The first section of the demo is so easy. I ran out of the first room, found a ladder, climbed up to the roof and found three grenades. You have your back to a wall and the guys come from in front of you, so you have a ton of time to reload or do whatever.. I never had to deal with the huge axe guy at all.

Gizmo's long gone, I probably used those bullets w/ lots of SMG Bursting.Fair enough for the 10mm, but what about the 100 free shells? It's hard to go through all that two rounds at a time.

Also just found that last night. I was overjoyed to find I could afford a combat shotgun, and crushed when I find that I don't have the strength to use it properly. Hopefully Tycho can put it to good use. It seems Katja can't use the deagle, I gave it to her and she just punched instead.Tycho can indeed use the combat shotgun quite well. Give Katja the 14mm you find in the Glow.

Since my strength is 4, is the Vibro-blade my best final weapon choice? From what I can see from CSmith's FAQ (http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/game/197289.html), there's nothing better that I'd be able to handle until I get that operation from wherever the doctor is. Just picked up a rope from Shady Sands, so I think I'll be hitting the Glow tonight.1: The armour you get from the Brotherhood boosts your strength quite a bit.
2: Make sure you have a RadAway and a couple of RadX's. And don't rest inside the Glow or read any books or anything like that.

For some reason I had in my head that I didn't need or want party members, which was the cause of many deaths. Not really sure how I ever came up with that. Killed 3 deathclaws! But boy does Katja die quick.Funny. Usually the deathclaws would just focus on Tycho or me. Never really had to worry much about Katja.

The RadX's are more important. Just slap one or two on the instant you reach the Glow. Don't worry about your NPCs - they're fine without 'em.

I do hate how Fallout 3 gives bad karma for stealing, even if you're not cought. The old games would give you a minor penalty for being cought, but zero penalty for getting away with it. Getting caught was more likely to cause an angry mob thirsting for your blood than anything. I always had a high steal skill in the old games for that reason.

Jack up your barter.
Collect mad amounts of cigarettes (packs/cartons). Also, fission batteries, conductors, and sensors. Repair things before you sell them. If you have the right attire, it'll also add to your barter. You can also get the scoundrel perk.
Collect all ammo, but specialize in few guns. Sell the rest of the ammo.
Loot everything at first. Even tin cans.

So I've been playing more of Castlevania: Order of Ecclessia, and I must say that it's really hard, but in a good way. It's sort of tedious in the sense that you have to grind a little bit, but it's sort of enjoyable. And even if you grind for 20-30 minutes to gain 2 levels, the fruits of your labor will more than likely still go unrewarded if you don't use the right glyph to attack. In this game, the power of your weapon doesn't mean jack.

I'm roughly 33% complete with it (in terms of areas visited, but you know Castlevania), and I've got to say it's really good. I guess it's the game that's hard but acceptable, like Mega Man 9. Whereas a game's difficulty determined by other factors (Sonic Unleashed's horrid camera or SSFIITHDR with 360's analog knub (yes, it's an analog knub, deal with it)) are not acceptable. It was made hard, and it works.

When engaging mutants, you'll probably want Tycho and Katja to keep a safe distance back from ya so as not to get hit by stray minigun fire/burned to a crisp/exploded. But hardened armour can take a couple shots from an RPG and keep on going, so you should be cool. Just keep going for the eyes and occasionally groin.

If your repair skill is high enough you can temporarily disable the yellow shields in the base, but either way, it's a pain in the ass to bring people through there.

I hesitate saying it's good.. Average at best. $20 or less if you have any interest at all.

Its saving bit is that the story and cutscenes are skippable and you don't even have to do much in the bs hub worlds.

The werehog is as bad as god of war. The quick time events are numerous and awful. Those are the two main problems. Worth $20.

Boss battles as sonic are the highlight so far.

