I've been trying. I had it up for like $45 shipped for over a month now and only had one bite and I think they chose to go with the DE of the US version from Amazon. Personally, I don't see many really using the online interaction all that much, since I never had anyone come into my game as I was playing and most of the notes/hints that were left were in English.

I just want the guide though, since I don't wanna spend $70 on another copy of this game because I haven't even finished playing through the version I have. I e-mailed Atlus about just buying the guide. I'll wait to see what they say about it.

Might lack the portability of a strategy guide but http://demonssouls.wikidot.com/

has everything you would need to know about the game.

gamestop CE is inactive as they have hit preorder limit... estarland same thing...

off to another store to see what I can do..

Now that I cant get the CE I want it even more..

Atlus may have made this pretty limited in the end. Has anyone heard how many preorders have been pushed?

I figured the Ce's would be somewhat easy to get.

Thanks. I have my computer right near my PS3, so I can just surf there whenever I get stuck.

Oh and gunm, you will probably quit this game outta frustration multiple times, but still come back to it like I have. It's an addicting, yet frustrating game.

You can still order it from amazon. And with ECA, FSSS, and their current price of $66.99, it's the best value.

No eca code for me.. I cant get that to work. Trying to figure that out now so I can do the order.
FSSS is free second shipping (prime) or something else?

Got in on Pre-order. Can't Wait!

io

Yes, I have this preordered, but I'm sort of... terrified. Terrified that I'm buying a game I will absolutely hate. I haven't taken that risk since I bought Jak 2.

I hope people in this thread will be helpful when I ask questions... Rather than turning into the Uber Ninja Gaiden Horde with responses like: 'That waz teh Easy, u suxxor.'

Honestly, other gamers turn me off hard games. (Jak 2. Ninja Gaiden. Viewtiful Joe. Various others.)

Well, don't listen to the latest CAGcast then. Shipwreck said he spent 6 hours on it and couldn't get through the first level. Also, I see nothing about this in the thread here (at least on the last few pages) but he said they made the U.S. version even harder than the Japanese one to get people who were fans of the import to buy it again. That sounds awfully strange to me - what's going on there?

I'm starting to regret my preorder ;).

IAmTheCheapestGamer
09-30-2009, 08:36 AM
LOL IO I've been saying that all along, that the game is INSANELY hard. If anyone wanted to find out how mind numbingly hard it truly is, they could've bought my import(which I bought from another CAG who got frustrated with it, I believe) for $45 shipped for the last TWO MONTHS.

It's still on my TL and people seem to think that by getting the US version it's going to suddenly be a breeze. LMAO Like I said before, I'll wait for the glut of used copies to drive down the price before I consider a US version. It shouldn't be a long wait.

io
09-30-2009, 08:38 AM
Yeah, but what Ship said is that the U.S. version was made HARDER than the original! That's what I'm trying to figure out. I know it was hard to begin with so I can't imagine they'd have made it even harder .

I'm torn between writing it off as a waste of time and effort and looking at it as a challenge and seeing if I can handle it!

IAmTheCheapestGamer
09-30-2009, 09:04 AM
I don't see HOW the US version can be harder than the import I've played. Then again, after a while you get to know how to dodge around enemies and just stab 'em straight through, so getting back to where you died in the game is a breeze after a bit.

However, getting there in the first place, that is the challenging part.

Snake2715
09-30-2009, 10:13 AM
I know for a fact I will be totally pissed. reading through GI and they say that you die and it takes 45 mins to get back to where you are... That sounds like a challenge and all, but sometimes I have only 45 minutes to play, and I dont get time for another 2-4 days...

I can see how this would get dropped to the backlog pile, for the day I may become disabled and have nothing else to do..

Still itching to get my copy though... if only the ECA codes would work.

IAmTheCheapestGamer
09-30-2009, 10:59 AM
Seriously, as long as you can dodge and get behind the enemies to be able to run them through with your sword, getting back to the point you died at is fairly easy and shouldn't take TOO long. Although there ARE certain harder enemies on just the first level who you may not be able to get behind quite as easily.

This game is definitely NOT for those who expect an easy game though.

I am thinking you have to spends hours grinding between bosses to defeat them.

