LBP or Disgaea 3?

Which should I pick up at GS today?

I have a sneaking suspicion you won't like LBP, and I'm not the kind of person who would recommend a Disgaea title. So...yeah.

Early import pricing on the Advent Children BD w/ FFXIII demo clocking in b/w $65-70. No thanks by about...$65-70.

Theres a huge thread listening to alternative gaming podcasts.. Ones that I've found that are really good imho Player one podcast, Gamers with Jobs, and Idle thumbs.

For the non-gaming.. Common sense and hardcore history by Dan Carlin rock

Sounds like the 1st expansion is like the Mass Effect one: just side missions that don't need a level cap. If the DLC after that actually furthers the story, then a level cap increase seems more necessary. All the DLC is optional, so it's no biggie to me. I personally have a lot left to do in the game.

To me, I felt less accomplishment doing anything and not receiving any exp as a reward -- my karma had been maxed for awhile and my caps were overflowing... so by the time I was finishing the main quest and collecting bobbleheads, everything was an unrewarding chore. I suppose I'd be motivated by the achievements... but I really hated dealing with enemies and crap when I wasn't getting exp for my troubles. :\

I can understand that. Then again, seeing a head explode off a body after I shoot hasn't gotten old yet to me. I'm just waiting to max everything out so I can be a killing machine. :p

If I could skip the slow-mo sequences, it might be better, but those are like the final nail in the coffin -- I got sick of watching everyone's head asplode in slow-mo and was like "COME ON, I WANT TO KEEP MOVING". They need a patch to make that animation skip-able. :\

BM perk is useless unless you're a gore-aholic or something.

VATS makes the combat -- if I wanted a FPS, I'd go play CoD4.
The waiting for the slow-mo death is just brutal though -- I'm surprised more people don't complain about it a la the Too Human death sequence.

Yeah, when you're dealing with 40 mutants, waiting for vats to end it's motion so you can start dodging while you're AP refills is a bit frustrating.

I wonder how long the game would've taken me if I was able to start skipping the slo-mo VATS animation for deaths after I grew bored of them.

Probably not much time, I'd guess, but it does get crazy when 10 dudes are gunning for you. A skip button would be pretty handy at times. I'm usually point blank combat shotgun or medium range Lincoln's repeater.

I got the good achievements no problem, as I didn't blow up megaton... making a mistake when I hit 14, I managed to get both good and neutral, but didn't think to stop, fuck up my karma, and get it again for evil -- though when I was about to hit 20, I planned that shit carefully.

Holy shit, that's awesome.
I couldn't stand Moira's voice... she wasn't bad lookin for livin in Megaton though.
When I went for evil/neutral cheese quickly after my first playthrough, I blew up Megaton only after I got the neutral 8 cheese... I then hiked my ass from Big Town to Tenpenny Tower and did the deed. When you think of all the lives you took... yeah, your karma is going in the shitter for awhile. At least until you find someone to bribe or something to get it back. It's just a shame that I don't think you get the creepy pedophile robotic rapist butler in your Tenpenny Tower home. I LOVE Queen and Country. I like spy/espionage stuff a lot. I also like how each chapter is drawn by a new person. The first book only had one memorable artist towards the end, while most of the beginning was a bit "cartoony" for my tastes. But vol.2 reverses that, with only one "cartoony" style chapter.

also, if anyone wants an XBL 12+1 card for $35, pm me.

Hey guys. I moved back in to my dorm room today, so I'm hoping I can put more time in to the thread again.

I'm still chipping away at Dragon Quest IV. I'm thinking its a 20 hour or so game, and I'm at like 12 or 13 hours in and I started the final chapter last night.

Fallout 3 is on my back burner at the moment. Hopefully I can put more time in to now that I've got a ton of free time.

And get this! I was in Radio Shack today picking up a wireless router for my room, when I decided to check out their video games. They had SIX-AXIS controllers, all of them that they had out, so like 5 or so, marked at $9.99. I had the clerk ring one up for me to see if it would really be $9.99(I can dream ). They were marked wrong of course... the clerk said he would push the sale through for me, but kept mentioning how someone was going to get in trouble for that. So I declined on him pushing the sale through. It could have been awesome stocking up on them bad boys 8-)

Funny story about that game. I was playing the story mode, and at one point you switch from playing as one of the good guys to a bad guy. I didn't know the switch happened, so the whole fight I thought I was playing as the AI character and I still won the match. Such a terrible game.

Funny story about that game. I was playing the story mode, and at one point you switch from playing as one of the good guys to a bad guy. I didn't know the switch happened, so the whole fight I thought I was playing as the AI character and I still won the match. Such a terrible game.
I don't know how people can think that Burst Limit is even remotely better than the Tenkaichi series. Burst Limit doesn't even go past the Cell Saga, which there is no excuse for after 6 PS2 DBZ games, 5 of which (I think it's 5, I forgot if Budokai 1 did) go to the end of the series.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I feel like DBZ went to shit after the Cell Saga. And I'm die hard for DBZ.

