if you have one of those CC Credit Cards do you have to pay the remaining balance on it if they would completely go UNDER and fold???
I'm wondering if the $40 I have built up in "CC Rewards" is even going to be around shortly (or worth anything at all).

Damn, 2 of the CCs in my area are not on the website. I say damn because one of them was always good in regards to having clearance games in stock. I still have 5 CCs left.
I wonder if the ones staying open will still do clearance on games since there didn't seem to be a list in October.

The commentor's on Consumerist are saying that's the way to tell if your area is affected. If it's true, then St. Louis at least is completely unaffected so far. The story is also updated on Consumerist with a copy of the letter sent to affected CC employees.
The countdown to Speedy and/or Cheapy taunting CC outside their corporate office begins!
Edit: TMK I posted that about an hour before you did.Check again the store locator for our area. The Ferguson store isn't listed there any longer, and admittedly, it's way off my beaten path for a store to go to, even by my job, so I can't say how long ago it might have been yanked from there.
The rest of the store list looks correct from the list of stores I keep on my PDA.

All staying open here still.
If I recall, I see the report of them closing EVERY YEAR now and it never really happens around the Chicago area. Not that I want it to though. CC is pretty decent here.

11-02-2008, 11:57 PM
the joilet & calumet city stores are closing around me. The cal city store has decent amount of stuff. I should have hidden stuff.
Local two in Chicago still open for now...
But the one on North next to BB is freaking empty, while the BB next door is bursting.
Yeah been to that one a good amount of times in the past couple of years and it's always very empty. Only go there when they have a game on sale. I've never been to the Best Buy near it since they rarely ever have games on sale. I'll miss the CC on North. It was the easiest one for me access through the EL (red line FTW).

There will be little to no good clearance items there since they're going to move the product to stores that do better. If you saw something there you wanted and was YMMV clearance, then yeah, jump on it.
List comes out tomorrow tho.
incorrect. it is cheaper to liquidate the products compared to shipping them to other stores

Newington, CT and Meriden, CT staying. WTF? These places are ghost towns when I visit them.
I foresee more closures in a year or so.
Yea but thats sorta stating the obvious. Anyone who has been following the company knows that they're basically on the verge of declaring bankruptcy. Its expected some time in 2009. This is just a precursor. I bet we'll see many more closings after the holidays as its currently the best time for them to dump their remaining stock without resorting to store-wide clearances yet.

They're keeping the Fredericksburg, VA, and all the Northern Virginia ones I recognize open, which is good. They make a nice alternative to BB, the PMing is good, and I like the $10 gift card deals they do with a bunch of new games.
Still, not counting on anything CC for deals come 2009. Glad I don't know anyone who works at one.

I am by the City of Industry one and I heard that they will start clearance sale on Wed.
The CC here is part of the mall, and the mall is getting pretty empty. Next to it is Linen's and Things, also going under. And then there's Steve & Berry's. CompUSA was in this mall 2 years ago, and that space has been empty ever since. Ouch, just ouch..

11-03-2008, 12:31 AM
I'm guessing they just closed all the new format stores? The City, huh, more like the shitty.
Keeping the ones in Portland, OR I guess.
Be careful with the liquidations, if it goes like the CompUSA ones, the only good deals were the last few weeks, and even then you had to know what you were buying first. I saw lots of people buy $20 xbox games for $50 with 20% off, because it was a store closeout.......
i did score an extra apple magsafe adaptor, a copy of Leopard, some small computer odds and ends, and a few $1 video game guides for my effort the last few weeks (and the last day for the $1 guides.)

incorrect. it is cheaper to liquidate the products compared to shipping them to other stores
Not always true. I have been involved in the oversight of liquidations of a couple of large electronics retailers and depending on the type of item, sometimes they get shipped back to the distributor so they can recoupe some of their money, some items will get sold at wholesale prices to distributors or liquidators before the public is allowed to buy them and typically only those items which would be more expensive to ship than a certain percentage of the profit margin get liquidated at the store level. That's why a lot of stores have that picked over look even if you get there on liquidation day number one.