IAmTheCheapestGamer
09-30-2009, 01:01 PM
Either that or call in help from other people playing the game, as they've said you can do. I didn't run into any of the people invading my game to try and kill me when I was playing the import, so I wonder how that actually works.

Snake2715
09-30-2009, 01:11 PM
Someone said if you do that, you risk losing a level or some stats permenately, if you die... so its a big risk, jumping blind into another persons game and only having half your life..

Could be well worth the risk..

Also the fact that the person knows someone is jumping into their game to hunt if you will..

I'm really looking forward to the challenge. I have been breezing through most games recently and want something that will stop me cold! I just hope I can tolerate the constant death and don't get too pissed. I really do hope I am "up to it"... should be fun regardless. Almost time to test some mettle!

IAmTheCheapestGamer
09-30-2009, 01:48 PM
Well, if you wanted to 'test some mettle', you could've already been doing that in an import copy and not have to wait another 6 days. I would've gladly given you my copy(for $45) about 2-3 weeks ago, since I was still frustrated by it and not playing it at all.

whoknows
09-30-2009, 02:04 PM
you probably should have put that on ebay awhile ago if you wanted to sell it so badly. that's what i did with mine.

IAmTheCheapestGamer
09-30-2009, 02:08 PM
True. But I've had it offered up for almost as long as I've had it and aside from an offer from a friend of mine(who I play GTA IV with on occasion and who is also a CAG)I've had maybe ONE offer for it and they backed out.

I refused to put it in Ebay, since I don't want them getting a share of any $$$ from the sale. I figured someone on CAG would wanna try this game and see what it's like long before the US version comes out. I guess I was wrong.

Thing is, the offer from my friend was a trade for some of their games, but I'd honestly rather the $$$ than a straight trade.

Having just checked Ebay, most of those on there are selling for around what I've wanted for it($45 shipped) on CAG for almost 2 months now, considering most of the $42 final value auctions are before Ebay/Paypal fees and shipping costs(since most are free shipping).

So yeah, I don't think my price was unreasonable and I figured I'd have had some interest in it by now. But with the US version being less than a full week away now, I'm betting the import version's price will drop considerably.

IAmTheCheapestGamer
09-30-2009, 02:45 PM
Actually, I remember playing many older RPGs(back on the Genesis) and having to do a full run through of a game in one shot. But then they started making battery based saves for those type of games and it was good....till the battery died.

But yeah, you're gonna have to do alot of the same kills over and over if you get killed. Thing is, the other night when I was playing through the first level, I ended up respawning at a point about 5 minutes in on that first level.

I don't know if it was the game messing up by not respawning me back at the beginning or not, but there I was up on the one set of steps and not at the beginning.

Maybe they're adding in checkpoints via an upcoming patch and that was a test?

After playing through Batman:AA and mastering every challenge, I can honestly say I'm hoping for an equally difficult and skilled combat system. It's been far too long since a game challenged me, which also made it one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had. If it's even half as good, then I'm going to be playing this hardcore.

I've never played any of Atlus' other titles, but I have played other titles from From Software like Armored Core.

The Atlus releases are usually niche titles that only a select group of people will actually buy, though since this is the first really good action RPG for the PS3 in the US it may get a wider fan base than usual.

Although I do hope that Atlus will pick up their 3D Dot Game Heroes game for release here. It looks quirky and weird enough to compete with Katamari Damacy.

If the game is HARDER than the version I've already played, there's going to be ALOT of very pissed off gamers, especially those who are thinking 'bah the game isn't gonna be THAT hard'.

All I can say to those people is PLAY AS A ROYAL, so at least you have Soul Arrow(ranged attack) to use against some of the harder enemies in just the first level.

I ended up cancelling my pre-order @ GS tonight, since all I really need is the guide because I still have the import version that I got from someone on CAG.

But if TRU ends up getting the Deluxe Edition in, maybe I'll grab it and resell the soundtrack CD, artbook and game, but just keep the guide for the import.

Thanks for the advice, I'm definitely playing as Royal...not that it's going to help me much.

