I sure hope the rumors are true and there really is a PS2 price drop after E3 because I just may need to pick one up along with some of them games :)
Thanks!!

it's worth noting that Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution will be released for $20.

As a side note, i hate the GH concept. There are tons of games that sell well past 400,000 and are over 9 months old, but are still full-price. The GH moniker is just a cover for "games that cost too much to make and whose sales are lagging so we have to recoup our losses somehow". For example, FFX sold well over 400,000 and came out in 2001, but it's STILL $40!!!

Uhh, when you sell 400,000 copies of a game, you really don't have many losses to recoup.

The greatest hits is a marketing concept that proved well in the PSone era. The point was that when a title hit a saturation point of the target audience (the people who would pay $40-$50 for the title) as well as a certain number of copies shipped (note not sold, explains why every acclaim title is a GH  ), they would give the publishers a substantial royalty break on the future units shipped, if the title complied with the greatest hits guidlines.

This concept actually shipped many more units and proved to be profitable for both SCEA and the publishers. SCEA was able to get additional royalties on titles that would have most likely been shelved because of market saturation. Publishers were able to sell more units because of favorable royalty rates to sell units at a reduced cost.

Units were sold to those who would never have purchased the title at a cost of $39.99+, but became interested in it at a reduced rate. This also was done to counter the used/pirate markets, by making new, quality, licensed product available for a unheard of rate.

Publishers are not obligated to take part in this program, however they are offered the opportunity to. Games like the Final Fantasies, DDRs, etc, that do meet the guidlines, may opt to stay out of the series because selling at full price, or even a slighter discount may be more profitable to them at the royalty rate that they are presently at.

Any news on Kingdom Hearts? I've seen the art for the new box on amazon and EB but everywhere I've been still has it listed at $50. In addition Best Buy since they have no record of an upcoming price drop (not that I trust that any). Also, any chance Kingdom Hearts is going to premier at the $30 point instead of $20?

Although Lord of the Rings is a greatest hit it is infact 29.99
Many people also see the GTA Bundle pack with the Greatest Hits logo on it and assume it's 19.99(Ha), but alas that ranks in at 29.99

Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance also a greatest hit COMPLETELY WORTH GETTING EVEN AT $50.....Tekken my ass, only topped by Soul Calibur II, VF4:Evo is great but it just doesn't have the uniqueness and amazing attitude of MK:DA.

side-note: SmackDown! Shut Your Mouth also a GH

are there actually any differences (packaging aside) between PS 2 GH and non-GH games?

I believe Silent Hill 2 had some additional content in the GH version, but I could be wrong.

I thought someone mentioned that too, which is why I asked. I posed the question to a worker at EB, and they didn't know, though someone who heard me ask it said the XBox version features more content, and PS 2 GH games aren't different than the originals.

is there anyone who has both versions of a game, preferrably Silent Hill 2 GH and non-GH, who can say for sure?

Yes...the Slient Hill 2 Greatest Hit for PS2 has the new scenario with the woman that was originally only included in the Xbox version.

Crash Bandicoot GH version they improved the load times (which were quite long originally).

waxHead, AFAIK, the only two games that have been changed as Greatest Hits are Silent Hill 2 and Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex, and Silent Hill 2 is the only one with something new to offer.

If you wanna be REALLY picky, Final Fantasy X is "Square Enix" now instead of just Square, I dunno if they actually bothered changing any screens in the game to reflect it.

suprsaiyanMAX

Ecks is indeed right at Silent Hill 2 is the only GH game in which the content of the actual game was changed....Changes on all other games have been purely superficial

Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance
Namco Museum
Onimusha 2
Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly
The Getaway

SF EX 3 really blows when it comes to single player you can't really pick out your own team. The character edit and trial missions give a bit replay but other than that, get some friends together and its pretty fun. Also it's the only current 3d SF with the tag teaming function.