1 CC is closing near me. I didn't read through the entire thread but take note that if CC does go bankrupt, your Gift cards will be useless. I would not recommend buying any gift cards, or jumping on deals with free gift cards (unless you will be able to use the gc right away).

It looks like gift cards won't be accepted after Monday. I believe that the affected stores will be closed on Tuesday for retagging and will reopen on Wednesday run by liquidators. GC's can probably still be used on the website but if you want to use them up now be sure to get in your store Monday.

Kind of suprised that all three in Grand Rapids, MI are still on the list... I really can't stand any of them and they are never really busy. Also a little suprised that the Saginaw one isn't closing... It is kind of run-down, and three of the four times I have gone down there to get some clearance games for flipping, there was at least one game that had been jacked from its case.

Honestly... despite stuff that happens there to the contrary, and I've had some bad experiences myself, I am sadden by the closings.
In reality, it just shows that-
A) Economy sucks
B) Less Competition means less deals
C) More people out of work equals more hardships for the rest of us to work / deal with the financial situation.
I'm sure the folks at BBY are enjoying CC closing a bunch of stores, but as one of you mentioned, that means BBY which already is named Worst Buy by many will continue to give us crappy sales and less of a reason to give us deals / price match along with all the other B&M stores... Sure we got online, but even then, you got other factors to deal with...
In a sense, they doomed themselves by some crappy and questionable business moves, but at least they had some decent new release and post release sale prices when I needed them the most...
Overall, its a catch 22, we glad they closing, but sucks we losing a counterweight to the Worst Buys of the world...
As for the locator, it looks like I'm losing Pomona, City of Industry, Anaheim/Fullerton...

There's one store that I remember being there that's not on this list. So they either already closed or are going to close. Also, there are like 13 stores in a 100-mile radius of me. I'm going to say 8 are going to be closing.

The CC store that just opened last year in my area (Norman, OK) is closing. It was the smallest Circuit City that I have ever seen, but I never saw anyone in there. I have to admit that I did like the layout of that small CC as it was easier to find items than the larger CCs and Best Buys.

I've noticed a common theme in this thread....
Posters going "Store X is not closing, and I don't know why, because nobody goes there/bad business...."
I was thinking the same thing when the hattiesburg store showed up. It's in a ho-hum position, literally eye sight of; a mall, office depot, sears (all share the same land plot!) wal mart, target, radioshack (all these stores are within a .25 mile radius of each other!)
and oh yea....Toys R US and BB....just half a mile down the road!
what I'm saying is CC isn't the only boy in town so the speak....and when I go there, I can easily grab the "best" parking space if you know what I mean. So, I'm shocked that business wise they feel it's best to keep it. But, then again....I'm not running CC and as a consumer I like the fact they're staying!

Many have said it, but nuts to all of the Phoenix area stores closing. I can't believe they can't be bothered to at least keep one store in Mesa open and one or two in Phoenix. Especially considering there's a fairly new store in Gilbert AND the new one I had advertised on the radio three or four months in Queen Creek? (IIRC)

I'm a little dull...
what does it mean to an average consumer when their local CC closes? (apparently the store locater listed the cc round where I live as still being up.... I went in today there were only 9 customers including me)
Will it mean clearance galore? Or just finding a sign in front of CC stating that they are no longer open.

According to Gizmodo, the stores closing will be in the Midwest.
However, It's really hard to know for sure which sources are the most reliable.
We should know sometime today.
If I were to take a guess, I would guess it will be 100% based on the performance of each store. Not the location of each store.

According to Gizmodo, the stores closing will be in the Midwest.
In this thread alone we've got reports of CA, VA, MI, & FL closings.
It doesn't get more midwest than Nebraska: the one in Lincoln is still showing up. The one in Omaha closed at least 7 years ago, they were ahead of the curve.
I'd definitely say it's performance/competition over geographical location.
Also: I'm seeing 10 locations within 100 miles of Cheyenne, WY. 9 of them are in CO, 1 is in Cheyenne where there's no Best Buy to compete against.

Even though they're always a ghost town, all the ones in Florida have a momentarily stay of execution (at least all those that I ever shop at.)

