Cock. I have to beat Resistance today. I hate rushing through games, but theres 5 chapters left and P4 is on its way.

The game just took a turn for the frustrating, too. Complete waste of a theater-like room. It's a big circular room with low walls, but ducking behind the walls doesn't shield you from getting shot. Which means you can't enter the room until everything's dead anyway. Completely wasting the potential of an interesting section of the game. And not enough checkpoints. Insomniac is dumb.

They fix a lot of that dumb shit in R2. I hated the first Resistance but the sequel is tons of fun.

Using cover is still wonky, though.

iirc, with the final form, you need to kill the appropriate orbs that can hurt your party, while using anti-agi,bufu, etc. skills and buffed elemental spells. anti-confusion helped too. The trick is to make it so at least one guy is immune to each attack so you always have a healer...but if you get unlucky, you'll only have one guy healing the whole time while stuck in a loop where you can't attack...

I got super frustrated with that fight, gave up for 6 months thinking I would need to grind more, then sat down and beat it in like 10 minutes :lol:

I managed to get rid of all the orbs on my third attempt, but then after getting a few attacks in on her, I actually missed the replacement orb with two magic attacks in a row (which had never happened in 30 hours unless I was stunned or something). So instead of having zero orbs after that turn, she was back up to two. And then it went downhill from there as her Vanity attack threw everyone into confusion or charm.

I thought about grinding, but it really seems like some of these battles (especially those with status attacks) just come down to luck, so eventually I'll beat it.

I don't mind QTEs...well, except maybe the completely random, out-of-the-blue QTEs in Uncharted. "whew, that was an intense shooting level. I sure am glad to get to this puzzle/platforming par...WTF! where'd that fuck ing rock come from?!?"

Yup. This was my major beef.

I actually like quick time events. Does anyone else flip their hand and start mashing with their index or middle fingers when it's just a simple mash circle until it's over type event? I do the same thing for chainsaw duels and I haven't lost one yet. I guess I'm just chanelling (sp?) my old-school Space Invaders/Galaga skills from the arcade.

I call that the Tekken-style -- I started playing Tekken 2 like that on the PS1... with my palm flat towards the controller instead of my hand wrapped around it. only way I could replicate the combos and the style of the arcade controller on a dual shock type setup.

And when I don't *lag* with the transfer for the flip in gears, I don't lose chainsaw duels either.

Back to QTEs: I just remembered the boss QTEs; had forgotten about the ones for regular enemies like the Minotaurs and Medusas. Yeah, I guess they're kind of neat. Don't you still get the button hints, though? Those could've been a lot more subtle; as they are, it kind of breaks the immersion.

On a related note, I believe QTEs helped inspire the Action Commands in Kingdom Hearts 2, which are fucking idiotic, and might be another reason why I don't like the entire concept :-P

KH just sucks on the whole. Don't blame QTEs for that. KH2 may be better than KH, but I hated KH so much that I won't touch KH2.

I loved Resistance... it was the first console shooter I'd ever played, and I really enjoyed it. I liked it enough to play through at least twice AND get all the skill points. And I sunk a ton of time into multiplayer, though using the bullseye is pretty cheap/common and I sunk to that level a lot, myself.

Haven't tried R2 yet. Doesn't look to be worth $60 to me.

Probably a dumb question but how do you transfer the stuff on your current drive to a new one? With these HDD installs (which are great) I could use a bigger boat.

I think the 120gb drives come with a transfer kit which contains a CD and a cable for linking the 2 drives together. If you buy 2nd hand you have to get said kit from MS.

I was playing it without guns. It was frustrating as all fuck. I hated being locked in a room and required to fight. The game would have been about 100% improved if it had been designed so you could run away from any encounter, if you were smart enough. As it is, forcing the broken combat on you makes it easily comparable to some shit like Sonic Unleashed that forces the Werehog bits on you, which in my opinion, are equally as bad.

The only saving thing for Mirror's Edge was that it was shorter than Sonic. I played a bit of the time trial thing but the EA server login bullshit made me not care. It wasn't working when I did it, and I just played a few levels for a few extra achievements. The DLC does look nice. Should have kept that stuff on the disc. Or made it a free to download code in the box.

