I work at the York store in PA and can confirm we're moving up to 20% off as well.

I don't want to sound like an ass, but let me know when cds, movies and games get to to 40% off.

Some cds at 30% off are still more expensive than as compared to amazon.com

Then they should sell it to you for $39.99 (or lower).

Crud. 20% off all games means I guess I have to check it out. Of course there's probably nothing left, thanks to idiots buying up stuff at 10% off, which is more than they could have gotten it elseware.

At least this gives me an excuse to finally pick up Sins of a Solar Empire from Target since they're near each other.

Forgot to ask-does this 20% thing cover PC games too? What about Blu Rays? (Though their selection was terrible...)

It will take about a month and a half to reach 40% off. When it at a CC that closed earlier there will still a TON of games left (Fable 2, Fallout 3, etc). THis was back in December too.

So, can CC still activate the 360 points cards or should I not bother risking it? I see a few posts here saying the cards aren't being activated and some saying they are working fine.

Any card that has to be activated by the teller won't work.

The cards that are in plastic clamshell packaging are already activated and will work. Most stores are selling them 30% off (I got two), but some are reporting their stores are selling them at full price. You have to check your store.

dabamus
01-29-2009, 01:52 PM
This might be a dumb question but could you take the card to another store (Best Buy, Target, etc.) and have them activate it for you?

That's actually what I was thinking. I was planning on trying that when I go shopping tomorrow for my birthday.

As has already been said, that won't work. If you can't return the cards to Circuit City afterwords, you'll be out of money.

I went to my local store to see if the games were 20% off and when I got there, I only saw a sign of 20% off of social games. I thought they only meant social by games like family games or those lame rythm causal games like rock band/guitar hero games.

Last time I was there( last week), I was gonna buy Oblivion GOTY for 360 (was $29.99 - ONLY 2 left) but held off. I wanted it to go lower. Until today, I only saw one of them left, so I took it and went to the strategy guide section which has 40% off. I got myself Fallout 3 LE guide ($34.99) & Oblivion GOTY guide ($24.99).

I went to the cashier and I noticed that Oblivion GOTY which was $30 came out to $23.99. So I thought maybe the game just cost cheaper. Once I got in my car, I whipped out my trusty calculator and did the math. AND YUP, they knocked off %20 off. SO there you have it, GAMES ARE NOW %20 OFF! GO GO GO!!!

All in all, I got:

Oblivion GOTY (360) for $23.99
Oblivion GOTY Guide for $14.99
Fallout 3 LE Guide for $20.99

Not bad at all!

Actually today I saw a Samsung LN46A550 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV for $909 after 20% off. Thats not bad, since Amazon has it for over $100 more. But I guess you gotta pay that in tax. Still weird since all other tvs are $400 more than Amazon.

For all the stupid people who stripped all the TVs for 10% off, now they're 20% off. Why cant you just wait? Fools.

Games and now 20% off. Waiting for +50%.

The reason it is cheap is because it's a SAMSUNG!

Also, people wonder why the state and city govts are in such a financial crisis. It's because we are all trying to dodge sales tax. If you can get a deal locally that's within $5-$10 difference out the door on a big ticket item, it may serve you better to buy local.

Silly me, I thought it was because they were spending more than they were taking in. Heaven forbid they cut back on spending!

Sometimes I avoid sales tax purely on principle 8-)

Samsung's TVs have ranked higher than Sony in overall value and quality according to consumer digest. Just go to your local Barnes and Noble, grab the magazine and look at the TV rankings.

2. Or with those $5-10 that you can save by buying online, you can go to your locally owned restaurant and help them stay in business.

just got back my Circuit City (LI NY) 10 to 40% off) 10% mainly on computers and monitors/TV's/Camcorders. 20% on blu ray and dvd movies. The only thing i saw 40% on was portable ipod/iphone speaker sets. I am tempted to pull the trigger on a sony player for my wife's iphone. 149.99 reg down to 89.99 (The cheapest i was able to find this on the internet was 114 shipped). Ultimately the prices are still kind of high.