Wasn't that often, plus, there's the St. Louis Mills store about 10 miles from there that's a much nicer store.
Yeah, I'm wondering how the SoCo store does manage to survive all this time, as that's the closest one to me, though they never really have much for movies or games when they go on sale, compared to the Gravois Bluffs store.
I was out in Gravois Bluffs last week and wanted to run to Sonic to pick up something to eat, and was quite surprised to see that it was gone. :( I don't think the Circuit City out that way would go anywhere unless all the MO store were closing, as that one is the only one in the area besides the SoCo store.

Definitely suprised by the Auburn Hills, Bloomfield, and Rochester Hills, MI closings. Those are some of the wealthiest parts of MI (and Oakland County being one of the wealthiest in the country) and you would think that business would be good there.
On the other side, not suprised that the Muskegon and Pontiac, MI locations are closing. I've seen crack houses that look better.
Also suprising to see that there are so many closings in other states (i.e. IL, GA, OH). I was expecting more in MI I guess seeing as our state has the worst econonmy in the country.

CC was great for deals and PMing at BB. I got a KILLER deal on my HDTV and surround system which lead to a career as a DVD reviewer that more than paid for the theater in free DVDs. I have nothing but love for CC and am sad to see it in such dire straits.

Definitely suprised by the closings of Auburn Hills, Bloomfield, and Rochester Hills, MI closings. Those are some of the wealthiest parts of MI and you would think that business would be good there.
Yea, I mentioned in another post that I only thought that 1 location was closing in IL but now looking at the list it looks like there's going to be a lot more with adding in 1 of 2 chicago locations also closing.
Oh well...

very surprising that the only one near me that is closing is the one in Palisades Center Mall in West Nyack NY....maybe the lease is up and probably too expensive to renew
there are quite a few others in my area that seem to do horrible business but they are all standalone stores and appear to be safe at the moment

I noticed the one close to my college I went to, in Lafayette, IN (along with a location in Muncie, IN I believe) are being shut down. I'm surprised in a way about the one in my college town being shut down because it was WAY better than the CC in my hometown, but then again I could actually find games there (could be why they are shutting down, not too good of sales).

Wow, looks like the one by me is closing... I don't know whether to look at this as good or bad. The vulture in me is flying in circles above for the best deal... a short term fix. But, I know this is bad in the long run. Best Buy needs SOME competition. Real bad for the industry my friends.

Here's a link to a newspaper article reporting the story. Anyone have a list of the impacted stores?

The one on Flatbush in Brooklyn is closing, and I'm pretty sure they only opened up in September. I remember seeing a bunch of fliers about their grand opening, and there were a decent number of people the one time I went in. Maybe they don't get any business with a Target right next door.

There are no stores closing near me, I guess my area has already had enough stores close with Media Play, Kmart and Toys R Us closing. Kind of surprising since both of the CC's near me are located in shopping plaza's where you have a ton of different stores to go to and they don't appear to have much business.

I'm not surprised, they just opened and when I pass by it never seems occupied, only been open for around 2 months. Sux for the workers though. finally get a job in a bad economy and then your employer goes out of business. very weak.

I'm surprised the one that's about a 20ish minute drive from my house isn't on that list as that place not only still has the "classic" CC look with it being circular and all dark inside, but also felt like a very unsafe the one and only time I've gone to it. I am kind of surprised to see the store in Tysons Corner VA closing as I thought that place would be doing good business since it's in an upscale high traffic area. Though maybe the lease was too high as was mentioned earlier.

I'm positive the lease wasn't cheap, as that entire area is quite upscale, primarily due to the luxury goods offered at both Tysons Corner malls. Also I believe Best Buy just opened a new store less than a year ago down the street (or at least relocated the store).
Guess I'll be visiting Manassas store sometime this week...

Yeah, what's up with all the closings at the Palisades Mall? Seems like any new store or restaurant that opens up chugs along till it shuts down in a year or so.
I remember the grand opening of that Fox Sports Grill and other smaller stores to only come back and see them closed down. It dosen't help that a quarter of the top floor is vacant either.

