So I did a little research before coming here, and I'm still a bit confused.

The monitor I'm about to purchase is a Samsung with HDCP support.

I know that in order to get video on the monitor I need an HDMI to DVI cable. The ones on Newegg do this, but that's all they do. Basically, I'm fairly certain that's all I need to hook my PS3 up to the monitor, but I'd rather not waste $13 shipped on it if I'm wrong.

I'm also not entirely sure how to get sound to work on it, but I do have external speakers I use for my laptop that I'm thinking should be able to work...I don't know for sure though, so I'd like some confirmation on this.

And...if there's anything else I need to know about this process, I'd really appreciate the advice. Thanks.

I hook my ps3 up to my monitor via and hdmi to dvi cable and it looks great. A nice thing about the ps3 is the ability to use another set of component or composite cables for the audio, or an optical audio cable (which is what i use, works like a charm with my 5.1 headphones and speakers.) 13 shipped for an hdmi to dvi cable seems about right too. I actually bought some really expensive ones from best buy because im stupid but have since wised up.

The only thing to be aware about is that some monitors (like my old one) don't have aspect ratio correction, so it may force a 16:9 signal into 16:10, so it will be a vertically scruntched up. I played mgs4 like that and snake looked really skinny, never mind when i played gears of war and Marcus Fenix looked almost like a not so beefy regular dude. with my new monitor it will bring the beef back.

If you are aware of some of the aspect ratio issues and are ok with it, do it! Its totally worth it.

Wow. Thanks a lot. :)

Yeah, it's got aspect ratio correction. The model. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001268)

I'll buy them both a bit later tonight, thanks again.

The Samsung I have accepts HDMI, maybe you should look for a monitor that takes it directly? It's the easiest solution, although it probably costs more than the monitor you're looking at.

Meh. I'm a CAG, so I'll go with the cheapest offer.

Just bought a cable and the monitor. Thanks, guys.
