Wait about 2 weeks. I didnt even bother going today because I knew it would be a madhouse and the discounts would be irrelevant for the most part.
The first days of a liquidation are always bad in terms of price, as they know they are in the news and know that people will "attack" the store then and they'll be able to get the most money out of people.
Liquidations like this are luck of the draw more than anything. Its so widely publicized and dumbasses will think 10 to 15% is a great deal, so by the time there really are good deals, everything will be picked over.

I waited in line for an hour to buy xbox live points.
The 800 pts cards still scan up to be $9.95. The cashier tried to overwrite it with 30% off for me, but the system wouldn't let her do it. I think it's because the point cards require activation.
Howeverf, I got another 1600 pts card that's sealed in plastic box, which does not require activation. It rang up $20, but the cashier was able to overwrite it and gave me $5 off.
Btw, this was at Elk Grove, CA. They still had two logitech Harmony remote for xbox 360 left. I think it was $45 before. I don't know how much it is during liquidation.
La Habra, CA is 30% off of cables, 20% off of DVD's and CD's, and 10% off everything else (except TV's, which aren't clearanced yet). Games, accessories, and systems are 10% off for now.
I can't help but feel bad for the kids working there. Many of them are college students hired on for the new store (this one just opened within the last year), and are going to be totally screwed in a few months. Couldn't help but think that if the crowds who came out for the liquidation sale had been there in the past months, this could have been avoided.

Even with 10% off, I found most prices on their electronics were jacked up.. no better than the Black Friday yet.. oh well, for us CAG here, might have to wait for a while.

If the employees actually dealt in customer service and product knowledge, the crowds you saw today might have been there in the past.
I dont feel sorry for 'em one bit.

10 percent off games but hilariously some of the "clearanced" games were raised. And the Mic Stand which was 12 bucks last month (And i never found one) is now 25. Garbage...

Video game wise at my Circuit City, the only thing worth buying was Guitar Hero for any of the systems. I think it was either the Aerosmith or World Tour edition for $40. I'm not into Guitar Hero, so I didn't jump on it.

Anyone here have a CC that carried pre-owned games? We had that, but nothing to write home about.

The bulk of the reason for their going out of business is the corporate structure, not the average employee working there. Those kids are just like you or I and have little to nothing to do with a multi-billion dollar company defaulting on their debts.
Orders come from the top.

PC games were 20% off at my CC. Picked up CODWAW for $40, Rainbow 6 Vegas for $8, and Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 for $12.

True..orders do come from the top, but when you ask an employee about if they have a certain game,cd,dvd (including items in their Sunday insert) and they look at you like a deer in headlights, then its time to start shopping somewhere else.

I stopped in to see what the deal was. Everything that's usually low in price was CRANKED the hell back up. Most of the games I see for $19 bucks there were back up to $49 or $59 dollars. Apparently a sale sign attracts people like moths to flames. So let's see... 10% off something that's usually 40 bucks cheaper than it actually is now? Ugh. Everyone seemed to be buying into it though. I walked out with nada.

me and the gf went in, absolutely everything was stupid priced, yet people were buying up crap like crazy, like dvds and paying 9 dollars more than you would on amazon, i think the printed out 10 percent off signs have some kinda hypnotic powers, i bought nothing, for i was immune to its powers

man it was fucking crazy at circuit city today. not only was there no signs of any deals or percentages off, but the whole store was in chaos. as if it was black friday, or worse. the lines went all the way from CS all the way to the back of the store. it was insane.

Yeah its was a mad house at my CC in Miami, Florida. All I got was Viewtiful Joe Red Hot Rumble-PSP(11.69) and DQM Joker -DS(15.26)= 26.95 total. These were already on clearance so I avoided tax at the end of it all. I wonder if the discounts will get better? I'd like to snag a PS3 game and Wii and I'd be set for sometime.

It's ridiculous that people are already jumping on the "deals." 10% is barely enough to cover tax alone. Anyhow, glad I decided not to drop by CC from reading you guys' comments it'll probably be crazy there.

I think the Brookfield, WI CC is one of the lucky few to not have things jacked way the heck back up. Furniture was 30% off, CD/DVD/Blu Ray was 20% and everything else was 10%. Tons of decent stuff left, all sorts of accessories, games, movies, you name it. I got a PS2 memory card (Sony) for 11.96, and a sandisc 4gb flash drive for 9.99. I even saw a 22" LG HDTV for 299.99 if I remember right (might have been 399, didnt look too hard).

Like I said before-
The key to finding good deals right now on games is to look for mispriced items.
Employees don't care and won't give you a hard time about honoring them.
H
What do you mean mispriced? Is everything priced with new stickers? They're not running anything on the computer system itself anymore, i.e. everything has to be manually entered?

Yes, they are manually overriding games to give the 10% off...or whatever % it is.

Friday I bought Space Invaders Extreme for the DS for $10. I knew they were gonna crank up all those prices Saturday so I'm glad I got it. I could of gotten it at Gamestop for $10 too but I thought Circuit City was the lesser of the two evils.

