View Full Version : Ugh, annoying problem with Firefox

Alright, so I started up FireFox 0.9.1. However, this time was different: it asked me which user to choose.
"What?" I thought to myself?
The only one there was "default", so I naturally thought, okay, that's the one I must use. I tried using it, and it said "already in use, please try another log-in" or something along those words.
"Hm..."
So, I made another user. BIG mistake. Creating this new user (the other one should still be there) has its settings all to default, like homepage, themes, etc. The worst part is... I don't have ANY of my bookmarks. ARGH.
Anyone know anything that can help me get my things back?

Try re-importing them from IE. You'll get all the old ones but none of the ones you created since. To do that you might want to dig in the firefox Program Files folder and see what sort of bookmarks are there. Once you've found and backed them up, uninstall Firefox, reboot, and re-install. Best bet IMO.

I've never messed with users in firefox, but I would think there is a file saving the settings for each one. Find it and copy what you need into the new account. Sorry if that doesn't really help, it's all I can do without it in front of me (I'm at school right now.)

0.9.3 is out - install that and it should import your favorites from 0.9.1

The thing is, I don't know what files contain that information, and I can't import from IE because that has very few of my bookmarks.

HA!!!!! That's gotta be the funniest thing I've read today... I can't believe someone actually used the words "Browser that works" and "IE" in the same sentence....

I've been using Firefox since 0.9 and I'm currently using the pre-release version. I encountered some problems with it. I went to ebgames.com and added max payne 2 to my shopping cart then when I tried to delete it from the shopping cart it would not let me do it. I also have trouble running java applet from firefox browser. Anyone know what cause these problems? Is the Firefox browser causing these problems or are those websites causing these problems because they don't support Firefox? I'm interested in Firefox browser because it is suppose to be a more secure browser. Have you guys find any more problems with Firefox?
Moxio, I encountered a similar problem when I used Netscape 7.2. Netscape asked me to create another user and would not let me use my default one. After creating another user the Netscape browser shows this windows to ask for me to choose between the default and the new user every time I start up the netscape browser, this is so annoying. How do I fix it? I just want to use one user and one setting (and I don't want to see that windows ever to come up again for me to choose between the users).

Yes, it works very well for the people actually controlling your PC. For you... not so much.

One of the computers at my school has that happen when I open Mozilla sometimes. Its a Mac running OS 10.3, and there are 2 Mozilla icons in the list of programs at the bottom of the screen, and if you click on one of them when you opened Mozilla with the other icon it asks you to chose a user, and default is the only one to come up.

Why pay for a browser when you can get Firefox for free?
Anybody else liking Firefox 1.0 a lot?

The thing that bugs me about Avant is that all it does is sit on top of IE - so you're not getting away from any of IE's inherent security issues, you're just putting a pretty picture on them. Nothing's solved.

Moxio, I got the same thing as you when using Firefox PR 1.0 today. Firefox asked me to choose the user profile to use. I choose default and it said it is already in use. I restart my system and Firefox didn't ask me about it again. I guess it is just a glitch in Firefox that sometimes happens when you opened up Firefox then close it and then open it up again. Just restart the system should fix it. And if you accidentally created another user profile just delete it afterwards so it wouldn't ask you which user profile to use every time you start up Firefox.

Opera is free. It only has a small ad-banner. I like IE for shopping sites and sites I know won't kill me with pop-ups. Otherwise I use Firefox. Avant is nice too but I think all that does is use IE as its base. Hell, I even use Lynx on occasion.

Ok, I just switched over from IE to Firefox after hearing all these nice things about Firefox, and so far I love it. I've only run into one problem, and I figure I should just hijack this thread instead of start a new one.
Problem: Whenever I use this site with IE and make a post, I could always highlight something and then hit the bold/italic/whatever wraps, and they would wrap the highlighted words. In Firefox, if I highlight a word and try to use the wrap, it puts the wrap at the end of my post, and not around what I highlighted. Any way to fix this?

Cause there aren't enough ads on the internet... :D
Ledhed, as far as your issue, it's most likely an issue of compatibility between the boards and Firefox. Probably nothing you can do about it. Nothing I can think of anyways...

Old-ass thread, dudes. = =
:P Not an Opera/IE vs Firefox debate.