As a side note, i hate the GH concept. There are tons of games that sell well past 400,000 and are over 9 months old, but are still full-price. The GH moniker is just a cover for "games that cost too much to make and whose sales are lagging so we have to recoup our losses somehow". For example, FFX sold well over 400,000 and came out in 2001, but it's STILL $40!!!
and? halo still isn't a platinum hit and it was a launch title

fireball343
08-11-2004, 08:11 PM
the whole GH and PH lines are just to lower prices at every store on games and re-release them to try to sell games. halo won't become one until it gets off the xbox top ten for a while(it's been on since month one) and halo 2 comes out, when it stops selling a ton at 30 bucks then it will go platnuim

This was not a greatest hit. It was a disaster of a game. Rockstar even admitted it. Why does the Greastest Hits list titles that weren't Greatest Hits. Where is Prince of Persia? That game was amazing, sold like crazy, and has a sequel coming out.

kill.switch
Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness
.

Are these seriously greatest hits games?

I mean, none of the Dynasty Warriors games have EVER gone GH, so it seems weird that a DW 4 spinoff type deal would be the first to break through. And kill.switch? Wasn't this game super cheap (5 dollars or so) everywhere for a long time? Maybe so many people bought it that it went GH lol.

And I can't believe the new Tomb Raider is on there... I remember reading sales were wayyyy below expectations so they fired the old team and put Crystal Dynamics on the new one.

I've never seen any of these three games in GH packaging ever, either.

I am quoting you. ;)

I'm pretty sure you're correct on that as I bought GTA: San Andreas as part of that deal the day it came out on Oct 26, 2004.

According to an email I got from The Playstaion Underground, 7 new games are going to turn "Greatest Hits" as of August 23, 2005

- ATV Offroad Fury 3
- Hot Shots Golf: FORE!
- Killzone
- Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal
- Jak 3
- Sly 2: Band of Thieves
- Syphon Filter: the Omega Strain

Here's the link they directed me to in the email:

NO Ace Combat 5?

Bullshit.

Mortal Kombat: Deception
Tony Hawk Underground 2

I got the 2005 Holiday playbook in the mail today, and it says Prince of Persia: Warrior Within and Dragonball Z: Budokai 3 are now Greatest Hits games. DBZ even has new cover art if the picture in this book is correct.

as well as NBA Street V3 and Resident Evil: Outbreak. I might pick up the latter for $15 after GGC since I think my PGrabber form is about to expire and EB never reduced it to $7 again.

What's the best route for getting the list updated PM CheapyD? A mod or what?

I'll compile all of the info from the past few months that's been posted and what is on Playstation.com as long as it's updated.

This was (and I thought there was another attempt at keeping it up to date, but couldn't find it) one of the best lists around even outdoing what was on Playstation.com

So what's everyone recommend?

Done....This update took me about 2 hours to get done. So Your Welcome :)

I used Cheapy's list, Playstation.com, what everyone posted here, and Gamefaqs.com.

Everything was double and triple checked to the best of my knowledge this list is 100% correct (or at least 99.5%)

Question??? Anyone have any objections to me basing the alphabetical list via the order of Playstation.com it would make it alot easier in the future to update.

Just wondering what the general concensus was (E.g. The Hulk starting with "H" and not "T")

Any updates either keep post'em here as you've been doing or PM me, either way.

Questions / Comments again either post'em here or PM me. Later.

Enjoy. :)

Here's the way I'm looking at it. (For the games not showing up in store as GH, but are on the Playstation.com list)

1.) They know something we don't. Highly Possible

2.) They screwed up. Again possible.

3.) They are forthcoming wheneven the new batch of GH's gets announced. A very likely scenerio.

I'll give it some time, and if it's proven that they're not coming, I'll ask for them to be removed. But I'm not going to keep altering the list, just because 1 or 2 aren't showing up for $19.99 at your local game emporium yet. That would be very counterproductive.

And you guys know as well as I do, finding definitive info on these games is next near to impossible. I almost left Syphon Filter off until I found 3 sites that corroberated the info because it wasn't listed in certain places.

Anyway we'll work with this for now, until something better comes along or someone else gets me definitive info saying yes or no.

About my question though, any problems with me reorganizing games that begin with "THE" to their logical posititon on the list alphabetically?

I'd like to do this with 007 as well since the official titles are James Bond 007. Foe my convience more than anything else.

Lemme know.

Need for Speed Underground 2 has been on the list for months, but still over 19.99. The PS.com list is not very reliable for in-store comparison.

NFSU 2 is in this weeks Best Buy ad so I'll consider that one confirmed, DBZ Budokai 3 has new GH cover art as well.