No sales at my CC. I went in and asked some kid whether he knew what was on sale and he had no idea. I ended up picking up GHII for 360 foir $16.96 plus a full-price points card because I needed one.
I wonder when the actual sales start.

The Circuit City that I went to were selling alot of televisions and sony dvd players. The only thing that I bought was a Nyko Charge Station Charging Dock and Rechargeable Battery Pack Set for Nintendo Wii for $20. Best Buy had them for $32.99 and Gamestop had them for $34.99. $20 did not seem like a bad price for something I wanted.

Had a decent haul today at the CC in Greenfield, WI. They had copies of Mario Kart Wii still, and it was behind the customer service counter along with WiiPlay. I grabbed both, and the lady accidentally marked them as 30% off. Considering I'd never seen Mario Kart on a shelf prior to this, it was a pretty nice deal for me.
Otherwise, most of their products are not worth it until they get more than 20% off. But by the time it gets to that, it'll be all crap anyway.
Holy crap. I went to the one on 76th St.,too, and I didn't see shit. All games were 10% and I didn't see the games you said marked at 30% behind the counter. I saw the games but they weren't marked off. I did pick up 2 wireless quitars for the 360 for a total of $38 with tax. They were both $20 with 10% off.

LA Times article:
Shoppers eager to grab their share of discounted plasmas and Blu-ray DVDs lined up in droves today as Circuit City stores began liquidating their inventory. The bankrupt electronics retailer is shutting down its 567 U.S. stores and laying off 34,000 workers.
By late morning, the line outside the Circuit City in Hollywood was almost 100 people deep. Carlos Reyes, 24, and girlfriend Diana Anzora, 22, of Los Angeles lined up to buy video games and DVDs.
"I prefer Best Buy and if it wasn't for the liquidation I probably wouldn't have come, especially this early on a Saturday," Reyes said. "We didn't know it was going to be such a big line."
Reyes said they would probably stick to smaller items since all sales are final.
"We don't want to get anything too big," he said. "You don't want to not be able to return an HD or plasma."
Andrew Lobel, 26, had different plans. The screenwriter from Los Feliz -- and first-time Circuit City shopper -- stood in line for 40 minutes for a chance to snag a 46-inch LCD TV on sale.
"I'm waiting to trample someone to death," he joked.
The scene outside the store looked very similar to that on Black Friday, he said. A steady stream of customers had been lining up outside since the store opened at 10 a.m., said store director Jesse Alcaraz. A handful of them read books to pass the time. Some called friends to pass on the word about the sales.
Inside, the atmosphere was busy but not hectic, as customers mostly flocked to TVs and browsed bins of marked-down PlayStation and Xbox games. Merchandise was marked for 10%, 20% and 30% off.
What a bunch of fucking idiots. I'm so embarassed these retards live in my city...

Well, what do you expect, an audio video expert? All the while paying them minimum wages. Quality employees command a premium, and Circuit City as we all recall was not willing to pay for them. Though, in all honesty can you blame them? It's just a part of what we as consumers demand - low prices no matter what. You can't have your cake (low prices a la WalMart) and eat it too (via expert and exceptional customer service). It's the sad reality of retail and consumerism in our world, for better or worse.

Culver City, no shit? That's the store that's a couple blocks from my office. God damn, I bet it was destroyed. I was going to go scout it out on Monday, though I know it's not worth it. Need to see exactly how they are pricing everything (new stickers with prices, % off stickers, or what) so I can see about finding anything mis-priced and maybe if I can get a friendly employee to magically adjust it the price to whatever I want it to be, like that one guy did.

The tvs were not marked down period, they just had the same sale price as last weekend, cables were down 20%(still expsensive compared to amazon and others), movies down 20% but marked up to msrp, games not marked down period, laptops werent down either(though on some cases cashier would override and put 10%). People were buying hand over fist thinking they were getting deals because a ticket said sale, but in reality they werent.
They had 100 dollar clearence HDDVD players, they dont even make barely any hddvd movies anymore. A player can be had for 20 bucks. The thing runs till march so i would wait till about mid feb before i bought anything, that is when the real sales begin.

Yeah, Merrillville was batshit crazy today. Went in just to browse and watch the chaos. Store was doing the 10% off, 20% off CDs and DVDs and 30% off mobile and cables.
I'm looking to snag a cheap MP3 player just to listen to some podcasts while at work. I'll also be on the lookout for whatever's left video game wise. I know I saw a bunch of people with GH and RB bundles in their hands.

