Played through on Heroic and I have a question that may be a potential spoiler.

We're playing through the eyes of like 3 or 4 different characters right? And the beginning character's cut scenes are the other guys that fought right before him right?

The beta comes out in 2010. If its exclusive at all, im sure there is something on the disc to show its part of the first run of ODST.

How does one set up a fire fight match? Is it matchmaking or is there a lobby that you have to sit in and wait to fill up?

Beat the game on Legendary with 3 people total. What a disappointing campaign. It was only 4 and a half hours long. What is that? The story was great and all, but for $60, I expected more time out of it. The last half of the game was by far the best part of the game. Firefight is awesome for those of you that haven't played it, yet. The three of us that played the campaign played on a map until Set 3 (45 rounds). It was challenging and fun. We stopped at the beginning of set 4 because we got bored.

At some point next year, that "Intel" option at the bottom that has one of the vidoc's right now will switch to Halo Reach beta or something and you will download and play it through there, just like how you had to have the Crackdown disc and go into its options to play the Halo 3 beta back in May 07.

Just beat it on Legendary with 2 other people in one sitting, got me 685 cheesemints through the run.

Overall, I didn't really feel amazed or enthralled by the game at all. I couldn't form a connection with any of the characters and the main hub area didn't catch my interest.

On another note, the pistol fucking wrecks.

Hmmm, that's wierd, I played through 3 missions on solo, jumped into a friend's co-op campaign. I came back and I couldn't quite resume the campaign where I left off. now it's listed that I still need to finish the first 2 flashbacks.... annoying.

Is there any way to jump back into night mode and find another beacon?

Yeah, I just got my Sergent Johnson code, an e-mail stating I'll be getting my $9 refund within 2 days, and my $10 promotional credit.

What's crazy is I ALSO got the $5 credit for the HALOODST code, despite entering it and it not working. I emailed them earlier this month and it was manually applied to my account. Basically, I got a $20 promotional credit for the game.

Why are you guys playing through the campaign with other people?
You know its not long as it is and you think playing through with others will make it better? The whole point of the campaign was to play by yourself to make the feeling of loneliness stick. And if you played co-op you killed that. I'm playing on Legendary by my self and I love it. Playing with 3 total people would be boring because there would be zero challenge.

This.

I'm kind of surprised people are playing through the campaign on co-op, then complaining that its either too short, or that its dull and you breezed through it.

Playing the game solo first time time is absolute the way you should play it IMO then on co-op on subsequent plays.

The atmosphere in the hub is great and really different from any other Halo game. You actually feel vulnerable, and you want to avoid fights. You don't get that same feeling on co-op.

Anyways,

Sorry if its been covered, but if you want the achievement for beating the game on Legendary, do you have to go through the Hub? Or can you just go to mission select and choose Legendary as the difficulty?

You probably already know, but it deletes your save if you jump into a replay of a mission, you'll no longer have any progress whatsoever.

Don't know if that's what you guys did or not.

Nope.

I went and triggered a mission, waited until I hit a check point (like 1 minute into the mission because I knew I was going to quit playing after the first check point) and turned off the console.

Went back, went towards a beacon...started it. I went, "hmm. I already played this. Maybe the game just didn't save THIS one." Went to another beacon..."WTF I played this one too." Beat that, went to the third beacon, "Goddamnit, game didn't save anything."

A ton of people on GAF have been reporting the problem too.

I can't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure there wasn't a "continue campaign" option for me when I hit Solo Campaign.

Not sure if it was asked in here at all, but for those who finished the game on Legendary and watch the stuff after the credits, I have a few questions, as I just beat the game last night with a friend...

-One of the Scarabs that crosses the highway on the final level, the one that "doesn't see you." Is it the one from Halo 2 or just happens to be there?

-After the credits roll, and the part with Johnson goes through, and the video cuts back to the data center... What is it that's so important down below it? And why is the prophet there?

I understand that the Arc from Halo 3 is near the city, but what's so important down there, as they already showed the dig site for the Arc?

turned it off after a checkpoint saved...every other halo game auto saves after a checkpoint but upon turning on the console this morning there was no continue campaign option or anywhere to start from a save point

First Q: Never thought about that. Could be either/or if you ask me.

