I wish my PS2 controller had a pause button. My sister-in-law knocked on the door right when the end cutscenes for DDS2 started. Great pair of games, but I'm not sure how I blew through 60 hours of them in a month.

Half.com has them at $45 and $99 new. Amazon has them around $50. That's pretty sweet. What's the best place to sell games like this?
hahaha
Nobody is buying that game.
Hell, one of the amazon copies is mine.
And I've been trying to sell it for a year+
Good luck young man

I hate that kind of thing happens. Thankfully some RPGs let you pause during cutscenes. How tough was that last dungeon? I'm thinking abnout finishing the game sometime soon.

So I guess...I just beat Age of Booty? I'm not sure. Is it just the 3 challenges? If so, I'm disappointed that it's so short. I mean, it says I won the final challenge, but I didn't capture all 4 towns before time was up. If I'm missing something, please tell me.

Finally actually spending some goozex points (had 8700 saved up) as I finally got matched up for The World Ends With You. All the other games on my requests are fall releases and thus long waits (which is fine as I still have a ton more to do in Oblivion and need to get around to playing Gears 2 on Insane).

I'm thinking abnout finishing the game sometime soon.I did a bunch of grinding in the last dungeon, so by the end, the random encounters were pretty easy (if I had the right skills, I could one-hit a lot of the enemies by exploiting their weaknesses). The first few floors were kind of a bitch, though.
The penultimate boss is probably who Chac is talking about, dude is a bitch, but I got him on my third try after some mantra grinding. As with DDS, the final boss is relatively easy. Especially when you use a boss guide.

I miss flipping! I'm still at home and there's no BBV here.
I did however buy a like new copy of tales of vesperia for $20 from someone at the gamestop here. I was trading in a few old DS games to get Bad Company new and noticed they were going to give this poor chap $17 for the game. I offered him $20 cash and he took it!
I'm probably just going to sell it on amazon though. ;) I need to finish Mother 3, Persona 4, and The Last Remnant yet..

Also, Puma- You're going to have a real hard time making any profit on those. Anyone savvy enough to be a big enough fan of Outrun to want a sealed copy is also savvy enough to realize they announced that game re-made in HD for PSN and Xbox Live next year.

Unless you were trying not to be biased, what with your relationship, and everything. I know it's not fair to vote for one's significant other in things like that.
Favorites! In no order!
Fallout 3
Super Turbo
Mother 3
Dragon Quest 4
Dead Space
Ninja Gaiden 2
Disappointments!
Metal Gear Solid 4 (TERRIBLE last half)
Patapon(Got Dull very quickly)
Fable 2(Dumb story, too easy, no motivation)
Mirror's Edge(TERRIBLE combat and story)
Little Big Planet (Awful, floaty controls and limited creation aspects)
And the worst games I played this year, but not necessarily released this year-
Manhunt 2 Wii - A Blockbuster flip I decided to throw in for a few minutes. That was all it took for me to hate swinging the controller around to attack and the dark, boring style.
Legendary - Oh my god this game is a peice of shit. End of story.
Sonic Unleashed - Werehog. Forced collection aspects. Poor design. Talking to people in hub worlds.
Heavenly Sword - Dumb, mashy combat and the worst final boss in recent memory.

Another ridiculously late night with Oblivion. Finished the last 5 Thieves' Guild quests. Last one was a bit of a pain, but otherwise pretty enjoyable. Think I just have the Mages guild quests left for 1000 achievement points in the main game and then it will be on to the expansions.
As for slowing down game buying, that was my goal with this gen. By less games and have no real back log-and also limit myself to one console. I've pretty much done that other than occasionally having a few games from Goozex waiting to get played. Have nothing untouched on the shelf currently.

I'm not making a real 2008 list as I haven't played most of the best games of 2008 yet. But from what I played:
Great games:
TWEWY
P4
Bioshizzle
MGS4
Yakuza 2
Disappointment:
MGS4 (it was great, but I expected greater)
Worst game:
Jake Hunter

Played a little bit of P4 yesterday, mainly just doing a bit of grinding and trying to get the right personas to fuse for leveling up the Empress S-link and getting some items for some sidequest requests that I've been putting off. I'll probably continue doing more of that today.
And my top games of the year:
MGS4
Valkyria Chronicles
Persona 4
Honorable Mentions:
DMC4
Mega Man 9
Bionic Comando Rearmed
Disappointments:
Mirror's Edge
SIREN: Blood Curse
The Infinite GGT:cry:

Top games I've played this year that were released in 08.
Mirror's Edge - (just beautiful, free flowing, biggest flaw is the lame, cliched story)
LittleBigPlanet - (super cute, addictive, played through the whole story mode with my lady friend, first game we've done that with, played lots of online games with my friends)
Gears of War 2 - (easily beats out the first one in terms of intensity, i was surprised, everything about it was thrilling, only played co-op)
Patapon - (reason i still hang on to my psp, can't wait for part 2)
Pixeljunk Eden - (very original, slick visuals, great music)
Fallout 3 - (just started my adventure on this but wow, was not expecting this having never played oblivion)
Crash Commando - (surprise PSN game of the year, extremely fun online)
Worst game I played this year:
Haze - (but that was expected)
If I'm missing something, I probably haven't played enough of it, or at all to make an opinion.
Or I just can't recall that it came out in 08, I'm bad at remembering that stuff.
EDIT:
Braid - (how could I forget?!, one of the finest puzzle games ever, didn't care too much for the story but the ending was clever)

I played enough of the beta to know I don't want to play the real thing.
And yes, limited. No jumping physics modification/shallow character customization, and every level basically needs to follow the same formula- Jump around and collect bubbles or control machines in a very indirect manner.
The game may allow for much diversity in a platforming style level, but anything that tries to be too different feels very gimmicky and disconnected, that I played.