Still having loads of fun playing Valkyria Chronicles. I have no idea how long the game is, but I'm just now in Chapter 13 and I've got about 22 hours in, so I'm just guessing I'm a little past halfway. I haven't lost a single unit so far (a few deaths, but I've always gotten a medic to them). The majority of battles I have won on the first or second try. Most of the time, I don't really even count the first try, cause I usually just start it to get a good layout of the battlefield so I'll know what units I need to bring when I reset it. That is one thing that kinda bothers me about the game, not getting much information about the battlefields before choosing which units you need to bring with you. I have a couple other minor complaints, but otherwise I'm really loving the game. Now I think I'm gonna grind on a few skirmishes before continuing the main story.

I really want to start up Fallout 3, but Persona 4 is coming out this week and that game will probably take over me.

just got back from punisher... being a long time reader of the Punisher Marvel Knights and Max comic books I don't think the movie was great overall, but it got the entire feel, setting, and characters right. I was superbly happy the violence was exactly like the Max series which IMHO is a must to stay true to Punisher.

Thank god for violence.

No more art crap after friday for me. I plan on (if I have it by then) finally playing Valkyrie Chronicles and Rock Band 2.

Yeah, it's overly gorey but exactly like the comic book in a good way. It's nice to see someones entire face get smashed in by a fist punch. The gore was essential.

Gosh, Mirror's Edge is a breeze when you can use weapons.
Finished it on Hard in one sitting. I think I died less than 5 times from enemies, and only a few times from missing a jump.

Mirror's Edge was good until it locked me into a room and made me play it's AWFUL combat. I had more fun with the Werehog sections of Sonic Unleashed than I did with mirror's edge's fucking combat.

Time Trial DLC looks to make it all better, just a shame you have to own the original game + pay more to get at it.

The ending is shit compared the first two Fallouts. Go youtube them, your choices throughout the game effected the ending and the explaination is epic. In fallout 3 it's based on poisoning the water supply or not, and if you sacrifice yourself or not. Weak.

Chun's instant reverse SBK is pretty good, it has to be low to the ground though.

Chun is a beast against shotos, esp once she meters out, that completely changes the matchup.

She can beat their SRK's with well timed/distanced ranged kicks and corner fireball traps dont work that well vs her.

Pretty much.

I was playing it without guns. It was frustrating as all fuck. I hated being locked in a room and required to fight. The game would have been about 100% improved if it had been designed so you could run away from any encounter, if you were smart enough. As it is, forcing the broken combat on you makes it easily comparable to some shit like Sonic Unleashed that forces the Werehog bits on you, which in my opinion, are equally as bad.

The only saving thing for Mirror's Edge was that it was shorter than Sonic. I played a bit of the time trial thing but the EA server login bullshit made me not care. It wasn't working when I did it, and I just played a few levels for a few extra achievements. The DLC does look nice. Should have kept that stuff on the disc. Or made it a free to download code in the box.

only thing you need to know is what systems have real backwards compatibility and which don't. the original 60gig is the best but if compatibility dosn't matter then get whatever flavor you want.

Not really. At least I can do a super move with a shoto.
I can play the others, like Vega and Guile, but it's absolutely aggravating to not have the game recognize the super charge move.

9/10 times I can do the move I'm looking to execute with a shoto using either the dpad or the analog.

I finally got my hands on Prince of Persia, and I'm enjoying it so far. I've really been delving into the anytime conversations with Elika, and I definitely like the backstory for each of the characters. To say there isn't a story, I guess you might be right. But it seems like they're building a very good foundation for background on characters.

Also, to say this game doesn't have Death is a 100% fallacy. When Elika saves you, that's a death. It just reloads you to the last checkpoint in 3-5 seconds, and is a lot better than Too Human's 'bring up to heaven' reload which takes 30 seconds every time.

I haven't gotten far enough to speak about this accurately, but to my understanding, I'll agree with you on it. Hell, there's an achievement for completing the gave having her save you less than 100 times -- so in that case, her saving you is like a death, at least in my eyes.

I bought about 20 of these fuckers when they were on clearance for $10 at wal-mart here and sold them for $20-30 apeice. The d-Pad isn't phenomenal, but it's at least as good as the Dreamcast/OG XBox one was.