I guess I was surprised since the last time I was at Tysons Corner during the opening day of The Dark Knight, it seemed like at least the mall part of Tysons was doing well with plenty of shoppers carrying bags of purchases and all, but clearly CC wasn't feeling enough of that love.
I remember Best Buy having a store across the street sharing a building with Borders or something, so is that the store they might've relocated?
The other one is the Towson store up in MD. I used to live in VA though so I keep an eye on both areas.

You won't see anything real good for some time, and by the time they actually have a decent percentage off anything, most of the good stuff will already have been bought by the rubes. As others have pointed out, you have to remember that how this works is that a company that deals in liquidation has bought up the inventory, and they are now in-charge. So, they are in this to make a profit, unlike a small company, let's say, that is simply doing their own clearance and just want to make back as much money as they possibly can.

It's the liquidators that will be doing to sale. All the employees will be doing is handling the stock, prices and ringing people up until the store closes for good.
Looking at the list of stores closing, kinda shocked neither store in the Dayton, OH is closing. Both stores was never that busy when I went in there.

Ugggh.. Living in Phoenix, I can't believe I have to drive to Tucson to shop at CC. All 13 stores are closed in Phoenix, but they leave both stores in Tucson open? They couldn't leave one? Just more proof that CC is run by a bunch of idiots.
are the stores that are closing going to get new release like Valkyria Chronicles or new CoD?

Pretty sure the sale starts this Wednesday 11/5 because the liquidators are coming in today tomorrow (11/4) and marking the prices down while the stores are closed.

UPDATE:
Gift cards WILL be accepted after Monday, 11/3.
All stores will be closed Tuesday, 11/4 to allow for the retagging and repricing of all merchandise and will reopen Wednesday, 11/5.
Return policies will be honored on all purchases made through Monday, 11/3 (meaning you will have 14 or 30 days from the original purchase date, depending on the item, to make a return).
Any purchases made on Wednesday, 11/5 and after are final (this is when the liquidators take over).

Wow. I can't believe all the MN stores are staying open.
I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that Circuit city only has to compete with BB in MN. And doesn't have to compete with Fry's.

What should be interesting is if clearance games will still be on clearance. I can imagine a $16.96 game will go back up to $59.99 (especially if it is currently tagged $59.99), and then 10% off so $54.

Odd. 1 store is opening within 10 miles of another store here, but other stores on the outskirts of the city are shutting down.
I guess its to be expected since the Riverchase Galleria store is probably one of their better performing stores.

Don't expect anything good the first 3-4 weeks. Liquidators can mark UP prices then give a small discount to a few dollars below the pre-mark up price. If you do buy something INSPECT IT BEFORE LEAVING THE STORE.
PC Games will probably get a good discount as most stores don't make money on them vs 360/ps3/wii games.

The worst thing about this whole deal to me is not being able to price match anymore. Not to mention all the people that would normally line up for cc on black friday will now all be at bb, making it even more crazy.
No more crazy cheap pc games either.

the CC down the street from me has horrible customer service but I guess Vegas is still productive so it's not closing
The one by the Boulevard mall just opened in like late '06... Right accross the street from the Best Buy (horrible move really but probably better than where it was) but their Customer Service sucks too. It's one of those places that has everything in a case or tied down and still make a person take off their backpack though people can come in with purses, bags from other stores and strollers but for some reason the guy that's most obvious with the back pack is the biggest threat. The guy that brings the attention to him by having a bag on his back is for some reason more of a threat than someone wiht an open bag in thei hand or accross their shoulder. I hate that place.

Phoenix has lost soo many stores this year, and now CC. It sucks because I usually pick up like 4 games from them on BF that are on sale. Let's hope 13 stores means less competition for good deals?

I called the one in my hometown and asked if they would be open for Thanksgiving sale and was told they too would be doing liquidation sales.
If there was a way to get a new game for $20 (like Fallout 3 or Fable II) that would be awesome, but I'm not expecting it.
What's especially troubling is the shopping center near there is practically a ghost town. There's only PetSmart and Home Depot left along with a few shoe and clothing stores (Goody's recently closed too).