When I went through the campaign I beat it all at once, but I did stop when I got to a checkpoint on Oni Alpha Site for a while. I hit save and quit though, maybe it changed to where you have to hit save and quit now?

I restarted at the correct checkpoint luckily.

I actually ended up beating the game in one play through too, including replaying the first 3 missions again. Surprisingly, I still managed to finish it in about 4 1/2 hrs by myself on Normal. Made me realize how short the game really is.

From the comments above, sounds like i'm not the only one. It has to do with Jumping into a seperate co-op campaign game I guess....

You definitely have to select 'save and quit' in order to save. I found that out yesterday after I accidentally signed out of my profile. My only question is whether or not I have to redo past flashbacks in order to finish the game and see the ending. What a pain in the ass. What's weird is the ONI mission was the last one I finished yet the game stored every unlocked weapon cache and the audio files I had found up to that point.

To be fair, Normal was probably not the setting I should've chosen. I played through H3 on Heroic the first time through and I probably should've done so this time, I just didn't want to bother with it quite yet because I was eager to get through the campaign and get to FF.

But Firefight makes the game completely worth it. I spent about 5 hrs playing it yesterday with people from CAG and GAF, and that was only for 3 games.

Also, play the game solo. If you play it on co-op the first time, it ruins the game's atmosphere and overall difficulty.

That's how I'm doing it.
I'm playing it solo on heroic and to be quite honest I'm not too sure where I am. lol
I think I finally got out of the city core, but really have no clue what's going on. lol
Maybe I suck but I've probably spent about 4hrs on the campaign and while I wouldn't say it's easy, it's sort of tough at times too. Their have been a few times I've just ended up running and hoping I don't get shot at!

Then again I only finished Halo 2 and 3 on normal modes, still I am liking the game. :applause:

I mean I can't knock on anyone for playing on co-op the first time if they want to, but again, it takes away from the game. Pretty much everyone here or on GAF who has said they were underwhelmed by the campaign has played it co op.

You guys should really try Firefight though, ish gets intense.

Haha, ya that was pretty funny.

What I don't like really though is how you can't stop to listen because the game isn't paused or if you go on ahead you can't really hear what's happening around you, ie. getting shot at until you get shot.

Really liking the game so far. The music and graphics are great and I heard the story gets really cool later on. The weapons are taking a lot of bullets to kill dudes, I guess because I'm playing on Heroic. Don't mind too much, as it just makes me try out different guns more often than I usually do in Halo. Playing as Buck right now, so I just started, obviously. I've been exploring every alley and other path but haven't found any of the audio logs or anything interesting which I'm disappointed in. I'll keep exploring and hope to find stuff though.

Installed both discs and it doesn't seem to be loading slowly for either.

Pretty psyched that I got this game for so cheap at Amazon. Should get Halo Wars from Amazon tomorrow also, so I'm really getting back into Halo now. Might even read one of the books I've had for so long.

First: Mmk, at least I wasn't going crazy about it. And that is plausible to be either as both continue to go on (even the one that shoots at you).

Second: Yea, you should. Coop makes it pretty damn easy, so it shouldn't be too hard. Like I said, it shows the superintendent (data center where you met the engineer) with a few Covenant engineers floating in space above it. Then a prophet floats down from the roof of the "cave" and points down at, what looks to be, some type of Halo ring or other device in a hole down a small hill from the superintendent. And then it ends...

Does anyone else feel that the tone for this game is just wrong? I never really got the feeling that the human race was one step away from extinction. Anyone remember that Halo 3 ad where they show a huge model of a battle where people are getting butchered and look desperate? Thats the tone this game needed.

Also the melee is way too effective, even on legendary. I can buy that Master Chief could punch an 800 lb gorilla monster in the back and kill it no problem, but a marine? I mean in a fight between a gorilla and Kimbo Slice, I would take the gorilla any day of the week, even if Kimbo got the drop on it and he had a solid object to hit it with.

One more gripe Everyone lives!? I think the story would have been better if you track down your squadmates corpses and relive their glorious last stands all the while discovering what your mission was and then ultimately completing it.

All in all the game is great, the opening sequence where you drop is pretty awesome, the night vision effect is really cool, it's more halo campaign which is also awesome, and Firefight seems like it will be alot of fun once some of my friends pick up the game.

The idea of a "one hit kill melee" in the back has been with the series since Halo 1, I wouldn't expect them nor want them to change that.

