Wait, pro Yu-Gi-Oh?
Yeah. I started out in playing Casual is HS, but lately I've been playing it on Pro Level almost akin to Pro Magic, only there's no real cash prizes Pros have to find ways to circumvent that. Me personally I buy / sell / trade to make money off of it. Started out a few hundred in the hole, but I've been digging out of it and now I make a small profit from it. My biggest prize to date was winning a PSP Phat off some dude :]

No, you should most certainly not be playing yu gi oh, competitive or otherwise.
Legendary leads you down a corridor as rubble falls in a convenient path. Then you're forced into a sewer to shoot monsters that do nothing but run at you.
It's more 1996 of a game than resistance 2.
Quake1 had more fun level design and better monsters.
Stop playing bad games. No excuses. Re-play and love a good game before sinking to playing legendary for god's sake.
It's not like there's a shortage of good things to play.
Oh that's right. You're a ps3 guy. Explains everything. Carry on.

And why not? If you're gonna shit on my hobby, I might have to point that you waste your life on Video Games that do nothing for you while you sink tons of money into it.

-Never4ever-
01-13-2009, 05:25 AM
They're both games. Hell when you consider the fact there's games out based on the YGO TCG rule set then they're exactly the same thing.
I was just comparing 2 gigantic wastes of time, and how one pays money, while the other takes it.
Although you could do the same with Video Games too if you're good enough.

01-13-2009, 05:29 AM
I guess you're in some kind of "I hate video games" phase right now. I really don't see the need to post this, but if you insist. This is just how I see it, meaning I could be wrong, but I don't think so.
One is a common hobby amongst young males that is socially acceptable.
The other is a trading card game for kids based off of a kids TV show. Most would see it as socially awkward.
Oh, so you make a living off of Yu-Gi-Oh cards?
Most people do their hobbies for fun and use extra money from their day jobs to afford it during their leisure time. Most hobbies do cost money.
No disrespect, but you're probably on the wrong website for trying to make claims against playing video games.

Naw I love Video Games, always have, always will. and if you spend $10 a year on them or $1000 on them that's your choice and I'm cool with that either way.
My problem was with Jer coming at my hobby from outta the blue. Just sorta pointing out that its the ole "kettle calling the pot black" ordeal. Only the Kettle's fucking worthless, while the Pot actually serves some sorta usefulness.
Maybe your problems with me I take it? Idk I tend to get under people's skin and I know I had most of the OTT crew hating me at some point.
Oh I don't make a living off of it, I just get a bit of cash here & there. I prob ave around $50-70 a week.

Yu Gi Oh? Hell, you make more money with that 'hobby' than I do with roller derby, and I consider myself a professional at that. So...yeah. I mean, as long as you're not slangin' dope or blowin' dudes, money's money, no?

It's an SRPG, lite on the RPG. It's pretty original since you control your characters in real time; I can't really compare it to anything else.
The demo was interesting, but I'm not sure if it's worth 60.00
Graphics are beautiful though.

Yep. Initial reactions to the game:
1) Pre~tty!
2) The hell kinda game is this supposed to be!?!?!?!
My reactions were similar after trying the demo. Sega had some rough competition this past fall, and their marketing strategy wasn't to help sell a new and unique game as new and unique, but to sell "HEY KIDZ! SONIC'S A WEREWORF GRAWWWWR!"
Not a terrible idea (but a terrible ad and the company that pitched or produced it should die in the ad industry), but some reallocation of funds to market VC might have helped some.
But, hey, them's the breaks. Sega may not turn a profit on this one, and they may not see fit to develop a sequel.

No.Why no? You haven't even meant me in reality to judge how I am. Most of my friends can say I'm actually pretty social and enjoy being around them when I'm not busy with stuff. I mean, I next to never talk about gaming in reality and more of a sports guy (kind of like my pictures show). I just leave my gaming discussions/debates to forums. ;)
if i get into the college of my choice then ill be moving to San Antonio, TX :DLet's just say I've seen some jobs there, but I'd most likely end up near Dallas, TX if anything.
Anyway, last night I played some Crash Commando. Pretty fun and glad I finally got the "Hacker" trophy in the game (where I have to take the data out of 10 computers and take it to base). Next up I need to bomb 10 bases.