I use this for SuperTurbo and have no problems with Chun-Li. Then again, she's a charge character.

Of the three hardware generations that Sony has participated in, they've had the highest failure rate in two of them.

On the other hand, Microsoft is certainly winning (losing?) the hardware failure rate this generation but the original Xbox was bulletproof compared to the PS2. Thus Microsoft has been plagued by hardware problems in one out of the two hardware generations they participated in.

Nah, I did that, and I'm in Little Lamplight. But I have no clue how to get into the vault. The arrow on the radar points to the gate down at the end (the one Princess is apparently guarding?) but all I find there is a pulley that I "can't use right now" or whatever.

you are completely forgetting DRE or the "not able to read blue disc of death." EBgames sold me like 6 DRE'd used PS2s--they used to not even power up the system before taking them, so everyone traded their dead systems in. The 7th one worked for 8 months, then they just gave me a new system because I had a receipt with 7 dead PS2s and the friends I was with were putting up a huge fuss about it to the clerk. :lol:

you are completely forgetting DRE or the "not able to read blue disc of death." EBgames sold me like 6 DRE'd used PS2s--they used to not even power up the system before taking them, so everyone traded their dead systems in. The 7th one worked for 8 months, then they just gave me a new system because I had a receipt with 7 dead PS2s and the friends I was with were putting up a huge fuss about it to the clerk. :lol:

I'm just going by generations here.

Of the three hardware generations that Sony has participated in, they've had the highest failure rate in two of them.

On the other hand, Microsoft is certainly winning (losing?) the hardware failure rate this generation but the original Xbox was bulletproof compared to the PS2. Thus Microsoft has been plagued by hardware problems in one out of the two hardware generations they participated in.

you used statistics. Sony had the highest failure rate in 66% of the gens it has participated in compared to only 50% for Microsoft. Thus, Sony has done worse.

but RRoD might have been a bigger travesty than PS1+PS2 combined, but the 3 year extended warranty really cleaned up their image, imo. Whereas Sony had a smaller repair extension for the PS2 and nothing for the PS1, iirc.

I like how they do jazzy and bossa nova stuff mixed with pop and some experimental electronic stylistic touches. Her voice is pretty soothing too. Only problem is almost all their music is in the same key.

I like chiptune to be pretty pure, with few outside instruments. Like I enjoyed that Random track you put up, but the electric guitar in this Anamanaguchi track is not doing it for me. (I'm totally buying or getting ahold that Random EP though, that was awesome.) and I'm listening to bitshifter right now and I'm liking it even more than Random. yay! thanks rr :)

Well I guarantee you won't find a working PS2 in 20 years. I still have a working NES (toaster style), as well as a discolored SNES that work perfectly fine...although I haven't used them in a few months.

My near launch PS2 still works fine, and it gets a lot of use.

My policy is that if a console is going to break, I'm not buying another one. You only get one chance with me. The only thing I've ever had break is the PS1 and from then on I was done with PS1 games until I got a PS2.

My original PSOne was a workhorse. I skipped the "fat" PS2 generation. Given the total output of PS2 consoles, I do wonder what kind of failure rate it really has (and yeah, I'm assuming all the numbers in the last few posts are not accurate simply because no one outside of Sony should/would know that info). :p

My PS2 completely stopped reading discs a few years after I got it (March 2001), so I opened her up and adjusted the laser spindle. It worked pretty well, but the next time I tried it, I accidentally snipped the tray open/close wire while putting it back together.

iirc, with the final form, you need to kill the appropriate orbs that can hurt your party, while using anti-agi,bufu, etc. skills and buffed elemental spells. anti-confusion helped too. The trick is to make it so at least one guy is immune to each attack so you always have a healer...but if you get unlucky, you'll only have one guy healing the whole time while stuck in a loop where you can't attack...

I got super frustrated with that fight, gave up for 6 months thinking I would need to grind more, then sat down and beat it in like 10 minutes :lol:

Sera's singing removes effects from 1 party member per turn, IIRC.

