So Happy to see them go under

Horrid service

What a horrid thing to say. I hope you realize that when everyone reads your post, you are consequently saying putting thousands of people out of their jobs makes you happy and you are willing to sacrifice their well being because of a bad experience you had at one of the hundreds of stores they had.

Yah.. I worked there, and you know how many complaints I ever had? 0. How many times I didn't show up for work? 0. How much money I saved the consumer on bundles I worked with managers matching stores and places I didn't have to? I probably saved people more money than I ever did working there for 2 years..

The store closes in 2 days people. Most stores have NO TV's left, NO games left, NO Blu-Ray movies left, NO DVD's left unless we are talking some really crappy movies, NO GPS left, and nothing but crappy CD's.

So if you are driving around hoping for a bargin looks elsewhere.

That is very true. I go to the nearby Circuit City today, they literally have nothing left except for the Scene It! game for $2.00. Last Saturday, they still have like over 100 guitar heroes and tons of cables left. But today, nothing at all....

The one at the Erskine avenue exit on the Belt Parkway had some good games left on Thursday. I scored The Orange Box, Portal, and ET:QW for $15.00

Diablo Battle Pack was $12, but I passed on that. Other than PC games, they only had a few crappy DVD's.

yeah nearly nothing at all at CC in Salisbury, MD. I got 2 of their 20 CD's they had left and one of their 5 copies of Carnivale season 2 (the only DVD they had left) for like $13 total. I've never seen the show, but I figure someone must like it if I don't!

scored left 4 dead for about $17 in san antonio, last one. the disc was lose in the case so it was a little scratched, nothing a microfiber cloth couldn't fix. installing now to see if it works, im seriously backed up on PC games, i could probably play 2hr a day everyday for 2 months and still not get through the games i have sitting on the side. fallout 3, FC2, Orange box, Spore, COH, Alone in the dark, Prince of persia, Quantum of solace, etc. im not complaining though, i love being a PC gamer even though i play some games with a 360 controller to prevent getting carpal tunnel.

Went to Van Nuys,CA tonight and kind of wish I hadn't, unless you wanted a 50/100 pack of the *crap* Nexxtech DVD discs, random car audio installation parts, or the industrial grade component cables they used for $15, they had NOTHING. (well, one or two of the 3-packs of Blurays)

Of course the line was still huge.. people buying wireless keyboards without the receivers (the cashier tried to explain to the guy but he wanted his damn keyboard), etc. I think people are just frantic to get a good deal at this point.

I was debating wasting my time at a different store, kinda wish I would have. ;)

As of now the CC by me probably still has TONS of those three packs of Blu-Ray movies(nothing good in them though) and some CD's from artists I've never heard of and never wanted.

Although, I'm sure that the stores probably also have tons of Hancock and whatever other movies it was they had assloads of the last time I was there.

Oh yeah, that last Indiana Jones movie(which sucked by the way), that was the other bleh movie they had tons of left.

CC was good for their clearance titles. But each month, they raised their clearance prices just a buck or two, so people got in the habit of raiding that bin, and in the end, it was hardly a discount at all.

As we learned from the Watchmen film ... it's ok to sacrifice a couple thousand people if it inevitably means world peace ... and less crappy service from a store that truly raised the bar on commission based sales annoyance ... I'll cry for CC when I'm dead ... good day Sir ... I said, good day

True...YOU may have been one of the exceptional employee's but as for myself, if I did not know the employee personally it took forever to find someone and if I did most times I would get a very poor attitude. Most folks who worked there who did have a great attitude like yourself were very few and far between. While it is regrettable that those who work for CC are losing their jobs, I will NOT miss the attitude. I think the people who were poor employees at CC was one of the big reasons that eventually lead to their downfall.

You obviously don't understand how unemployment works. I know in the state of PA, you collect 80% of the your average wages. If people are currently living paycheck to paycheck, a 20% loss of income is murder. Additionally, if they were to pick up a part time job, that income would be deducted from the unemployment payment.

How do I know? I'm currently collecting Unemployment since losing my job in January. Fortunately for myself, I've managed to rework my budget, making lots of sacrifices (and getting public assistance for my daughter) and I have extra money at the end of the month.

While it's similar to a paid vacation, it's far from it.

Although I agree with you, and I am certainly not trying to turna negative into a positive, the CC folks are in a pretty good position.

Most people that have lost their jobs, dont get any kind of notice, you go into work one day and then you get blindsided by the news that you dont have a job. The CC folks have known for MONTHS that they will need to look for another job. Ample time to look for the next thing. If they start drawing unemployment its kinda their own fault at that point, they have had months to look for their next job.

It is really sad how heartless and closed minded some people can be.

Unemployment
Anyone who thinks unemployment is a positive has never been on it. Obviously, it's better than nothing but the truth of the matter is that the unemployment is a demoralizing and depressing experience and for most people then we'd rather be dealing with the stress and fatigue that comes with regular employment than to lose a job (no matter how menial).

Retail Jerks
Every negative comment about CC employees can also be applied to every other retail store. You really need to be on the other side of the counter for a week and you'll start to understand that there are a lot more jerky customers in the world than jerky employees. For the amount you get paid then it really is tough to have a nice smooth sailing line of customers only to have everything get derailed by that one customer who walks in with a BB ad that not only feels they DESERVE to pay less than everyone else, but is also demanding that free Pokemon stylus the competitor is offering. We can admit it, we're cheap asses and it's not hard to see how our antics and attempts to save $5 can range from annoying to downright obnoxious.

Cheap Ass Games
ESPECIALLY for CAGs then NOBODY should be happy to see CC go under. No matter how overpriced places like CC, CompUSA or whoever is, their very existance benefitted cheap asses like ourselves. You think Best Buy is going to start being competetive now that they have less competition? As much as we threaten to take our business solely online, we still rely on B&M for those quirky bargains that you can't get anywhere else. Less retail chains means less bargains.

Okay, sorry for the lecture but with this thread winding down then I just felt it needed to be said.

