Higher stakes and bad economy means more shakeouts for the people who do it wrong.

And Factor Five, Free Radical, and Blackbox were most certainly doing it wrong.

I'd go ahead and say any 3rd party doing exclusive PS3 games is doing it wrong.

I almost agree with this.

I remember having to pilot an A-Wing and destroy a bunch of pieces of a SD. The problem is that getting anywhere near a SD gets you killed almost immediately. A couple levels earlier, if you fly to a random, out of the way spot, you get an A-wing armor upgrade

I believe I know the stage your talking about now. Sounds like Razor Rendezvous. If I'm correct , the trick is just knowing where the targets are that you have to hit. Use the targetting computer if you have to. Once you know what your shooting , its all about hitting them hard and fast.

So my mom wants to know what game(s) to get me for Christmas. Assuming she can only buy one of these two, should I get Persona 4 or Call of Duty 5? I want both pretty bad, but I'm dying to play P4.

I watched a few episodes of the 1up show today on the road. My SF4 hype got even higher with the little segment they did on it. I'm surprised at how much I like a show that is just about videogames.

I'll think I'll play a little more PoP (with a keyboard, stupid M$ and their shitty adapters) and then go start Persona 3 over. I'm only like 12 hours in, I haven't played it in forever so I'll be all lost, and I want to just put it on easy so I can play through the game and enjoy it and not have to do a bunch of grinding.

If your still working on Persona 3 I'd say go for Call of Duty 5.

I think that what DMK about the closings of the companies being HD-related does hold some merit, because it costs more to develop in HD. When you're smaller companies like these guys, once you've been developing an HD game for awhile, you eventually start running out of money and credit dries up, so at some point you must release the game whether its 100% ready or not, just so you can continue to pay your employees. So when the game is released and its crap because it was rushed, and it doesn't sell, that means there's less money for the next project.

Anyway, I'm sure Atlus ain't going out of business anytime soon. I'd be very interested in seeing the sales of Persona 4 for this month.

Played more RB2 this weekend and I can't figure out the calibration settings.

I mean, it's perfect in RB1, but in RB2, I kept missing notes on songs I know I'm really good on.
I did the auto calibration, manual, tried tweaking.

Then I set lag for sound and video to just 0ms on both and boom, I full combo a song on expert.
I don't understand how setting it to no lag makes it work perfectly. I know I should have some lag, but it just doesn't seem present.

Yeah, I had the same problem where RB1 was perfect but RB2 required some lag calibration on my HDTV.

Decided to stop and Blockbuster while doing some Xmas shopping--

--Mario Party 5 (case + game)
--Yakuza

Traded in one GTAIV for $11 at GS and got Yoshi's Island GBA with the credit + $2 left over. Put Mario Party on Amazon, so I'll end up with GTAIV, Yoshi's Island, and Yakuza for about $15. Not too shabby. I'm stocking up for the next year (in which I can't spend much money at all.)


Had a 40% off coupon for Borders, but they didn't have what I wanted! I was going for Queen and Country Definitive Edition vol.2 or that Nausicaa coffee table art book. They had a book of Yoshitaka Amano's work for $40, but half the book was pages of his "complete work," i.e. about 16 thumbnails per page for 50 pages. :roll:

This is true. Also, DMK has a valid point; maybe going HD and focusing on Graphics might just kill the Gaming industry.

Lets say Nintendo failed super hard with the Gamecube and GBA, lets say the DS & Wii never arrived. Nintendo upped and disappeared. Now look at the VG industry Minus everything Nintendo and it's all starting to look extremely bleak.

I think you guys are getting all uppity because you don't like thinking that maybe, just maybe we're all part of the problem. That all the focus on Graphics, HD and the whole technological arms race is what's killing Gaming.

I do agree though, 3rd party exclusives on EITHER of the 2nd tier systems is a terrible idea, but especially the PS3.

Diablo is lame though with no real life friends to play with.
Also lame each time it's hacked.
I started my first time with Diablo II with friends from school after Blizzard refreshed the game. It was cool to see everyone starting from scratch.

