Oh, XIII. I love that shit. Not because it's a good game, but just because there's a lot of people who insist that it's fucking great, and it's not.


I had this game reserved and played the demo and stuff. I thought it was going to kick ass. Then I changed my mind at the last second and bought Max Payne 2 (PS2) instead.

The point of this story is that both games were $5 about a week after launch and I didn't know shit until I joined CAG.

Well, the game's out on the 16th, so I can't give you a proper explanation 'til then, but...

Aesthetically, I still prefer the GBA games over the Wii and DS. You can decide for yourself...

... but it just looks too... clean for my tastes.

One of the big New Things in the game is that you can change unit classes. The amount of each class that you can have is limited, though, so you can't field an entire army of Armour Knights no matter how much you (that is, I) want to. I'm kinda mixed on this, but ultimately optimistic. On the one side, customization is often the enemy of character, and can place limitations on the story. On the other hand, customization is generally good for gameplay. Especially when it comes to the multiplayer.

It is unfortunate that they limit us to teams of five, but hey, there's voice chat, so that's cool. I assume that they want the teams to be small so that games don't drag on forever, though I'd appreciate larger teams in a "chess by mail" type of system. Ah, whatever. You can either play standard kill-em-all fights using your characters from the campaign or capture-the-green-square type fights. Also, there's voice chat, which is kinda neat, though not critical in a turn-based, non-team-based game at all...

What else? Oh, the save system. Strikes a happy medium between Fire Emblem 10's "save anywhere" Battle Saves and the traditional "Majora's Mask Owl" Suspend Saves (which I am assuming are still in). Maps will have single-use-only, non-Owl-type save points on them. Keeps you from having to restart if someone gets dropped by a bullshit critical strike, but it doesn't protect you from your own stupidity in the way that the Battle Saves so often did.

And... I think that's about it. I'm assuming that they've buffed Marth up considerably, 'cause he's supposed to have been a pretty big pussy back in the day.

Anything else? I realize that you asked for a consensus on it, but those are for pussies.

Anywayzorz, SFA3 PSP is a really good port actually with fun stuff to do even for one player.
Maybe even better than the PSX version but not quite since it's on PSP.

F-Zero GX is so good. I've been playing it again while listening to podcasts. Beautiful game, great controls.

Sony First Party has no soul. Their games just feel cheap. Killzone 2 is going to fail.

Nothing in the demo made me want to buy it; there was nothing that made me wonder "oh, what else will happen, or what puzzles await?" I couldn't stand the graphics, the puzzles were, in the very least, mostly obvious to me, though sometimes the control mechanics made them frustrating/annoying, the story did nothing for me... Why would I drop $15 bucks on it again? :-s

The puzzles in the demo are nothing compared to the puzzles later on in the game. At least you gave it a try though.

I can see how the graphics would be bad based on taste, but what was done in braid was some very hard coding and artwork. superbly impressive with only 2 guys working on it.

Depends on what you're into. Saturn's got more 2D, simple shit, and the Dreamcast has more 3D stuff. There seems to be a few more good lengthy games on the Dreamcast, too. If I had to pick one... damn, that's tough... uhm, probably the Dreamcast though because it's got some of the most unique games out there.

But man, you gotta have both.

I fully understand your backing it, that's cool. I don't think it's for everyone. And I understand the demo thing -- Uncharted's demo was horrible too me, but when I could get the game for less than $10, I gave it a shot and it turned out the demo was the worst part. I mean, Dead Space has a horrible demo too. The game is so much better than the demo lets on... But to pay $15 for the full game of a demo you loathed? I mean, Rei had it right -- you can't sell it, you can't trade it... there's no way to gamefly it or anything of the sort. I had a hard time paying for SSFIITHDR and I'm a huge SFII guy... But if the game did it for you? I can live with that -- not trying to change your opinion -- was just offering the "counter" arguments, as it were to balance the cosmic scales. ;)

A lot of people said that about Alma in NG ... it was all bullshit imo. Granted I haven't gotten to the last boss in Gun but don't let all the complaining deter you.

I think everyone is mistaking BS for difficulty. The last boss of Gun is full of BS, there's a distinct difference.

Honestly, what did Gun do well?
Story, characters, voice work, gameplay, fun, setting. It did everything well except length and final boss.

It's pretty short. Especially if you don't bother with all the side missions. You could easily blow through it in a couple sittings.

If you want a game with BS difficulty, play Castlevania: Order of Eclessia. There's a boss about 65% through the game that can kill you in 4 hits, even at level 40. Oh, and you can't move around this boss, either. He basically pins you in a corner.

Started going through my backlog, and playing Assassin's Creed now. Kinda torn on it thus far, really like how the climbing works, but not a fan of how the stealth works (the blend button and killing to get rid of the alarmed state). It's very clear that the mission structure isn't going to change since i'm up to the 4th mission and i've seen every kind of investigation at least twice already. Combat is decent, you get a lot out of the swordplay for having to do very little. I find myself wishing there were stealth kill animations for the other weapons rather than just the hidden blade, especially given how well done the counterattack animations are. The traveling between cities feels thrown in just to add an extra half hour of playing time (thankfully it gives you the option to teleport there once you visit all 3)

To me it feels like a combo of Tenchu and Hitman, but nowhere near as good as either one.

Also, did anyone else get horrendous slowdown during the city alarm in Acre? The game was moving at about 1/3 speed until i was completely out of the level (even the guild talking scene was animating in slow motion).

He started Final Fantasy, all the shit that was actually under his control, the only one I truly cared for was Lost Odyssey, FFIV I've heard good things about. Everything else I could care less since he wasn't actually in charge. He's not on Ueda's level.

Gun is pretty good, and I don't think the last boss is that hard at all.

I remember someone telling me that he was impossible and he bet me 20 bucks that I couldn't beat him in 30 minutes. I died once and then beat him on my next try :).