I bought the Asian/English version and DAMN this is fucken stupid hard, but yet very rewarding like no other game I played this year, you actually feel like you accomplished something. I died about 5-7 times on just the first lvl, and another 3 times on the first boss, keep in mind I did not use the Royal, so that will make it a smidget easier. ALL enemies have a pattern, study & Adapt, thats the key to survival in this game. I sold off my import copie right when this was announced for $55.

Im actually going to preorder a copy of this tommorow, since Alpha Protocol was pushed back till summer of next year, and I had that paid off at gamestop.

The game almost fell apart after that level if I remember correctly... its like they ran out of time, so they through in a hard as level so hopefully people wouldnt get past it, to see their shoddy work.

Lotsa luck on that. Much like Nintendo first party titles, Atlus released titles rarely go on sale/clearance. Plus, I haven't seen ANYWHERE that's advertising they're going to be carrying it besides Gamestop as far as B&M places go.

But maybe I'll get lucky and be able to grab the lone copy that Toys R Us may get of the Deluxe Edition before anyone else realizes they have it. <fingers crossed>

I actually did beat Battletoads. That game however has left a mental scar I rather not bring back. I beat the original contra without the code. And for Megaman, I only beat 2 3 and 4. So I don't consider it 100% complete.

And I don't need a plat on SF4. I only need the trophies for beating people. The 1 player ones mean shit to me.

I'm thinking Temple Knight to start as a novice since they sound like a paladin class. Do they suck ass or are they pretty OP with their healing spells? I'm not worried about having a ranged attack, since LOS/dodging shouldn't be hard.

IAmTheCheapestGamer
10-02-2009, 02:00 PM
Trust me when I say this Jodou. If you want to get all of the various equipment towards the end of the first real level that's lying out amid the charred remains of many fallen soldiers(including what I believe is a really good sword), you'll want a ranged attack to take out the reason behind the charred remains.

I tried ducking and dodging and I ended up going all the way back to the beginning of the level because I zigged when I should've zagged.

There's also another spot where there's a 'slightly too powerful for a newbie' enemy(not saying where) who you can take out with a good series of ranged attacks if you're fast enough. Otherwise, he's a one hit and you're dead kind of enemy.

Believe me when I say go with using a Royal for the ranged attack, you'll thank me.

IAmTheCheapestGamer
10-02-2009, 02:22 PM
I hope not. But just judging from that first level and the videos I've seen of future bosses, you're gonna need ranged attacks. Some of these bosses seriously are as big as a friggin' 4-5 story building, if not bigger.

Snake2715
10-02-2009, 03:23 PM
The thing is all these classes have their weaknesses. So to say everyone should start as a Royal is crazy.. maybe down the line they suffer as they were front end loaded...?

Isn't there some sort of firebomb you can throw at enemies? I was reading up about some turpentine that you can coat your sword with among other things, but I thought you could also throw it to set things on fire. I thinking of going as a Knight or maybe a Thief. Does anybody know like on average how long each level or zone takes to clear, on a single run, obviously I'll die and it'll take more time but how long is each level? Also can I start co-op immeadiately or would that not be available till after a few levels?

There's five stages. Not having actually played the game yet, I assume they are all long and wrought with danger. I can't imagine the game going very fast what with all the dying and players invading your game and such.

Hopefully the Royal will still have the MP regen or I'm really going to be in a world of hurt. :p

No but if someone wants to play with each other just have to tell where to look to join. I believe you drop an item and other people can see it so you meet at that area and have the player drop it.

My understanding is that it's an endless loop of new game +s in which you keep your character and all of the enemies get stronger, so yes in terms of reaching the end of the game, but technically it can loop forever (someone correct me if I'm wrong)

And is everyone planning to be a royal (I think I have been convinced), do any other classes start with particularly interesting weapons/items?

At least the same battle doesn't repeat after you beat them (I assume at least)... I just beat the same boss for the fifth time in Prince of Persia.

And I do believe there is an ending before the new game +, my minimal knowledge of the story at least would imply that (I'm trying to avoid encountering too many spoilers, not that I'll be playing this for the story).

So far I've learned that having those ranged attacks (from Royal class) is good, although you might pay for it later in the game.