I was there just there last Saturday roaming around looking for a discounted FFIII (which I sadly did not find) and I had over heard a clerk convincing someone on an extended warranty on some computer part or something. I bet he feels quite the fool right now. I personally bought a computer at BB in 2007 as I knew something like this would happen to CC, not to mention the horrid run around they gave my mum on her lemon of a Compaq computer, where they actually told her to go to BB to get it fixed as they don't service that brand. Amazing!
Anyway I've learned my lesson from Media Play, Hess, Bradlees, Wards, Hollywood Video, etc. etc. over some 20 years of going to these things that there are never bargains to be had. Everything that was on sale is at full price. Everything decent will sell out in the first two weeks at the lowest percents. Then, at around 30% or so (which usually takes a month to reach), the stores will be gone of anything really worth obtaining and what's left is crap that is really not worth buying until it reaches 70-80%, if you're lucky enough for it to stay around that long. Yet amazingly at 30%, new inventory will mysteriously appear, but all of it will be crappy stock that the store never had at such high prices. Like 100s of off brand 64MB memory carts at $19.99 a pop. And all the while, they'll have some mad insane prices marked on the stands, shelves and stuff with a 10 to 20% buyers premium. Yet somehow I sorta hope that perhaps this time I can get that video game display stand I've always wanted. This time around, there is a PS3 one that will catch my eye, but probably not my wallet if it'll be in the $300 to $500 range without a TV or system again. I'm kicking myself as this same store binned their Xbox display in the dumpster and I was too shy to ask for it.
No, these wholesalers has this down to an art to maximize their sales and you are not really going to make out. I personally just go every week as I get perverse pleasure at watching a good friend slowing fade into nothingness. I may take photos this time.
Looking back, I love CC July 4th $5.00 game sales the best and it's what got me into being a CAG....Well actually the July sales was the only time I actually bought something at CC other than the laptop in 1998 only because we had no BB at the time. LOL I may go in CC a lot, but I rarely left with anything. I hated the red-ness of it all, as it's like going into Satan's Pit. The $9.99 sale (the first time they stopped the $5.00 and the last July 4th sale) I actually said to the store employees that I was a Cheap Ass Gamer, half expecting them to know what that meant. They probably thought I was a raving mad looser.
Anyway, the best memory I have is seeing rows of the DIVX and knowing it was dead upon arrival as it was the most stupidest thing I've ever seen. And obviously it was, as they took $114 million loss on the venture. So RIP CC. Cannot say I'll really miss you as I'm still a bit pissed at you for not having a July 4th sale last year, or a proper $5.00 sale in 2007. LOL

The one here in new jersey was swamped with idiots. People lining up at registers to to get 10%!?! Makes no sense. Friend wanted a tv and thought would get good deal. Still cheaper at best buy the same model. Unfortunately all the suckers are gonna buy the overprice good stuff thinking they got a deal that when sales start at 30 to 40%, anything of value will be gone. Why do peoples eyes light up for liquidation sale, doesn't anyone ever compare prices anymore?

Went to the liquidation today. People are going crazy and buying everything at like 10% off. When are people going to learn? Wait a little bit. That 10% off is nothing.
They did a really bad job at my store. There are lots of clearance signs everywhere, even on things that are the same price. The Xbox 360 wifi adapter was "marked down" to 99$.

Too bad CC closing since I got better video game deals over there than at Best buy. I always left BB empty handed but not at CC with the game bin deals. I even bought a 46 sony lcd tv after black friday that was way cheaper in price than what it goes at best buy. Some employees would know their stuff and others wouldn't care or even help.

CC in sterling, va was manually entering the 10/20 percent off by calculator.
Started off with 1200 dollars with of shit which consisted of 360 games, ds games, some psp games, pc games, 2 360s (arcade and pro), 1 ps3 80gb and some other crap. Hauled it around the store in a cart for about 4 hours calling friends and family saying "you want this?" After all that I ended up buying just the 360 headset, Vantage point BR, Blue Harvest SD-DVD, and of course the last black zune 120 gb.
Not too shabby considering I got there at 3:30pm today. Oh well I will swing by when pc games are at 50%.

Sad to see this happen but I can see why. The past 5 or so times I have went into Circuit City I have been unable to get any help. I am 22/M so maybe they just think I don't have any money or something but it is ridiculous. I went in to get a LCD monitor and literally had to stand around for 15 minutes before someone would help me. I still don't like to see CC go out of business though,it's one more place to get good video game deals from!
I'm staying away from my local Circuit City. It was always horribly disorganized before this and I'm sure it's worse. I drove by there this morning and there was a line to get in before they opened. I was on a date tonight and went past there again and the parking lot was still packed. Stupid consumers just irritate me greatly.

Visited a store here in Texas and ultimately didn't buy anything because of the ridiculously long line to check out.
I don't know about other areas, but there was no jacking of prices up to MSRP here. Most items were 10% off the ticketed price. Some were 20% or 30% off. The only things not clearanced at all were consoles (PS3, 360, PSP, etc).
Did any of the CAG'ers scoffing at "those idiots paying MSRP" actually check the prices? ;)

So would it be a good time now to check deals on HDTVs?
I'd wait a bit. Here's the thing about tv sales at liquidations I learned from last year's CompUSA closing sale.
Typically, you'll always see a few ratty HD tv's that no one wants, because the picture is jacked and there seems to be a major flaw with the display.
But the savvy shopper waits till the last few weeks to get the tv, then returns the tv to the manufacturer as defective -- which is within the rules.
The manufacturer then sends the tv back and the person now has a new HD TV for tons less than the original price.
There are all kinds of tricks on how to work these liquidations, but they're all on the level.