I was actually glad they all lived. I liked all the characters so much, I literally thought to myself while I was playing "Man I'm gonna be pissed if anyone dies." But, Bungie's storytelling throughout their games is that the central story has always a been a bit lighter than the actual heavy and dark setting they take place in. But I agree, if Bungie wanted to make a super hardcore, dramatic war-time story with death everywhere, I'd be down for that. Except I'm in the personal opinion that game stories cannot match the impact of a movie or a book that may tell the same exact story, so I'm not sure how well that'd go over.

Oh my god, words cannot even express the idiocy the NPCs have when it comes to driving vehicles around. It is easily the worst driving AI I have experienced in half a decade. The idiots would drive into shit ON A NON-STOP BASIS, including walls or just sit out in the open when they're being shot at by a wraith.

Driver: Hey, look! There's a cliff side! *Rams warthog into the cliff side*
Me: Dumbass.
Driver: Fuck you, now I'm going to sit here and let us get shot at by wraiths.
Me: ...

Thought it was a one or two time fluke at first but very quickly found out it wasn't. Those people need to be put up for the Darwin Awards or something because they're Grade A+ retards.

we were all very excited to play 4 player coop on release day when Halo 3 came out... but we were all extremly disappointed with what a failure it was because it was so pathetically easy even on legendary. we beat the whole thing in 4 hours the day it came out (compared to weeks for Halo 1 and 2)

it wasn't until 6 months later that we figured out how to make Halo 3 4 player coop an enjoyable challenge by finding and turning on all the skulls, but by then it was too late. also, it is ridiculous that i have to play through the entire game at least once (to find all the skulls) before i can play it again the way i want to play it

before i go out and buy ODST and round up my friends to play, i need to know about the 4 player coop difficulty. is it sissy mode on legendary again? is there once again a hidden method to make the game challenging? do i have to play through the game once, thus ruining the experience, before i can unlock this mode?

thanks for your help

before i go out and buy ODST and round up my friends to play, i need to know about the 4 player coop difficulty. is it sissy mode on legendary again? is there once again a hidden method to make the game challenging? do i have to play through the game once, thus ruining the experience, before i can unlock this mode?p

You can turn on skulls in ODST without having beat the game. I'm not sure if they take them from Halo 3 or if they're built in automatically as I got all the skulls in Halo 3 already.

Also, the game is played a bit different than Halo 3 but not a whole lot. You don't have as much overall health before you die and thus are forced to take cover a little more. Firefight is also a seemingly a challenge depending on the map and such. Granted it could just be because I have this skull enabled called "HotShotX" that eats up your teams life pool.

EDIT: Also firefight is a blast with people and will increasingly become more difficult. I don't believe there's an end to the levels either.

Alright, I need help. So, was playing the ONI Alpha Base, made it almost to the end of the level, and had to leave. So, I shut off my Xbox without saving and quitting. Coming back and noticing this, I DID NOT want to walk through the streets again. So I just started from the level itself from the Campaign option (stupidy I may add, didn't read the prompt). I beat the level, was sent back to streets, where I was sent to pick up the next item. The item was the recon helmet from the beginning of the game. I picked it up and was sent back to the first level.

So, now I can't choose the next level on Campaign. So, I have two options:
1. BEAT THE ENITRE PARTS OVER AGAIN (I'm playing on legendary, NOT doing that again)
2. Play co-op with my friends that have beat the game.

So, heres my question, if I go through the games with friends, will I still get the achivements for beating the levels? Or can I just re-do ONI Alpha Base on Legendary and try to get it to redirect me to the correct item?

Is anybody else having trouble with the audiofiles or knows what the heck is going on? I've played all the way to the last 2 maps on Legendary Co-op with a friend and decided to play through normal by myself to snag all the level and collectible achievements.

I found a map listing all the audio file locations, and I'm coming up to several of them and they're not yellow in the hud or giving me the "Press RB to collect" options. I wanna say it's already collected, but my achievement tracker doesn't list it.

For example:
Start new campaign file
Audio file #1 is collected and shows 1/30 in my tracker
Audio file #2 isn't showing up, assuming it's already collected
Audio file #3 is collected but my tracker only shows 2/30 collected

I've even deleted my game save, cleared my 360 cache, and started a new save and now file 1 isn't even showing up.