I enjoyed the Burst Limit demo. Definitely something I'll pick up down the road once it's super cheap.

And for fuck's sake, the "main" hero in DQIV sucks so much. I cannot even begin to count the number of times I've died trying to reach level 7. Goddamnit.

Yeah, after you understand the controls for Tenkaichi, it was actually pretty good for a DBZ game.

It wasn't that I liked or disliked the Buu Saga, it's just that there's no excuse for not putting the characters from that whole saga in the game.

I'll probably trade it in to help towards VC, but if for some reason I don't see any used copies of it in the next few days, perhaps I'll trade it to you, Ahadi.

Who from the Buu saga do you feel like you're missing out on? I mean, the Buu transformations weren't that fun to use. I suppose the fusion characters are a big miss, but that's one of the things that sort of ruined the show. In their defense though, and in Budokai 2's defense, the fusion "rock, paper scissor" game was definitely a neat way to work in the fusion aspect.

I never tried Super DBZ, nor did I spend as much time with Budokai 3 that I'd have liked to. But Tenkaichi 2 on Wii definitely consumed my life for some time.

Quoting for emphasis.

And double posting(maybe).

Frieza was a good saga, just too long. But Android/Cell was great because it was a "fairly" level playing field in terms of everyone's power level being some what equal and every character being able to be fairly useful in a fight.

And DQIV's art is done by Toriyama(right?), so it ties in to a previous post, so this isn't 100% off topic. Sort of.

I'll agree with the Saiyaman, simply because he's a damn good novelty character, in the show and in the game. Kid Buu however, eh... it's probably just my bias towards that saga that's keeping me from really liking him.

The only DBZ games I've ever played were a couple Super Famicom imports, and the two PSX games (Ultimate Battle 22 and Final Bout GT) which I both imported back in those days.

The Burst Limit graphics make me want to get the game when its super cheap. The new DS one looks neat too. I like the original DB saga.

Ultimate Battle 22 was soooooo cool. Nice 2D sprites spinning around. Good sense of speed. Felt most like the show.
Wish I could have understood it.

I thought DBZ:BT2 on Wii was pretty good. It was definitely better than 3, even though it had online (which was broken as hell) it added timing puzzles to the special moves which sucked. I also enjoyed Final Bout on Playstation, but I didn't pick up the re-release when it came out :(

I totally forgot about the Super Famicom games! Oh man... I was like, fucking 13 years old when I first played those. I loved the Super Butoden games so much on the emulator that I imported all three of them then "modified" my SNES to play them. I felt like such a cool nerd having a "modded" SNES and legit Japanese games. I paid out the ass for those three games... Though I could never find Hyper Dimension for a decent price.

@Animal Crossing discussion:
The redundancy of the game is what makes it so good. I know I've completely paid off my house on the Gamecube. I know that I've been slowly paying off my house on the DS. And I know for a fact that I'll be paying off my house on the Wii. Fact is, I don't mind it. There's definitely enough of a difference between AC and AC:WW to keep me entertained.

And I was definitely wrong about my 20 hour DQIV completion time. I'm at like 17 hours or maybe a little less and I am not even close to the ending. Bah! Still a fun game though.

I did start to like the combat more, it's just convulted having 2 screens and I generally hate touch screen controls, but it is fun as you start to get the hang of it. And anything is better than the turn based combat that's in most JRPGs so I can't complain to much.

I'd be a lost cause with a game rental service as I just don't have enough time to justify it, so I just went with using Goozex for most of my games as it's cheap and I don't mind the slow pace of getting new games since I'm always behind anyway.

yeah the puzzles werent that hard i figured most of them out fairly quickly
the only one i had to look up was the one in world 2 above the door

Maybe the puzzles just took a type of thinking that I'm not used to (perhaps I'm too logical). Braid was the fist game in a long time to have me literally stumped. Usually, even if I'm not *able* to do something, I at least know *what* to do. Some of the Braid puzzles, however, even after viewing the vids I couldnt see how one could have stumbled on that solution.

Zak and Wiki, Prof. Layton were cake. Braid though, had me twisted (see what I did there....)

really? they're more straightforward than most puzzles I find in games. The game is more enjoyable without cheating.

As the other guy said, maybe I just don't think that way and thing to straightforward and logical.

Many of the puzzles with rewinding fast forwarding to set stuff up to jump off multiple enemies etc. were often things I tried for a long time and don't think I'd ever have figured out on my own.

And part of it is that I just don't enjoy racking my brain with games after long days of research and teaching etc. :D I'd generally rather just fire up an FPS and shoot some shit or a WRPG for some mindless question and exploring.