Ah, so what your saying is no one wants a jacked up HD. So I should wait till its really on sale then buy and return it to it's manufacturer?
Good idea. Only flaw i dont like about it is the hassle of shipping it. But good thing im planning to pick up a 26-32 inch tv.

went to CC today in Bridgewater,NJ and it was swamped. It was like XMAS all over again. My Friend came out with the VAIO laptop he has been eyeing at and got it for 800 bucks. Not bad i guess. Has a blu ray player in it....but there was nothing that really caught my eye. the 20 dollar shovel ware Wii bin was empty and were selling at 20 bucks a piece. Same price they had on those games on clearance for hte last 3 months. Things were flying off the shelves today. I dont think there will be much left by the time it hits february.

Does anybody know what would happen with PSN cards? I'd like to get some cheap, but are prepaid cards like these even clearanced? I don't know how it works out since they are worthless until they're activated.

I call SHENANIGANS!!!
It's just like the video a poster put up above... the liquidation is bull.
Games get marked down 10-20% ONLY! :bomb: That's not even worth your time, CAG! You could find cheaper prices from a competing sale.
I HATE the liquidation company running the closings.... you go into the store, and you can feel the dishonesty (like changing old prices in the Linen's n Things closing!).
"Going out of Business" used to mean an awesome, once in a lifetime deal! But these liquidators are hosing us. The prices aren't very good at all, and people are buying like crazy cause they think they are.
Hence, it's not worth your time: you are unlikely to find an amazing deal, AND you'll have to elbow through crowds and stand in line to checkout. :bomb:
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

I take it you've never been to a liquidation sale before?
This is exactly how they all go. They start at a low percentage, sell what they can, then crank up the discount bit by bit. They are trying to maximize profits to pay off their debt after all.
In fact, with people stampeding in to buy things at 10-30% off, it would be plain stupid of the liquidators to start off at 50+% just because you think that is "more fair". Heh.

Circuit City in Temecula, CA had video game accessories (including points cards/LIVE Gold) for 30% off. No PSN cards but plenty (this morning) of LIVE Gold , 4000 MS points cards and a few Wii Points. Bought both a Wii and 12+1 Month Gold card and was able to activate both when I used them at home. Hope that helps.

There have been reports of some gold cards expiring, but apparently if you email MS and tell them you were sold an expired code (And send the code to the I presum), they'll send you a new one.
I've never expereinced this, and I too have entered a few expired codes from old 3 month kits and such

Fun little video on liquidations.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMiBVlXctM8
I just want to mention something for people outside of MS...
Watching this video reminded me of Hudsons in MS. It's ran by Billy Hudson, who I think is a senator. I remember first coming to USM and seeing like 3 of these stores. I thought it was like a dollar general and didn't even want to go inside
People down here....THEY LOVE HUDSONS!!!!!!!! The richest of rich will talk about how they're waiting on the next shipment.
What is Hudsons???
What Billy Hudson does is wait until a store goes out of business. Then, he rushes in and buys...EVERYTHING! I mean, EVERYTHING! And then he sales it just slightly above what he bought it for. So, if he bought a TV at 200 with a retail of 500...he'd sell it at like 225 or 250. You're still saving huge money no matter how you look at it!
So basically everyone is kinda hoping he can figure out a way to get some control over CC's liquidation so everyone can have a holliday. It won't happen due to this piece already stating who the liquidator is, but, it's still great that this man runs a store like it.
There IS a local electronics store that I think is going out of business though....so, I'm going to be waiting just like the poorest of the poor and the richest of the rich for the shipment to come in...

Yeah, there wasnt much worth buying at current discounts. Some of those movies, games, and live points cards will be great if they last until stuff gets cheaper as they had so many. Also, The funny thing about guitar hero 3 is thats been on sale all over for that price or more for a month or two now, so I dont get the rush on it either.

Your average American consumer has the IQ of an apple, hence the long lines at CC for only 10% off. CAG members are a cut above, which is why we won't bite yet, generally. Wake me up at half off everything.
amen, i drove by the one in grand rapids and people had their SUV's parked on snowbanks. It was 10 degrees this morning and these dumb MFers are standing in line. I went to Sears instead and picked up 2 copies of Ninja Gaiden 2 for $16.xx after price match......where are the deals again?

I went to the 1st day of the liquidation in Levittown, Pa and to my surprise at 10am very packed and very little to offer.
When you 1st walked in there was a marker board that said 30% off TV furniture and cables 20% off dvds and CD's 10% off everything else.
The video game section was still ripe with regular prices and hardly any gems on good games. They don't price match anymore and I couldn't PM the condemed 2 I wanted this whole week, since the had it for 39.99!!!
instead they had a 11.99 Clive barkers jericho, 11.99 Conan that seemed decent... very poor. I should of guess that when walking in the people leaving were leaving empty handed. Duh.