Am I just being a paranoid freak and the 30 files will appear after beating the game or Bungie is keeping track of this so it doesn't matter what my tracker says or what?

Just played some firefight a little while ago, scored a little more than 850,000 on heroic on Lost Platoon. Would've gotten a ton more but the guys I was playing with had a 8 o'clock class. I think we had like 13 lives remaining.

Our total playtime was an hr and 39 mins.

i have all the skulls in Halo 3 so that sounds good...

the most important one is probably Iron... or the respawn system in general. Having 4 players in Halo 3, and anyone ONE player being able to respawn the other THREE just made the campaign too easy. You could have one guy always hang back a little and play safety and you would never have to restart. How does ODST handle this?

Lost Platoon should be a good one to do the Heroic Vidoc on since the Spartan Laser one-hits wraiths at that difficulty still. I know someone on my friends list who has like 1.5 million score on that level for Heroic with two hours of play. Don't know if he died at that point or if he quit, but I do know he has all the vidoc achievements.

I did Windward yesterday with a group of four yesterday and while we didn't get a high score in terms of time spent, we still hit the 200k achievement. Having it such close quarters is pretty hectic at times, but it's fun to get killionaires the as covenant are dropping troops on the landing pad (when they actually drop them there anyways). My group probably would have scored higher on the level, but someone got kicked off of Live and it killed the game. They really need to fix that. -_-

Some audio files don't appear until after you've beaten some of the missions. I think what you want to do is complete the entire campaign, then from the main menu, choose campaign -> replay mission -> Mombosa Streets. Then you should be able to collect all 29 there. Then SAVE AND QUIT, then replay Data Hive for the last one.

Are all the audio files in each difficulty or only some in each? I played on normal alone and could only find like 13.

You can get all 30 in any difficulty. Some of them are pretty well hidden. I used this (http://achievementhunter.com/games/halo3odst/guide/)guide, the videos made it alot easier

If you look at your map, you should be able to select any of the mission locations you haven't done since you restarted (ie: chose a level from the level select). I would guess the next level is also available to select, so you should select the objective at the bottom of your list. That is, unless the game requires you to have all previous missions beaten in one play through before it unlocks the next one - which would be dumb.

To everyone annoyed by the save system, remember that your viewfinder data (whatever it's called) is what's really important. It keeps track of missions you've unlocked and audio files you've found, and it seems to be saving constantly. The checkpoints just save the state of your inventory and the level.

I haven't experimented enough to confirm that, but it seems to be the intent of the game, at least.

EDIT: On loading up the game, I see that I don't have the underground access on my map, even though I have everything else. So, I don't know what you have to do.

I beat the campaign on solo Legendary a couple of days ago, and I enjoyed it. It didn't feel particularly short, but it was less substantial. Basically, the game seems to have a similar number of levels to other Halos, but they're easier and shorter, and half of them are completely vehicle based (which of course, makes them easier). I'm a little surprised to hear about people feeling vulnerable and using stealth in New Mombasa, because it never occurred to me. Maybe if the Rookie was more vulnerable than the people in the missions, the feeling would have clicked, but as it is, I saw no reason to stop the killing once I got back into the Rookie's head.

I thought the invincible NPC squad-mates kind of screwed up the game. Parts that should have been a challenge, like encounters with Brute Chieftains (with the hammers), became easy when the enemies spent their time trying to kill the NPCs. Just wait for the chieftain to to start murdering Buck, then shoot him in the back.

I like Firefight, but I think I prefer GoW's Hoard set-up more. Possibly because I or my friends just lack skill, I prefer shorter challenges and quick restarts than the drawn out intensity of Firefight. I can't deny that success in Firefight is rewarding, though.

IGN: How much longer will new maps continue to be made for Halo 3? Have resources been shifted to Halo 3: ODST (http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/852/852871.html) or is there yet more to come?

