My friend has a 9600GT and it's pretty decent. He just plays WoW though, and it's more than enough for that game. Benchmarks put it slightly behind an 8800GT, 15% or so at most, around 8% or so for everything else.

Avoid AA and super high resolutions and it should be decent.

That makes this HP laptop seem pretty awesome then, considering my 7900GS is light years behind the 8800.

Is the 1680 resolution necessary on those? I need a good coupon to come around.

Comes out to like 1050. I didn't think the infinity glass thing was worth 50 bucks, and I'll put my own 500 gb hard drive in for much cheaper than theres.

I've been using my DV5 for a couple days and love it. The keyboard feels so much better than the Dells, Toshibas, and older HPs I've used. The infinity display is very very glossy and its pretty much exactly like the new Macbook screens. Stick with 1gb of RAM and upgrade to 4 on your own. Just get a copy of 64 bit Vista somehow. It runs like butter on 4gig.

I plan on keeping desktop. I'm getting the laptop so I'll always have something that works. After I get it I'll start doing some fun shit with my desktop.

I used to have a 1440x900 monitor, and games looked great at that resolution. 1680x1050 is really nice, but on a monitor that small, it's not that noticeable. Blurays, if you play them, will be downconverted, though they'll still look fine.

With my 21.6" monitor @ 1680x1050, Fonts are easily readable, but are a little small. On a 15.4" screen at that resolution, I'd need glasses for sure. Or bigger fonts.

Yeah, upgradeable for sure. Mobile processors are more expensive though. From looking at HP's site and service manual, it should be able to take any Socket P Core 2 Duo processor just fine.

The ones listed on their site are the T5800, T5900, P7350, P8400, P8600, T9400, and T9600 for the custom builder.

Also, look at the service manual before you even think about trying it.

I agree with this. It's hard to really screw it up, but I'm experienced. I can see somebody just fucking it up completely. And a warranty is a good thing not to void.

Oblivion is the only game to ever put me to sleep. I can't stand it. Fallout is awesome. The interface is very similar, but that is where it pretty much ends in similarity.

Skipping Resistance 2 here. I liked the 5 minutes I spent with the beta, but it was just too unoriginal to make it worth a purchase. Plus, it was way to easy to rape using a sniper.

This. And with my army of controllers and adapters, plus GFW and tons of console ports, I can play them how I want. Games are better looking and running, cheaper, and more flexible.

For example, I played DMC4 PC with a Dual Shock 2. That way, I could have the top buttons all be buttons, and not shitty 360 bumpers or triggers. Makes doing the L2 charge with Nero's moves a lot easier, especially the instant level 3 charge.

Mods are really nice too. :)

Resistance 2 is pretty meh, just like the first one.

Dead Space took me about 8-12 hours for the playthrough. I highly recommend it.

I hear Fable 2's main quest is about 12 hours. The side activities would make it longer, though.

I figured out how to change resolution and stuff, but that menu is in russian, so I can't read anything. I can't find the option to set it to 1440x900, 1280xsomething is as high as it goes. Gotta figure out a way to patch that to the english version I guess.

It is the quest you get from Moira at the supply shop in Megaton, I guess if you blew it up then you couldn't finish it. One of those the tasks is using this experimental mole rat deterrent which is on a stick and you have to smack so many of them with it.

Mirror's Edge demo = perfect. The game feels great; DICE really knows their stuff.

And just fyi, if you have Marble Blast Ultra, there's free DLC on XBLM (new level, new marble, and new achievement). The new cheesemint is pretty easy, so go get it!

Played a shit load of fallout 3 today. Sadly, that's all I did. I hate staying in on staurday's, but I didn't feel very good.

Great game. Just replaced the satellite dish and am on the way to rivet city. I'm playing on very easy. Makes the game more fun imo.

I have 5 main Quest Missions left. It is one of the best games this year. I so far like Fable II more than this, just because I never got lost and actually cared about the characters. The story is good, but I enjoyed Fable II's more. The Survival Edition of Fallout 3 is way better than the LE of Fable II. Super stoked about Gears. Today was filled with Fallout 3, Juno and about to watch Transformers on Blu.

For what it's worth, I loved that Mirror's Edge demo. I was looking forward to it for a long time but was getting discouraged by the lack of love in other threads. But playing that demo has me convinced that it's gonna be awesome. I just wish there was some kind of goal marker above the point they want you to get to. Pressing the b button to look at your goal doesn't work .. especially when you're trying to move as fast as you can and do all sorts of crazy jumps and slides.

I enjoyed it too, what I like most is the freedom of movement that you have, from the first person perspective; normall a game like this would have to have a 3rd person perspective. I wish Atlus could get a hold of this game's engine and use it for a new Maken X title.

Although I don't think this will be in the game, but I wish that you could view replays of the missions you complete where you can see all the jumps and moves you made in one video, from a distance.