Like most of the liquidations, it will probably be pretty much worthless. But it really is an amazing look at psychology. Mail people a 10% coupon and probably 95% of them ignore it. Say it is a going out of business and things are 10% off and they line up before dawn. No wonder some of these carpet places always seem to be in a state of going out of business.
I read one article where a store manager said they had 4 times the people of a normal Saturday (400%) and sales were up 25%....so that tells you that a lot of people came in, looked and decided that the sale was a bust and walked out empty handed...

The prices were terrible at my local Circuit City yesterday. On the games, they raised the prices of all of them back up to MSRP and then took 10% off. For instance, Soul Calibur IV for 360 was $29.99 on Friday. Yesterday, the price went back up to $59.99 and they offered 10% off of that price.
Where's the deal here? Somebody tell me please!
I made the snap decision to across the street to Best Buy and get seasons 6 & 7 of Smallville and season 1 of Birds of Prey with that $60.

I'm staying away from my local Circuit City. It was always horribly disorganized before this and I'm sure it's worse. I drove by there this morning and there was a line to get in before they opened. I was on a date tonight and went past there again and the parking lot was still packed. Stupid consumers just irritate me greatly.
Wow sounds like the clearwatef, fl store. Out of curiosity I went in because the lot was packed. Walked out about 5 min later as they didnt have shit. People sure were swarming the store though. Do liguidators sell off all the backroom stock and just liquidate what's on the shelves? When I went in today, there were a lot of empty shelves and open box items around but it seemed way too empty for day one of a liquidation sales at 10% off.

Sound like clearwater again. A couple months back I was there trying to buy a wireless phone for the folks. Wandered around the front registers for about 15 min looking for a cashier. One of the guys wandering aimlessly on the floor pointed me to the customer service desk. So I go over there and wait for about 5-10 minutes in line. I get to the counter to check out the girl behind the register tells me to "get one of the guys on the floor" to check me out. I said fuck it and walked off. good riddance. that store has always been a shit hole. Everytime I walked in it was so disorganized I felt like I was walking into big lots or dollar general instead of an electronics store.

There are too many of us that have had these experiences for them to be "isolated" as some on here have said. My local CC was awful as far as organization and having competent employees went. It's sad to see them go because they always had better prices than BB, but it's definitely no surprise. The real surprise is they made it this long.

CC as a retail company, with its weekly ad fliers, doesn't exist.
Their inventory is being bought by multiple liquidation companies, and that inventory is being sold through the CC stores.
The weekly ad flier doesn't exist any longer from CC. Which is why all of their ad information in Speedy's weekly threads has strikethroughs in it.

There not bashing them for going to CC, they're bashing them for buying things there. Big difference. I can see why they are bashing people for buying stuff as there was a flock of people around "clearance" bins with handfuls of games. I looked in the bin and lo and behold, its all the clearance games (marked 16.96, etc.) that have been there for the last year. People were literally clawing at each other to get games out of the bin. Ridiculous.

My local CC was jammed yesterday but everyone was well behaved to my surprise. Could be because all the maniacs were already inside the 24 hour wal mart supercenter 50 yards away. No good deals to be had of course, just 20% off DVD's and blu ray, which was not too bad.
Check out unfortunately slow because the cashiers were forced to use calculators to tabulate the discounted price of each item purchase. Just got some DVD's and a cheap DVD shelf, not bad, but not good.

Most dedicated CAGs know when they walk into a store not only what the price of an item is there, but what the price is at competing stores, which stores price match + 10%, whether there are coupons to bring the price even lower, etc. Plus, we're aware when a price has been jacked up prior to a clearance, so we know just how good or bad a clearance price is.
People who don't visit sites like CAG just hear the word "clearance", run to the store and then congratulate themselves for saving $6 on a game that they don't realize they could have gotten for $15 less two weeks before.

I haven't been to my local CC yet and I doubt I'll go anywhere near it until the percentage off reaches 80%. When you've seen firsthand what kind of lovely discounts are given and how long it takes for the percentages to go up to a reasonable amount, then you learn to steer clear of these 'sales/deals' and just go after your normal clearance deals.
Normal idiot consumers on the other hand are a different story. They think any percent off of MSRP is a super deal.
With the normal consumers being uninformed of all of the deals out there, it makes it better for us all around.

Did anyone see any good deals on HDTVs at their local CC?
Be really careful with buying a TV at CC now, I would not buy a display TV especially a plasma, due to the fact they are on 18 hours a day and running on full settings. CC does not "break in" their TV's. As for new ones, Go with online or Best Buy so you can price match and return if it has a crap load of dead pixels.

