I thought that Wet was pretty cool and could be some mindless fun for a boring summer day.

Maybe I can grab it on Black Friday? I remember reading that it will not release at full price.

nice!

Rock Band LEGO weill be able to export tracks to RB2 :)

time to throw it on my gamefly que and get a larger HDD.

I suspect they're smart enough to do it the same way they did the AC/DC disc.

Unless the "track pack" discs let you import from the disc, no fee, no code. Could be wrong.

RelentlessRolento

It sounds like the Rock Band Lego thing will be like the RB1 -> RB2 port. Pay a small fee then transfer. If it's $5 for the fee, it's worth it alone for the Queen songs.

Thanks for the help, guys.

I think I'm just going to stick with component. I switch inputs to avoid Image Retension on my plasma when I step away from the 360 for a bit or whatever and having it restart when switching inputs just wouldn't work. HDMI probably is a little better but I miss real surround sound, and a new reciever isn't in the budget. I just got this one earlier this year.

Well, that too. If my gf is in the room I'll usually leave it on over-air. I do switch off my power strip at night and when I'm at work to save power. I hear those can eat up like $140 a year on your utility bill.

Yeah you can go back through Arkham when you've finished the story and pick up things you missed, it's empty so that makes things a bit easier I guess.

I don't believe anything would carry over to a new save on hard, not Riddler challanges nor upgrades.

Stupid Champions Online. They nerfed all the XP/powers as soon as it officially launched yesterday--a big "fuck you" to anyone who had the early start/pre-order weekend. I almost felt sorry for the folks who did the lifetime subscription purchase. I think they rolled back though--they did an emergency maintenance last night but I haven't had a chance to find out what they did. Funny to read the huge crush of complaints that came though.

Anyway, Champions is the only reason I'm not playing Batman AA right now. :p

Edit: Hm, after re-examining things, it looks like they did not roll anything back. It does appear like many of us playing CO aren't playing their classes to the best potential, though. I have to recant my statement, but I do still think there's something wrong when the MOB fodder (called "henchmen" in the game) can take out your supposedly "super" Superhero. Cryptic did a really poor job explaining the leveling, talents, and powers and what everything does in the game so no one really knows what they're doing.

This. x100.

Although I have really enjoyed the Transformers:RotF and Wolverine tie-ins, They would have been 100x better if they didn't have to confine themselves to the admittedly crappy story of the movies.

I really hope Iron Man 2 does completely suck (the first one had some good ideas, but kinda failed in the execution) since Matt Fraction is writing the story.

BAA controls were fine. Combat is smooth and simple. But I have to be honest that the stealth felt a little clunky. But it's acceptable since this game isn't strictly about stealth.

Chibi_Kaji
09-02-2009, 08:39 PM

Call of Duty IV and Tales of Vesperia have tight, responsive controls. Batman Arkham Asylum and Ghostbusters have floaty, bad controls. The camera in Batman is also out of this world, it makes Kingdom Hearts' look great. Even Prince of Persia (a notoriously floaty series) controls better than Batman. The frequent slow motion cuts are really bad too. It's not a big deal since I've only downloaded the demo, but everyone I talk to tells me it's great.

Chibi_Kaji

I rarely ran into camera problems with the game. Once or twice I was hit with a brick or shot from off screen(But thats more my fault since I knew a few were off screen but chose to ignore them). And the Slow-motion cuts were fine since they singled the end of the fight. And once again the controls worked great. I really don't see the "floaty" controls you are talking about.

Yep. the CoD1 bonus really has me tempted.

Activision has really done some neat stuff to tempt the hard of heart and strong of will (which, in gaming terms, pretty much means nofuckingbody at all because I've never met a gamer with any ethical standards whatsoever) to bring people to buy their products this year. The GH5/GHVH deal was impressive, and the MW2 "medium-sized" bundle (I can't be arsed to remember the names of each edition - I'm talking about the one with CoD1 but not the fucking night vision) is impressive too.