Character creation / development is pretty open, choosing what level to play is also. (after completing the training level and 1-1, 1-3 has a requirement to enter)

The main goal of every level is to find and kill the boss demon to advance, so in that aspect it is a linear game.

I plan to PK the shit out of everyone lol.

You'll get some kills but most of the time you're going to get smashed on by:

Skill is still required to be a good pker, but the deck is certainly stacked against them. The pker has the advantage of being able to move freely through the level without monster aggro. On the other hand the pker starts at the beginning of the level, is announced when entering the victims game, and most likely will get triple teamed.

If you're still interested you can probably find pk character builds to help you plan weapon / armor usage and skill point distribution.

From the Demon's Souls wiki:

"If the invading player fails to kill the host, because they somehow die by the environment of the stage (falling, rolling ball trap in 1-x, but not killed by the host or a blue phantom player) your Soul Level will decrease, deducting a level from your highest stat."

Some parts I did find annoying but the games bread and butter was the boss fights as all of those were fun and rewarding. The first play through will be the hardest and will require the most time. Even though the game is suppose to get harder with New Game+ most people wont notice the difference since you retain your level, equipment, and knowledge of what to do and where to go.

stillfree - any pointers for the rest of us? im optimistically hoping for a platinum. so since you have gotten yours, i would appreciate anything that you learned that would cut the learning curve and time costs down. and would you agree with using a female royal for the 1st game as others have suggested? thanks.

Yeah I did go with the female royal at first, but in the end made sure it could use all the weapons efficiently.

1. Don't kill any npcs in the nexus unless you have to, if kill an npc they don't respawn until new game+.

2. Killing npcs lowers your character tendency towards black, there are two rings you have to get for a trophy that rely on your character tendency. Obtain the friend's ring (pure white tendency) first then get the foe's ring (pure black tendency) last. Its harder to raise character tendency from black to white than the other way around.

3. Be aware of crystal geckos and there locations, the crystals they drop are very important for obtaining certain weapon trophies. Geckos in levels 3-2, 3-3, 4-2, and 4-3 drop pure stones that are hard to come by so every kill counts.

4. save your ephemeral eye stones. You can use them to shift your world tendency to pure black by using one then dying. (should only take 7 stones to go from pure white to pure black) Going through the 5 worlds in both pure white / black offer different rewards which you need for completion trophies.

5. lol make sure you keep your shield up at all times because all the enemies are cheap bastards.

thats about it off the top of my head I can add more later. good luck to those getting the game soon. :applause:

I had my first invader in my game last night. When I heard the sounds of battle on a portion of the level I hadn't yet reached, I was understandably confused. Then I saw him/her in soul form kicking ass with the character you have to save on the first real level.

I was like 'oh shit', since I figured they were going to kill all the enemies and then come back for me. But luckily they just disappeared after helping annihilate most of the enemies for the level.

I managed to get to the point where I opened the gate to the first boss battle, which is towards the beginning of the first real level. However, I got my ass readily handed to me in the first attempt at slaying the boss(Phalanx).

This game is still brutal, but a hell of a rush once you figure out where you've gotta go.

BTW, if anyone gets stuck and didn't get the Deluxe Edition with the guide, the YouTube video strategies help immensely.

Man, this has to be the most unsure game purchase I've ever had. I'm torn in like three different directions; buy it because it's awesome, pass because it's insanely difficult, or but it because it's awesomely difficult. If GS has their B2G1 sale and I see this, I think I'll pick it up...

On a side note, is there any way to turn off the 'multiplayer' aspects I really don't like the idea of someone coming into my game and killing me. That would be a game breaker for me instantly.

I'm really enjoying the game as well. The first boss was definitely different and made me think (didn't know about how to correctly kill him). I haven't died yet though. I seem to play too defensive and stealthy to get caught off guard so far.

Went to the local Gamestop and all they had were pre-orders. Took calling 5 other stores in the area before I found one that had a single non-reserved copy left over and they held it for me. A few of the GS around here only got 3 copies of the game in.

The first store I went to got in 7 copies and had 4 on pre-order reserve. When I asked to purchase one of the extra copies the only clerk in the store said "Sorry, those are for me and my two friends."