I have had 3 PS1s, first one stopped reading discs even when upside down, second one had the controller ports fry, 3rd one is still going, or at least it should be. I don't use it anymore.

Still rocking my December 2001 PS2. Got it the same day FFX came out. It had a DRE once, but I fixed it.

My Xbox I bought sometime in 2002 has a Thompson drive. Yeah, it sucks, and barely reads shit anymore.

I'm on my 3rd 360. RRoD on the first, DVD drive failure on the second.

My PS1 was a beast.
The first console I had that failed was my PS2, I bought it in October of 2001. The DVD laser died sometime in 2004. Sony fixed it free. It's worked fine since.
My PS3 was my other dead console. 10 months and bam, dead bluray controller -- it wouldn't read discs anymore period.

My experience with Sony Hardware:

Had a LAUNCH PS1 that lasted 5 years until I needed to do the upside down thing. I sold it in Gamestop in Summer of 2001.

I got my fat PS2 in Summer of 2001, and it stopped reading CDs in 2004. Sony fixed it for free though.

Didn't have a problem with that PS2, but I traded it in for a Slim PS2 4 years ago, and that thing has worked like a champ since.

I never had any problems with my PS1 or PS2. Got a PS1 for FFVII and a PS2 for FFX. I ditched the PS2 early this year, and the PS1 I probably kept around for 5 years or so.

I game a lot less than most around here, so I probably didn't have as much chance to wear either out as many of you guys. Even more so as I had an N64 and then a GC and X-box along with the Sony consoles so the limited play time was spread around.

I had one PS1 for four years I think, never any problems other than the decidedly uncommon freeze. We gave it away to orphans or something when we got the ps2.



My first ps2 lasted I think 2 years, then it stopped reading everything. I remember the last game working on it was Tekken 4, although it took like an hour just to get it to read the disk!

Second ps2 lasted me until...well basically now. I havent used it since I got my ps3 last year but it was definately working then.


Both were fatties btw. Seems I was pretty lucky.

On our second PS2 now, a Slim. The first one (the phat Gran Turismo 3 Racing Pack model) got a DRE and I decided to sell it on eBay instead of attempting a fix; this was in early 2007, so it had lasted me a good number of years (since 2001? 2002?).

I'm also on my second DS. Upgraded to a Lite from a Phat after the latter's touchscreen started to go. Again, sold the broken one on eBay; got more than I expected for it as well, but it was an uncommon color (Mario Kart Red) with most of the original packaging.

Oh, and I haven't played the GoW games, but my husband has, and I've watched him play through much of them. No point in me playing them now because of that. Besides, I'm not the biggest fan of QTEs :-P

The thing with the god of war games is that QTEs are a core element of gameplay, and a lot of the events are either (a) the same as pulling off a combo; that is, it's the same sequence everytime you initiate it (this is for the more basic enemies you can finish in this manner) or (b) checkpointed by a save point right before or by a loop contained in the middle of the sequence.

Where QTEs suck is in games that just randomly throw them in there for the hell of it. Like the two or three NO WARNING QTEs in Uncharted.

I can see that... but QTEs in GoW are a way of making the cinematic style of story telling interactive (for the large ones) and with the small ones, if you fail, it's not game over -- you don't have to use QTE on the minotaurs, for example, but it gets you better health/magic refills and kills them easier saving you life/magic in the process. Plus it looks flippin awesome. ;)

I actually like quick time events. Does anyone else flip their hand and start mashing with their index or middle fingers when it's just a simple mash circle until it's over type event? Back to QTEs: I just remembered the boss QTEs; had forgotten about the ones for regular enemies like the Minotaurs and Medusas. Yeah, I guess they're kind of neat. Don't you still get the button hints, though? Those could've been a lot more subtle; as they are, it kind of breaks the immersion.

On a related note, I believe QTEs helped inspire the Action Commands in Kingdom Hearts 2, which are fucking idiotic, and might be another reason why I don't like the entire concept :-P