You'll be able to get Underworld for under $30 in fewer than 4 weeks, I'd guess. Your call. I liked the demo of Tomb Raider: Whatever (the first one on 360), as it had a more action-y "let's rip off Prince of Persia" feel to it that really added some needed changes to the gameplay. If the last 2 are similar, it should be enjoyable.

But yeah, $30 if you're patient.

Whether you like these games or not hinges on whether or not you like cute anime girls. If you do, then you'll love it.

The whole game revolves around moe. Even the battle system. You have to protect these cute girls while they cast spells, and to get better spells you need to get closer to them personally. The story isn't anything special because it's not the important factor. Hence why I say the game is aimed directly at guys who like cute, anime girls.

But I agree with him... I said as much. The only reason you should buy this game is if you want to learn more about cute girls. For no other reason should this game be purchased. I said it multiple times.

I'm aware of the main selling point of this series. I still enjoy the games very much. The battle system is a lot of fun, but even that really hinges on you caring about the reyvateils.

i forget who said it at capcom, but they nailed it perfectly. You don't get that sense of wow factor until you put time into it. The wow factor comes from the sense of accomplishment. I can definitly say this s true. You won't give a shit for the first 5 or 6 hours into it, but after that you are go.

I can def say that it's one of the few games that take both skill and patience, something I wish more games had.

then again, most people nowadays aren't patient so it makes sense people don't stick around through it.

I'm still playing my copy of Freedom II. over 189 hours put in.

My love of the game came from the teamwork you needed to take down the big pray. Yeah, it's cool to kill the big stuff by yourself but that's nothing compared to the feeling of taking something down with 3 other people who know exactly what to do. I think I cried when they shut the servers down. Wyverns cowered in fear when my character arrived on the scene, hammer in her hand.

The game has a steep learning curve, and it takes awhile to get to the epic stuff. That was really the main problem with it.

Ahadi

Your vague answers are making me want to give it another shot. Sadly, I don't have my PSP any more. Maybe it'll be easier to track down a PS2 copy. Maybe. Or maybe I'll find a way to justify a Darth Vader PSP. Probably not... But maybe ;)

It depends on the game and the number of preorders. I think we got 4 copies of Ar Tonelico 2, and had 2 preorders. For Persona 4 we had like 3 preorders, and about 7 copies. In fact, just got 3 more copies in today of Persona 4 after being sold out since the release week.

Yep. It's pretty nice having some change in my pocket. I wish it were more... but I mean, the emphasis of the payment really falls in to the fact that I'm living in the "best" dorm on campus for free. But a fat man who games and plays Warhammer 40k and has an expensive girlfriend cannot live off of $132.48 every two weeks. Of course I could just downgrade my lifestyle

My friend and I were obsessed with it when it came out in early 2002. We rented it, and played it for 3 days straight. We got all the endings and all of the weapons. You can run through it in like an hour or so, so we just took turns trying to figure out each path you could take through the game. It was a blast. We bought copies when it was dirt cheap like 6 months later.

Metal Arms was alright, and I've never played I-Ninja, outside of the demo. The demo didn't really grab me though.

And I'll recommend some for good measure, besides Way of the Samurai. The sequel was supposedly trash, but I haven't played it for more than a minute or two.

Robotic Alchemic Drive. Hell yes. I love this game. Big robots smashing into each other and wrecking a city you are supposed to be protecting is too much fun, and it's so unique in its control. And the story is just pure lulz, thanks to some pretty bad voice acting.

Magic Pengel. It's a pretty offbeat Monster Rancher/RPG style game in which you draw your monsters and use them to fight other monsters and progress the story. I've never finished it, but drawing penis monsters is pretty amusing. :)

I liked Contra Shattered Soldier. It beat my ass, but it's actually really good IMO.

Neo Contra, on the other hand, isn't very good. It tried some different things, but it just wasn't very good.

Gradius V is so good though. I think I'll play that later.

Way of the Samurai really was an excellent game... I'm picking up another copy since yeah, it's pretty clear that selling it was a bad move. Basically Bushido Blade: The Adventure Game.

There's not a whole lot of other hidden gems on the system though... Contra: SS and Gitaroo Man are a couple of examples, and if import shooters like the Cave games and Psyvariar 2 count, then those as well... but stuff like Psi-Ops, I-Ninja, Red Star, Metal Arms - those were just mediocre as hell. I'd rather play any Cabela's game than half of those.

Cave shooters are so fucking good. Psyvariar 2 also.

Yeah, some "hidden gems" turn out to be mediocre, but it's the hunt for those real hidden gems that I like.

Well, if you're willing to import, then the "gem box" just opened up big time.

But now that y'all mention it, I need to pick up Red Star, Way of the Samurai, and Ico one of these days...

Tell me of these import gems. I already have some, but I'm always looking for more. :)

If it's a Cave shmup, I already gots it.