I also got the Fallout 3 LE guide for 20.99 at the Buena Park CC; last one too! Games were 20% off as well, accessories varied from 10-30%. The Fullerton CC had 30% off accessories and 20% off games. The Northtown Circuit City in Minnesota had Wiis at 10% off yesterday. They were just delivered that afternoon. I assume these were items that were ordered before the bankruptcy (they had some new release DVDs as well) or stuff that was waiting in the warehouse to be issued.

File under the "sucker born every minute" category:

Media reports say they've sold 25% of the $1.8 billion inventory, and at least one of the liquidators claims they'll be done in half the time originally anticipated.

I'm a bit skeptical, seeing that they've increased the discounts and it's not even been two weeks yet.

DS3 were $38 though.Funny, I was just there earlier. I noticed they ran out of 360s. If they had any for 30% or more off, I'd buy it.

Keep in mind that in addition to the stores' original inventory there are nine distribution centers to empty out, so some stuff may be restocked.

"Social gaming" is the most ridiculous genre ever conceived by marketers.

I don't think it was conceived by marketers. I'm pretty sure it was conceived after the fact when many retailers tried to figure out where they were going to put all this big plastic crap (much like many of us with our living rooms).

How are all you guys still finding the 1600 point cards? Anyone will to give me a code via e-mail for $15??? Just to be a good person :)
They still have about 6 at my store. I'd buy more but I'm u to over 4,000 and it'll take me a while to go through that.

Also they ring up $15.18 with tax for me.

Mine hasn't been restocked, and likely never will. The only system I would get @20% is a NDS. But those sold out weeks ago. No, and I mean no, 360 Accessories, period. I wanted Points cards, but can't find them at either CC near me.

If the PS2's hold out to 30% I'll get one for keeping.

Only last thing worth while is a TomTom, but going to need to be +50% for that.

Found out today that the goal of the distribution centers is to ship out as possible in the least amount of trips possible. I'm at a busy store and was told that we might see one more decent-sized truck, I'm very interested to see if that happens, and what items will be on it.

Came back from the CC near whitestone NY. They are pretty much stocked up on all the major video games 20% off now. There TVs and good chunk of computer hardware are all gone. They have alot of open computers and laptops still on sale for 10% off. I might go back next week and pick up a laptop for my girl.

Wolfpup
01-30-2009, 01:24 PM
I just don't get that with the computers. They've never had much selection, and their prices are bad, even at 10% off. I mean forget the internet even, you can walk into a Best Buy across the street and pick up far more powerful laptops for the same prices or less. (Think Gateway FX, Toshiba, Asus, etc., none of which Circuit City carries.)

My Circuit City didn't even have any decent NETBOOKS of all things! Some weird off brand thing, something else kind of lame, and an expensive but decent looking HP that unfortunately used florescent lighting.

I wouldn't go that far. The MS 1600 point cards for $13.99 is the best deal I've ever seen for them. I also picked up an RB2 Wireless Guitar (360) for $55.

I do agree the general percent off isn't fantastic, but if you hunt you'll find the gems. And isn't that what CAG is all about?

Took another swing by the St. Peters, Missouri store. Games are 20% and accessories are 30%. The clearance bin was gone though, with no trace of the old clearance games. They may have been reintegrated into the regular games section but I couldn't find a copy of Sega Genesis Collection for PS2 that I'd had my eye on earlier.

The most interesting things I saw were a copy of Motorstorm: Pacific Rift marked at $39.99-- minus 20% seemed like a pretty good deal for such a new game. I don't have a PS3 though. :P Also a whole slew of Wii Classic Controllers that I didn't remember seeing last time. The only console I saw in the store was-- go figure-- a silver GameCube, in the most beat up disgusting looking box ever (seemed like the 'Cube itself was fine inside though). There was no price tag on it.