Won't get to play until later tonight though. Cant wait to run around and die :hot:

 I knew that would happen at some GS stores. Of course, the reason for that being that people think Atlus equates to automatically gonna be worth a shitload down the line.

While I can see that happening with this, there's no guarantee and the harder difficulty will probably have many people selling their copies within a week or two.

HAHAHAHA!!! I just checked Ebay and here's one person already saying it's 'too hard for me' after playing for an HOUR: http://cgi.ebay.com/Demons-Souls-Deluxe-Edition-Playstation-3_W0QQitemZ170391520321QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVideo_Ga mes_Games?hash=item27ac204441

Am I crazy, or is the thought of losing hours of progress not sound fun?

In any case, I plan to play it when I feel better. If anyone wants to add me on PSN so I can do this multiplayer thing I'd appreciate it. I don't have that many people on my PSN friends list (as opposed to my 360 list for some reason).

Even if this isn't required I wouldn't mind getting some people with interests similar to mine (this game, Katamari, R&C, basically any non-shooter, non-fighting, non-sports games ;)).

Yeah you get one shot killed. Dying is a major part of the game so I guess the game introduces it to the player rather early on.

It can get a bit frustrating but it'll probably be the player's fault for not being cautious of his or her surroundings. Although there are a fair share of situations where you'll be saying bull shit with some cheap enemies stun locking you.

Well, no movement on my Amazon preorder prompted me to check out a really cool B&M I visit from time to time. I said if they had the deluxe edition I would get it and cancel Amazon's (as it was a standard edition). They had multiple copies of the deluxe edition. Woo woo.

I now have it in hand and will get to play it this week. Supported a cool B&M store and got the deluxe. If anyone in southern L.A. wants to grab a copy, let me know and I'll give you the B&M info.

Oh, and the store was cool and gladly proclaimed I would be getting the artbook/CD as well, instead of trying to hoard.

Ha ha yeah, my only two deaths in 1-1 was trying to fight that bastard. I found a pretty easy way to kill 'em is to lure it all the way back to the long winding staircase with all the dreglings and the short cut to the entrance. The Red Eye Knight will eventually just fall off and die a horrible death thus netting you around 2k souls and some nice items.

Edit: Woops, nevermind. Just read the online portion of the wiki. Makes sense that it's only randoms, as only live players who have not beaten that levels boss, and have a specific item to use, can "summon" ghost players. Ah well, looks hella fun regardless.

Sorry, but I could really use an answer on this, as another buddy of mine only wants it if we can purposely pair up. From what I've read, that's not how it works, right? Or am I mistaken?

Man, I am loving this game thus far. It is exhilarating just to play a game in this style, which I have not done in ages. So awesome so early... can't wait to see what's ahead!

I took out the red eyes. But he stuck me the first time. I got turned around and he smacked me good. Second time I put him on mega blast though (if mega blast constitutes running away every chance I got).

EDIT - Was so scared to turn off the game... didn't know how save and load worked. Luckily it loaded me right back to where I was. Was going to be unhappy if I had to roll through the level again.

It's possible to play with friends, but it seems difficult to set up.

I'm only basing this on a portion of a review I read on Amazon:

If you are in soul form, then you can put a blue sign on the ground in order to be summoned by others or you can use an item to invade another player's game. However, you cannot just invite your friends to your game. If you and your friends are on different servers (which you have no control over) you won't see the signs they left and will not be able to summon them. If you happen to be on the same server, you can arrange a location in the game to put the sign (via XMB message) and then summon the other person.

Spend some time practicing parry. You're invulnerable while performing a critical blow, so you can one-shot them once you've perfected it.

On a side note, I went Temple Knight and I've never needed a ranged attack like people have been clamoring about. I guess it's an easier learning curve if you're not forced to learn the melee mechanics but I'd be willing to bet it will bite them in the ass later.

Question for the experienced: is it possible to parry polearms? It's the only weapon I've never been able to time correctly it seems, so I stopped trying assuming you just couldn't.

Saint Noir
10-07-2009, 12:57 PM
Man, I love the parry move.

The ranged attack seems too easy sometimes, so unless there is a huge group of enemies, I usually melee attack. I figure, as you stated, it might come back to haunt me. So I want to make sure I am well rounded.