Couldn't have said it better... I too am collecting the government check, but I would much rather be secure in the fact that I was going to work every morning than having all that "free" time to spend on here... :)

Oh yeah, and in Indiana you only get a max of $390 a week... no matter what you made before... BIG adjustment.

I feel for all those who will now be joining us in line, but I really can't say that I will miss the city of circuits and all the frustration and let down they have provided over the years.

My local KB Toys did the same thing. I went on the final day they were supposed to open because at another KB on their final day everything was 90% off, I go and see them packing up stuff and they never opened. Very fusturating, especially because I'm sure they had some games left.

St. Pete has 27 Plasma Screen TVs on LATE Thursday night, and someone else reported to me that there was at least a dozen on Friday afternoon. I was holding out for today. When they opened, they were all gone. I have a feeling they finally dropped to 70% (They were 50% on Thursday) and sold to Employees or friends therof.

Last night at the Clearwater Store, they had 90% off of those damn Wii Fit Yoga Mats. They were gone, but someone stashed 2 behind the counter. I went to grab them, and the manager said someone probably bought them so I couldn't have them. LOL

So today at St Pete I bought one (only 80% off surprisingly) and also the Spore Behidn the Scenes book for $2.50.

Not for me! I was there at 10am and here is my load:

I am Legend - DVD = $2.20

CDs
Ferras = $1.20
Jet Black Stone = $1.00
Charlotte Sometimes = $1.00
One Block Radius = $1.20
The Hold Steady = $1.30
G. Love = $1.30
From First to Last = $1.00
Rev Theory = $1.00

These are for half.com

CDs
Connor Oberst = $1.30
Omar Rodriguez-Lopez = $1.30
Ryan Adams (Cardinology) = $1.30 (x2)
Alkaline Trio = $1.30
Cold War Kids = $1.30 (x2)
Paolo Nutini = $1.40

I was shocked that the store had tons and tons of PC games like Bioshock, Grand Theft Auto and others for 90%. I mean Bioshock for $4? Thats a deal!

My wife also got some premium photo paper for $4 and a special battery for her watch for $2.xx.

They had a ton of Metal Gear Solid guides for $2 which I am pissed because I got mine in Denton for $4 :booty:

Goodbye Circuit City , it was fun to have these massive purchases...

3. They had months to look for a job? It was more like 1 month or so. This is not enough time to find a job when 4.4 million people have lost their jobs since Dec of 2007. I have met people who have been looking for a job for 1 year. These people have bachelor's degrees and they still cannot get a job. Its not like you need 1 or 2 months and you will find a job right away.

Lots of things were 90% at my store (Pasadena CA). Got there at 10 and was a large crowd. Not too much left in store though - only a few PC games in terms of video games. The external HDDs had dropped to 60% though and lots of people (including me) went for them ($52 for 320GB WD Passport). The poor guy working there was originally trying to take them to the checkout to purchase but eventually had to give up and just unlocked the cabinets.

They had only 2 checkouts open though (one cash only), so the wait in line took forever! But on the upside everyone was chatting to each other while waiting and comparing deals and there was a good atmosphere. Bye to CC!

Today is the last day at Northridge, CA-- not a whole lot left, unless you want one of the 50,000 spindles of Nexxtech DVDs. BTW, these discs are utter crap-- if you're using them for fast one-off, one-viewing copies or something it's OK but don't expect your data to stay... I felt bad for the people stocking up thinking they were getting an awesome deal, they even had a sign at the door "Best Buy price: $40!!" which is fairly misleading when Nexxtech is the crappy CC store brand. I've read many reviews of people saying 30-45 discs per 50 spindle were bad! I bought a few yesterday at Van Nuys (for $6 instead of $3 :P), not thinking I'd end up at a CC today, but just for quick test burns and such at work..

They were putting out a number of external HDDs, I did buy an external Toshiba 400GB drive for $60 (it was marked at $64 and the guy working the area told me the price was correct but by the time I braved the massive line the cashier added an extra discount! as best I can find online the drive goes for $90-$120 so not a great deal but a good price), some RG6 coax for $1.30, and the 3-pack Blurays (Night at the Museum, Invincible, and 50 First Dates) for $9. They had some Simpletech HDDs ranging from 320GB ($56, I think?) to 500GB (around $90-- which Amazon sells for $80).

But probably not worth going to unless you want to stand in a very, VERY long line.

I got excited when i saw a Saitek Cyborg mouse but it still rang up at only 60% off (30 bucks) so i passed. Got an Elliot Yamin christmas cd for my mom. lol. Bye CC. You will be missed by me. I'm afraid of the prices being even higher at BB now since they officially have no competition in South fla.

So true about the no competition thing. CompUSA? Bwahahaha, yeah right. People who shop at Brandsmart are sub-human.

There really is no other electronic retailer, except Walmart to an extent.

I was thinking about picking up a DSLR camera and I found a book on DSLR Cameras for Dummies for $1 at Circuit City.....so yeah...I scored today.

Its sad to see Circuit city go...I have found some great deals there throughout the years. I still have unopened games from the $4.99 deal many years ago too.

I brought the same book to the counter at the Circuit City in Tigard, OR (Portland suburb) and they wanted $25 for it...... They didn't bat and eye or think the price was out of line. They were a bit shocked that I thought $25 for a book was full price and not a deal....

After I said there was no way I was going to buy it someone went back and talked a manger, then they said $5. I went ahead and bought it, hopefully I learn something about DSLR's that I don't already know.

My haul for today was 2 dummies books for $5 each (One on DSLR, One on Video Recording), 2 10' USB extention cables ($4.something each) and a PC copy of Shadowrun for $5.

(I used the month code included to extend my xbox gold, and will give the game to my brother so we can attempt cross platform play sometime now that Live for Windows is free.)

Yesterday I was there (before the 90%) and they had employees just goofing off, making wiseass announcements on the loudspeakers, and behaving like idiots. Today they had one guy checking out several people, while the rest just talked among themselves no matter how long the line became. All of the people there were around high school age, so I'm guessing that they were not the staff that was employed before the liquidation, rather just some high school kids they recruited when the "real" staff moved onto other jobs or just quit.