I can't believe how expensive movie theater tickets/food is these days.

I've only been to a non-dollar movie theater 3 times in the past 2 years so I'm always shocked when I see the prices. I'm pissed that I spent $30 bucks on two ticket, 1 med drink, 1 med popcorn.

The couple in front of me got popcorn, drinks, candy AND nachos. I don't want to even think about how much he spent.

Inglourious Bastards was excellent though.

No more wide-release movie trips for me unless it's Pixar.

Ticket prices have went up, but I don't mind $10-11 for a good film. I try to do matinees when I can to save a few bucks. But I'm a big movie lover, so I'm kind of stuck. Much bigger hobby for me than games.

I never get any food or drinks though. I can make it through a movie without eating, and drinking just leads to needing a bathroom break. So no since in paying those absurd prices.

When I went to see District 9, two large drinks and 2 medium popcorns......$24

I was not shocked but it reminded me why I usually sneak stuff in.

I'm a film lover too, but I really just prefer seeing it at home now since I have a decent setup and it usually looks better than in the theater. (i prefer fine detail vs huge fuzzy screen) Few of the movies I want to watch end up on the premium 4K digital screens.

I only went to see Up in a theater because I had to see it in 3D.

Matinee is definitely a lot cheaper, and there are still some places here that'll do it for $5.00.
Also, I'll be sneaking in food and drinks again. It was too last minute to do it last night.

I have a decent set up too, but still just can't beat the experience of seeing a good film on the big screen at a nice theater IMO. Quality varies a lot theater to theater. I was amazed with the picture at the theater where I saw Inglourious Basterds, it really looked like a huge HD screen and had none of the film grain, scratches and dirt on the print etc. that you sometimes get. But even if it has some flaws, the size matters a lot to me. Same with TV shopping I'll always prioritize size over picture quality when trying to get the most bang for my buck since I'm not a videophile at all.

I'll wait for stuff like comedies to Netflix since the big screen doesn't help much there--other than the crowd experience of having a 100+ people to laugh along with.

But anything with good cinematography, special effects, etc. I still catch on the big screen.

I don't get putting them on a game disc by themselves. Maybe I just live in an area that's not representative of the rest of the country but I don't know a single person that likes Van Halen or has any of their cds/dls. I don't think I even have a friend that could name one of their songs other than maybe Girls, Girls, Girls.
Because that's their philosophy for GH games. They're starting to turn it around with importing, despite the poor start to that process.

It's $7.50 here to see a movie at night, which isn't bad. I did love going to see movies for $0.50 at the dollar theater, as the matinee started an hour after I got out of school and most of the movies were only a month or so old.

Yeah, I used to be much the same way. Being older and busier I have to be more picky about what I see due to time constraints.

But I just love going to the theater. I don't begrudge those who prefer watching at home....means less people rattling popcorn, slurping drinks, texting etc. in the theater! :D

But thankfully I'm not too sensitive to distractions, so I don't get annoyed very often. Going to weekday matinees or the first showings on Saturday or Sunday morning helps as well.

Yeah, kids movies you're out of luck as lots of parents do take their kids to early showings. Those you're probably better off with one of the lastest showings a couple weeks after release.

R-rated movies tend to be empty in the matinees on weekdays and weekend as the 17+ crowd is at school/work on the weekdays, and hung over/tired from social outings Friday/Saturday night to make the 10-11 am Sat/Sun showings most of the time.

Just seems strange to me. I haven't been to a GS in over 12 months, but the PSP section has always been scant and disorganized at best. Nah myke.

The GO isn't being made to replace the 3000 model. In fact there's another UMD model coming (4000) that probably has a few of the GO features like Bluetooth.

It's just there for the savvy consumer that doesn't want to be tied down with physical media, and wants a more portable solution than the current sized PSP.

I'd love one because of it's size, but switching over to pure DD will be hard for me.