Columbia SC Harbison store still had all games mark 10% off, no good deals yet. Someone went in and bought the overpriced harddrives, and most other components except for a few Antec 500 watt PSU marked at 79 dollars HA HA HA HA HA HA

They have sold all the 360 Guitar Hero World tours at 151 and saw a few world tour guitar packages for 79 dollars.

Civilization Chronicles/anthology was 54 before 10%, Spores and other games still marked to high, Crysis was still 39.99 LOL.

That's likely illegal.

Someone else jump in if I am wrong, but I believe they can return the cut UPC codes to the manufacturers for refunds, and report the merchandise as destroyed.

That could also be a challenge for dealing with manufacturer warrenties, which the clearance companies are heavily promoting in these sales.

I have not seen that at any of the CC's here in Richmond.

You might want to check in every so often since the liquidator will reduce items that they have in bulk and are not selling as well at a greater percentage than posted. It all varies by inventory and frequency in sales, but the liquidator wants that item to move even if it doesn't follow the current percentage.

Hardly any accessories at my local CC and no systems except 2 PSP 2000's. Just some assorted cables for all 3 systems, 1month Live cards and live cameras. I haven't been there in 2 weeks waiting for better savings, but I think that they must packed up stuff and sent it stores that are selling. Ask the liquidation company. CC is not in control of it's stores, prices, ads, or anything related to them anymore.

All the accessories are pretty much gone at my store. The only thing left in the PS3 section is the bluetooth headset and a crappy RF wireless controller. Surprisingly there are still some good games left that I'm interested in once 40% or more hits.

I found NBA Ballers and some other crappy game behind the strategy guides. I lol'ed and then just left it in front for anyone to grab.

Got some deals today at the Roanoke, VA store. It was my first trip there as it is 45 minutes away and didn't expect to find much. I only looked at games and very quickly as I was passing through on my way out of town and my fiance who was with me had to be somewhere. I'll probably stop at the CC here tomorrow and maybe hit some CC's off interstate on the way back.

Deals I got after 20% off:
Wii Fit: $71.99
Guitar Hero On Tour (w/ guitar grip) for DS $27.99
Final Fantasy Tactics A2 for DS $15.99

Guitar Hero On Tour w/ guitar grip was marked at retail but I was happy to see it rang up at the retail price of the game itself - 20% of that. As usual with CC, I wish they marked stuff with up to date prices or had a price scanner on the floor. I bet they have quite a few great deals out there that just aren't marked right :(

So I inquired about Wiis today and the CSR said they had them in stock, but weren't able to sell them until Sunday. I questioned why and she stated something to the effect that even though CC is going out of business Nintendo still controls when they can put the Wiis up for sale. Any truth to this or total bull? She did confirm the price would be $199.99 after 20% off.

Complete bull. I work at one and the rule is if its in the back its good to go to the floor to be sold. I'd say go back in tomorrow and just ask for one there is no rule.

To clarify my post, this evening in Boise, ID CC, there was about 6 60gb hds, tons of wireless adapter cards and about 20 or so 1600 point cards. games were 20 percent off, accessories, 30% off, and the other discounts the same as the other stores. I did notice tons of Canon XSI in the case going for about 635 (20 percent off) which makes it the same price as amazon

Care to let us know where this might be at? I went to the one in Silverdale wednesday and it was empty. I suspect the slow stores won't get more merchandise. By chance, did anybody see the % off for mp3 players? I forgot if it was 10% or 20%. Thanks.

nooooooo why!?!? have you even used a ps3? why did you do that! trust me, anyone that has a 360 with live and switches over to a ps3 will hate it, trust me, i did the same thing and my friend says the same thing. switching from 360 to ps3 is like downgrading to a xbox 1. sorry i dont mean to upset the sony defence force here but im just dissapointed at how people buy ps3s withought really even having used one before just cause they think hey the onlines free and it dosent rrod.

PS3's PSN has never given me any problems, so I don't see where your unfounded argument comes from. Perhaps a few examples could detail your concern. Either way, why does it matter if some one else wants to buy a PS3? Does it affect you? Is it any of your business? Please be considerate and not pass judgment on people's purchasing decisions.