I noticed I messed up and listed Ghost Recon Jungle Storm twice and I left out Ghost Recon 2, I've corrected this on my personal list and will add it to the master list when next I update, sorry for the error.

Hopefully the other ones in dispute are added soon "officially" so I know one way or the other.

I had predicted in an earlier thread that the game would likely drop this month, but it doesn't look like it'll be happening. I suspect it'll be in the near future though. Sony's other, major IPs (Jak, Ratchet, Sly) have always dropped at the 9-10 month mark. I can only assume they're milking the 49.99 price point as long as possible.

Copies are getting scarce in my area, but I'm still going to wait for the drop.

uncle5555

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it to happen (GoW) maybe by May or so we'll see it, DMC 3 took round about 1 year to make it.

Small Note: DMC 3: DA (Special Edition) has an extra difficulty, Virgil is playable, boss fight against Jester, Bloody Palace mode added, alternate continue system, turbo function, Demo Digest (cinema viewer) (Source: Gamepro) if you want to know more I suggest going to Gamefaqs.

Anyway I 've updated the list, added DMC 3 (of course also denote it's extra content from the original release) added Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 2, I left off of the list last time, and moved a few others down to the unconfirmed section (Lego Star Wars and Tekken 5)

I also changed the order of some of the other games based on if The was the first word in the name as well as renamed the 007 games to James Bond 007.

If you see any errors in the list lemme know.

Ok my mistake, I thought it came out in Jan of last year. (DMC3) and around May for GoW.

3/01/05 DMC3
3/22/05 GoW

I still don't think we'll see it until March / April at the earliest Sony doesn't have a set date for releasing new GH games but 1st party stuff they usually try to lump together and make a big press release about. (Evidenced this past Nov. when RC: UYA, Jak 3, and HSGF were released)

What qualifies for Greatest Hits status? Dragon Quest shipped something like 430,000 copies already. Does this guarantee it'll go Greatest Hits eventually or not?

Lego Star Wars is a greatest hits now (having the red GH banner now in the new pressing). Btw, it's only $15 at Target this week.

What qualifies for Greatest Hits status? Dragon Quest shipped something like 430,000 copies already. Does this guarantee it'll go Greatest Hits eventually or not?
The figures most often bandied about are ~400,000 copies within nine months of release.

That's been known to be not entirely accurate in all cases, but that's how it's suppose to go. Out of the 200 (yes that many now) I'd be highly suprised if all of them sold 400k. Very suprised (since there is some real crap on there)

Thanks to everyone who posted updates

I noticed San Andreas was GH, but didn't know about the others, funny thing is Best Buy in their sales ad this week had SW Eps 3, but it was not available (as far as I saw) on their online site.

I had to complain to the manager of telephone orders to get them to look into the "problem" of those titles not being available for the sale, so hopefully I'll get my copies of DMC3 and R&C UYA for $30. Or not.

Lego Star Wars now taken off of unconfirmed and re-added to list, any further word on Tekken 5?

List updated (I'm PM the info to get it updated) Keep'em coming and I'll keep the list updated. :)

I'm not going to bug Trakan again to update but we missed one.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory (Ubisoft)

This was in the BB ad this week, and it slipped right past me.

I added it to my list and it will be added in the next update. Hopefully along with GoW. :D

If there are anymore I missed lemme know.

Very suprised (since there is some real crap on there) I know what you mean. I suspect it's used as a marketing ploy in some cases. "Hey, that game has a GH label. Must be a good game. I better buy it!"

Got it.

Thanks Trakan, I appreciate it. :)

Nice avatar btw, Clive rocks, where is that from though, it's not Privateer 2 is it? I don't recognize it.

Apparently GoW and Grand Turismo 4 are both going GW soon. In some of the other topics here on CAG, they've posted price drops for both games and links to Best Buy and other places.

GoW
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....0625624 41713 (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6010531&type=product&id=1062562441713)

GT4
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....0993957 44457 (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....0993957 44457)

When they are "officially" red barred I'll add them to the list. Until then I'll consider them as price drops.

Still can't believe people complain about getting the red label, (as I read on the other topics) when there are alot of cool games with extras on them, eh whatever, I don't mind getting the red bar stuff, I'm not that picky, it's the price that counts anyway. :)

Back to work.

Thanks for the two new additions but please if you can post links for proof.