That's a lotta Fable dislike for a game that was roundly praised. Huh.When you play it (whether you start it now, or sometime after Fallout, let me know what you think. I was wanting to like it. Picked it up because of the two-player sandbox type play that was available. But it really wasn't terribly inducive to two-player (many narrow paths where one player gets kinda squeezed out), lots of clipping (on dog, on the other player, on npcs), et cetera. So we wound up playing on our own, and its still amazingly lame.
The speech ...is. .S. .l . o. w. and. you ..wait ..for. peo.ple. to ..just hu.rry... up. and finis.h.. and the story is really shallow and lacking (just VERY contrived). Every item you find (chest, dig up) is a gold bag or some stupid ring or potion (except for in a couple dive spots, I never found a weapon). The female character looks heinous if you add any physical attributes or speed (she gets laughably tall), the clothes (the few of them there are) all make her look like some fat old granny. And after the spire thing, which you're in there for ten years... You come out and it's autumn (oohh WOW!!!), but still the vendors are selling the exact same clothes and items! And the spire mission was so lame, jaeli and I just looked at each other with disbelief. Youre supposed to be a hero, right? ugh.
Myke, play it. I hope everyone enjoys it, including you. But I found it SO friggen lame. Peter was all, this fixes all teh problems of Fable (1). Not so much, it fixed some and created all new ones.
Is blue dragon worth ten bucks? If you have nothing else to play, if you enjoy turn based rpgs, if you enjoy the character design, if you like to collect games for the sake of having them sitting on your shelves. If any of those is yes, then pick it up if you have an extra $10 that couldn't be better spent.
I believe Ar Tonelico 2 is being sold with the book and soundtrack in the initial print run.Would someone please buy my Ar Tonelico book pleeeeeeeeease?
The Mana Knight
01-13-2009, 11:00 AM
As for Valkyria being $40, you never know. The game is getting a lot harder to find (and I doubt Sega will ship anymore copies). It might drop to $40 at some places, but may be hard to find. I was lucky to spot 4 copies of Valkyria Chronicles for $30 at Wal-Mart (the deal was YMMV) and considered picking them up for people I know, wasn't carrying much cash in my wallet. When I went back to Wal-Mart last week, they were out.
I actually enjoyed the Sonic Unleashed demo and I definitely plan to buy the game. I'm okay with the QTE while flying.
Speaking of Ar Tonelico 2, I really want the game, but not sure if I will buy. I really enjoyed the first Ar Tonelico, but never finished it. I kind of question whether I'd play the 2nd, since I rarely play PS2 or any non-next gen platforms these days (which is partially why I didn't pick up P4 yet, although I definitely believe it rocks).

I want to get into Fallout 3, but like my let-me-constantly-remind-you-I'm-a-soon-to-be-phd-drink-fine-beer-and-am-cooler-than-you compatriot dmaul, I'm suffering from that sweet love hangover of Oblivion. I need a break from that style of play, if only for a little bit.

Bought it for cheap during that Gamefly sale and have been playing it with a buddy online. It's really fun, and you really have to help each other out, more so than I felt you did in Gears where one guy could just do it all pretty much.
Hope it gets a sequel and some its quirks worked out.

Getting YGO! Tag Force 3 later today. Game sucks balls -- like all YGO! Video Games -- but the card pool in insane compared to World Championship 2008 and I'll prob get a ton of mileage out of using a 100% complete game save and just making decks. Wish Konami would get off their lazy arses and implement online play in the PSP YGO! games. Or have a somewhat decent card pool with 2009

Since I can't read Japanese I have never gotten around to picking it up. But from what I heard it doesn't look as good as the GC version and the load times are a little longer. But it does have some extra content iirc, An extra costume for each character and some other stuff I don't remember.
ZoE 2nd Runner is a blast. Only like 4 hours too, so it's a good game to beat in a day. I want ZoE3 badly.
I got mine at Target for $7.50 years ago. CC had them for like <$10 too.
For some reason I kept skipping that game until I couldn't find it any longer. But I came across a used copy at a new Gamstop for $10 about a year ago. I'm still kicking my self for not getting it sooner...