Just got back from my CC in Austin, TX. Not too much traffic, and LOTS of stuff was still available. The sale was:
30% off Furniture
20% off DVDs & CDs
10% off everything else.
I was really excited about the 20% off DVDs / CDs, but as expected, they were jacked up to MSRP. I mean, $25 for 1-disc The Dark Knight DVD, and $50 for 30 Rock Season 1? C'mon! Even with 20%, you're better off going to Best Buy.
All I really want outta this sale is a Canon Powershot 770 IS or 790 IS. And for some reason, both of these cameras had their price tags removed both from the camera and the shelf display. I had to find an associate to price them out and both were $229.99. Best Buy has a better price.
Interistingly, lots of people were checking out Wii Fit, but no one bit (there were a good 20 or so left). I think Austinites are wise and will wait till next month. You should do the same. 10% is just taxes.

I checked the local CC (Grandville, MI) when I was out earlier today just to laugh at all the people who were buying the place up thinking they were getting good deals at that amazing 10% off. They did have one decent deal at the front of the store, which was the Guitar Hero III bundle for the 360 for $38.99 before the 10% off, but of course they were all out of stock on that already. Sigh. They had Guitar Hero: Aerosmith for the same price, but, you know... Aerosmith. Eww.

I dont know but at my local CC people were not so seemingly thrilled.
There was still pretty much everything left.
Sure you had some people buying some things, mainly a couple of DVDs here and there, but the line was deceiving since there was only one register open to begin with.
I went at like 8:30pm so its not like I went in early.
The store was stocked just like any other day.
Funny thing is to [deceive] people, they had a dude with a sign out front saying 30% off.
Of course, they only mentioned it was REALLY 20% on DVDs and 10% on everything else once you already stopped in, got out of your car, gathered your stuff, and went to the register.

The cc here in irvine 30 on cable and 10 the rest. I can't believe that a lot of people are buying the tv at 10% off msrp. Most of the display are gone too.
It's definitely cheaper to buy at amazon with no tax here in ca so I'm not sure why 10% off is a big deal.

Drove by mine today and the parking lot was full again just like yesterday. I didn't stop but the sign jockeys up and down mall road showed saving up to 30%. My friend went yesterday and said all they had were open box and display hdtvs all marked at 10%. He said they seemed high... He returned home to find my email with the news reports that were linked in this thread about closeout tricks. He said he's really glad he didn't buy anything now because all the prices were cut and items repriced in the store.
I really feel bad for the sign jockeys out there because it's freakin nasty cold out there. But hey at least they are probably making minimum wage.... :(

Went back to the CC in San Antonio because I'm a glutton for punishment. There were sign jockeys down the street on all sides. I wondered how they got those jobs because I would have applied. Anyway, disappointment as usual. I saw a few 10% and 20% off signs on items other than video games and movies. No idea if there was any percentage off those items because as usual, the place was disorganized and lacking any sort of information. I was going to bring some stuff up and see if it rang up at a sale price, but line was too long and honestly, didn't care. I'll keep checking back on this thread and if someone posts a really good deal worth driving down there for I might check it out, otherwise I won't be seeing my CC ever again. Just not worth it. I wish I could post a sign outside the store saying "not worth it." But the busy stores mean the employees get more hours, which is probably helpful considering how many will be losing their jobs.

i am interested in buying a linksys wrt610n router. I went to CC on saturday morning and that time it was 30% off from $169.99 so around $121 lol i went for checkout and found that liquidators arrived and now have the control over the store and my bad luck that the discount became to 10% only lol. I left that router that instant and told them to tell the liquidator to stuff it up his ass for thugging people lol the sales person was laughing so hard hahaa.
Could anyone find the linksys wrt610n router for around $130-140? I am getting it for $145 from dell and b&h.

I am really going to miss Circuit City. I guess I'm lucky that I never had an customer service issues and generally got what i wanted when i was looking for it. I'm going to miss the great clearance deals but mostly I'll miss the diversity they offered to the local game and electronic scene and a great place to just browse. With fewer players in the market, game deals may become scarcer. I consider this a sad day for all of us. The CEO and Upper Management should lose all compensation for the past year for their gross mismanagement. I still hope against hope that Circuit City will exist as an online store even if it is a shadow of it's former self. I'm so depressed, I'm rambling now. . . . .sigh. .

I have the last 2 advertisements from Circuit City, the one from last Sunday (1/11/09), as well as the one from today (1/18/09).
With Circuit City now liquidating all assets after failing to emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy, these are the final two ads for the store that will ever be published. Todays includes an added bonus, a couple of my greasy fingerprints on the front and back covers, from some nice greasy bacon I had this morning.
These two final ads had an even smaller print size and print run than normal, and are extremely rare. There were only about 50 million or so printed, as opposed to the usual 100 million print run. $1,000 each.

Also, if you have a coupon for like 10% off or $40 off $200 purchase, those apparently aren't recognized by the system and won't stack.