I feel sorry for those people who are losing their jobs, but I can't say I'm sorry that Circuit City went out of business. It was a long time coming, starting when they fired their entire staff a couple of years ago because they had to pay them more than a new hire off the street.....

Yeah it's really scary. Although I've been hating CC more and more over the last couple years (mostly due to the idiots they had working at ours), I've realized that I'm REALLY going to miss that store. Like a lot of people I can't stand best buy. People who don't really know anything about electronics think its the greatest store ever but its a disgrace. What kind of store sells Computers and HDTV's without giving customers any info on specs? At bb, you are lucky to get a processor speed without having to go into the computer's system specs. Same thing with tv contrast ratio, etc. And good luck finding an honest employee when everyone works on comission. I can;t tell you how many time's I've heard "oh yes. this 100 dollar monster cable is the only way to go" in that store. Annoying but i digress....

But yeah CompUSA and Brandsmart are both filled with mediocre deals and (like you said) the lowest of the low in terms of clientele.

Circuit City near Hollywood (I think on Sunset?) is completely closed now (as of about an hour ago). They didn't have any games besides Warhammer Online, but I did pick up 300 DVD-Rs for $9 ($1.50 for 50), so I was happy with that. Cheaper than they sell 'em in China!

Also had a bunch of USB cables, Wiimote protectors, DSLR and Digital Video for Dummies, and Lexmark printer cartridges.

When books were 30% off, someone in front of me tried to buy that some book and it rang up for $25. He said it should be $21, since it was $29.99 originally. They said there was nothing they could do and the cashier suggested he just use google to look up the information rather than buy the book.

He demanded a manager but I'm not sure what happened next.

Dropped by a couple Targets today to see if I can find Tomb Raider/Silent Hill for $15 (Nope, didn't find those at that price).

I was like "What the hell, I am going to drop by Circuit City to see what they have" Since they were actually close by. (I was originally gonna stay home but going to Target was the main reason)

Just as I expected, they have nothing quality left.

All I got was a few PC Gamer magazines, Maximum PC magazines about $1.80 each. Video Dummies book for $3 (Guess what, these also have coupons you can get a rebate, but I don't know if it works at CC though) plus Janet Jackson CD ($1.4).

Too Human Strategy guide. (Which is 1 penny at BB)

Tons of Donna Summers left!

And, they still have plenty of Warhammer online and Conan Online game and I am gonna wait til tomorrow for these. Today, I am NOT dropping $8+ for them.

Another CC store I went 2 days ago have the blu-ray bundle by like 30+ quantity at least. Gonna go tomorrow to see if I can get it for less?

The Circuit City in Wilkes-Barre, PA is closed already. I was down there tonight to see if I could snag a copy or nine of Hancock or the latest Indy Jones flick, but the gate was already down over the doors and the lights were all off.

Circuit City is NOT open tomorrow. Today is the last day nationwide - tomorrow, they'll only be open for fixture sales.

I picked up (miraculously) two 1GB Kingston PC5300 RAM sticks for $5/each. One was left on the shelf, and the other was being carried around the store by a lady that clearly had no idea what she was buying, leading to her setting it down and me snagging it. Just about everything in the store was gone save for a dozen CD's and an absolute metric fuckton of USB printer cables for $0.50.

Cary, NC CC is officially closed for good (along with my final stash). I had been at the beach since Wednesday and I dropped by tonight at 8:30 to pick up my stash. I was greeted with big "This store is now closed." signs pasted all over the windows. Through the window I could see my stash spot, untouched... calling to me. :(

Some lucky employee breaking down store fixtures tomorrow is going to be very happy with the three PS3 games he'll find. There was an LBP, Resistance 2, and Fallout 3.

To those who lost their stashes during the clearance - here was my strategy (no reason to not share now): at the older CC stores the bottoms of the store fixtures easily flipped up like lids to reveal small compartments. All the things I snagged at 60% lasted five weeks under the fixtures. I had to slowly move them to the front fixtures to avoid being found.

Newer CCs had the fixtures "lids" bolted on, so I just slid stuff underneath the fixtures. Whoever found my stash at the Apex, NC CC was one lucky bastard.

I made a major score. The store made "anything hanging" on pegs $2, so I grabbed all the PS3 component video cables, PSP accessory packs, and wii wireless sensor bars. Ran into a guy who runs a low voltage company (like me), and he had asked to manager if he could take apart the audio room and get some stuff. Manager said yes, so he was taking the monitor and main switch board. I asked to do the same with the video wall, so I started grabbing component video cables. They let me back into the roped off areas to get all the cables, and I saw 1)a blue box that said "HD View" and 2) a DS display with the DS in it. I grabbed the HD View box, and took apart the DS display and put it in my cart(figured it won't hurt to try). We ended up with 2 carts and a large tote full of stuff. The guy who took the switch and monitor checked out first, and offered $30 for all the stuff, and the manager said "no, make it $40"--like that 10 bucks matters. I checked out next and the girl just rang my box of stuff at $30, then did a quick glance at the other stuff and said "how bout 15 items?"...we said sure, so she rang up 15x2, then she charged 2 bucks for each PSP accessory pack, which were up in the "seat" area of the cart. They didnt say a word about the DS display, or the HD View. I later found out the HD View is an 80 GB video player (pretty much a media extender with a HD built in), I found it for $600 on a couple of websites. Total out the door: $77 What I got:
25x Component video cable (very heavy duty, thick shielded cables...commercial grade) each 14' long
3 component cabes just like above except 30'
6 PSP accessory kits
8 Wii wireless sensor bars
17 PS3 component cables
2 random HDMI cables
1 KillaWatt tester
4 HDTV video amplifiers/splitters (these are actually worth a decent amt of $$)
2 audio splitters/amps
1 white DS (dirty, but works perfectly) with Mystery Case Files:MillionHeir in it
1 HD View media player

Going back tomorrow during the fixture sale to get the audio distribution system and the rest of the cables and wires I didn't get to today.

