And Gun isn't THAT bad. I can think of a lot worse to be playing from the 360 launch. Especially if you get it for $10 or so.

It also helps that there isnt' really much better choice (or choice at all) in the western gaming genre. If there was some knockout Western game that was the best, i could see hating Gun, but beggars can't be choosers. I'd like to see a better Western style game, but it just hasn't been done. (I didn't care for Red Dead Revolver either)

I had an A- average in high school. I'd slack a bit, get some B's, then bring them back up. The best thing was that I took 2 years of typing, and I'd get done quickly and do my other homework and surf the internet.

On that note, the internet was vastly different back in 1995. It's crazy how much it's evolved since then. Surfing on the school's 486s with 256 color displays on Win 3.1 sucked ass.

In my sophmore year my school got rid of all of the regular desktop Dells in favor of these shitty computers where the towers are like...tiny little external-hard-drive looking things. I don't know anything about computers, but these things are superfuckslow and terrible. We also have terrible server shit run by an incompetent old man who sits in his office and views what we're browsing, looking for sites to block. We had Google Images blocked for three years because kids would look up naked ladies. There was a great patch of time where half of any computer assignments were rendered null and void because the educational websites used for them had been blocked without the teacher knowing.

This year (senior year) we finally got some desktops again.

Five of them.

We have three computer labs.

My high school and former middle school are in the same building: the downstairs floor is the middle school/nurse's office/guidance office, and the upstairs is the high school, so all of us kids in middle school knew what to look forward to when we got up there.

When I was in eighth grade, the high school had soda machines, a salad bar in the cafeteria, students could leave their study halls whenever to go wherever, you could bring drinks and food to class, have mp3 players and cell phones (in study halls), have lunch outside, and various other exciting luxuries unavailable to middle schoolers.

Four years later we have none of those things, for these respective reasons: too unhealthy, kids were spitting in it, death/bomb threat induced lockdowns increasing security, students bringing alcohol in non-alcoholic bottles, learning distractions and students sending naked pictures around, and students leaving the premises/smoking.

Basically, every cool thing has been systematically removed each year. A couple years ago we opened a "school store", which sold stuff like chips and candy bars, to raise money for the yearbook. We have to shut it down next week because everything we sell has too much sugar/too many calories, including the likes of NutriGrain Bars. We (yearbook staff) were told we had to close it down with a week's notice. The teacher who runs the yearbook staff buys the food from Sam's Club, i.e. in bulk. So now we have A) our second-biggest source of Yearbook revenue gone, B) tons of unsold food we won't be able to make a profit or even break even on, and C) the yearbook, already in superduper debt, even more so.

Our Principles of Democracy/Government text books are quite out of date, to the point that the teacher has to supply us with answers to at least a couple questions per chapter because the answers in the textbook have been rendered incorrect. Also, tons of classes don't have enough text books/novels (in english class) for all of the students).

Pretty much everything academic revolves around 1) State Standardized tests (the Pennsylvania State Assessment Tests, in which our scores have declined every year despite increased focus on it) and 2) an incredibly inane system of "Goals and Portfolios". The explanation for the latter: years ago, the superintendent latched on to this system, where every class has certain "goals" that need to be completed for a student to pass. For example, a goal for an English class might be "Student must present an oral presentation on a classic novel." These "goals" are then put into portfolios which follow you throughout your entire school career, the idea being that colleges would look at these portfolios and use them to help determine acceptance. He was convinced it would catch on with most schools in the country and wanted to get our school in the door early. The problems with this system being: A) It never caught on. Ever. and B) The individual "goals" have not changed in decades, despite teacher and curriculum changes, meaning that most of them have no place in the lesson plan and teachers just hand them out and give the students the answers so they everyone gets them completed and they're out of the way.

Also, the faculty is made up of 1) Young teachers who openly despise the administration and the sorry state of the school and B) teachers on the verge of retiring who have stopped giving a fuck.

Also, roughly a quarter of my senior class had dropped out over the last two years. We don't even fill one bleacher in the gym for pep assemblies/the like.

I really dislike my high school.

Last day of school, she calls me into the office, and tells me that I was on academic probation, and wasn't allowed to go on the trip, and she suspends me on the spot. I blow up and start cussing at her and yelling at her, but she wouldn't have it, and I get sent home. I still graduated, but I wasn't allowed into the school.