EDIT: If it's ever hackable, and I can rip my UMDs with my 1000 model and put them on the GO. I'll buy it.

It wasn't working well for Sega. Sony has a ways to go before reaching that level of absurdity but the fact that they're releasing a PSP 3000 bundle with Gran Turismo right after the PSP Go launch (as opposed to doing the European DD-version of GT with the Go) seems to point to a certain lack of confidence in the Go at least in the US.

Wow, I actually started those lists to be at least a little facetious but if you look at the official start/end dates for each of those consoles, you literally could buy them at the same time. Some might've been tough to find (I remember seeing the CDX in stores exactly once) but damn that's some kind of ambition.

PSPGo is mostly the same functionality as the current PSP, just in a slightly different package. You might as well ask why Nintendo decided to sell a DSi along side the DS as the business behind doing it is similar. Also, unlike Sega, Sony is sticking behind PS3 and the general PSP design/software. Thanks to BluRay winning the HD format war, you're not going to see a PS4 any time soon, much less a PS3 add-on with enhanced/different technology).

Sony is aware of the existing player base for PSP1000-3000 as well as their retail distribution channels and are not going to undermine that by making only PSPGo digital distribution in the near future. Could PSP2 be online only with just download codes in cases or PSN cards at some point? I'm going to guess, most likely...

That's just great for Sega fans like you and I, but, as you said, it was terrible in the long run for Sega and killed consumer confidence, and I can see the same thing happening to Sony. Not to the extent of Sega's situation, but this seeming lack of faith in their product can't be good for the company.

The jury is still out on this, of course, but we'll really know for certain if, say, six months after the Go is released, the PSP section grows even smaller than it already is. Pure DD is a total deal breaker for me. Games are just disposable entertainment to me. I seldom buy any, just get most off of Goozex, see the credits roll and throw them back on there. I have no interested in collecting them and keeping them around as I'll never touch them again.

So pure DD just doesn't work as I don't enjoy gaming enough to spend money I can't get a large part of back.

Maybe if full fledged games were $5-10 (and not just shorter/simpler games like XBLA titles) I could deal with it. I don't have a problem with dropping $5-10 on an e-book for my Kindle that I'll only read once. That's pocket change as I kind of view it like buying a movie ticket.

But when you're talking paying pretty much the same prices as disc based games for a full fledged download, no way, Jose.

Since you're the only person I've heard of buying a Kindle, let me ask you: why the hell would you want to read a book on a screen?

You can usually get whatever paperback suits your fancy for $5-10 on Amazon.

1. I seldom ever re-read a book, so I hate buying a book and having it waste space in my house when I'm probably never going to touch it again. I've been trying to pare down my belongings a lot in recent years, and have been pretty successful. I hated having a bunch of junk I was never going to touch again laying around and cluttering up my condo. Moving 600+ miles over the summer was a big incentive to pare down as well.

I also hated hassling with the library, and dealing with donating or selling books after I read. So e-books are just more more convenient for me as I don't have a physical item to deal with, or due dates and limited selection at the library etc.

2. The Kindle screen is just as easy on the eyes as paper. No backlighting etc. with e-ink, so you don't get eye strain like with an LCD screen. So reading on a screen isn't a negative on an e-ink device IMO.

3. And I find it more comfortable to hold and read on than a real book. Thick books are a pain when you're near the beginning or end. Especially paperbacks.

4. Convenience. Great to be able to buy a book and start reading instantly. Also love that you can get samples of the first couple of chapters of pretty much every book in the kindle store. I hear about a book that interests me, I go to Amazon.com and send a sample to my Kindle, and it's there for me to check out when I get around to it.

5. Price. New releases are mostly $9.99, so I don't have to wait a year or so for the paperback to come out to get the book for a decent price since hardbacks are so expensive.

6. Ease for travel. Great to be able to take tons of books everywhere you go in something about the size and weight of 1 paperback.