You can run from every encounter. The "locked rooms" aren't locked at all.
In one you can just run into an elevator and skip it, the second you can just run to the end of the room, and flip up into the little offices (factory level), and the other you can run past everyone and jump into another elevator. And those I did on hard, where 2-3 shots kill you.

The most you have to do is maybe jump kick a guy who's in the way and keep going. (and probably disarm another)

Also, you didn't unlock any of the extra time trial achievements, so I don't know why you said that.

KH had potential. The battle system just sucked. It seemed like it was ripping off the 3D combat in Ocarina of Time, but forgot to put in an enemy lock button... thus, I kept losing where I was in the battles and getting lost behind walls and shit. I kept trying to make it work... I ended up finishing the game as fast as possible and trading it to gamestop.

I was just playing ME last night. I agree that it's an uneven game with some technical and design issues, but man, when it clicks, it's pretty awesome.

And no, you're not supposed to engage enemies--the whole point of the game is to run away as fast and as acrobatically as possible. Confrontations are supposed to be brief and defensive in nature, if encountered at all.

It really depends on the game. PS1 games and obscure games take forever. I've never messed with the super new stuff because they cost too many points so I couldnt tell you. The number you have in line is misleading, I've been #20+ and I've been matched the next day.

I use the Gamestop B2G1 to farm goozex points. Its not like you are ever short of games to play anyway, so a little wait for something else isnt a deal breaker.

interesting. not sure why, but I didn't think you were into RPGs.The only genre I used to care about from PS2 era and before.

I've played most of them on PSX and SNES, and about half into the PS2 lifecycle. Since then I've mostly played here and there on handhelds, and a couple of the scraps that are these next-gen versions.

How could you not like Blue Dragon and Enchanted Arms!? They're in 3D!" They're totally crazy. And insanity is cool, because it's an excuse that can get you out of most crimes.

you will eventually. the credit card attached to mine became outdated--I lost the actual card, so I had it reissued. I didn't think to update the i-pass and 2 years later I got a $2000 bill from the state- $1 + a $20 fine for each time I used it. That's great and all , but have you been following whats been going on with atlus games in the deals forum the last month of two? Such as Eternal Poison price dropping 3 times in the 2 weeks after it had come out. Or several other atlus games going on sale for $20 (or less) each?

Up to about last year or so , it was always a good bet to buy an atlus game at full price , since they almost never dropped too much , and saved you the trouble of trying to find it later. But lately the games are almost too easy to find and are actually coming down in price.

Honestly though , it doesn't really bother me that much since I'm more interested in playing/having the game , then "collecting" it or hoarding it to resell it for profit later , but it does make things more complicated.

I have an 80GB, but the piece of shit corrupts PS2 saves - happened on both P3FES and Yakuza 2. And P4 is not a game where you want to have that happen. Plus it looks much better on an SDTV.

I've found this depends on the game. Devil May Cry 3 looked like shit. God of War 2 and MGS3 looked pretty good.

Yeah, tell me about it. Starts kinda slow, but at least the overall story/mystery is interesting. I just wish they would stop repeating everything like I haven't been paying attention or something. Like, something happens, then they talk about what happened. Then after its all over, they gotta recap everything and basically repeat their earlier conversation. Then the next day, they gotta remind you that it happened all over again. Then later that night, they show what happened on the news. Then, a few days later, they say something stupid like "Oh, remember when that happened?" And they repeat the shit AGAIN.

And I do not like the neon yellow background in the status menus. Ugh, it gives me a headache.

But enough bitching. I'm gonna go eat some lunch and play some more. I'm such a tool.

I started by making a custom character, people will probably spend hours doing this but I just made one quickly to get into the game. Starting the game, my custom character can be seen in the beautiful opening cinematics. There were many options available, save game, item transfer and network, but since this was an offline play stall they couldnt be accessed.

Into battle! Monsters can be seen and encountered on the field and the combat takes place right there and then. your party members are always on the field too. You can tell if there's a giant monster around because the screen starts to shake. Depending on the creature the screen will pan out to show them in their entirity so you can see just how much bigger than you they are.

The game has many features you can take ingame screenshots there was a list of trophies but they all said ??? You collect many items like monster parts, I assume for synthesis but I didnt get to try it out.