And yeah, lolz about onion rings and stuff but it's nice to go out for free olive garden, magiaannos, and such. Not the BEST thing ever, but I'm pretty sure only Applebees serves Onion Rings. And we don't go there. And these aren't substitute dates, they're just bonus, "hey I got this let's go out" type thing. I'm sure she'd have a laugh at your smarmy reactions. Saving money and getting things cheap is the last thing I'd expect to get made fun of on CAG, but there are certain folks that will say whatever it takes to be contrarian to whatever I'm saying at the time. The first ZoE can be beaten in around 2 hours once you know what to do.
Yeah, I knew it wasn't very long. Last time I played it was right when it came out. I beat it 3 times in a day. The ending was so incomplete that I figured you had to beat it on hard to get a batter one or something. I was wrong.
I remember those days of having nothing to play on PS2.

And yeah hank, I'm very late to the party on ZOE2. >_<

How much time do you have? All of those are great IMO. FFXII, Xenosaga 3, and Persona 3 are all pretty long. Yakuza 2 is straight bad ass and isn't as long, and ZoE2 is pretty short, but awesome still. I'd say Yakuza 2 if you don't want to invest much time.
After playing ZoE2, the first game really feels like just a prologue to its sequel.
Definitely. It also feels like a tech demo compared to the second one. ZoE2 is just so much better.

Hey Zew,
There's no such thing as 360 models having different a/v port sizes is there?
My friend got a used component cable from some GS and said it doesn't fit. It's definitley a 360 cable as it was 12.99 but I know it's not 1st party.
I went and bought him one myself last night to give to him later, and return his.
I really don't think there's various sizes, unless they sold him a shitty "universal" one and it doesn't have the right adapter.

It's more like Ace Combat in space. The problem that turns many people away is it has a steep learning curve. It's pretty much a must for you to go into the tutorial and learn all your ships abilities because you WILL need them. For example, if you need to take out a large cruiser you can't just fly at it firing your missiles. You need to fly at it, air brake, and inertia strafe it while firing anti-ship guns. If you haven't gone into the tutorial, and you don't know what that means, you're not ready to play the game.

The Fighter Thread green screen movie is officially green lit!!!! ( at double green)
So far Markman and JEKKI are confirmed characters.
I'm tossing around the idea of having the main hero named Rero, or something that sounds the same and is spelled differently. Also possibly considering one of his weapons to be silver drum sticks.
MarkMan is probably going to be the coolest character in the film from where production stands so far. Black full body costume, still have yet to decide on face mask design and weapon. He's the anti-hero.
JEKKI is going to be the most fun to play as, due to how the costume is going to be built.
I don't start shooting until either next week or the week after due to homework and an art show this weekend that I have a video animation to finish for.

Me. Virtua Fighter is like an STD, man. It's straight garbage.
It was alright back in arcades with VF, VF2, and maybe even VF3. But VF4 was garbage. One of the most disappointing games I ever dropped $$$ on. I somehow got suckered into dropping the $20 on Evo too, thinking it could somehow fix the steaming pile of crap that had shat in my PS2. Wrong. VF5 follows the same path...
I know everyone else loves it for some reason. But it could follow the path set by the E.T. video game and I couldn't care less -- I never found the system to be "deep" and the graphics creeped me out like some sort of uncanny valley effect.
Screw VF. Give me Tekken, Street Fighter, 2D Mortal Kombat, or Soul Calibur any day. I'll even take other SNK stuff like Fatal Fury or Samurai Showdown. I'm sure there's more franchises I'd rather play too.
Picked up the Fable II DLC last night and played through the Ice Key quest. Also played more Fallout 3. I'm still workin' my way to Rivet City. I guess I could just run/sneak over there, but I like clearing the way in front me and gaining XP/exploring. I wish I could do it faster though.

I've enjoyed the series since I first played VF in arcades. Shit was so weird compared to SF2 HF, but I dug it. Since then, I've put in tons of time into each one, and I'm a huge fan of the series. It's funny that you didn't like VF4, because that was the one that even my casual friends got into. I bought a PS3 for VF5 and T5DR, and I didn't regret it one bit, since I play more fighters than anything. 360 wasn't doing it for me. I'd say it's no deeper than anything else, but it's more based on timing and skill than mashing out combos. Though you can do that with Lau pretty easily. ;)
Different strokes for different folks.
I'll play pretty much any fighter, except for some like MK vs. DC, since I swore off 3D MKs after Deception. And the obviously shitty ones like Time Killers and War Gods and shit.