Anyhow, I love it. One of the best gadgets I've ever bought, and I've read a lot more since getting it due to the convenience factor.

I'm that way with music and movies. I still buy CDs even though I do most listening on MP3s ripped from them these days, and have little interest in buying digital movies. I just like having the physical copies.

The basic technology and software for PSP and PSPGo is the same, it's just the method of software delivery. They'll have UMD versions of PSP games, particularly 3rd party ones, all the way up until they decide to release PSP2. If DD, does well enough, they may abandon the physical media system for handhelds entirely. If PSPGo fails, then they didn't bet the farm on a new platform, as I can't imagine it costs that much more to make the thing. This to me, is different from Sega's hardware strategy back in the day.

DD in retail is very much possible as evidenced by the point cards, and DLC boxed editions with codes inside.

He's just saying Go won't sell in the belief that most people don't want digital only. I think it's just inevitable. While I can't predict what will happen with Go, I hate to see the loss of physical media that I can't trade or sell, and I'm hoping enough people will continue to feel that way where the option will always be available. However, every media device is going in this direction whether we like it or not.

Sony has wisely chosen to hold on to their existing platforms for as long as possible before introducing too many new technologies, so I'm not surprised that they're continuing to revamp the PSP after Go. 4000 is going to be another iteration of lighter, faster, better without making dramatic changes to the underlying tech, and if Go succeeds, that will likely get revisions too until PSP2.

Media devices will be around for a long time if for no other reason that broadband coverage is still so poor in the US, especially in rural areas. There will have to be physical media for a long time to come are large areas of the country will be left out of the market.

gunm
09-04-2009, 03:23 PM
Broadband coverage limitations don't appear to be slowing the push towards DD. Regardless of what happens to physical media, it's only going to get more prevalent as networks improve, storage gets bigger, and the market for convergence devices (set top boxes, cell phones) expands.

dmaul1114
09-04-2009, 03:30 PM
DD will keep growing, but most things are still going to come out on physical media as well. Too much lost money otherwise.

DD only titles will be limited mainly to niche games, shorter games (XBLA etc.) and DLC for a good while I expect.

But like I said, it's a deal breaker for me with games, movies and music as I want physical media. Especially games as my interest is so down in them anyway. I'd probably say there's a 30% or less chance of me buying a console after the 360 anyway.

I still need to buy 'Splosion Man.

I been meaning to ask this, but how do you all feel about compilation disks and multi-pack games? You know, like the Upcoming QUBED game which is basically Lumines LIVE!(and all DLC),Rez HD and E4.

Or like a pack like the Hitman,DMC and Metroid multigame bundle. It got me thinking the other day when I got the Hitman pack and Brothers In Arms : Double Time. The Metroid Prime Trilogy is another prime example.

Personally, I wish we would see more of these. I would love to see PGR and Silent Hill get a bundle pack.

I think everyone here would be in favor of them as they tend to be a damn good deal for getting a few games bundled together--especially if you wait for deals on the set. And this is CAG after all.

gunm

PSN is offering bundles, but they aren't cheap. Companies seem to think people will pay a premium for the "speed" and "convenience" of downloading the game.

Retail bundles aren't any better--the Fallout and GTAIV DLCs for example are pretty much the same price as getting the game online...plus tax.

SFIV - No need to explain myself

MvC2 - I got it but still havent played it enough to be "fullfilled"... plus I'm having more fun with it now than i did when it released on DC

MGS1 - I got this off PSN as soon as it released and got up to the revolver fight, and got distracted after that. Goign to run through it again...

Flower Sun and Rain - fuck... i only played this for a few hours after I got it and havent been able to commit time to it. finally I can.

once I'm done with that I'll prob hop back onto gamefly.

I don't know why, but for some reason I feel cleansed playing this game. I guess that's because the last PS3 game I've been playing was Bionic Commando. And you know what? I can go back to any chapter in this game and replay them to get collectibles without penalty. Like all good games do.