Yeah, our store had the "lids" bolted on, as I was going to do this (learned this from working at TRU) Sucks you didn't get your stash.

Figured I would go there today to see if I could get anything and they had nothing. Bunch of USB and Ethernet cables labeled at $25 and 30-40 CD's. Walked out empty handed.

I asked a few people and nobody really new. THere was a liquidator there counting what was left and at the end of they day we boxed everything. The only things left to sell are fixtures and stuff in generic Circuit City bags.

There was not much left some Ipod cases, about 20 crappy rap CD's, some odd cords, those Dummy books, and a $900 video camera. I would have loved to have that camera but it was $360 a display model with no battery or anything.

Ain't karma a bitch? I wonder when/if they're gonna move the shelves around at my closest Best Buy, since I tried stashing a WOW Atlas(with bookmarks) about 2 years ago behind the one lowest shelf in the PC game section.

Unfortunately, I didn't have it propped up right against the one support behind the shelf and it went PLOP behind the fuckin' shelf. It's probably still laying there on the floor between the two shelves covered in shitloads of dust by now.

I was gonna offer the employees like $10 for one of the rugs/floormats with the CC logo on it last week at the store that's now closed around me, but I guess I waited too long, huh?

I have a decent collection of shopping bags and other stuff from closed chains lying around here in various spots, including bags from Woolworth's, Ames, Hills and a couple of others including a local store or three.

Guess my chances of getting paul les wireless guitar are slim now.

Probably. I picked up a 360 Les Paul yesterday (as a backup) for $8. There were still plenty left, but it was only morning.

After my experiences with the CompUSA and Sharper Image liquidations, I've decided never to wait until the last day: either the item you want disappears overnight (despite there being dozens on the next-to-last day), or the store experiences premature liquidation (closes early or never opens on the last day).

Still, I'm tempted to see if any Les Pauls are left at opening (at $4?) just for the heck of it.

Also saw those military-grade component cables mentioned above for $10 each. They were extra long and looked rugged, but on closer inspection, they were all filthy and some of the connector pins were tweaked. I don't need to run video the length of my Humvee, so I passed.

It's almost a year since I posted:
After getting denied at BB, PM'd today at CC. They even took off 10% of the difference without prompting. Go redshirts! Make sure you all give some biz to CC; I dread the day when all that's left is BB...

That day is upon us. So long, CC, with your occasional good/great deals, disorganized game racks (specially designed to impede flipping through the cases) and 25-watt lighting.

I know today is a fixture sale, but what if someone happens upon actual merchandise? Will they still sell it or outright refuse? I can't convince myself that I missed getting my stash and I feel like going there today is the only way to absolutely convince myself. I also have no idea when they open today.

Maybe you missed the part where I blatantly said that I'd been at the beach since Wednesday. I could've gotten it today at 90% off, hell, I could've gotten it tomorrow if the store would actually be open. I was expecting the liquidation to last until the end of tomorrow, much like everyone else, so I planned my return from the beach accordingly. Didn't get back to my CC until 8:30, at which point they had already closed up for good (the employees were out in the parking lot, so it looked as if I had barely missed it).

Dude, you are so fucking greedy. Why couldn't you get this at 70% off before you went to the beach on Wednesday? You are greedy and selfish as fuck!

Exactly, they might not have had the best employees but if you've been a CAG for more then a few months you've scored a deal from CC.

Off the top of my head, the 4 gig pro duo card for 19.99 a year ago, fire emblem wii for 12.96, and the wireless controller+20 gig hd combo.

CC will be missed.

My CC didn't have just a fixture sale today. Granted there were only 2 aisles of stuff left and most of it was car radio harnesses and accessories, but there were still a few good deals. About 100 PSP travel kits left so I picked one up. Had some decent headphones inside too. After going to the register and finding out most of the stuff was now 90% off instead of the price on the shelf (usually 60-70% off) I wished I grabbed a couple more things. Picked up:

MGS 4 Strategy Guide - $2
Too Human Strategy Guide - $2
Ninja Gaiden 2 Strategy Guide - $2
Warhammer Online Strategy Guide - $2.50
Warhammer Online Game - $5.00
Age of Conan Game Time Card (odd find) - $2.00
Wii Controller + Nunchuck Skin - $0.50
PSP Travel Kit - $3.00

Wish I grabbed the Diablo Battlechest which would've been $4.00, maybe the PSP component cables for around $3, some $67 headphones which the guy in front of me in line grabbed that rang up as $12, and another travel kit, other than that everything was either uninteresting or useless.

They still had a bunch of portable hard drives but I really don't need one right now. Maybe when I get a new rig later this year it would come in handy but I'll probably buy one with a big hard drive anyway.

The only things a retail store has to offer over an online store are service and clearances. Clearances are chance; service is constant. If service is always poor, you're paying more for a product and being treated badly during the exchange. I don't think I've ever had a positive experience at a CC. I was almost always either lied to or just utterly ignored. The only way I could get help was to walk into the TV section, and then you get 4 commission starved lackeys hounding you to buy X because X is the new Y and the old Y is garbage; if you have Y you should be shot.

If you can't offer good service or good prices, you have nothing to offer your customers.

Circuit City use to be a great place for WWE stuff and today I see a two page ad for WWE stuff in K-Mart. How is K-Mart when it comes to game deals? I haven't looked for games there since they use to carry cheap NES and SNES games.

I noticed some "Help Wanted" signs at some Radio Shack stores. To the former CC employees: Would working there be a step down or a better environment?

Why is everyone jumping all over wesdw369? He could have stated his point a little better and it absolutely sucks that people are losing their jobs, but, before the bankruptcy, Circuit City was not viewed as a great store by a lot of people on CAG. It had a few good deals here and there, but it also had terrible customer service at a lot of locations, specially after the firing of the higher paid employes. Heck, one by me would regularly have trash thrown across the floor and products completely mislabeled; the only reason I would go into the store is if they were having a deal on a game I needed. I really don't wish for any stores to fail, but Circuit City failed for a reason.

It's going to suck having one less competitor for your dollar in the market in either case.