Nothing will be left that's any good for the tier. And noone's really going to save any money on most anything. This was a lose only scenario from the start, but hey, we needed to up consumer spending to juice up the economy so guess it helps that the average consumer's ignorant. Seriously, the Circuit City in Denton, TX had hardly any TVs or laptops left. I swear I saw an idiot buying a Sony 46 LCD (120hz) for $1800+ tax when on amazon is listed for $1694.
There were plenty of fools buying movies and other stuff that is cheaper on amazon.com. These seemed to be the kind of people that never shop online so for them everything at 10% is a bargain. I noticed that nobody was touching the CDs at 20% off but all the big items were gone (TV's and Laptops). Manhattan Beach, CA BBuy thankfully has Fry's as a competitor, even though that is probably one of the better Best Buy's I've been in. Very open and plenty of parking.
Any South Bay CAG's wanna weigh in?? Sorry to vent but it does suck to be losing a big box chain that at least was somewhat competitive.

It's just they don't do their research. They hear 2 things, bankruptcy and clearance. Thus, they think they are getting a extrememly great deal, in which they'll brag to their friends about. Then their friends go down and buy a few things. But the Reality is, they got jipped by the liquidators.
Another thing to take into account, those working at CC and 'friends' of the liquidators. I am sure there is a bunch of stuff in the back, being held till they get a nice 50-65% off.

I recently bought the Linksys WRT54GL because of many recommendations from other people. Scored it for $60 on Amazon, the cheapest place I could find, about $20 cheaper. You can install custom firmwares on it, boosting it to about a $600 piece of hardware. I don't need all the stuff the firmwares offer, but I figured for a few bucks more, I couldn't pass up the router.

Different liquidators are handling it in different parts of the country so what might be happening in NJ may not be the same as whats happening in NV, although its likely that stores in same town/area will have similar markdown schedules.

I live by the CC that was recently built in Signal Hill. Same as everywhere else..... No deals whatsoever. Plenty of people buying overpriced merchandise because it's on "sale". However, the Best Buy here in Signal Hill is top notch. As far as Compton goes.... they were doomed after the K-Mart fiasco. No one has leased that building since K-Mart left years ago.
It's considered a "high risk" area. Theft potential is through the roof. Also, they were only going to get local residents to work there. The Compton Best Buy is set up where everything has to be bought in it's designated area. That means too many transactions and line waits if purchasing different items. They are so terrified that someone is going to steal something that they constantly wander around continuously asking you if you need help.
I sometimes wonder why they bothered building it there if they had this many concerns. They hoped building it by the 91 Freeway would draw more people in since they wouldn't have to venture too far into town. The place is a haven for window shoppers and a place for parents to drop their kids off while they shop at other stores in the plaza. See what happens on the weekend if you ever want to use one of the game demo setups. Kids are on the thing like it's there personal console. I guess parents feel like why buy their kids one when they can drop them off at BB and they can play for free.

I think it is safe to say no new items. Circuit City no longer owns the product in the stores, the liquidator does.

Kinda sad that so many people are concerned with getting extremely cheap games, yet they don't care about all the people losing jobs. Circuit City didn't have the best customer service, but they did have excellent deals. I've only got one decent deal at Best Buy, and it wasn't for video games. I'm definitely not going to shop at the Best buy in my area and will go to Amazon and Newegg.

I've gotten much more deals at Best Buy than at Circuit City over the past couple years so I guess YMMV depending on the type of stuff you're looking for. Sucks about the people losing their jobs at CC though. Hopefully they can find some decent paying jobs elsewhere.

Ughh!! First the Compton store and now Hawhtorne, CA. One less competitor to Best Buy, though across from Hawhtorne,CA BBuy is a Toys r us and office depot.
I hate the god damn Compton, CA BBuy! Ordered vacuum for store pick up and they didn't have it ready when the e-mail I received said it was ready. Only Target and probably the new GameStop remain around Compton for PM's. Compton CC was axed in the first round of cuts.
The Compton CC was always a good place for me to find clearance games. I really don't think it was frequented by any CAGs. I was able to find about 3 copies of Hotel Dusk ($16.96) way before it was reprinted. Since it was a smaller CC, it seemed that there was always someone to help you out as opposed to the Hawthorne CC.
The Hawthorne CC has always sucked in regards to actually having games in-stock. There was always a wait if you wanted a game that was locked up. Years ago, I had to wait about 45 minutes (no BS) to get a black DS. I had a GC so I had to wait instead of crossing the street and going to BB. So I'm really not going to miss that one.
The El Segundo (Manhattan Beach) BB is really the best one in the area. The Hawthorne BB will also PM Fry's and they also have a VG clearance section. That store always seems packed and it can be hard to get someone to help you out except for that tall white guy that seems to know everything about everything.
Phillip
The Signal Hill CC was also good for clearance games but everytime I went into that CC it was always empty. Even the Compton CC had more foot traffic.
I've never ran into the whole "designated area" thing at the Compton BB. I've picked up stuff from other departments and have been able to pay for them at the front cashiers but that BB should really be considered "bare bones". They should call it "Best Buy Express". That BB is the only one where I have been able to PM Gamestop, though.
K-Mart, HWV/Gamecrazy and now CC (well a few weeks ago). That's alot of empty buildings across the street from each other. I think there was also a shoe store that was opened next to the new BB that has already closed. :-s

I went out to my local CC last night and found nothing of interest. Leaving I found a kingston wireless mouse marked $11. I snatched that up and went to check out. The lady scans it and tells me $44 please. I told her it was marked at $11 and she just looked at me.
Nice fuckin sale when shit costs MORE than it was marked? I can get better deals on amazon and target.