Haven't played many 2008 games, mainly checked some older games.
My favorite so far is Gears 2. Also like Castlevania: Order of Ecclasia ok, but haven't touched it since I was home over Thanksgiving as Gears 2 and Oblivion have sucked up all my gaming time.
I was disappointed in GTA IV and Ninja Gaiden II, but that was really just the fact that I've never liked the GTA games nor most hard, skill based action games rather than anything wrong with the games. Just not my cup of tea. Also a few games I tried demos for and didn't care for--Mirror's Edge being the main example that comes to mind.
Several games I still need to play. The World is Not Enough (on it's way from Goozex), Fallout 3, Fable II, Left 4 Dead, Dead Space etc.

As I said before, of course I can easily memorize them. I just don't find it fun to do so and I play games to have fun. And I don't like hard games in general as they're not fun for me as I don't play to challenge myself.

Right, the lack of power-ups/game changing mechanics gets dull very quickly. Think of some of the best platformers of all time. They all use various means to empower the player and change up the style of gameplay.
Pure just jumping does get dull quickly. The reason people enjoy Yoshi's Island, for example, beyond the cute art style and quirky music are the tight controls, and the huge variety of gameplay styles beyond jumping and running. You can throw eggs at targets, eat enemies, transform into a helicopter/drill, there's that fun level with the enemies that make you dizzy, and the fantastic, epic end boss fight. Not to mention fun bonus games. LBP has none of these things. You can run, you can jump, you can grab things.
Little big planet is pretty one dimensional by comparison. I'm not saying they need to match one of the best platformers ever made on their first try, but it is 2008, and that game was made over 10 years ago.

Not that it matters, it's a sony product and you're going to defend it regardless. LBP and MGS4 were the biggest disappointments of the year, exclusive on the biggest disappointment of the generation.

He said it does have good level diversity for side-scrolling platform levels.
That's why I bolded it.
Ah. I misread it.
I see his gripe though, assuming he's talking about user created levels. I like playing a platformer that has some shitty plot, and a bunch of well designed levels that fit together cohesively. Just a nice, well put together experience.
I don't see much appeal in playing through a bunch of random, stand alone levels personally. It's neat to look at what people make, and if you play games for challenges I suppose having a never ending supply of levels to play through is great.
Though I'd still pick it up if I ever got a PS3 (which I won't) just to play through the main game since I love 2D platformers, even if they're rudimentary in terms of lacking powerups etc.

Yes, that's all you do, and in Mario 1 all I did was run, jump, and shoot fireballs. It's easy to oversimplify things.
You just missed the charm of a game you didn't even play seriously.

Now you're comparing Yoshi's Island to LBP?
Oh brother.
I think the point is this:
LBP is fun to play user created levels and/or to make levels if that's your thing.
But, it's not a particularly good traditional, single player platformer as the gameplay is very rudimentary compared even to the best 2D platformers from 10-20 years ago.
But I don't think that's a bad thing. It's just the LBP is a creative game, you shoud only buy it if you either plan to make levels, or enjoy playing user created levels. If you buy it expecting the next Super Mario World in terms of a quality, traditional single player platformer you're going to likely be disappointed as the gameplay lacks the variety of powerups etc. of games like SMW, Yoshi's Island etc.

I think it's a fine game, like I said if I had a PS3 I'd play through it for sure. Just saying that someone like Jer that wants a game with a variety of powerups and gameplay styles like Yoshi's Island will be hugely dissappointed.
It's not that type of game, it's a simple 2D platformer with the main appeal being making/playing user created levels. As such, the main game is pretty rudimentary compared to other 2D platformers, but it was still pretty fun from what I played. But probably not if you want to fly, turn into different machines etc. as in games like SMW and Yoshi's Island.

They don't need to change a thing. People like Jer just have to move on and realize that's not what it's meant to be.
I feel him, as I prefer games like SMW etc. where you can fly and get all kinds of cool abilities. For instance, I've never gotten into the Sonic games as just running fast gets boring quickly.
But some people spend far too much time bitching about games they don't like rather than just playing and discussing games they do like. Not every game is going to suit you, and thats' fine. Move on and play/discuss ones that do.

Indeed. I'm dying for great platformer, and that team may have the chops to do it. Canvas Curse was great, but I'd love to see a good 2D platformer with traditional controls and some cool powerups that are as fun as the ones in SMB3, SMW and Yoshi's Island.