Brian Jarrard: We haven't actually been working on new maps for quite a while aside from some final testing and preparations for release. These days, we've got a smaller team that's focused on finishing the ODST campaign and all that it entails while the rest of the studio continues making progress on other, larger, secret projects. Once the Mythic maps are released this Spring, fans will still be able to look forward to a few more exclusive new maps that will be included in the Halo 3: ODST release later this Fall. Overall though, we are viewing the ODST campaign and the included multiplayer maps as the final exclamation point in our ongoing efforts to extend the Halo 3 experience. We're really grateful to our fans for standing by Halo 3 for so long and continuing to show us such strong support. It's been a great ride thus far and but it's not quite over yet. With the wide open possibilities of Sandbox and Forge, two additional solid maps and some new achievements, players will hopefully find plenty of ways to keep having fun with Halo 3 before we unleash ODST later this Fall

You do, but it's also more difficult too of course. Maybe they're just not that great at staying alive or they've been playing with one other person at that difficulty. It also depends on the level as some are more difficult than others.

Installing the Mythic disc defiantly is not going to improve the loading times. The game was and still engineered pre-NXE times and the architecture of the game will still make it slower and perform worse.

From the ODST FAQ:

Q. So, if I’ve got room on my hard drive, I should install this sucker for faster loading?

A. Nope. Halo 3: Mythic is for all intents and purposes, Halo 3. When we built Halo 3, NXE installations were the stuff of the future. As a result, installing Halo 3: Mythic will result in slower load times for you and all your friends (and people you care about will be disappointed in you).

HOLY HELL firefight is addicting! I just played single player crater for 181 minutes and only got up once. I'm not even a Halo guy but they nailed this mode besides the MP part.

Made it to Set 4, round 1, wave 4 before I died.......died with 192,000 points lol so close.. Shit gets hard I ran out of decent weapons and had to beat down one of those big guys so I could get his weapon to knock down the other 4 guys shells. Finally the last damn guy alive whacked me with a hammer. :D

It's not like the Fallout/Oblivion DLC. It's an actual game disk, it's just the Halo 3 MP only on the disc. You have to have the game disc in the drive for you to be able to play it, just like any other installed 360 game.

Correct Monsta Mack.

Also beware that if you start a co-op level with 2-4 players, and one of them disconnects for whatever reason, you won't get credit for completing it. You have to finish the level with the same number of players as you started with to get credit for completing the level.

Same thing happened in Halo 3. The screen adjusts to give the correct aspect ratio for both players. This also the reason why you can't do 4 player co-op on one 360.

What exactly was Bungie thinking about when they decided to not have matchmaking for Firefight?

If I recall correctly I think it was a matter of people griefing while you play. It sort of makes sense, if you're going after the achievements and all and judging by the general nature of people you run into during typical Halo matchmaking.

Feel free to FR me for Firefight, the lack of matchmaking for it made me a sad man.

I thought it was because matchmaking wasn't in the game engine for Halo 3 co-op, and they didn't have time to add it to the engine for use in FF.

Anyone else having problems with the first Vidmaster: Classic achievement? I thought I successfully pulled it off three different times (no shots fired, no grenades tossed on Legendary), but never received the achievement.

To my understanding the requirements are here (It's possible that some of these are false, but it's not a bad guide to go by):

You can:
- Have NPCs be in your warthog as gunner/passenger
- Trade weapons with an NPC (They have unlimited ammo)
- Skip cutscenes
- Splatter enemies
- Boost on a ghost
- Die
- Hijack vehicles

You can't:
- Powerlide (LT) with the warthog
- Use any weapon, including behicle weapons (Although I hear some people who 'miss' still get it)
- Honk the warthogs horn (RT)
- Throw grenades
- Enter visr mode (Select)
- Have anyone else with you in the game.

I've also heard that scoring must be on, but I don't know. It took me two runs to get the achievement with the only changes between the two being that I didn't powerslide, I switched from free to all to team scoring, and I accidently died once at the very end but figured since I was 5 feet from the end to just finish it up anyways.

Gamer SDP, don't feel bad. I'd consider myself a well-versed veteran of the series, and trying Legendary solo for me was excrutiating. I was able to beat Halo 1 and 2 on Legendary no problems. But ODST seems to be a bit more frustrating.

Take cover, pop out, fire a few shots, and then go back to cover. Also, prioritize your targets according to the weapons you have. If you got something with long-range stopping power, like the sniper rifle, try to eliminate any Brutes that are in a patrol group. Then, you can mop up the scrubs after that. If you have an assault rifle and a pistol, try to head shot grunts and such from a distance and then worry about going in for the kill on anything bigger.

You can see the Set, Round, and Wave while playing firefight. It's in the top left of the screen.