Oh and I forgot to mention that your post has nothing to do with this thread. Come to think of it, neither does this response to your brief PS3 bash session.

They should be accepting them. Check the FAQ on the CC website. I suggest printing out the relevant parts and taking it with you to the store. Although liquidators run the show now, I think presenting the official line from CC will carry a bit more weight than "well, on CAG they said you still take them!"

And going from a 360 to a PS3 is like going from a ford pinto to a mercedes benz. I'm sure it's only coincidence that all my friends have had their systems break at least three times with the highest record being eight on one person.

That's rather unfair. A Delorean is experimental new tech that may or may not work. The PS3 is established tech with a high stability rating. I just hooked up a one terabyte hard drive to this thing along with the internal 320 gb hard drive. It's got about 200 movies inside it already, it's got about 60-70 DLC games on it and I have linux incase my laptop is broken. It's also fully BC with a freakishly huge library. All the features, all the luxury and all that laziness and it's quiet. Now that's what makes it so damn fun.

The CC liquidation thread seems like a dumb place to have a console argument, but just to throw in a couple cents:

As an owner of a 360 and PS3, I can attest that the complaints about PS3's online service are greatly exaggerated, and seem to come mostly from people who don't even own a PS3.

I'm sorry but are you saying that "Blu-Ray" and the "Cell" processor are established tech? Sure, they may work *now*, but when the decision was made to put these in the PS3, they absolutely were 'experimental'. Especially in the case of Blu-Ray, no one was sure that format would win out.

One CC near my place got a restock of 1600 point cards on Thursday (I'm sure they are all gone by now). I checked the other two in my area and neither of them had gotten anymore in. Really, all you can do is check everyday as (at least the stores around me) they have printed out signs up saying they are getting new merchandise in daily. Points cards are Microsoft currency for your 360. Used to purchase tv show episodes, movie rentals, original xbox games, 360 arcade games, theme and gamer pics, and content download for games. If you dont already own a 360 and are getting one...........its a good idea to get some points cards. Youll have those spent in a heartbeat if your a pts card virgin.

It looked a bit like an apocaplyse with merchandise strewn everywhere and only half of it had price tags. I always hate going into these out-of-business sales because the atmosphere is so somber.

The big titles were gone, but I did pick up Silent Hill Homecoming & Lost Planet cause they were ridiculously cheap and we're OOS in our store.

I suppose it depends which CC, but at the ones I saw it was merely cables.

Is it just me, or does the main character in Silent Hill: Homecoming look like Nick Lachey?????
Hahahaha!:applause:

Ahem! Can anyone else confirm the 20% discount on games at their CC? The one in Tustin, CA doesn't seem to have it, well, that I'm aware of at least.

Mine had 20% of the games. Went there this morning, mine also had restocked a few games too ... still waiting for a little more discount (^_^).

Went to the Hollywood Circuit City and games were 20% off, accessories 30%, and many of the older titles had been marked down considerably (Condemned 9.99, Lost Planet 15.99, Alone in the Dark 7.99).

How much was Silent Hill?

Yah 20% off $60 MSRP is only a $12 discount, which isn't really significant enough to go nuts for. :-# But still, there are some titles that I'm just itching to get!

I'll go check it out again; thanks for the input guys! :D

my circuit city took out all their point cards it seems (the ones where they have to activate). I'm assuming they had enough with the complaints since i doubt anyone bought them all

Both of you are fanboys.

I'm more pissed off at the fact when I get the 360 in early 2006 only had a 90 day warranty and when it broke down, they tried to charge 250 to repair it and then proceeded to blame ME for it breaking down stating that their hardware was stable. THAT is what pisses me off more then the nickel and diming.

They're both great consoles in all honesty, but Microsoft until they were forced to extend warranties treated their customers like ABSOLUTE SHIT.

And my circuit city is picked clean. The best thing I could find was NBA Homecourt for 9.99. I'm sure someone already bit on that deal.
