Only wanted to do one quest and went to bed at nearly 3am! :bomb: At least I jumped up two levels.

I've had several nights (and long days at work the next day) for the same reason with Oblivion. Fire it up with intentions of doing a quest or two and end up playing until 2, 3 or 4 am.

These games are like crack.

Oblivion never stuck with me the way Fallout did. I think it's the medieval setting and that the quests aren't nearly as interesting.

Shivering Isles was good though. More unique.

Happy birthday, Azu! Did you ever friend request Josh on Facebook? ;)

Today, I don't have shit to do. Woke up at 2:30. I'll probably just mope around, and go with a friend to his bro's for a party. I don't drink and I'm single on New Year's Eve. Yet I'm not interested in just picking up random hos for some fun. I've never been interested in that, actually. I'd rather have a loving relationship than some one night stand. [/personal info]

Back on topic, Fallout 3 is great. Regulators and super mutants need to fucking run for their lives when they see me coming.

I'd disagree. I liked Oblivion more than Fallout 3. I actually found the quests more interesting, I liked how your stats changed depending on how you played, and I prefer a fantasy setting.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to Fallout 3, but I kind of doubt I'll like it as much as Oblivion as I too really like the fantasy setting more than a post-apocalyptic sci fi type of setting. Though I dig that stuff too. Loved the shit out of Mass Effect (sci-fi, but not post apocalyptic).

Oblivion definitely has a lot of flaws--as I said before probably the most flawed game that I've enjoyed anywhere near this much. But it just sucks me in and keeps me playing like few other games. I think it's the quest system--I like having linear goals to work toward. Quick travel is a life saver as well. I'd quit long ago if you had to walk everywhere as it takes so long to get across the world.

Yeah a lot of it is personal preference.

I get a little bit angry whenever I think about that damn conversation wheel, though. That was the worst thing ever.

dmaul1114
12-31-2008, 05:44 PM
Conversation wheel is pretty stupid.

I'd really love it if Bethesda could make a game that played more or less like this but had the dialog trees like Bioware's games. It makes conversations much more interesting when you have choice over what to say and what you say has an impact on the gameplay.

jer7583
12-31-2008, 05:49 PM
Fallout 3 is almost exactly that.

The conversations are tree based, but more direct than Mass Effect's general options.s

dmaul1114
12-31-2008, 05:52 PM
Good to know. Definitely looking forward to playing that down the road. Will be after finishing Oblivion and taking a break from RPGs for a bit....probably work out well since it will be a while yet to get it off of Goozex.

dmaul1114

Hmm, sounds like I won't like conversations in Oblivion.

They're mostly just regular RPG conversations with really no options (other than agreeing to do quest or not etc.).

The dialogue wheel is a mostly optional thing you can do to raise the person's disposition toward you. Sometimes you have to do it to get them to tell you something you need to know to move a quest forward. But usually it's just there if you want to raise the disposition of shop owners to get better prices etc.

Rei no Otaku

My character was a magic user so I had spells that raised NPC disposition. I rarely bothered with the wheel.

The first edition sucked. They have since been revised and the USB charging ones are much better.

As far as the battery life sucking, I would have to disagree.

A full charge should last you 10 hours (who games that much in one sitting?). It also holds a charge very well and turns itself off when not in use. I haven't played the 360 in a while, it's been about 10 days since I played online. Went on last night, and the headset was still sitting pretty at a 80% charge.

The white ones use the same tech as the Halo ones now, suko.

dallow
12-31-2008, 06:34 PM
Well that's good to hear then.
I think I will spring for a USB charging headset sometime. Little wire started to become annoying in addition to the sound problem.

Any general tips on party building in Disgaea? Seems like unless you use a very small subset of people, there's not enough exp to go around to keep everyone relevant. Half way through Vyer's Castle (first dimension after the tutorial) everyone besides Laharl and Etna were underleveled and I have to pretty much run through one of the previous maps with one character exclusively to even gain a single level.

I beat the Mid-Boss map with Laharl alone after the other 7 people were wiped out in one hit.

suko_32

In Disgaea games I tend to just level one guy up (until post-game) and 98% of the time it's fine.