MK vs. DCU is halfway decent for being a 3D MK game -- I played MK4 maybe, when it was in the arcades -- that shit was bad. Probably worse than VF. ;) But this new one isn't terrible.
My main problem with VF4/5 is that I'm a sucker for SF/Tekken/MK style moves. This "UP+punch+kick" or "DOWN+kick+guard" just doesn't do it for me. Probably why I hate Smash Bros. in some regard too. I don't mesh with the "input" commands for those games and thus, I never feel like I can do combos... I mean, I went through the tutorials for Kage, Wolf, and several others and I just couldn't find a single fighter that made it feel like I was doing anything more than button mashing.
Yeah, the combos/controls for VF are complicated compared to Tekken. I can see how it'd put some people off. I still don't know what I'm doing. -_-

Oh god, MK4, that shit was pure lulz. :) My main problems with 3D MKs are things like "3 of the same move in a row = combo" and, in Deadly Alliance and Deception, they just tacked on a moment where you couldn't block after a move as a way of making it unsafe, even if you could move and the move was finished. It was ghetto as hell.
I see you point about VF, even though Tekken has tons of moves that are Up/Towards and LK+RK, or Towards and LP+RP. SC too, direction plus A+B, B+K, etc. My friend plays VF5 and enjoys it, even though he doesn't do much other than PPPK and PPP2K. He's a masher at heart, whereas I'm always trying to set up juggles or sneak in grabs.
Tekken is definitely more "I did a move, look at it go!" than VF5. It's more immediately gratifying to see a big ass uppercut with lightning and shit than a little elbow poke. :)

They're simply very different games. Tekken can be friendly to spammers (to overgeneralize, as I'm sure MarkMan would disagree) and button-slammers. The VF series was *never* forgiving to that kind of gameplay; and it has a steep learning curve, so those people accustomed to intuitively learning to play a game expertly wouldn't be turned on by that either.
Kinda like why folks don't like the Fire Pro Wrestling games: it makes button-mashers hate themselves. Or throw the game out the fucking window with no remorse.
That said, I never put the time into VF to learn it, and I grew bored with Tekken, lamentably, after buying Dark Resurrection from the PSN. ZzZzZzZzZz.

VF3 was OK, but it's probably the series low point IMO.
I've loved Tekken since I got it on release for PS1. I was hooked instantly, and I still am. I almost bought a Saturn for VF2, but I waited until I got a good deal on one.
I bought my Saturn used for 60 bucks with Sega Rally, VF2, and Shinobi Legions back in '97. I played a ton of VF2. I got so many good deals for Saturn; Dragon Force for $20, Guardian Heroes for $12, Panzer Saga for $20, Shining Force 3 for $20, etc. Good times.

Yeah, good competition with good players makes fighters worth playing. My friends would play Tekken and VF with me, but they got tired of losing. one of my good friends had these really ghetto, grill wearing, xxxxxl white shirt wearing thugs as neighbors that were pretty funny to play games with, and man, those were the days. almost got shot a couple of times, or strangled with the controller, but nobody there could touch my maxi. 8-)

I agree. VF, you mash, you usually die. Tekken is like that though, against anyone that's decent, but you can get away with it a little more.
Agreed. You have to play VF like you're actually a martial artist. There is little luck when it comes to winning and losing. It's all knowing how to use your fighter's moves effectively to get out of a pinch.
I love Fire Pro BTW.
Winner!!! The best $5 I spent on any game in....2007?! WTF?! Where does time go?

i guess thats why i don't like those games. smashing buttons really sucks, but if I have a friend playing with me thats usually all that goes on. my girlfriend hates those fighting games (loves cvs2/mvc2, though) and the few friends i have that still live in the valley think gaming is for people with pocket protectors and boogers on their shirt collar.
Maybe you should get a pocket protector and put some boogers on your collar to attract some other gamers.