I wonder if CC is going to screw employees over again with not paying them all their hours?

It still takes time for a company to officially shut down. Can't be that CC is dead after today...someone still has to pay the employees so there has to be a number or web site to contact for information.

his celebration is like praising if walmart was going out of business. yeah this is a teeny victory for the small business, but the revenue of the companies that distribute their stuff to walmart, the employees, customers, charities that get affected by walmart, and all the companies that are associated with walmart lose jobs.

same thing applies to circuit city. the employees lose out. the companies and charities associated with circuit city. the customers lose out [NYC for example, now with virgin and cc out of business, all there really is, is best buy. k mart, radioshack, fye are not even on the same level. And while you are at it, why dont you also add GM, Chrysler and Ford. I know there are plenty of haters for these 3 car companies who keep saying to let them go bankrupt and fail, yet there are hundreds of thousands of people that work for companies that do business with these 3 car companies who would then have to shut down if these american car copies go out of business.

Now, would I buy one of their cars? No, I would definitely get Nissan, Honda or Toyota and that's it. Actually, these 3 car companies DO EMPLOY people in the USA and have factories around the country that employ a ton of people.

If the economy was better I'm sure it wouldn't have gotten the response it did, but considering how bad things are in the job market he asked for it with his post.

A lot of people on CAG still went and got deals there despite how they felt about CC. Most of the bad feelings was about the speedy situation, not about finding "that rare PS2 RPG for cheap" which I'm sure most of us did at one point.

I picked up the Alone in the Dark and Far Cry 2 strategy guides for $2 each, as well. They were getting rid of the line they'd use for getting merch off of their trucks, and carts and stuff, and we were gonna buy one of the hand dollies for hauling our monitors and amps, but they were out of them. Our CC moved locations about 4 months ago, and it's sad that it went down so quickly, but honestly, I rarely shopped their anyways.

I went to my local store (Hicksville NY) at 11:00 when they opened. There was a big crowd outside.
There was nothing but several copies of Warhammer Online, and a few other (bad) PC games. Even the strategy guides were mostly gone, just Warhammer and a couple of Conan and Too Human. Also a bunch of red Wiimote skins and a PS2 multitap. I missed out on the two Oblivion expansions (PC) which were behind the counter and got snatched up quickly.

All in all I got:

-A decent power strip from the store fixtures
-Ninja Gaiden 2 Wall Graphic (pretty cool and real cheap)
-Too Human guide
-I kind of splurged on an Atlantic Espresso Oskar dvd storage unit for $45. Way below MSRP and it's ridiculously huge. No regrets.

There were quite a few good-looking printers and keyboards but I didn't really feel comfortable hanging around long enough to look. They were blasting this apocalyptic, pulsing techno music over the speakers. It was genuinely frightening.

Since I know he won't defend himself, I will, since wesdw369 is my brother.

We have lived in various towns for years, due to moving a lot since my father was in construction (you move where the job is). We have also frequented various circuit cities, and have had issues in EVERY SINGLE ONE. I don't mean "they wouldn't sell us a game at the price we saw on CAG", since most of this was pre-CAG. I mean "They wouldn't sell us the price on the godsdamn STICKER" ("I'm sorry, but that is mis-priced, that movie/game is actually $10-20 more and if you don't want it, you can go buy it some place else"). We have been accused of changing stickers when we just walked in the store and found the item we were looking for (Fayetteville, NC store did this a LOT to me back in the day), as well as trying to rip the company off when we had a return WITH a receipt (both Wilmington, NC and Crabtree have done this on legitiment returns due to damaged materials. Fayetteville NC wouldn't even take a return back, so we were just out the $20 and he said "f*ck it" and walked out and went and bought it someplace else). Every time we have been in a CC together, we have both been treated like shit from the moment go. It makes you start to not like a company when you are constantly treated like shit.

When we did join CAG (I did years before he did), and we did use CAG, we had it good, like other CAGers. We went to CC, got our stuff at cheap deals when we could find it, and we were out. Saying "screw the attitude".

At least in the beginning.

Then came the $5 game sale.

Where we were accused at the counter of STEALING by the store manager because we took a couple of games up to the counter to buy and we knew what they were priced (and they came out of the bin they had labeled with a sign as "clearance games"). Where the store manager threatened to call the cops because we wanted to buy games and they were less then what he said they should be.

That ruined it for him.

We have an uncle who worked at CC for years who luckily retired from there a couple years back, and one of my best friend's boyfriend's last day was yesterday (Charlotte, NC store) and now they are worried about losing their house. And then the thousands of people now out of work. The economy is horrid right now, and it is horrible that it came to this. But in his mind, they had it coming a long time ago (the company, not the people....well, most of them anyways).

Call it "you just had bad luck" or "try going to a REAL CC" or whatever you want to throw out, but after a while it eats at you that a place that singles you out like some have (we walked into the Fayetteville NC store one day to have security walk around with us the ENTIRE time, and we were in shorts and a t-shirt. We never stole from the store, we never caused a scene, we were not thieves or disruptive, nor did we look like thugs/goths/etc) still survives.

Plus, how many people have celebrated the closing of a bad chain or a terrible store before? There are probably hundreds of people who are doing the same thing today, recession and competition be damned. And how he posted it is just how he is.

WOW, in one of the CCs still have merchandise. Employee there just told us to fill up a tote, and ALL for just $5!!!

He is like Begging us to do that. "Everything must go. Please Fill it up. Just $5. We want to go home!"

I filled in A lot of inks, books, magazines, car alarm stuff (Hell, I don't even know what it do, or if I need it), etc etc junks in the tote and paid just $5! :D

Saw the register, I think the total has to be almost $500 alltogether.

NO games, movies, or softwares left when I got there, but I think this is much BETTER haul since it's pretty much 1%.

And, unfortunately, every other store all just Fixture sale only.

The way I look at it, people who buy all these games, movies, CD will likely end up not like it, and they gonna end up selling them on Ebay, Amazon.com for cheap ANYWAY.

So, hey I may not find certain games for under $10, but I think it won't be far too expensive on Amazon.com soon.