I will pour one out for the employees...but the management can go screw themselves. No matter what, they always manage to screw the little guys over. It was proven last year when they fired more experienced employees and replaced them with those earning less.
It's not good to see competition be eliminated. It's only a matter of time when Best Buy will be be affected when people get fed up with paying full price for more of their products. Well, at least we have Newegg, but their videogame prices aren't too hot.

Something I have been thinking about that I can't figure out is why use a liquidator? The entire company isn't going out of business for now, why not just run the markdowns themselves? It can't be that difficult to figure out what should start at 10% off, 20% off etc. and ship anything that will sell well like an IPod to another store staying open.

I wonder if these liquidation sales will be a scam.
They won't be so much a scam as just plain old overpriced. You'll see games that dropped to $10-30 for the current gen on clearance be jacked back up to $50-60, among other prices being raised back up.
You'll also see that most of the 'good stuff' has been shipped off to other stores that aren't closing and what is left that might be good will be snapped up by the Joe Shmoes and Suzy Soccer Moms that don't shop around for the best price(including using Amazon, etc).
By the time the percentages reach a good amount off(80-90%), you'll be lucky to find a pack of batteries that's left.
Of course, if you wait long enough, you might be able to pick up a PS2 kiosk featuring an SDtv and a 6-7 year old PS2 that's probably DRE prone and clogged with dust for $250 for the entire kiosk.
That's about all that's left by the last week of operations. Of course, if your store is fairly new and has the PS3/Wii/360 kiosks around with the HDtvs attached, $250 for the kiosk is a steal considering the PS3's inside those ones were probably 20 or 60 gig models and you should be getting the LCD tv with the kiosk.
The typical discount schedule for these kind of sales is 10% for the first week or two, with the %'s going up every week or two until everything is GONE.

I've thought about that before, especially when it comes to companies that are completely closing their doors, and I'm sure someone has a good answer. In a case like this, though, it makes perfect sense. Circuit City is still desperately trying to keep their head above water, so getting money upfront from the liquidator will help them out in the short term.

I don't live near this mall but there is a mall like that here, you would think potential tenants would do some research before opening a business there and look at the number of businesses that have either failed and left the mall or just failed altogether from taking up a location in the mall. If your opening a business, you are just stupid to open one in a place where other businesses are consistently failing. You don't have to do much research either, just visit the mall twice a month to see whats going on. If you don't live nearby and are opening from out of town I am sure there is a way to get the needed information. Over here we have businesses opening in a mall then shutting down 3-6 months later.

You really don't read do you my good friend. The clearance will only last two months because all the stores that are closing will be shutdown completely on 12/31/08. So, most likely the only thing that will be sold is stuff that can't be transferred to the stores that are staying open.

I had a Circuit City that closed down this past summer as they were moving into a new store less then a mile away (The City)
What they did is they took all of the DVDs/CDs/Video Games and shipped them back to the werehouse or distrabution center & sold off all of the display items & between everything else I'm not sure what they did but would think that they sent back everything they still carried and clearanced out the older stuff that they wouldn't have been getting any more shipments of if it sold out. What they did clearance out in store they did the typical store closing clearance deal with the %age getting bigger the closer they came to closing.
I can't say for sure this is what these stores closing down will do but it could end up being a pretty good guideline for how they handle clearancing out stuff from these closing stores.
This new store has been useless as far as clearance stuff goes since it opened up in July since they got a whole new stock of games so some of the older clearance stuff that was at the old store was gone once it was shipped off from the old store.

Damn, this sucks. Most of the CCs near me are all closing. Two of them literally just opened less than four months ago. I remember going to the grand openings. The new stores were just named "The City" minus the "Circuit" part. I can't believe those brand new stores are closing already.
Now I'll have to drive a whole lot farther to get to a CC. I'm seriously upset about this since I probably buy more games from CC than any other store. Most of my current game collection is from their stores!