Gears of War 2... The first few hours didn't really grab me. I thought the game was pretty meh. But I sat down today and played. I couldn't stop it got so good. It might be my GotY now. MGS4 was previously, and ill probably never play that again. Gears I definitely had more fun with. Riding the Brumak and the tank segments were awesome. The weapon that calls down the satelite strike is a blast too. I guess I am a month or so late but whatever :-P

Are Disgaea games really hardcore? Rondo of Swords I didn't like cause it was too hard. FFTA/2 I had a blast with cause they weren't too hard. I could beat most levels on the first try and never took more than 3. Front Mission 3 is one of my favourite games of all time too but I haven't played another FM since. So is Disgaea good for me you think?

Hey all,

How was everyone's Christmas and New Years? Mine wasn't half bad. I musta been a good boy with how well Santa treated me ;)

I started Dragon Quest IV(gift from Santa:lol:) I'm on chapter 2 and I've clocked over 4 hours or so. I'm getting sort of frustrated with it... not really knowing what to do at some points means I have to check a FAQ to see what I'm supposed to do. It's kind of annoying. So I think I may take a break from it and start Chrono Trigger. The mistake I might have made was starting DQIV over CT. But I'll be damned if it isn't tough to juggle two rpg's at once.

Went to the "prototype" Gamestop today for the first time and it was pretty neat. Even better that I managed to get Gears of War 2, LittleBigPlanet, and Prince of Persia (PS3) off a guy for $20 each. They're even complete and like new condition. He had a lot of other quality stuff, but for some reason I didn't pick them up and kinda regretting it.

Also, my Call of Duty: World at War from Best Buy somehow wasn't stolen even though it's been in my apt's doorstep for about a week. When I opened up the package, I notice the cellophone wasn't there but the Microsoft seal was there. It kinda look liked someone stuck it back on. When I opened it, miraculously everything was there. I will be bouncing off the walls when T6 comes out!

In other news, my brother and I picked up a tv that we bought from one of his friends. It's like 250 pounds but super nice and 1080p, but we had to go up a narrow ass winding staircase with it. I'm tired now.

Also, yay skate 2 demo!

Hey there, GGT.

I got LBP recently with my also-recently obtained PSTriple (along with some other games). I have to say, I do not regret it at all, mainly in part to LBP and SFHD. Hopefully I find some time to get back to playing Persona 4, since I've been busy on other things, and I don't want P4 to get swept out of the picture and my memory.

Crisis Core: Based off my own playtime with the game, the views of people who usually don't play the genre who have completed it, and overall reception.

Yakuza 2: same as above except instead of playing it, I've watched way too much of it to really not know how it plays.

Space Invds: I have the demo, and have played it more than a few games I've bought. It's also come up in some discussions with friends at college.

I do hope to play one of the persona games (3 or 4) eventually since you praise it so much, but again, it's gotta wait

It's not as bad as people say. Rock Band is obviously better, but GHWT still has a decent base selection, and the charting isn't nearly as bad as GHIII.

If RB wasn't around it wouldn't be bashed nearly as much as it is.

See, that's the problem. They don't put the extra effort in to make shit like that happen. Just like how the quickplay song selection is shit, and how the charts still aren't on Rock Band level. If they would put some fucking effort into the game, it would be great.

Well I thought it might be a Singstar like set up, where when you get ready to play the set of songs from RB1 you might have to swap discs. If you want both in the drive at the same time... it's gonna take one helluva mod to make that happen.

Good morning GGT.

Played a bit more P4, and that's about it. I need to jump back onto Chrono Cross, but I still haven't played it since the car ride home after X-mas.

Gonna install Deus Ex today and do some PC gaming, something I haven't done in awhile. I just wish the HDTP mod for it that has been in the works for years was ready for release. Just checked their website (http://www.moddb.com/mods/project-hdtp) and its still very alive tho. I'm really looking forward to playing it again, since I don't think I've played it since 2001.

My first brother wanted WT for Christmas more than RB2 , mostly cause he recognizes more songs from Guitar Hero than from Rock Band. The other reason being that he's afraid the guitar from the second game would be as bad as the stratocaster , which he hated.

I want to play horde sometime too! I've done a few of the maps with friends but very few of my friends play it anymore. Besides zewone.

I got Oblivion GOTY ($20), Guilty Gear XX Accent Core on PS2, and Skies of Arcadia Legends today. They were all cheap cheap cheap.

I guess Oblivion got some ambition, finally.

well it was only $20, and more than likely It'll get flipped to blockbuster for $35..