I also never enter a room, go down a hallway, etc. without my shield firmly planted in front of my face. A measured pace seems a must. So far so good. I did load up on a ton of HP when I hit the upgrade lady for the first time.

EDIT - Haha... I didn't add my bloodstain until after the time listed...
http://www.destructoid.com/demon-s-souls-has-a-death-toll-you-re-just-a-statistic-151197.phtml

And boy do I love my Cling Ring.

EDIT 2 - LOL at this guys comment... "Based on what I saw last night, probably half of those deaths were due to people thinking that this was Halo and running through doors at full speed, getting flattened by an ambush. And a few unfortunate cases of people just straight running off of ledges."

I saw so many blood stains of people ninja rolling off cliffs or barreling full speed into a room of enemies.

Not yet. Not to me.

I made it through 1-1 with 1 death maybe. 1-2, I got to the end and decided on a terrible plan and died at the boss. I died a few more times on the way back, but it was no big deal. Levels aren't MASSIVE (yet), so dying means you have to go through again but it isn't a super long ways. You just have to learn where people are and what the best plan of attack is... I don't see the game cheating me at all. When I've died it was because I was impatient or just did something dumb.

But you will die... you will have to redo... but it is rewarding. I think the never cheap thing is the most important part (to me).

I found the bloodstains and phantom players(showing other players going through the same level as you)to be one of the better ideas they implemented in this game besides the hint/message system.

Although, I wonder if the US version has alot of people posting 'this is harsh, evaluate me' like they did in the Asian version. Apparently, people considered that a good enough message to leave and expect to be rated.

BTW, how many of you went down past where the blacksmith is in the Nexus and read all of the hint messages on the floor? In the Asian version, there were literally like 100-150 messages just down the hall from where the blacksmith is. Some were good and very informative, while others were just more of the 'harsh, evaluate me' ones.

I've seen several "I'm in trouble, rate me!" messages but mostly in the immediate area of boss fights. Fortunately, the majority of the messages I've read have been relatively helpful. I'm shocked I haven't encountered many douchebag messages telling me to go jump down a cliff for treasure.

Above... this one... yes you are in soul form any time you die until you beat a boss or maybe use an item (I have not tried this).

For this boss... no idea. If you have an online connection you could always get assistance, hopefully you have the blue stone. One guy in our party of 3 was a purely melee fighter... he bit the dust quickly. Best advice yould be to check the wiki or youtube if you need melee help (or maybe someone else here can shed some light on this!).

Hope you boosted your endurance, because it's a fight of stamina. Just rush it at the start and block everything. Once you get in his face, it'll try to nom nom you and if you block once or twice it'll become exhausted and collapse. Just blast him with strong attacks at this point and stam up to block the next couple of attacks, then hit him again. After doing that twice, run back to the entrance and start the whole process again. Depending on your damage output, it should take 2-3 times of doing this before it dies. It's a tank and spank fight really.

It's pretty nice. It has a lot of useful information and it is nice to have right there at your side. It gives you info on all the items, characters, etc. The guide part is pretty spot on too (I haven't really used this, but skimmed over one section to check it out). It feels fairly comprehensive, though there are plenty of questions you may have that aren't in there. Just the nature of this kind of game. It gives the locations of tons of stuff as well. Some interesting stats from day 1 straight from the Atlus twitter
Total # of messages in Boletaria Castle = 23,723. Total # of deaths = 7,482. Defeating your first boss in Demon's Souls? Priceless.

i cant get enough of this game.

i have a question tho...

the first time through 1-1, there was the red dragon on the bridge.
anyways after beating the boss of the level, i went back into 1-1 to buy something from that merchant.
he was gone, and so were the dragons. it was kinda cool because i was able to get all the goodies the dragons were guarding.

now is this a glitch? from what i've been reading it seems like it.
has this happened to anyone else?

From my understanding.... the dragon guards those treasures in 1-1, but goes away if you kill it in 1-2. Now, when I went through 1-1 the dragon was not there, but I was too afraid to go past the charred bodies. I'll have to go check it out again when I get back to the nexus to see what is up. If I could of grabbed the treasure then and didn't, I'll be mad!