The number is the set which increases after three rounds (and a bonus "wave"). The three dots are the rounds that increase after five waves. Last, the five parallelograms or square-like shapes below it are the waves. At least I think they're parallelograms? I don't really remember.

As for the audio, you could use this I suppose:

Yeah well the internet smarty pants got it for around $40 or less after all of Amazon's insane discounts. I know I'm not the only one who paid $30 or less for it when it was all said and done.

Gamestop and other retailers are bound to have tons of used copies for those that don't keep it for fire fight or have most of the maps already, so I'm sure down the road we'll see a lot more deals on ODST. Unless everyone ends up holding onto it for the Reach beta.

This may have been mentioned, but don't try to find the audio logs in co-op. We loaded up the final mission and took a couple of hours to find the 29 logs. Then when we loaded up Data Hive, it erased our log progress. :bomb: There's no reason for Bungie to have set it up like that. I was super pissed.

I imagine that if you were doing co-op with friends and made sure to get all 29 before Data Hive occurs, it would work? At any rate, I went into single player and refound them all.

FireFight can be lots of fun but it is certainly frustrating trying to get 4 people in a party. Even having access to GAF FireFight 1 and CAG FireFight is not enough.

I noticed CAG FireFight (http://live.xbox.com/en-CA/profile/profile.aspx?pp=0&GamerTag=CAG+FireFight) only has 57 names. Everyone interested in FF should add this gamertag to their Friends List - that way we all have access to each other (and at 1:30 am you will appreciate it!).

Haha, we actually had a pretty quick run at Vidmaster: Annual so partying up must be the way to go for these ones as well, right?

It was definitely much smoother than my first try where 2 people had no mic and we were at the 90 min mark before someone's connection flaked out and kicked one of us out of the party.

TrueAchievements has some good strategies for Endure, but it looks like a 2-3 hour grind either way, with the possibility of it all going to crap by losing all the lives. I haven't looked too much at Deja Vu, but I have some idea what to expect there.

Yes. The same save system Halo has been using for 8 years. It blows my mind that people are having problems figuring this out when we've had three previous games that functioned identically.

bigdaddybruce44
09-30-2009, 10:49 AM
I've played the three previous Halo games, and it happened to me, too. Here's why. It's an archaic system. Almost every game I have played in the last few years has an auto-save feature. Granted, there's no warning about an auto-save, so you would think that should have tipped me off, but it's so ingrained in my mind at this point, I don't even think to look.

Corvin
09-30-2009, 10:57 AM
I didn't say it wasn't archaic, quite frankly, it's a terrible system. That doesn't change the fact that even the most recent game which this game shares an engine and title with uses the same save system.

Plus if you are watching your HUD you frequently see "Loading" or "Checkpoint Done," not "saving progress."

End of discussion. It shouldn't "blow your mind" that this happens. Check the boards everywhere. It happens to a lot of people, because the system is awful, and it bucks the trend that almost every game today has set. Like I said, nothing at all should make you think there is an auto-save feature, but the reality, people are use to it, so they assume. It happens. If people were chewing on their ODST discs and then wondering why they don't work, that should definitely blow your mind.

This might be what you are looking for:

Yep, that's what I used, but only for a few of them there were tucked away in buildings or something. Most of the logs are out in the open and hard to miss. Plus, if you've noticed, whenever you get remotely close to an active log, the Super will set off cues, like car alarms and traffic lights. Good luck finding them and enjoy. I liked the story that unraveled and really made me want to find them, which is generally not the case with collectibles.

End of discussion. It shouldn't "blow your mind" that this happens. Check the boards everywhere. It happens to a lot of people, because the system is awful, and it bucks the trend that almost every game today has set.

It's not really bucking a trend if the three games preceding this one have the same exact save system, it's following a pattern. Bucking a trend would be if the first three had autosave and this changed it to save points on the map. What other games offer is irrelevant. i.e. GTAIV has autosave so ODST must? Nah, that argument doesn't work. It has to be judged on the basis of the franchise itself.

Why do people assume there is an autosave, especially when nothing anywhere mentions it, or pops up in the HUD?

Also, playing a game with an autosave feature and getting screwed by it sucks. For example, you get to a point to trigger the autosave only to realize you wasted every last drop of your ammo getting there and now everytime you restart you have to get your ass handed to you repeatedly because you have no ammo.