My mom was even more furious than I was, but I explained everything to her, and she somehow became even angrier, and threatened the principal over the phone, but she never got an answer. :lol:

So, my wife wanted to get grocieries today... I told her to go once the game started because then no one would be out. Boy was I was wrong - she said it was the most packed she'd ever seen it. This was at around 4-5 pm (I'm Pacific so the game was well underway then). WTF? Oh well, at least it wasn't me.

I was just laughing at all the high-school bashing posts a few pages back. It is especially funny to me to see the complaints about computer equipment. I think my HS had one computer with one of those green CRT screens and an 8" floppy drive. Yeah... I was also one of the first kids to turn in papers that were written on a computer. The teachers were highly suspicious of that back then and everyone thought it was cheating, somehow, not to write your essays by hand. Note that I printed these off the original model Mac on a dot-matrix printer - so yeah, I'm old ;).

I have to say, though, I can't imagine what school must be like nowadays with the cell phones and texting and iPods and such. Kids were unruly enough when I went to HS (at a small private high school no less) that it must be a nightmare in big public schools. Well, my daughter is only 3 years away from that so I guess I'll find out.

In gaming news, I finally knocked out those two really hard PoP trophies the other day (the two I consider the hardest are stupid bronzes - the 14-hit combo one and the combo master one). Now I'm just cruising through a second play to get the speed and < 100 deaths trophies, then I'll have my platinum. I just wanted to see if it was possible for me to get one of those - it is such a pain on most games, though (and as a result takes away from the pure enjoyment of the game), that I probably won't go for too many more.

Been playing The Maw on the side as an easy-paced, light-hearted distraction (plus my son, who played it all the way through wanted to tell me how to do each level).

I'm considering what to start next. I might go with Fable II, but I've seen some serious bashing of that game by various CAGs (one just a few pages back in this thread in fact). But the reviews are stellar of course. So, for those of you who have problems with it, what are they (without spoilers of course)? Keep in mind I never played the original, so I have absolutely no expectations going into it.

I thought Fable II was very entertaining. The game did have some technical problems when it first came out. In addition, some people don't like the ability to spam magic, but you don't have to play the game that way. The main story/quest is kind of short for an RPG. Also, the two player co-op is lame. That's about all I got, but again, I liked the game overall.

I am done with Fable 2, and I must say its one of the worst WRPGS I have ever played, if not THE worst.
The story to the awful graphics, to the loading, to the button mashing mindless combat, to the easy to break economy, to the world that you never give a shit about, to the awful dialog.
The entire game is so contrived, and you never feel like your choices mean anything.

I think there's some "online" mode where if you die, you remain dead unless a living player can find a way to revive you.

While you're dead you can help "living" players with their quest. They can't see you but things you do affect their gameworld. Like opening certain doors, or leaving notes burned into the wall for them to read.
They can find trails of blood that lead to where players have died in their own games, and can revive these "strangers".

It's all very odd, but intriguing.

I like Triggerheart Excelica's later levels. Some great bullet hell gameplay in those. It's probably good on harder difficulties throughout the game.

It's a fine shmup and worth the price, but its not as good as Ikargua, Dodonpachi, Mushihime, etc.

So I stopped by this little hole-in-the-wall game store to pick up Chrono Trigger, when I saw some PS1 games sitting on the shelf, like new! Dino Crisis, Tomba 2, Brave Fencer Musashi, even a non-GH Final Fantasy VIII! I think the most expensive game there was FF8, and even then, it was only about twenty bucks! I almost leaped on Musashi, but I wasn't sure how good it would hold up, even though I had a blast playing the demo like, a decade ago. Shit, I might go back later this week for it.

Yes, you can, but unless you use the DRM tool and redownload them anyway, you can't play them unless you're signed in to Live.

I've been playing a little bit of Burnout Paradise today, particularly the Stunt Runs. Yeah...I hate that Restart isn't in the game right now. Until I was trying to go for EVERYTHING, it wasn't that big of a deal.

Got the 2nd ending in GTAIV The one where Kate dies. I liked it a lot more than the other one, but both final battles were really easy, aside from where you have to get onto the helicopter. Getting on the chopper from the boat was a pain, since you have to manually jump, and the game doesn't mention that fact.

I'm not sure what the difference between Colonies and the regular edition is -- I just have the plain old 360 version...

It's weird. It's not difficult... it has some interesting mechanics -- it's not what I expected. Some of the boss battles are neat. I've got it in the *average* pile now... I'll probably sell it when I finish.

The story definitely doesn't do it for me. And the "acting" is on some original RE type shit. :-?

The main difference in Colonies is the multiplayer. There's a lot more modes, and they're a lot of fun.