My Circuit City was overrun this morning. The sales purportedly ranged from 10%-30% off, though I didn't see anything that was more than 20% off... My Circuit City was overrun this morning. The sales purportedly ranged from 10%-30% off, though I didn't see anything that was more than 20% off... I honestly couldn't understand why so many people were buying so many things. I spent ten minutes walking around the store, and honestly couldn't find anything that couldn't be found cheaper either via coupons at B&M stores or online.
Agreed...

But surprisingly they still got their shipment of games for this week. I'm gonna watch and see if I'm able to snag something like Legendary or something for 30% off maybe even up to the 50% mark if it lasts.

Hopefully this will encourage a chain like Fry's to expand because there is definitely room for two electronics stores if there's room for both Bed Bath and Beyond and Linen and Things (why do they always build them right next to each other?).
For the love of god I hope that Fry's will get a fucking clue by all this and open up some stores in places other than California or Texas.

Does anyone know if the clearance titles (8.96/12.96/16.96) are still those prices or has everything been marked back up to be "marked down"?

I asked in my CC and they said the markdowns were from the existing prices (clearance included) however in mine all games were only marked 10% off so far (both console and PC) and that basically just covers tax in NY. I'm gonna wait till a larger markdown and see if I can scoop Fallout 3 for the PC and maybe some Wii games.

I don't know why so many of you are are surprised by the pricing structure. It's SOP for any retailer going out of business. CompUSA did it, Media Play did it, Linen's N' Things is doing it, etc. The percentages get progressively larger the longer the sale goes. I know this may come as a surprise to some but liquidators are in this to make money. It's essentially a crapshoot for customers. Wait for a larger discount and risk the product not being there or get it now to be sure.
neocisco, do you know if closing stores are going to get new release like GoW2?
I didn't think so but my store got it in today along with Resistance 2. Most likely it will vary from store to store, depending on where it was in transit when the closings were announced.
h3llbring3r
11-05-2008, 04:32 PM
Yea, after the CompUSA and MediaPlay liquidations I don't even bother with the stores that use those "store liquidation services." Marking items back up then mark it down incrementally, what a waste of my time. The real interesting thing is some of these services bring in their own outside junk to sell, that was never even in the store to begin with (I think that is where the services make there "bank").
I bet if you did a cost value analysis of all the labor and operating costs involved that just marking everyting down rapidly over a week nets about the same result.

I went to two stores yesterday, Chandler and Scottsdale, AZ. The Scottsdale store already had Gears in the back. But they had a sign saying that ads deals and promotions were not being honored. Talking to a manager confirmed this. So YMMV if you can get someone to do it. They will give you 5% off the game though. Oh, and no Gamer Club cards are valid anymore. Or the $15 of $100 coupons. Maybe you can use those online? I haven't paid attention to that.

If you have problems with gift cards at your local store, READ THIS POST.
If you have a store that isn't accepting gift cards, print this letter out and show it to the boob at the register:
http://files.shareholder.com/downloads/CC/455844043x0x245807/DA125404-7D2E-4350-B682-A082DC4162F5/Letter%20to%20Guests.pdf
Show them paragraph 3, where it says:
"We will continue to honor our
policies on gift cards, Circuit City Advantage Protection PlansŪ and all other customer commitments. In
fact, every promise we make to you - our guests - is as important as ever."
Edit:
Alternately, you can print and show them the Guest Q&A:
http://files.shareholder.com/downloads/CC/455844043x0x245806/718BE4B9-9868-474A-AB5E-70669198225C/110308%20Guest%20Q
Point them to question #2:
"2. If the store near me is closing, will warranties, gift cards and store credit still be honored?
We have made no changes to our policies on gift cards, Circuit City Advantage Protection PlansŪ or
any customer commitment. In fact, they are as important as ever, and we stand behind every
promise we make to our guests."

My CC had marked up stuff like on DVD sell them for 21.99. Was going to get Get Smart this week but I decide to get it at Target because it really not a deal with them marking stuff up. The only deals are 10% of TV, and big electrionic. But there no way there going to be 40% off. They will just ship the product they didn't sell to another store.

Yeah, and as they said in the article caveat emptor, as the CompUSA liquidator did indeed mark-up prices on certain items to partially or completely nullify the discount. Luckily no CCs in my area are closing up, so I won't have to worry about some pathetic clearance.

