I had I believe 5 PS2s get DREs by the end of its life cycle. That sucked bad and was quite random.

DREs on the PS2 would definitely suck, though it actually happened to me on my 360, and that brought me to be on my third 360. I used my BB warranty on the first one, because the power brick made a really, really annoying high-pitched squealing noise (sorta like Rei's wife), and it eventually started smelling like something was burning. So... that could've been bad. Probably was best to get rid of that one.

On the bright side, I luvz me some Gears 2. The single player was really pretty awesome.

Alright, now back to Xenogears for real. 20...21 hours in in like 3 days or something. Totally worth playing through a second time.

Though I still need to play my copy of Vagrant Story for the first time, because I'm stupid and a lamebot. Square should really just release an anthology of all of their good PS1 games. I guarantee you it'll be better than anything they ever make now.

P2 definitely does start slow. I had a really tough time convincing myself to get through the high school at the very beginning. Though, part of that was because I didn't realize that you could actually change your commands, so my dudez were just attacking every turn.

It gets dramatically better after an hour or two.

I just saw Gamespot's yesterday and checked Gamerankings today. So, I dunno if they're new or not. A 66% average is so shitty. And it really is kinda sad given how dominant Square used to be. I blame it on Enix and Tri-Ace.

Also disappointed that the new Tomb Raider didn't live up to the Legend (har har!) I'm tempted to play Legend again to see if it holds up... I'm thinking it will. I remember it being pretty damn great.

Played a ton of BK thanks to it being up early from the link. Never got to play much of the game way back on the N64 but wow is it fun. Looks great and runs great most of the time save for a little laggy when a lot of things happen on screen.

Final Fantasy Legend is just really old school , like Dragon Quest. It hasn't aged all that well though. Legends 2 and 3 are pretty good. Still need to get Legends 3 for my collection.

I just get kinda bummed out about all the shit that the saga series takes. Sure it's not the greatest rpg series out their , but it's very "innovative" and "experimental". Sometimes in not so good ways though.:-# I'm also kinda upset at the fact the squeenix will most likely never release the SNES saga games over here.

I will admit that most of the games have a high learning curve , but most of them also fall into the catagory of you get out of it how much you put into it. You can keep the games simple with fighters where you just buy equipment and stats for them and just beat the crap out of enemies. Or you can try monsters and mages , which take more care and development.

Then again I also like shmups and "roguelikes" , so maybe I just have a thing for games that punish the player.

Started Time Hollow, really like it so far.

I think the Personas break a cardinal RPG rule: have at least one fight in the first half hour of play. P2 and P3 don't have one (I don't think P3 had one for 2 hours,) and the last RPG I can remember that broke the rule was DQVII.

Yeah , kartia ain't worth all that much. The 4 big atlus games on the PS1 that are worth a ton are Persona 1 and 2 , Ogre Battle and Tactics Ogre. The first and last one I really want.

Play Bully unless you're willing to invest some time in Okami and deal with it's unbelievably slow start. I'd say SR would be an okay option, but I really despise those games now.
Burnout Revenge is my choice, though I've not played TM:HO... the rest are not my thing.
Screw the rest, FFIV is one of the best RPGs of all time. Play it.

That's good to hear. How does it compare to the original Symphonia? I'll probably get ToS2 at some point, regardless, but I'm just curious.
Cons: Shorter, not nearly as deep in terms of character building (skills, cooking, artes/techs, etc), less varied progression due to limited cast members for 90% of the game.

Pros: Story is pretty comparable; better in some parts, not as good in others. Battle system is great (free roam from Abyss/Vesperia).

Obviously it's not as good as the original so the negatives outweigh the positives a bit, but I think in most cases if you enjoyed the first, you'd like this one. I left the monster collecting out of the points since it can be as integral to the game as you'd like it to be or not be (I collected a whole 18% of the possible monsters), and you probably already know if you love or hate that mechanic.