RE5 is pretty good, not as good as RE4, but still solid. I'm replaying it currently, just playing on easy solo to experience the graphics on the full screen since I played through the first time in the crappily done local split screen on normal. I hated how they didn't use the full half screens like Gears. Made everything small, even on a 50" TV.

Got infinite ammo for the shotgun last night, so the rest of the game should really be a breeze. Will probably throw it on goozex to get some more points for Blu-rays once I beat it again though.

KingBroly

Played some more Mirror's Edge. And now...the frustration sets in. And I've only completed Chapter 1 -_-' I mean...can I have some more hint as to where I'm supposed to go? Please? Red Paintings would be nice to say 'go this way' and the circle button doesn't help at all. I'm playing it on Easy, so I think they would've given me a few more indicators as to where I'm supposed to go. It's not too much to ask, is it?

JSP, you can get a GH2 Xplorer for dirt cheap usually... CC had them for $10 multiple times in the past before their bankruptcy. It's now my main guitar... you can probably find a GH3 les paul for dirt cheap somewhere, but my luck with those has been iffy.

The Les Paul is pretty iffy, but there are tips and tricks for making it more reliable. I put a few pieces of eletrical tape into the locking mechanism for the neck so it wouldn't jiggle which fixed frets not reading entirely. Star power is still questionable but it's much more reliable when I store the guitar flat instead of on a stand.

It's traditional MMO, but certain powers have meters that can be charged for extra damage or longer damage over time and require holding down the mouse button or releasing the button at a certain time. Blocking is also done manually and is a big part of strategy, too. If you've played COH, it's similar, but they've done an even better job with the graphics, and the general "feel" of the powers. I'm liking it so far, though it seems it's having the usual MMO startup growing pains and MMO player whining.

Yeah, I made the the S&W M29 the second one I got Infinite Ammo for and finished off my play through last night. If I decide to run through it again I'll probably go for the M500 next as it has a good bit more power (5000 max vs. 3200 on the M29). But it's like 20,000 points to get infinite--I have it mostly fully upgraded.

But there's not really anything else I care to unlock. Only thing I used besides the shotgun and Magnum was the Rifle which I have fully upgraded. But I always have plenty of ammo for it anyway.

I may give it a shot, since you still get achievements with the infinite ammo on. Veteran shouldn't be too bad with already having infinite ammo on a shotgun and magnum.

*Awaits the flood of invites from Mak to play the game I don't own*

A guitar controller with a broken whammy bar is the saddest thing that could happen to it.

So you were close. The correct answer was "I trust the opinion of people I don't know a lot more than the people I don't know in this thread. This game does nothing new, but that's OK because it's not a Sony exclusive."
It's just "ok" cause it is Multiplatform - it would be "fantastic" if it was 360 exclusive and "terrible" if it was PS3 exclusive.

Well, we all know the Activision CEO had his finger on the button just waiting to make the biggest game of the year a console exclusive, costing his company hundreds of millions of dollars.

I finally picked up Batman today. The last part of the demo is the exact same place where I started to enjoy this game. It's just a taste of how badass you can be as Batman (I'm guessing). I have a miniscule amount of the Riddler Challenges done (Like...9 so far). I don't know if I can come back to them or not over the course of the game (Do enemies respawn? I hope so, or I might never get them all).

Also picked up Infamous, but I haven't popped it in yet. I kind of want to beat Mirror's Edge first.

Started playing Infamous again. Man, that game does NOTHING for me. I'm trading it for DBZ: Burst Limit, Viking and Eternal Sonata (I've been dying to play it again), which is pretty awesome (for me, anyway).

I'm starting to write some articles on great movies, and some reviews for newer movies, and possibly get some published somewhere. But my future aspiration is a film critic, and I haven't written anything in a while.

MW2, :ps3: or :360:? Friends on both systems and I'm definitely not getting both

I pre-ordered the 360 version.

I'm getting it for both. 8-)