This way I can confirm one way or the other their existence. For now I'll add them to the unconfirmed section of the list until then.

Thanks for the heads up though. :)

I've added all the ones that were submitted, double checked for info online and only found references to GH listing (except for WWE Smackdown vs. RAW which was on playstation.com and confirmed)

211 GH's now!?! :o

Thanks for all the help with keeping this up to date.

As always lemme know when something new crops up.

I have just a quick general question. Sometimes there is a generic GH sticker put on the outside wrapping of the game (on top). How easily do they come off?

I think the following titles should be marked with ** since both contain materials not in the original release.

Dragonball Z: Budokai 3 (Atari) (Different Cover Art)
Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition Remix (Rockstar)

Edit: Sorry read your post incorrectly.

What changes were included in the GH version of Budokai 3?

(Nevermind, I just confirmed the changes at Gamefaqs.)

Still need info on the differences with Midnight Club though.

Just out of curiosity, what's different in Midnight Club 3: DER? From the regular release?

I'd like to know before I add it to the official release list (and it won't be changed until some new GH games get released, I'll change it internally though after I get an answer)

I don't know everyone I own (which is quite a few always were part of the packaging. I know GTA: SA had what you are talking about on it, it is probably secured on there with Rubber Cement on it, and won't come off to easily unless you yank it off, but the red label can probably get damaged pretty easily if not placed somewhere safe.

I'm still waiting for Champions: Return to Arms to become a greatest hit. Or cheaper than the current $29.99 price tag.

Cover art of it as a GH is on Gamestop's site, so it'll probably be available as one in just a couple of weeks.

next couple of days you should see several newer games hitting greatest hits. We just got a new displayer at the circuit city i work at and its for the new geatest hits. The ones they show that take the drop will be: shadow of the collosus, Jak X, Ratchet: Deadlocked, and Socom 3. Plus if theres anyone lookin for psp games a bunch of thoes become greatest hits as well. I'll check on thoes ones today when i work and post them.

So hopefully this will excite a bunch of you.

I'm looking to get the PSP soon, so I'm definitely excited about PSP GH games. I saw Midnight Club 3 as one today at BB, and it's just a red stripe instead of black on top, and a small red stripe below that - much less intrusive than the PS2 GH changes.

A week or so ago I saw a post on Kotaku that Shadow of the Colossus was supposed to be GHing, along with Jak X and Sly 3. Yet, my checking of prices still puts SotC at $40. No doubt it's worth it, but does anyone know when it'll actually drop to $20?

Ok with the latest batch of new games coming down I updated the list (only a 4 month wait between updates this time) =P

5 new additions added (All SCEA first party titles)

For the record, I'm not giving Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition Remix a special recognition as far as differences from the original release to the GH release.

I couldn't find any hard info about changes when I looked into it and the OP never told me what they were so if somone is inclined and knows the differences lemme know and I'll denote that it's got changes in it.

That will help keep this list up to date and as accurate as possible.

I'd be suprised if we see one more batch of games go GH before the PS3 launches in Nov. and I'd really be suprised if we see more than 6-12 games added before the PS2 GH line is done for good, still not a bad run for adding more than 218 titles over 5 years.

Anyway onto the new list.

Any new additions post'em here and I'll get to it when I update next. Thanks for the help as always.

See ya next update. :)

I added all three to the list. But can someone confirm or at least provide a link for Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects, I couldn't find anything for the game saying that it had gone GH and I looked for over an hour for any evidence of that.

Either someone else who's seen it or preferably a link showing it.

After I get confirmation I'll repost the updated list.

Thanks Again for all the help. :)

Edit: Nevermind, Raptors told me to check Playstation.com's list and it was on there (for both Burnout and Rise of the Imperfects)

I'll double check their list to make sure I'm not missing anything then post it here when I get done. ;)

Mega List update. Apparently in the last few months Sony's been throwing on a $#!% load of new games on the GH list and I've been sleeping on the job. =P

Anyway list is updated to conincide with the Official listing on Playstation.com (That is still woefully inaccurate, Btw)

Sony only officially counts 162 titles as part of the PS2 GH line, so either I'm way off (which I'm not) or they need to do some major adding to their list.

