Seriously... but man, I wish Sega wasn't so goddamned retarded and actually marketed their good games so that maybe they'd sell over here. Yakuza 3 easily looks better than anything else Sega's got, and it looks like it'll be the best PS3 game this year by far.

I bought Yakuza 2 near release but it's still sealed since I never played the first one (had never even heard of it :( ).
I bought the first one a couple weeks ago, so I plan on getting to that pretty soon.
Rei, it's the usual "no plans" but really doubtful. There'll be an Asian version but that one seems to be Japanese only as well.

The demo -- an actual demo, rather than just a retail version of the game booting up from a save point -- starts off with series' hero Kazuma Kiryu arriving in Kamiyacho and remarking how little things have changed since his last visit. In the distance, he spots his old Stardust host club just as a drunk yakuza gets rough with a couple of girls and tosses them out of the place.

That's when you're given control. We immediately tried to explore the area, but Kiryu kept on suggesting that we go see what the fuss was all about at Stardust. Following his wishes, we entered Stardust and were treated with a cinema scene in which Kiryu finds himself and two friends being confronted by about a dozen-or-so yakuza. Cinema scenes have always been Yakuza's strong point, but thanks in part to the added detail for part 3, they're now even more involving!

Following the cinema scene, the game switches into battle mode. Your task is to work with your two buddies to defeat the entire lot of yakuza scum. This is not an easy task, because one of the guys midway through the fight gets enraged at the fact that he's losing and pulls out a sword. Thankfully, you've got the entire Stardust, both lower and upper lounge areas, to use as your battle ground, and can also pick up all varieties of furniture from the ground to use as weapons.

As with Kenzan, Yakuza 3 offers a far more immersive experience compared to the two PS2 titles. The camera is now zoomed in on Kiryu's back as opposed to the three-quarter overhead views of the PS2 games. There are no transitions between sections of the map now. Yakuza 3 feels like a modern behind-the-back adventure game.

One of the biggest improvement to the series with Yakuza 3 is in load times. A major complaint for the PS2 titles was the lengthy loading that preceded those random battle encounters on the street. The encounters are in Yakuza 3 as well, but there's absolutely no loading. You'll be talking to some thug, he'll threaten you, the camera will pan back a bit, and all of a sudden, you're fighting. After the fight, the camera will zoom back in a bit, and you'll be instantly roaming the streets once again as Kiryu. If the experience throughout Yakuza 3 is as smooth as the demo version suggested, we're in for a treat!

There's plenty to the yakuza experience that, while not getting to try out for ourselves, we saw other players sample. In typical Yakuza style, the game has a number of mini-games, including golf, arcade games, and a rhythm-based karaoke game complete with actual voiced songs. We saw one player sampling an arcade game that looked like a 2.5D shooter.


All this represents what we saw in just 15-or-so minutes playing and watching the game while waiting for the line to clear up so that we could get Nagoshi's signature. If that fifteen minutes is an indication, Yakuza 3's Japanese release on the 26th is going to be one of the PS3's finest moments yet. We'll be sure and let you know all about it.

From what I read, LP:EC can only play with LP:EC and LP:C can only play with LP:C, so I doubt I'd even be able to find a match online at this point -- I'll finish my last two single player missions on normal and be done with it...

I don't agree about the guns being the same. There are some I avoid because I don't find them too useful (energy gun/shotgun), but the plasma gun is a beast if you have the T-eng to use it. <3 that shit. Makes fighting mechs manageable on foot... well, that and the rocket launcher.

The bosses of the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 6th missions I could see being called cheap. Especially the 5th. That guy was a cock.

Well Grant is okay for being able to skip portions of a level. Plus he can reach hard-to-get items. Sypha has been utterly worthless for me. I never can keep her fireball spell, and never even found the ice one.

I just remember a snowy map (duh) and getting destroyed by Japanese guys.

I liked it though, deathmatch had a slower but steady pace to it.

I picked up Chrono Trigger again, and I've been making SLOW progress. I really think I'm desperately underpowered right now, around levels 32-30 for all my characters. The last 2 bosses have really punished me, too. They dealt about 130-200 damage to each of my guys an attack. Barely made it out alive. I might have to level grind a little bit before moving on, though. The first time I've had to grind in this game.

Still enjoying it though, and it's definitely not one of those 'overhyped classics', either. It's the real deal.

I picked up Valkyrie Profile from Wal-Mart Years ago for $20. Never ended up playing it , but sold it last year for about $80 along with SotN non-GH for about $40 and FFT non-GH for about $30.

Only reason I sold Valkyrie Profile was because I has picked up the PSP version. Same with the other two.

FFXIII is divisive; if you like it, you'll love it. If you don't, well, you'll find out soon enough and not waste much time. Lost Odyssey is quite satisfying, but pretty unremarkable on the whole.

Finished Assassin's Creed, now I just wish they had actually finished the game with a real ending. I really enjoyed the Yusef (sp?) level near the end, since it's really the only time they force you to rely on the decent combat system, wish they had thrown some more of that in the middle rather than the 9 near-identical assassinations

How far in to DQIV are you? The damn game's length is sorta killing me. Though maybe I'm spending too much time grinding... I don't know.

My PS3 is gathering dust right now though. I beat LBP with the lady a few weekends ago, and now we're trying to 100% everything. Tedious... very tedious.

Finish Saints Row 2 first. It's still one of the best games I've played this year.

And from my personal standpoint, I wouldn't juggle DQIV with another story driven portable. I say that because I feel like it's story could get convoluted or mixed up with another RPG's story. Though I could be wrong... I just didn't want to juggle DQIV and Chrono Trigger.

Didn't try the multi-- I had the original, not colonies and it didn't seem like a game I wanted to try deathmatch in...

The overall game was interesting and a reasonable 3rd person shooter for the <$10 I paid. I don't understand what the fuck is up with Capcom and changing the nature of the game for the final boss fight in some of these games... the final boss in this one made me remember the final boss in DMC. Yeah, it takes a few hours, but it's pretty worth it. If you skip the movies pack, that'll cut down your time. The movies will look awful either way. Let me know which ones you're getting.

Uh, no. They will both be near identical. Outside of Sonic team, Sega has done an excellent job overall keeping PS3/360 versions very similar.

ugh, that thread is a mess...i'm embarrassed. :lol: Grab the official patch first. I don't know if its a requirement, but that's what i did and my shit's working.

also, one of those patches (I think the hi-res villagers) gives ashley a blue shirt instead of an orange one.

The laser sight is in game. It's bright as fuck. Thankfully, there's a mod to turn it down on that same board with all the RE4 mods.

Target keeps taunting me with a stack of $5 copies of that game, not sure why it's the only thing to sit on the clearance shelf for a year. Played it through and enjoyed it, just wasn't as blown away by it as others seemed to be.