That soon went to hell though as new methods of duping items came about.

Beat Haze last night. Friend and I bought it when it was $10 at BB so we could just co-op online through it.

This is how it went:

Sometimes games get dumped on and no one plays it ever, but there's something good in there.
Not with this game. Almost a cool script twist but then it went sour quickly with more lame gunplay and buggy as hell graphics.

It was truly a bad game and it's a good thing the 360 version was scrapped. There's no need to play it.
Also, corniest death scene at the end of any "boss".

Same exact experience here. Are you playing guitar though? I found +50ms for both made drumming better, but 0ms was better for guitar.

playing through god of war II on hard. not as bad as I remember it, but the image quality of this game is really rough. This is one of the few cases where 60fps isn't worth it (well, it doesn't really count since the framerate is so unstable.)

The Club seemed like it could be alright -- it's made by the people who did Geometry Wars, so in theory, if they could recreate similar score based elements in 3d/3rd person, it makes sense that it could be alright. I played the demo and it was ok, but it didn't hook me enough to care to go back and figure out all the combos and where the hidden skulls were and such.

Suikoden 1 and 2 have an undeniable charm and epic feeling to them. Something about their tone and style is very unique. Building a castle out of characters you recruit is basically a very simple gameplay idea, but let your imagination go with it and it feels very cool and very epic.

Suikoden feels a lot like the movie Red Dawn. A bunch of kids band together to fight back against an oppressive invading force.

So can you buy those PS1 games if you don't have a PS3? Does having custom firmware affect buying them for PSP?

Oh God, dude. SR2 co-op is infinitely better than Fable 2's. No shared camera and you can actually use your character. Not to mention SR2 is actually fun.

Persona 4 is turning out pretty good. Better than 3 anyway. There's a lot more up front story, but I think it makes the world make more sense than Persona 3's

"Hey you're in high school oh shit the dark hour we're a band of kids who venture into a dungeon now do it 1000 times also go to track practice" setup for the story which didn't really provide a lot of motivation. The murder mystery aspect is a good way to get interest from the start, I think.

In the past 4 days I finished school, got accepted to a law school, finished Xmas shopping, finished packing and unpacking my entire life's possessions, got a second job at another law firm....IT'S TIME TO GAME ALL FREAKING DAY.
In the last 4 days I, um, let's see. . . Played Fallout 3, Outrun 2006, HD Remix, and SoulCalibur IV, and jammed. That's it. I feel like such a slacker. :)

Anyway, congratulations on what will probably be a financially rewarding life. I'll probably end up as the decrepit old guy that greets you as you enter Walmart. :cry:

Merry xmas ggt! I got everything running and had a load of fun doing it. Here the video card was to big for the case XD so I had to cut into the hdd bay to fit it in. The 4850x2 is massive and very fast. About to go play some Fallout 3 and Dead Space now.

I'm cleaning my guitar. I'm giving it to my nephew for Christmas. He's always playing on it, and I'm completely terrible at it. I'm a drummer, not a guitarist. ;).

It's just a Fender Squire Strat that I bought from a friend for cheap. It's got American Strat pickups, also bought from that friend when he replaced the ones in his American Strat. My nephew should be pleased. My sis bought him an amp and other things, so he's good to go.

After that, some Fallout 3 methinks. Mods are awesome. I gave myself a red lightsaber for fun. I'm going to get some more later.

Too bad it couldn't be like Quantum of Solace , where the PS2 version of the game was considered the best version , and it wasn't even a FPS , it was a Gears of War style clone. No multiplayer though. I have it on my gamefly list just to check it out.

Also, one of the things I got was the Dark Knight BD, and I gotta say, this is one of the very few movies that has halfway decent cover art. The cover with the Joker on it is hella stylish. I'd buy more movies if there weren't like... 3 cover patterns companies used. Y'know, there's like... the one with three people's faces towards the top looking into the distance, the one with either a girl in front of a guy or vice versa, and there's the one where they have a few characters on the cover and one dude's doing something silly while one of the other guys looks at him like "man, you is whack."