And apparently I need to learn how to count again because I was 38 games off the actual count...:applause: which is 191. (Still more than what Sony says there are)

My list should be 99% accurate now. It will never be 100%, but I call this an achievement in itself and due in large part to the help I get here.

11 New Games Added Since Last Update.

Blitz®: The Leauge™ (Midway)
Burnout Revenge (EA)
Dragon Quest VIII (Square-Enix)
Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, The (VU Games)
Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects (EA)

Star Wars: Battlefront II (LucasArts)

Jak X: Combat Racing (SCEA)
Ratchet: Deadlocked (SCEA)
Shadow of the Colossus (SCEA)
Sly Cooper 3: Honor Among Thieves (SCEA)
SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy Seals (SCEA)

Can anyone confirm that Super Dragon Ball Z is GH?

I read in this months OPM (in their 130 upcoming games feature) that they listed it and said it was going GH.

Just wondering if anyone had seen it or could confirm it.

No it was my mistake.

What I meant was Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi (there's too darn many of 'em IMO...) =P

That's the one I need confimation on, they said it was suppose to be released sometime this month. Thanks. :)

Ok I'll put Soul Calibur 3 on my internal list and then update the main list in a few weeks.

Seems to be some new games being added sporadically here lately. Kinda wanna wait until all is said and done for the time being.

Since I forgot to post these I saw them at the local Walmart last time I was in, these are new additions too.

I read at another board that WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2006 is now a Greatest Hit, which makes sense since they usually make the previous entry a GH about a month before the next one hits stores.

Thanks for the confirmation on the WWE game, and I'll add RE4 to the list.

I'll update it probably in the next week or so.

I'm probably going to add DMC 5th anniversary collection to the list as well unless someone has a issue with that. I've seen it both ways as a GH version (as EBGames.com sells it as) and regular version non-GH version games. Anyway I'd thought I'd put the heads up out there, in any event.

Keep 'em coming. :)

Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones is GH. I got a PSU pamphlet in the mail and it pictured it.
Saw it with the printed GH banner cover at BB.

Okay, thanks guys, I've added it to the list already and I should be able to update it and send it to you later, Trakan.

It's in need of an update. Thanks for the heads up. :)

Ok here's the updated list it needed an update after 4 months.

First off, Merry Christmas to everyone and I really appreciate all the help here on this thread, I don't mind maintaining it for everyone so just to let you know without you guys (and gals) helping out with giving me the heads up I wouldn't be able to do this, so for that let me say thankyou.

I'll keep this list going until they quit putting them on the GH list, I might maintain a PS3 list in the future if I feel the need to do so, we'll see.

Again thanks for all the hard work and dedication you guys do to help me out. I do it for you and I hope you appreciate it. :)

Could someone update the wiki with the newest list?

If you don't have a wiki account, you can PM CheapyD to get one.

Starky thanks for the heads up, I tried posting a few days ago and the site went down or something, so I couldn't reply.

Anyway it's been added to my internal list, I'll update it again when there is enough to update the main list on here.

radjago, I would have no idea for you to ask to do that. One I didn't know it existed. Two, I would rather it be kept in here, because since I maintain it, I would like some semblence of control over it (and a little acknowledgement for my work) or at least to let people know there is someone to let know what they've seen. And I can't do that there.

Lastly, within a year or so this list will be complete anyway (not sure if I'll maintain the PS3 one or not) and also is it that much of a bother to link to this page and see what's been added every once in a great while?

Just what I think about the issues raised, feel free to PM cheapy or any of the staff and ask about it, it's not something I'm going to bother myself with personally.

Does anyone know if the Godfather will be hitting the greatest hits list anytime soon? I want to buy it, but not at full price, I think it's been out almost a year now.

No idea. Then again I didn't think Black would be one either, and my EA bias won't let me care much if it does or not.

If it sold well (and isn't still selling hot, which is a big factor, they aren't going to discount something that still sells well) then approx. after a year they'll GH it.

There have been a ton coming out on the list I've been shocked to see even on there (Shadow the Hedgehog comes to mind)

Just have to wait is all I can suggest, nobody here knows what's coming up next, all I can suggest is to keep checking the gaming press, Playstation.com's list and any place that has news posts on new GH games (which trust me aren't that many, sadly enough)

Sorry couldn't be more helpful, but that's all I know, one way or another.