I'd like to start picking up the PS3 versions if they're the same or better because my 360 sounds like it could go again. It's not really noticeable but the drive seems to strain at times and I've had the damn thing freeze up half a dozen times in the last two months.

I'd just like to avoid any games that had bad ports like F.E.A.R. and the Orange Box.

PS3 Fallout 3 seemed to get shit on for graphics problems... it had something about locking the FPS and causing it to chug? I wish I could remember where I read that review. :\

My thing is that Mortal Kombat never really had a good guy. That was part of it's appeal. You had a cast of characters that was only trying to rip everyone apart in the most brutal way possible. You had soldiers, assassins, martial artists, and just general weirdos (Kano, I'm looking at you.) and that made it fun.

You could call Johnny Cage a good guy but it's not like any of us would want to sit down and have a beer with him, ya know.

in MK: Deception, Raiden dies and comes back to life within 30 seconds in the opening cinema. Pretty sure they have a crack writing team there at Midway.

To be fair, Captain Marvel is in the game, and he's technically dead in the DC Universe. I think they're just milking the comic book premise ;)

Hey Mak, you were right about First Spaceship on Venus, it was a weak episode. Not quite as bad as Hamlet IMO but it wasn't great. J&TB just didn't seem to be that into it. The host segments weren't great either.

Mostly played FEAR this weekend, I'll be finished it soon I reckon. Played the L4D demo with a mate from the UK. We both enjoyed it which is good seeing as I've bought him it for Chrimbo.

Used up my TRU $15 gift card on Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. Love them portable Castlevania games.

Dead Space is freaking awesome. Really high tension, good horror and shock value. It looks incredible too. I can't believe how good it looks sometimes.

Makes me wish there was a Metroid game running on this engine. If retro were able to make MP3 look so awesome just using their art talent on Wii, it blows my mind what they could do on 360-level hardware with a Dead Space type engine.

And Banjo-Kazooie (N64 one) is really fun too. I found myself playing like 6 hours of it this weekend. I never played it back on N64, but it's basically a Mario 64 game, but slightly more complicated/advanced.

Call me crazy, but I love the clean look of N64/Playstation generation games up-rezzed and cleaned up. Textures are still smeary but it's got charm.

So everyone loves Dead Space? I haven't played it, but a friend says "Dead Space is nothing but a fucking fetch quest and the scares are awful, and it's a rip off Event Horizon."

I was playing through it and it looks amazing. But I got a bit bored of it, it's a bit samey and all of the weapons feel the same.

The way it's structured does make it feel a bit "go to A then do B, oh no C has happened so now go to D and do E". I know a lot of games are basically like this but Dead Space really seems to emphasise it.

Yeah, you're basically running around the ship, fixing it. I think it's got good atmosphere and I'm enjoying it. $30 on BF is just right for it. The dismembering is fun, and the bosses have been pretty awesome. There's definetly tense moments, and you always feel like you're going to run out of ammo. The limited hud and viewpoint help with that too. I'm always wondering if I'm going to have any ammo left when I hit the reload button.

I got Dead Space, Fable 2 during the last B2G1 along with Saints Row 2 for PS3 for around $100. Sold the Saint's Row for $50. Paid $50 for Dead Space and Fable 2. That was flip credit, too.

Dead Space is ok....the beginning is hella boring...Dead Space is a good rental since its good through the first playthrough but after that its boring

I dunno about a rental. I am enjoying taking a slow, even pace with this game. I play a few hours every night, with the lights out and headphones on and I think the game would wear on me if I tried to play the whole thing in a couple days.

The training mode in it looks really good.
Complete with colored hit boxes.

The last Sonic game I bought was Sonic Adventure 2 on Dreamcast. That was the last time I felt like playing a 3D Sonic in any form.

Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 were good then , but only so-so now. Heroes wasn't too bad , but playing through basically the exact same game 4 times was kinda boring , but the "true" last boss was kinda cool. Shadow and Sonic 360 both sucked.