I had 35 minutes last night and got through the tutorial. I am going to see if I can sink some more time into it tonight..

it seems like you can just go back and revisit areas huh? Thats kind of cool I guess. I noticed people were on 2-1 but had not seem to beat say 1-3 yet...

I guess I will understand that when I get there!

I never saw a dragon either on my play of 1-1. I saw the charred bodies. Saw bloodstains of dead players and was scared to go forward, but I inched anyway and got all the treasures. No dragon showed up so I was happy.

I started playing today (and skipped class to do it)! My only grip is that not once has an enemy dropped a MP recovery item.

From looking at the strategy guide, it seems that is has to do with the world tendency thing, but I don't really understand what's going on with that.

It's not a glitch, your World Tendency was pure white so the dragons were gone. Things change based on white/black Tendency.

ChibiJosh, the Royalty class starts with an MP regen ring. Otherwise you can take the telescope you get after saving Ostrava in 1-1 and trade it to a crow at the top of 4-1. Put it on the ground, the crow will like it, quit out and jump back in and the ring will be there.

Snake2715

The world tendancy is also effected by all those on your server... so some thing happen only when its a white tendancy and others when its a dark...

As mentioned earlier in this thread its easier to go dark from a white tendancy, and harder to et back to white... so if you want to go through the game 2 times to see both sides its easier to stay white the first time through..
I am very limited with it as well, but I am guessing its kind of a luck of the draw thing since all those on your server are effecting your tendancy.

I'm still trying to understand what turns a level's tendency to white or black.

I believe my Boleterian Palace is pure black and it opened up a part of 1-1 near the starting point of the level with a bunch of unknown soldier souls, a mini-boss chick with bad ass bondage armor, (for female characters only I think) and also some plate armor and shield.

I made a mistake of going in there with a bunch of items so I couldn't carry all the plate items with me. I went back to the nexus to make a deposit and came back but the items I left were all gone .

The dragons despawn if your WT (World Tendancy) is pure white. I.e. you only did good deeds (killing demons). There's also a very large sword you can only obtain called Keel Smasher after slaying the boss for 2-3 by being pure white.

I think gone for good, so you have to catch ones you missed the second time through (+ play). I did see one twice, but that was only one time. I hear you need a strong bow to be worth anything at getting them... also a thief ring would help you sneak up on them.

Geckos work like this: a new game will spawn each gecko with a counter set to 1. Every time one either escapes or is slain, that counter is reduced by 1. Every time a boss demon is slain, the counter increases by 1. The stage you're on will also determine the rarity of items they drop, so the higher the stage the better the loot.

You don't need a bow, but it helps. They also don't react to rolling, so it's another way to get close up. I find you can just run them down easily and slap them once to flip them over and just wail on them from there.

Yeah, I know about the royalty class ring, I chose not to take it.

Since this crow is in 4-1, could I conceivably go to 4-1, get it and leave given that I haven't even beaten 1-1 yet?

No. I wouldn't even try it. I'm not 100% on this crow location, but the guys in 4-1 will eat you alive if you havent even gotten past 1-1. You prolly need to level a bit first. I could be wrong...

It's a good sized guide.

OK, so I read through it after I played through 1-1 last night. I never saw this Ostravus dude or whatever he's called. Even though I've killed the 1-1 boss can I still go back and find him and save him? And where the hell is he? The guide is not at all clear on that since I've pretty much gone everywhere. I did stay away from what I guess was the dragon's roost because there was a warning saying to be soul level 30 first on the ground. I guess I shoudl have gone because apparently he might not have even been there. Dammit!

Also, I have a more immediate problem. After finishing 1-1 the candle maiden said I'm supposed to talk to the Elemental or something? I ran all over the Nexus - went upstairs, to the Pantheon, all over. I can't seem to find this person/thing at all and apparently I can't level up until I do so? I have 3000 souls saved that I don't want to lose by going back in somewhere. WTF!? Nothing at all about that in the guide either. It just says "talk to her" or something.

sean - I do know that the white sprites are other people playing the game currently! Kind of cool. I noticed that more often than not they take swipes at me as the run past ;).