Uh oh. You're about to start a morality argument. Unless hiding is only an issue when it comes to Target clearance. I have no problem with hiding things, but I don't think there's anywhere that things can stay hidden right now. I have a feeling they're going to do everything in their power to drag up hidden items. When you've got 200 people in a store at any given time, stuff won't stay hidden for long.

To all of the people that are losing their jobs, its unfortunate, but, they should have seen the ship sinking. Circuit City had claimed bankruptcy months ago, and the company itself has been dropping in sales over the past few years. Anyone with a brain can see that there is a big difference in prices, deals, and customer service when you walk into a store like Best Buy in comparison to Circuit city. Any time I stepped foot in a CC, it was like a ghost town, and the employees were far to busy conversing with one another rather than actually working. Sorry to you 30,000+, but you were obviously blind if you didnt see this coming.

their computers or something went down this morning so they had to calculate and put in the prices manually. i had forza 2 for 360 which was marked as 12.96. the guy put it in for 2.96. i'm not entirely sure why, but i corrected him after i saw the receipt. thankfully he was nice and said, "ah, don't worry about it." so i got the game for next to nothing. wish i had more stuff for him to screw up haha.

I know thats a good router and u might be using DD-WRT with it to make it work much better but i am looking for N and wrt610n being the dual band with upto 270 mbps transfer rate with internal antennas is pretty damn good. It seems i will have to go with B&H with $145 on it. Thanks for replying buddy.

lol good point. Many managers and employees work on this when something like this happens if u know what i mean. And like people said earlier abt being very lucky to get something at a good price, well, i got lucky and got 4 seasons of TV show for only $23.98. Depends on what you purchased. If it was something that was full MSRP on Friday, it is cheaper now, but if it was lower than MSRP it's either more expensive or at the same price.

I had to go on a Wii Speak excusion last night for my wife. Went to Target and they didn't have it. I decided to swing by CC to see if they would have any left (didn't really care about a discount), when I pulled up I thought they were closed cause there was no one inside. Walked in and the place was dead. Had 10% off signs everywhere of course but really no crazy people lining up round the corner like I had read elsewhere. Walked over and they had 3 wii speaks left. Checked out the rest of the selction, nothing worth noting but I did hide a couple things i hopes of snagging later at larger discounts.
The Wii Speak was still over priced @ $27 but the wife was happy at least.

Okay, that's just not fair. In the first place, your Circuit City isn't like every Circuit City. Mine was as busy and active as my Best Buy. Besides that, yeah, if I worked there I'd have been scared, given the bankruptcy, but they still didn't know for sure, and I'm sure the store tried to reassure employees, etc. And even still, it's only been two months. I mostly hate this for their sakes.

Neither had employees that knew anything about what they were selling or that tried to help the customers. I liked Circuit City because it actually had convenient locations. Best Buy near me isn't very convenient and near my school we only had Circuit City.

That "new" Best Buy in Manhattan Beach in the "new" complex is really nice, but that's because it's "new" (a couple of years old). Relatively few people outside of the South Bay know of its existence, so that's why it's a good alternative when the other Best Buys on the west SIIIIEEEDE sell out of good deals. As far as Circuit City goes, Culver City location was destroyed over the weekend from what I've heard. I don't even want to bother scouting it out this morning despite it being 2 blocks from my office.
That Hawthorne/Lawndale one, that's just so typical of the Circuit City corporate stupidity. What were they thinking, opening that store up across from an established Best Buy? Every time I would go down there, the Best Buy parking lot would be relatively packed, meanwhile right across the damn street the Circuit City would have a 10% filled parking lot, at best. When they built that store a few years ago, across the street from a huge and always packed Best Buy, I knew it wouldn't end well.
As far as price matches, yeah you've got the smallest of all the Fry's locations who will pricematch, but they WILL ALWAYS call the store they are pricematching against. Or Best Buy, which won't. Oh and you've got a WalMart not too far away at the super ghetto MLK/Crenshaw mall, in fact I think there's another one closer to you than that one.

Those places that are doing the 30% MSRP are doing exactly what that youtube video said... I went to CC down here by va beach and they had some of the games from the kmart threads and some older games like GRAW 2 Gears of War, Ninja Gaiden 2, Stranglehold, Darkness, and etc are back up to 49.99-69.99. This is ridiculous. I say give them about 3 weeks becaus it's a 60 day process so after a couple of weeks then they will be putting prices to the way we can all negotiate.

Please tell me you were joking. CC is now being run by the liquidators so the prices are 10% off the SRP. Since they have no affiliation to CC corporate anymore people are not getting the same deal as before, look at the policy people. If anything shop there for the stuff thats normally never discounted like apple products or videogame systems.