I was going to get a new 360 headset anyway, because my old one won't plug into my stick I made very well. The new ones have a regular stereo jack with inline volume controls instead of it being done on the base like the old model.

Blockbuster is still giving $35 for it despite the price drop to $30?

jer7583

yes ;)

I'll give it until sunday to consider. I do want to play the rest of the shivering isles quests - i really enjoyed what I did play. Enough to suffer through the more annoying parts of the game.

Man, Timesplitters Future Perfect is a fun game, for being last gen and stuff. We don't have multiplayer-worthy internet here and I've been playing the bots a little bit while listening to podcasts, and it's actually pretty fun.. I might hook it up online if the servers still work.

NG2 was my biggest disappointment last year. It just felt rushed, and lacked the magic of NG.

I slaughtered the slaver camp in Fallout 3 using the Lincoln repeater. Once again, Lincoln helped end slavery.

This. CoD: Modern Warfare 2 sounds like my kind of game. The Treyarch approach of using CoD4 and skinning it to be a WWII era FPS just didn't do it for me.

I've got CoD4 and CoD:WaW, and I sent you a friend request that you never replied to, Puma.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma was great. It's the version of Ninja Gaiden I finished. Never did finish black or the original yet.

I never noticed loading in the middle of a battle that I remember, so it couldn't have been bad.

Maybe if you play on security, you would stand a chance. Maybe.

I slaughtered the slaver camp in Fallout 3 using the Lincoln repeater. Once again, Lincoln helped end slavery.

When I did that part I went into the slaver leader's house, killed everyone inside, then went out on his second floor balcony, and pulled out the minigun Terminator 2 style

"He's got a goddamn minigun!"

It was awesome.

Also awesome: Throwing tenpenny's body from his balcony. Then placing his naked body in the fountain out front, in full view of the guards. Then placing the torsos and limbs of tenpenny and his guards in the fountain out front. Then placing mines and tossing grenades into the fountain.

So I'm wondering what kind of art I should put on my stick..

That Chrono Trigger poster that came with Chrono Trigger DS would work well, and I wouldn't have to pay to get something professionally printed..

I have seen some really awesome Chun-Li art, though. I've got all white buttons and a white ball top joystick.

Or I have a painting of mine I'm pretty fond of. I could get that scanned and reproduced.

I'm soooo tempted to do a Red Album art if I end up getting this HRAP3. It's a shitty album, but it's weezer and it matches the red buttons.

Got in another good session with Oblivion. Got 12 or 13 of the Mage's Guild Quests done. Hopefully I'll have time tomorrow to polish the rest off and have the 1000 achievement points from the main game and be all set for the expansions.

I played Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia for over three hours, trying to finish the game up completely. I've played the entire series (including shit like Castlevania Adventure on the GB) and I have to say, I really believe SOTN has finally seen its successor. The game is farmore difficult, the level variety is amazing, just about everything has improved the from the previous games in a big way.

Except for the music strangely enough, it is good (don't get me wrong) but I feel Portrait of Ruin, Circle of the Moon, SOTN, and too many others in the series got it better. Now, if we really wanted to see evolution, they need to make a 2D (hand-drawn style, not that CV: Chronicles semi-2D/3D shit on the PSP) and put it on a HD console. Granted, I wouldn't be able to play it but man...

It would really be something else to see. :D

I need to get back to that game. Haven't played it since I was at my parents Thanksgiving week.

I was having a hard time getting into it as it was a bit too difficult for me, and I wasn't digging the small levels and looking for villagers--didn't feel like a Metroidvania and I never liked any Castlevanias other than SoTN and the GBA/DS games.

But I wasn't hating it and need to try to see if I can get motivated to beat it.

For me, Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow are the pinnacle of the handhelds... CotM was pretty good too, in retrospect. OoE has some bright spots but sucks in waaaaay to many areas to outshine SotN or DoS, especially.

Well, I think I broke the main quest path in Fallout 3. Liberty Prime, that big ass fucking piece of shit, gets stuck on the first barrier and won't move!! I ran ahead, killed everyone, tried everything to get him to keep going, nothing worked. I got around the other forcefields, but without him, I can't advance. I even used no clipping to get inside the Jefferson building and I just can't complete the quest without him getting there. It pissed me off so much. Any ideas?