Fanboys defending "their" company to the end, taking every minor negative opinion as a huge personal insult they have to defend with name calling or huge walls of text.
And haters that have to bash a company or game every chance they get rather than just moving on and playing and discussing something the actually enjoy.
It would be great if we could just play games and discuss them and the industry without all these people who take it way too seriously and personally one way or the other.

They did add a 'powerup', I supposed you can call it that.
The MGS pack added a paintball gun which opens up new possibilities since it's an equipable item, and it seems you can give 'life/hitpoints' to enemies.

Tiki Towers(99c)-Seems really fun so far. It's kind of tough to build really solid structures, but it's got a great art style and is addiciting as hell. It's a lot like Elefunk on the psn.
Bounce Trap(99c)-It's kind of like peggle/pachinko. Hard to explain how it works, so just download the lite version. It's addicting and hella fun.
Crazy Tanks (99c)-It's just like the tank game on wii fit, or the old atari combat game. It's got a great art style and wonderful controls, but it's pretty repetitive.

And yeah, that's a good link for nice levels to try when you're playing, I should post it in the LBP thread.
I'm being honest about R2 though. :)
Have you played it?
Only the beta. I thought the MP was reasonably done, but had complaints with the sizing -- it seemed that dumping 30 or so people in the level led to these awesome group firefights, but I'd get "clusterfucked" all the time... (that's my term for when people would queue up on my lead, follow me into narrow pathways, making it so i couldn't step backwards to use cover when being fired at, essentially turning me into a meatshield). That and if you respawned far from the epic battles, you had a ways to run before you got to them.
Not sure how the final build plays, or how the single player is.
Having played WaW a bit, (though I didn't make it far, as I started on "raining 'nades" and I don't like all the bolt action/single shot historic guns), that seems like a hell of an insult to me.

Fieldrunners.
All the ngmoco games.
Warfare Incorporated. (Almost, but not quite, Starcraft on iPod)
I have fieldrunners
I have all the mgmoco games besides Rolando (which I can't justify spending 10 bucks on)
WI looks really good, I might check it.
I'm thinking about getting touchgrind.
And I REALLY want Sim City, but I have a 5 dollar mental price barrier.

Yeah SimCity will probably drop in price eventually.
I'd get warfare soon though, it's on sale for $5. They're working on incorporating multiplayer, and there's hundreds of fan-made maps to download for free. Once multiplayer gets added, they'll probably go back up to $10. It controls really well. A very competent portable RTS. Better than I've played on any other portable, or console.

So I've been playing Fallout 3 for a while, and I just found out about the hotkeys in it. So now I have my red lightsaber on 1 and my hunting rifle on 2. Now I can pop heads off at a distance, or fuck some dudes up when they rush me. It's great.
I'm thinking when I'm done with it, I'll try my hand at some modding. I'm thinking a fort full of super mutants for peeps to kill, because I love killing them.
And I'm a little late to the party, but here's my list of shit I liked in 2008
Best of what I've played
DMC4 - Best action game I played all year.
SSF2T HD Remix - Just awesome.
SCIV - I'm a fan, and I have peeps to play with that I actually want to play with.
MGS4 - Again, I'm a fan. I just want more areas like the first 2 though.
Crysis Warhead - It's one hell of a ride.
Fallout 3 - It's great. VATS make it awesome.
Dissapointments
Ninja Gaiden 2 - It felt rushed and lacked the magic of NG1.
Gears 2 - MP is a glitchfest, and charging $10 for 3 maps instead of patching the shit is ridiculous. SP is boring as well, yeah I'm probably alone on that.
360 dpad - Fuck this piece of shit.
Bear in mind I haven't played Persona 4 yet, though it'll probably end up being the best game of the year.

Yeah, he'd probably make more that way. I paypaled $17 and will get $11 back when he gets the game back, so it would be a pretty secure way for him to keep making money on it and have it paid for (with more than he was asking for) if someone doesn't send it back.

Please HELP! We have done everything possible to regain our standing and 98% rating, now out of work makes ebay our only source of income for our family. We are not known to be slow or nonresponsive, understand we had been behind in emails since our daughter was hit by a car, popping off her safety helmet breaking the side mirror, in hospital 10 days, she is type1 insulin dependant diabetic the accident has stressed her condition she is now covered in rashlike sores that after 3 biopsy tests, specialists call diabetes effecting her immune system attacking her skin. This has been a trying time for us. ebay has since suspended our accounts, we have fixed the few problems we had and have been taken by a couple of overseas buyers, with no help from ebay or paypal, so please find it in your heart to leave us a positive feedback or we will be facing losing her, our home and everything that matters to us in life.

Switching to first person view on the motorcycle makes it a hell of a lot easier to control, the jobs don't seem as bad, and the action is actually really, really good and fun.
And on the "games as art" front, I can see what people mean when they say it's a parody of gaming culture.

The parody in NMH backfired on me. I love the art style, the irreverance, the general themes and goals it aspires to, but the execution is poor, from the gameplay to some of the overall design. Hopefully NMH2 will improve on those aspects, maybe use the better Wii controls. There's also Mad World...