Warhammer Online - Used from $6.69 http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000TD3IA2

Age Of Conan - Used from $0.59 http://www.amazon.com/Age-Conan-Hyborian-Adventures-Pc/dp/B000RZPW9W (IF I bought it yesterday. I would paid $8!)

You are so full of crap man. Aren't you the same guy who said "Hey Every One Teh Best Day is Wait till last Dey Everytrhing 90% off!!!!"

Yeah, everything is 90% off but its nothing but wires and cell phone accessories.

And you guys who are saying nothing but fixtures today? More bullcrap. If the store ran out of merchandise then yes, nothing but fixtures. But there are certain stores that have been overstocked since the beginning. Here is the loot I picked up today:

1. Openbox Fallout Collector's Addition PC(mint condition) - $1
2. 4 Mercenaries world in Flames Guide Books $4

Fortunately I got to the Circuit City over in Torrance, CA at about 11am and right there on the front table sitting next to some dude was the Fallout Lunchbox unshrinkwrapped. I open it up and sure enough everything is inside. By the time I got through the line the lady marked pretty much everything down to $1. So I paid $5 out the door.

Moral of story... never wait until the last day to get what you wanted. And also it never hurts to take a second look to see what they might have dug up and put back on the shelves a day later. I also hit the Van Nuys, Santa Monica and Culver City CCs and nothing was left but a handful of lame PC software and wires. I imagine that at this moment all of the CC stores are cleared of anything worth buying because outside each store there is a guy holding a 90% off sign.

But yeah, some of you guys(like SuperJedi) have been steering people wrong. I picked up a bunch of games about a week to 10 days ago for 6 to 10, 12 dollars. Good games when they get that cheap fly off the shelves so you have to buy at a price that seems fair or the next guy will.

Getting the Fallout CE was pure dumb luck because I didn't expect anything to be left. I guess people thought it was just a lame toy.

Alright, enough talk. Got to play some of these cheapass games I've bought over the weeks!

Rest in Peace CC!!!!

Lessons Learned from this CC experience -

1) MOST Movies, CDs, games won't pass 70-80% Off.
2) In the last day, almost all merchandises will be gone. No games, movies, CDs left. Most stores are just fixture sales only.

I think this is similar with the CompUSA liquidation.

Not everything in the store was $1. The dummy books, CD, and Ipod cases were but the other stuff was not. There was a $900 video camera left don't know what they did with that.

A lot of the junk that is mismatched and laying on tables or in bins was a dollar if there was no box or tagor UPC. But most stuff was junk. If you had gotten to the store right at opening you might have lucked out and picked up some stuff that got put back on the shelves. I found one store (Torrance on Ocean Ave) that actually had some stuff. I walked in, people grabbed everything that looked good and got in line and then had some one hold there place while they snatched up some more shit. Fortunately I found a Fallout lunch box on a table and I guess no one thought it was a PC game and I snatched it and got in line. Then I had someone hold my place and went aound to lo look and there was nothing but some Command and Conquer Preorders(which some people were snatching up thinking it was a full game).

Anyways, got to the checkout register and the guy couldn't scan Fallout because it wasn't not shrink wrapped. So I simply said "The lady is marking stuff down to a buck" and I pointed to the PC games section. And he just scanned everything for a buck. Didn't open the lunchbox to see if I stuffed anything in it or anything. Just said $1 each. hehe.

But yeah, nothing in the Torrance store gamewise but some stupid educational looking titles, crap game guides and crap cds. I drove around for 4 hours checking out other CC stores... complete waste of time other than Fallout.

Was going to drive to CC Pasadena but had no luck at all at the three other stores so I went to burger king to celebrate my last and greatest CC score. Fallout CE for one buck!!! :D

IF anyone scored something at the Pasadena store, please write... I'm curious if I might have lucked out one more time had I went!

We all know on the last day, all we could got was crap that nobody would want. Even for the 80%-90% they were still too expensive to buy.

Like Inks, books, cables, SD cards, etc. Or maybe Warhammer online, or Age Of Conan... the other dude said he got each for just 50 cents, said exactly the same thing, just these kind of Junk items.

However, We/I NEVER said you would find Quality items on the last day! Like A lot of games, or Blu-rays...

So, YOU clearly misunderstood.

That lesson was repeatedly stated on these forums at least three weeks ago. Just sayin''.

I saw games like Jericho and Darkness 360 for $6 when they were in the 70% or 80% off. Prince of Persia PC $15. I bought Fable II 360 $12(before it went back up to $30 for some reason). I bought prey PC for $5. Dark Messiah PC $5. Command and Conquer 3 360 $12. Motormstorm PS3 $9. Just Cause 360 $6. Assasin's Creed 360 $15. These prices were from like 2 weeks ago when they were 60 to 70% off. They were never going to get any cheaper than that. Regular DVDs at most stores like Best Buy are more expensive.

The only thing that sucks is I never could get a hold of Far Cry 2 for 360 or PS3 cheaper than $18. I saw it for $18. Waited for one more drop and it was gone everywhere i looked.

But the deal with CC was their prices on the stickers was always wrong. You had to take everything you wanted to the registers to confirm. Because the prices kept going up and down again. And certain stores were selling games at slightly different prices at times.

Anyways, was nice while it lasted.

The CC's where I live was always pretty good. Many helpful employees. I'll miss it.

I agree sad to see them go less competition is never a good thing. When I went last week for the last time. I told each employee I came across, sorry they lost their jobs and I wished them the best in the future.

RIP CC thanks for my TV, cheap games, my car stereo, and many other items.

I filled up the tote with Inks, Books, plus these car stuff + cables, etc.

Just do the math!

Ink= $20x10

Book = $20x10

That's $400 already...