CokeCola

ODST is not quite the same as other Halos. In every other game, checkpoints are just your position in the level. If you want to start at the beginning of the level, there's no reason to save and quit - you can just select the proper level from the list when you want to start. But in ODST, thanks to the New Mombasa over-world, selecting a level from the list makes the game forget what levels you've completed, so you have to beat those levels again to access the end of the game (from Datahive on).

I think.

SoulReaver

As for beating Legendary on your own? Well just plug in a second controller and hide the second controllers character somewhere. Takes a awhile to beat legendary but at least that way you can have infinite respawns.

But the best way obviously is to go 4 player co-op on Legendary. You'll blow through this game faster then Halo 3 from what I've heard.

They're not the same thing, at least in this case. The frame rate is fine, but the game pauses. It's still running at 30 FPS, it's just waiting for the network connection to catch up. I'm saying it's clearly not an issue with too much action on screen, but to too much strain on the network.

Of course, this being the Internet, you could just assume I'm the idiot.

I loved the Halo series, but this seemed too much like Halo 3. Is the campaign and firefight mode really worth it? The maps are, because I never payed for any of them thus far.

Campaign is pretty short. Took me about 6 hours to complete on normal. I like the story. Plus there also a side story through the audio files. I love firefight it addicting. You can also do co-op on campaign. With ECA discount, you can get it for $48.

I have no problem with the length. I'm playing solo Legendary the first time through and it's taking some time. I'm probably over the 6 hour mark already and am only halfway through Data Hive. I figure I'll knock it down to easy/normal to hunt for the audio logs I missed and achievements the second time through.

People that are finishing under 6 hours need to bump up the difficulty.

How many audio logs are there anyway? I think I'm sitting at 9 or 10 so far.

I recently finished the campaign on Legendary on my own and I'd say it took me about 12 hours or so. Also I didn't do much exploration looking for the audio logs either but I do feel that Halo 3s campaign was much harder than ODSTs on Legendary well at least the enemies did seem tougher to kill in H3. I just went back to get all 30 audio logs.

Also, ODST with you and Syn tonight?

Except for the FPS lag, any of you guys experiencing controller lag? my left stick is constantly half a second behind my actual inputs, only the left stick though, i know Cheapy mentioned it but it's really wierd.

It happened once to me, but it shifted between that and the pausing other people were talking about. Definitely wasn't my connection though, make sure the people you play with have a good connection.

It has embedded youtube video links for each log AND locations for how to get Naughty Naughty. Although the latter might be incomplete.

Also, if you want something printable, use Print Screen.

I took the image above and inverted the colors and fiddled with the levels a bit in photoshop. I also shrunk it down to make it easily printable. It ain't pretty, but it should work. I printed a test page and it looks fine.

I can help out with the first one, and maybe part of Vidmaster: Classic (I still haven't completed my Campaign yet so I want to do that first, including all of the Audio logs). Endure...maybe another time, because that's a hard one to get.

I have a quick question for Halo3 ODST. My friend and I like to play co-op games together. We played through Halo 1, 2, 3, Gears of War 1, 2, Army of two, etc. We like playing the campaigns but since only he has the 360 and no XBL we always play split screen co-op.

Forgive me for not going through all 25 pages in this thread but is there a split screen co-op campaign in ODST? I can't tell exactly if co-op is Firefight mode only, or also if it is XBL based only or split screen.

Thanks

I still need to do 2 more Firefights (Chasm Ten and Security Zone) as well as Campaign on Legendary with Good Samaritan.

After that, I might start Halo 3 once again so I can get 1750g. I still have a while to get Lightswitch, though. And I kind of don't want to play alone to get that.

Went for Vidmaster: Endure last night with Prof. Mustard and two other guys. Was almost through the third round after an hour and a half before one of our guys decided to quit out. Man, I was pissed. It was a solid run, too. We could have done it.

Just a reminder, if you don't have two hours to kill, don't join up with a party going after the Endure achievement. It's not fair to the other three guys.

Forgot to save my campaign progress after playing for an hour or two yesterday. I've made sure to remember to save since I read others post about it not having autosave. First time I've screwed up a game save like this. Not too pissed since going back through it will still be fun. I'm loving this game so far.
