this weekend (that sounded redundant), so I'z at home, and that means no Witcher.
But that's okay! Because my Dreamcast game got here and wasn't even mangled or nothin'. I would take a picture, but I'm lazy, so I'll just say it: It's Border Down. Hell yeah. It was expensive, but I felt like I got a deal, given what it usually goes for new. So yeah. Gonna play that tonight, tho I gotta schedule around The Office.
Also kinda wanna try out Dino Crisis... or Mars Matrix. But definitely Border Down tonight.

God dammit I knew I'd miss those fucking Press kits.
Played like 2 seconds of warhead since I have sound. It's okay I guess, doesn't seem that special.
Probably some Burnout in a bit. Might open rhapsody. How much less will it be worth when I open it and play it for 5 seconds to find out I hate it/

I'm at my Aunt's house and they have a shit load of DVD's so I've been ripping movies onto my Macbook then compressing/converting them in anticipation of the iTouch.

borrowing vs. ripping to watch...what's the difference? :lol:One is legal, one isn't. If he borrows the disc, there can't be simultaneous viewings on one copy, which is a principle behind the idea of fair use. I should be able to make copies of things I own, but not distribute them so that my copying enables more people to watch it at a time than could with the original copy.
It's the same reason that the Windows XP EULA allows an install on a laptop and a desktop, assuming you wouldn't use both at the same time (use the desktop at home, the laptop on the road).