Well I made out nicely during CC's death march. Everything I got was cheaper than Amazon. I did get screwed on my last visit on Wednesday. I bought the Boston Acoustic tower speakers for 60% off. One was in box the other was open demo. Well I'll give you two chance to figure out which one didn't work, you guessed it the open box. I should've known it was bad, it was one of two they used to play Transformer, Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk at full blast. I called my Credit Card company, Chase, and the charge for the defective speaker was removed, they said they've been having problems with CC the last week and stuff being sold as mint being crap. The problem for me was I gave my front speakers to my girl's brother so I needed another H450 speaker. So i had to go to my local Sears and pay full price $350. So to me CC and Sears were having a joint sell, by one get the next 60% off. I now have a nice home theater again. Good bye CC you've done more for me in death, then you did in your entire lifetime.

I went into CC today and they had 90% off only a few things, the rest of it was 70% off, so they didn't even mark everything down to 90% off. There were no special 1$ deals or fill a tote or anything like that. This seems to be par for the course with my area though as KB toys did the same thing, a couple items for 90% off on the last day, but the rest was still only at 70% off.

his celebration is like praising if walmart was going out of business. yeah this is a teeny victory for the small business, but the revenue of the companies that distribute their stuff to walmart, the employees, customers, charities that get affected by walmart, and all the companies that are associated with walmart lose jobs.

same thing applies to circuit city. the employees lose out. the companies and charities associated with circuit city. the customers lose out [NYC for example, now with virgin and cc out of business, all there really is, is best buy. k mart, radioshack, fye are not even on the same level. There is only one toysrus [i believe] in manhattan, and its too overpriced as it is based on tourism.]

monopolistic competition is worse for the people, not better. though we may be getting bargains now, what competition is there besides online

Yes if walmart went out of buisness the whole nation of China would collapse. Every single Chinese person would be out of work. Wouldnt that be terrible. And like 20 americans would lose their jobs and get more on unemployment than they did if they were working and they wouldnt have to be treated like shit anymore by their managers. I managed to get 1 DVD, 3 CDs and a PSP Cord for $6.00 and some change. The PSP cord was not there all this past week (I would have seen it) and it had to have been hidden somewhere and was pulled out today. It was laying far away from anything else for sale on the former video camera shelving. The DVD was one from the group Mana (Mexican group) that I was eyeballing for a while, but too cheap to buy it even at 80%, but I had promised it that I would get it at 90%. The CDs I bought was ones that looked not gansta rap ones, only one I really wanted (a 70s Jazz one), the two I took a chance on, one turned out to be progressive folk and the other a white female hip hopper which was so bad that it was actually enjoyable because of the high cheese factor.

My Best Buy has a couple of decent looking chicks (there is one Magnolia chick that is really cute). Target is the best for girls in my area, a bunch of 18-22 year old cashiers that look like the kind of girls you will bring home to your parents.

Totally true. I worked at Target for part of a summer and the girls that work there are actually really cool. We only had a couple of hot ones, but they were probably the most friendly.
Circuit City in Springfield was a pretty good store; I never had an issue with it. I went there on Saturday and it was pretty much wiped out. There was a TV stand going for $43 that I had my eye on, but then an employee kindly informed me that some lady just bought it. All the staff were really cool the whole time - I think I'll miss CC.

GREAT Deals, True... I Agree! Free $10 GC, Free Guide, Free T-shirt happen ALL the time at CC, as I recall too.

But do you know how many times I went into a CC store and they don't have the product out on the day it's supposed to release. Or couldn't find Any body to JUST ask "Where you have the product?"

Sometimes NO one come to help you for over 30 minutes!!!

I could care less for a customer if I knew my last day of work was today. Do you think an employee at 5pm after dealing with hoarders an greedy people for 1 month or so since the liquidation began is in the mood to answer questions about stuff being in stock at other stores?

I agree, I remember calling Circuit City one day (before their liquidation) just to ask if they had a game in stock. I literally spent 30 minutes and after being transferred and transferred I gave up.

I dont think good customer service would have saved them. I blame their demise on several things:

1. Amazon.com = CC could not compete with Amazon's prices for laptops, movies, music, games, etc.

2. Out of stock items = I went to so many stores to buy a CD or DVD and I could not find it. Their stock was always lousy

3. High prices = Most of the times whenever I found an item I wanted, it was cheaper on amazon or best buy

4. Customer Service = for me, it was about not finding employees to ask a question, more than dealing with assholes

5. Stores physical appearance = a bunch of their stores looked really old or where in the ghetto

I must say that I will miss the $30 off $200 coupons, those were great for big purchases.

1) Neither could Best Buy, Target, or Wal-mart, Sams Club, Costco even a lot of times. Amazon RULES!!!

2) A lot of times it IS there, but in the backstock, but you have to find a employee there to check, first! For some reason, they are not very good at getting products out on the floor, even when it's all in the back!

3) Not really. As I just said, a lot of times CC's deals BEAT everybody else's.

4) This is mostly a problem with # 2) ALL I wanted to ask was "Where is the products" Nothing like how a product works... and even that's a frigging Challenge!

I remember those stores from the year I spent in New Jersey. Just shows that even in the best of economic times, a badly run company can and will go out of business.

3) Deals don't equal normal prices. A lot of the time, I'd go in there and see 2 year old game X for full retail or a TV for +25% retail. Sure, once a year when they have clearance on whatever garbage they couldn't sell, you get a nice low price. That doesn't mean their other prices are any good the rest of the year.

5) Maybe you're fine with a store in the hood, but most semi-affluent white people would prefer to not shop at a place where it looks like they'd get mugged in the parking lot. It's hard to sell stuff when your neighborhood scares away anyone with money.

3) Not really. As I just said, a lot of times CC's deals BEAT everybody else's.

Well, it's all over. I picked up some decent deals, but unfortunately was too busy to hit CC much during the last few weeks when the getting was pretty good.

My top deal? I bought the employee refrigerator from my local CC for $150. The fridge is HUGE and was only used for 1 year. After 15 min. of cleaning once I got it home, it was as good as new. Very happy about that one.

One more thing - the manager at the store I picked up the fridge from told me that the liquidators instructed them to DESTROY certain unsold merchandise. Can you believe that? Why not donate it to charity, or give it away for free to customers? I have a major problem with that, and the manager also seemed to be kinda ticked. He said most of what they destroyed was music CDs. All DVDs and TVs were sold.