CC.com's music/movies is handled by a third party company as if you look at... say... SamGoody.com you will see its the exact same everything that CC.com uses. That's why there are some major price differences on some items in store and online.... and why also the One Price Promise has said items excluded on it.

Gordon Brothers is the company who is running this and they are the same company that did CompUSA and Kmart liquidations, I am not sure about TRU and Media play but its likely they were involved too. I am really lucky I don't live near a closing CC because now I don't have to worry about this crap clearance that would make me spend more money than I need to.

Darn, I would have bought 1,000 shares at that price. It's probably a waste of money but I'd only be out $20. It's now $0.11
The stock has been halted FYI.

This situation reads much like the place I bartended at the last few months, except for the "money to pay employees" part.
which sounds like benigians

I don't think Circuit City ever made a whole lot of money from bottom-dollar buyers in the first place.
I never did much like them, anyways. Their selection was always shit, and even though their sales were good, you had to be there right at opening day on the sale (or buy and retroactively return for the difference) just to get any kind of deal.
As long as I can get in on some of the liquidation, I don't much care either way.

Yeah, and as they said in the article caveat emptor, as the CompUSA liquidator did indeed mark-up prices on certain items to partially or completely nullify the discount. Luckily no CCs in my area are closing up, so I won't have to worry about some pathetic clearance.
HAHA
they will get even less money with those prices, people cant be that stupid to buy something thats marked up 40 bucks but they only save 20...

We should bail them out. Then they can continue to keep paying those 9 people I see standing around doing nothing at mine.

Trickle down economics. We bailout CC, they pay their employees, and Burger King, cable porn operators, and local weed dealers stay economically solvent.

The weirdest part is like they have one register and its at the return/customer service counter.. I have actually seen long lines of like.... 4 people before and it sucks waiting in a long ass 4 deep line. Seriously.

Ha, good for Speedy!!! :D Let their lawyers actually take care of something a little more important.
I always hated their pushy salespeople, and can't tell you how many bad experiences they gave me. It's about time they folded!! :applause: I actually feel like dancing in the streets like when some 3rd world dictator gets overthrown!! \\:D/

Bwahahahaha!
Seriously though, I feel badly for the people who were relying on CC to pay their bills but my god did that store ever suck dicks. They consistantly tried to wiggle out of various deals; be it the "Buy CoD4, get CoD3 for free" one or the "Game must be in stock by 2pm or you get a free giftcard" ones.

How sad. I bet KB Toys is next, followed by TRU. Wal-Mart will soon run Earth.

Considering their stock is trading at 26 cents the last time I checked, I expect Chapter 7 to happen real soon.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Circuit City Stores Inc. owes Hewlett-Packard Co. more than $118 million, The Wall Street Journal reported on its Web site Monday, citing court papers filed in Circuit City's Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. The newspaper also said that Circuit City owes nearly $116 million to Samsung Electronics Co. and $60 million to Sony Corp. . A Hewlett-Packard spokeswoman did not comment on whether the company is still shipping merchandise to Circuit City, according to the Journal."
i would guess they are not shipping new supplies. if they were they would say it. this shows a complete lack of confidence on the part of the suppliers.

I kind of figured CC would be gone. Now the question is whether or not they'll be gone this year or next.

I'm sitting on a $10 gift card and $70 rewards certificate I was going to use to help buy an Elite. Of course, every fucking store in a 50 mile radius is sold out of the holiday bundle. No big deal, I was just going to try to sell the two games and make back another 20 bucks or whatever they are going for.
So for those more familiar with the process stores go through at this point - do you think I should just buy the Elite without the bundle (or get someone else to buy the bundle for me at a store near them and ship it to me), or will stores be replenished in the coming days/weeks?
I don't care either way, the point is I just want to use these things before something happens where suddenly my discounts are not able to be used. I know the stores aren't closing up RIGHT THIS SECOND but I'd rather get it over with now.

Jesus titty-farking Christ. I guess the thing about Sony demanding that shipments in transit to CC be sent back probably has some truth to it.