Fallout 3 was awesome. The last 4 missions are really short. The ending was good. I am going to come back to it and do more side quests. I want to unlock the best ending I can. I finished with 360 G.NE.R.D.points, so there is tons left to do. I wanted to finish the game before it got spoiled for me and before Gears 2 comes out this Friday. I could see in the ending where my choices effected the cut scene. It was cool. It is right up there with Fable II for best game of 2008.

if you plan on maxing out your games, you'll be lucky to get that long. Batteries just aren't meant to power a modern gpu + dual core processor + 4gb ram all being pushed to their limit. If 2.5 hours is the manufacturer's estimation, then it's 2.5 with just basic windows running + wifi, maybe.

Looks like a decent portable desktop replacement system. just be wary of putting it on anything other than a hard surface...that kind of hardware will overheat in a minute.

Don't put it on your lap or bed...it'll overheat in about a half hour or less. These kinds of laptops sound great, like you'll be able to play Crysis in bed, but they're portable desktop replacements...you can't use them like a macbook or something comparable.

I think I'm going to a midnight Launch of Gears Of War 2. Then I get to go to school, then go to work till 10:30, then play till really late, then go to work at 2 o'clock the next day.

Fable II can be beaten in 20 hours or less if you are speeding through it. I don't know who told you that you have to collect a bunch of things and kill a bunch a creatures. I mean yeah, you run into a bunch of baddies, but what action RPG doesn't? Also, Fallout 3 has some fetch questing in it. But it isn't bad. Both should not be missed.

That last MGS4 cutscene was such a cop out and such a clear example of kojima's biggest flaw, his inability to leave the audience with any sense of mystery. When every stone is overturned and every last thing given some hokey, contrived explanation, you lose interest quickly.

Been real busy lately. Not much gaming going on. Assassin's Creed is still fun, but the repitition is starting to set it. I'm about halfway thru P3 FES: Answer, and about a third thru Castlevania OoE.

With that same person, I couldn't play the CoD beta with either, unless I joined him when he was already playing, but we couldn't party up.

But we tried two other games and they worked fine.

I loved MGS3, especially the ending. I loved MGS4 as well, and I'd like to go back and play it, but I don't want to sit through the installs again just to get to another chapter. The ending of MGS4 was done very well in my opinion. But even witht he installation flaw, the gameplay was superb, I wasn't disappointed with the story, and gameplay at all.

The problem with MGS4 is that only about 25% of it actual metal gear stealth gameplay. There are like 5 actual sneaking maps...then the rest is run n' gun + mech action + shitty cut scene. Adding more to the ending would be a serious slap in the face--it was already an hour long and fairly bitter affair after getting cheated in Chapters 3,4, and 5.

They need to get back to the basics. MGS3 is the highpoint of stealth games, but the few sneaking maps in MGS4 are fucking amazing.

Good comments that make me feel better about my purchase from someone who 1100/1100 the 360 version and "platinum-ed" the PS3 version.

Probably the most major differences that I saw are
-Survivor Mode: best mode ever. All Bioshock fans need to experience this. Way better AI, much more interesting and strategic resource management and gameplay.
-Improved audio quality
-New, sexy interactive loading screen
-Slightly better lighting effects, and overall the game looks a little better. Neptune's Bounty and Point Prometheus in particular looked a lot better. Hepheaestus and Arcadia looked a little bit worse. All other levels looked about the same or slightly better on PS3.
-The DLC tonics and plasmids are more smoothly integrated into this version of the game.
-The intro and ending movies have been up-rezzed and look better.

I haven't noticed any frame rate issues but the texture pop-in does seem to be slightly worse than the 360 version. Overall, I would say it will be the definitive version of Bioshock, especially once the DLC comes out. I think it is an awesome purchase for people who haven't played the 360 version and is still a great purchase even for those who have.

It is most likely a NAT issue caused by these friends routers. I know that I have a router that has this same problem. I can't play games at all with Maklershed and a few other people. I also have an extremely hard time finding games if I am the party leader, but if someone else is, then games are found with no problem.

They could possibly fix this by giving their PS3 a static IP address and forwarding some ports.

I think every MGS was an improvement in the series. MGS3 and MGS4 were very close, however MGS4 vastly superior controls really locked it in as my favorite game in the series. MGS3 was cool, but the awkward controls made it feel clumsy at some points.

This has nothing to do with platforms and everything to do with how much that series has fallen and how self-indulgent kojima has become. I can't believe how deluded people are to that game's flaws, just because it's Metal Gear, just because it's a PS3 cornerstone title.

You know, I totally agree with this too. It became way too much of a janky shooter shoehorned into an AMAZING stealth game engine. The fact that the last half of the game is barely playable is another huge annoyance. Kojima can create these impressive scenes, but won't ever let you play them? The frist couple chapters have some really impressive, memorable moments, and some great stealth sections, but it just falls apart too quickly to even consider it for GOTY material.

I suppose Ninja Dog is now a big fanboy too, because he doesn't get on his knees for Metal Gear Solid and Kojima too, right?