Walmart (and pretty much every other company that deals with food that I know of) is the same way. All the food in the deli that was unsold at the end of the day was to be inventoried and thrown away. Employees couldn't take it because it would "encourage stealing"; they thought that people would intentionally over cook food if they could take home the left overs. The extra food could not be donated to a shelter either as there was an infinitesimal chance of food born illness. These people are willing to eat out of garbage cans, I don't think an over cooked chicken will offend their delicate palette.

One thing's for certain, even if CC had it's faults with CS, I never had to deal with said problems since I knew what I wanted and easily found what I wanted. The best things I enjoyed about CC were that they had the best deals on DVDs, especially older ones.

Their game clearance prices were also amazing. I'll never forget buying two clearance games (they were Disney games) to take advantage of one of GameStop's trade-in deals, which basically bumped up the trade-in value of the games. I'll also never forget how it was Circuit City that helped me get my first Nintendo DS.

Years ago, Target.com had a price error on the DS and labeled it $99 instead of $129. I printed out that ad and took it to Circuit City's customer service. They simply looked at the paper and then called another Circuit City and gave me a DS bundled with some cheap, $20 car game. I took the game back the next day and got $20 in my pocket again and had a Nintendo DS for $79. Here's the ad (http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a20/Tsukento/pricedrop.png) I was talking about.

I'll never forget CC. As bad as some people had experiences with, I had some of the best getting so many great things at insanely cheap prices from them. It's saddening to me, as now my only alternative without relying on Amazon happens to be Best Buy, and honestly...they've been sucking pretty hard on sales and selections on things. Doesn't help they'll be cutting back on their anime inventory. :???:

I agree, I remember calling Circuit City one day (before their liquidation) just to ask if they had a game in stock. I literally spent 30 minutes and after being transferred and transferred I gave up.

I dont think good customer service would have saved them. I blame their demise on several things:

1. Amazon.com = CC could not compete with Amazon's prices for laptops, movies, music, games, etc.

They answered the phone? Consider yourself lucky.

CC frequently had DVD sales for $3.99. They often beat Amazon with a stick for DVD prices. You had to root around in those cardboard sale bins, though, and sometimes you came up empty - especially if you came after Sunday or Monday.

#5. Yes, sometimes someone's appearance can detour people from respecting that person at all! I remember this time 'were' I was on cheapassgamer.com and this uneducated CAGer ironically said 'were' in the ghetto instead of 'where' in the ghetto and it totally negated whatever positive things I might have thought about his or her opinion. Because 'where' in the ghetto is the correct word right 'thier'. 'Were' else can you go to have your opinion of a respectful store changed? I wonder 'were' he was raised... probably 'were' he could see a circuitcity out the window of his school in the ghetto..

-satire ended- no disrespect to the ghetto..

hmmm.. I'm surprised this thread isn't closed yet..

Anyways, anyone lucky enough to purchase any of the game kiosks. I remember Compusa selling some when they went out of business.

Is it really over? Circuit City's really closed? It's just hard to believe.

I can't believe how fast mine went there at the end. Up until about 2 weeks ago the store looked pretty much normal. The PSP games sold out first, and there was basically nothing there, and the other sections were picked through a bit-but basically it looked normal (and there were stacks of 360s up until then).

Then 2 weeks ago BANG, everything just disappeared. Next week worse still, then last Friday it was down to a few isles containing everything else in the store. Wonder what happened to the remaining laptops-thankfully they weren't completely gone, given what a rip off they were even at 'clearance' prices. (Ditto for the TVs, but they were all sold out.)

Last time I bought anything was two weeks ago. Got Stargate Atlantis: Season 2 and Hellgate: London-the latter for I think $7 or maybe less.

It was like that at mine; at 40% there was still a very nice selection, but when it hit 50%, everything was gone right away. Kind of baffling to me that dozens of Greatest Hits PS2 games could sit for weeks at $14 or $12 with no one biting, but then at $10 all of a sudden they became irresistible deals and were instantly gone.

Yeah, really. I was going to pick up a copy of Fable 2 and an Xbox for a friend...there had been tons a few days earlier, and then it was like the whole store was just cleared out.

All that was left last Friday were a ton of copies of Conan and Warhammer...but I wouldn't try either of those first if I were going to get into an MMO.

The problem was 40% was the Thursday before Presidents Weekend so there were more shoppers than normal out that weekend. The difference from what was left at 40% and then at 50% was amazing even though it was only a week. There were still top games available at 40%, Rockband 2, Animal Crossing, Mario Baseball etc. but at 50% nothing that great was left.

Ooooh, I didn't realize that. I just don't buy any more or less just because it's a holiday, but I know most people do for some reason.

Can the Geek Squad be far behind? (from what I hear about them, the answer is "no")

Seriously guys, there is ZERO liabiilty that can come from the donation of CDs. Zero. Pathetic decision made by the liquidators. Hell, let the employees take them for free, if you can't do charity!

You know, there has to be some logical reason stores and/or liquidators destroy unsold merchandise at some point. Everyone has seen GameStop destroy old used stock before. Not exactly the same as sealed stuff, but still, I'm sure people wouldn't getting some free stuff, used or not. So, there has to be some reason they do it.

They do? I had no idea they did that. That's also dumb :( Geez, at least give it away to the needy or something.

Wonder if anyone plans on buying the rights to the Circuity City name.

Circuitcity.com actually mentions reopening in a few weeks, so it sounds like there might be some interest in the name. (Although with how the liquidators dragged their name through the mud, I'd think any big "relaunch" of Circuitcity.com would be met with "Huh? Didn't they go out of business by scamming people with lousy prices?")

Although they gotta do something with the approx. 800,000 Nexxtech DVD-Rs left over, I don't think America's landfills can hold em.

I've been using nothing but Nexxtech DVD-Rs for a few years and I haven't had a single issue with them. My CC sold out of them pretty quickly, before I could get my hands on any of them for cheap.

Name brand or nothing for me. Have to be able to complain to someone when they don't work.