Oh, and by the way, the boss in 1-1 was a piece of cake. I did die a few times on the way when I got the camera turned around and got cornered and couldn't get the soul arrow off. Maybe it was because I was the royalty class but I had no problems. And since you can go back to the Nexus at any time (assuming you can get back to a teleporter) with all your souls intact the game isn't NEARLY as hard as everyone made it out to be. And keep in mind I'm a crappy gamer especially with action/combo/fighting type games ;).

Well, you remember the area where those 4 or 5 boulders fall down after you (or before you if you attack the area before moving on)? After that there is an area where you go up some stairs, and there are two archer guys on two different levels. To the right of that area are some stairs going down. Follow that way to find him.

I was there and I killed 5 grunt type dudes on a lower level and there were some more guys further down below but I couldn't figure out how to get to them - there was a wall there (and you can't jump). Hmmm... I had an idea that might be it though. I'll check it out. Will he still be there if I go back?

Monumental is a kid with a candle in 3rd or so floor of nexus... blends in, just look for candle.

Monumental - I knew I had the name wrong. Well, of course I ran all through that area. I thought those were dead bodies or statues or something. When the candle maiden "showed" me where to go via panning up there I thought she was showing me the HUGE statue with the sword. So I was trying to figure out how to get there and talk to that :bomb:.

Also, it's pretty funny too see all the bloodstains in the Nexus. I have a question though. While many are from people jumping off the stairs and killing themselves, I do click on the occasional one where someone seems to be in combat right in the middle area there in from of the blacksmith, etc. What's going on with that? I thought the Nexus was a "safe" area?

sean - I basically just asked the same thing. Read Saint Noir's spoiler.

Ok, just a couple more questions. What is soul form exactly? I picked up a stone that resurrects you from soul form.

Also, how do you play with randoms?

Saint Noir
10-08-2009, 07:08 PM
Soul form is you dead and not at full capacity. Stones can resurrect your body, I believe (aint tried it), or you can be resurrected when you kill a demon (or kill players as black phantom).

To play with others... if you have the blue eye stone and are alive you can summon people to you with it. If you are in spirit form you can write on the ground with the stone and other players can summon you to them. I believe this is how it works.

If you don't have blue eye stone yet, you'll get it soonish.

EDIT - If you want someone to play with and see a blue message on the ground, just click it and hit summon.

Ah, that might explain the battle bloodstains in the Nexus then. They do seem to die rather rapidly. I also saw one on the approach to the hidden merchant in 1-1. I didn't know it was a merchant but I saw a replay of some dude biting it pretty quickly so I went in really cautiously and all I saw was this gollum-looking guy just squatting there and staring at me. Luckily I didn't attack ;).

Man, I know this is a good game because I played till really late last night and could barely get to sleep even though I stopped at 4am and had dreams about the game. I even got up early wanting to play more (though I can't till tonight). I'm really anxious to get back to that Ostravus guy and see if he's still there. Apparently if he dies it cuts off a major sidequest.

You'll see a lot of suicide bloodstains in the nexus since dying in the nexus doesn't change your world tendency. It's just an easy way to go back to soul form without accumulating black world tendency.

The Nexus is a safe area, the person picked a fight with an npc and lost. :)

Premptive question(s). I don't have the game yet (waiting for it from Amazon) but I was wondering:
Is there an advantage to being in soul form? I know you tend to spend a lot of time in soul form, but I thought that you were weaker in soul form? Do you not lose your soles u are carying in soul form when you die in soul form? Also, don't you need to go back and retrieve your body to get your souls if you die, and if so, then what benefit would dying in the nexus, safe zone or not, have?

Saint Noir
10-08-2009, 09:53 PM
There are slight differences. You still lose souls when you die in soul form (but as always can regain them by making i to your bloodstain without dying). You do not effect world tendency when you die in soul form (but do if you really die). It also changes the multiplayer aspect a bit. You do have less health in soul form... lots of different things.

If you're talking bout that big dude in armor that's 'hiding' on that one wall, I think he's actually chained up on that wall. He thanks you for saving him or something or at least he did in the import version.

I just let him roll through all the enemies in front of us once I freed him. He kicks some serious ass. Of course, if he dies you get the Mausoleum Key from his corpse.:D I stabbed him in the back accidentally the first time I played the game.
